Chapter 10
The Power of Love

The Jacks' Residence -- 7:00am

The sound of the pouring rain pounded against the windows and balcony doors to the master bedroom. Jillian was in the bassinet and seemed to have finally settled down after a restless night. She had fallen asleep after Brenda had nursed her. Brenda had quietly climbed back into bed so as not to wake Jax. As Brenda snuggled against his chest, Jax awoke.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you. You were awake half the night."

Jax ran his fingers through Brenda's hair. "So were you. How is she?"

"She was more interested in eating than she has been over the past two days and she seems less congested this morning."

Jax massaged Brenda's back. "Good. Hopefully she is feeling better."

Brenda was tracing circles with her finger on Jax's bare chest. "You were great with her last night."

"I love the two of you so much."

Brenda lifted her head and smiled at Jax. "You show us that every day. We love you."

Brenda tenderly kissed Jax's lips. It was meant to be a quick kiss but it quickly intensified. As the kiss lingered, the passions inside both of them ignited. Brenda moaned as Jax brushed her lips with his tongue. His tongue then fully explored her mouth as Brenda ran her fingers through his hair. When their lips parted, Brenda saw the fire that blazed in his eyes and she knew that her eyes reflected the same inferno. Brenda snuggled into his neck and left a trail of kisses along his jawline. She lowered her head to his chest and Jax gasped as she lightly bit his nipples. Jax lifted her head and cupped one side of her face with his hand. She surrendered her lips to his as Jax took her in his arms and rolled on top of her.

Brenda tightened her arms around Jax's neck as his mouth and tongue made a path across her neck and shoulders. As Brenda whispered Jax's name, a huge clap of thunder echoed through the air. The intensity of the boom shook the windows and immediately awakened Jillian who began screaming. Brenda jumped out of bed to comfort Jillian as Jax fell back against the pillows. So close yet so far. Brenda stood over the bassinet as she tried to extinguish the passion which still engulfed her. This was getting more frustrating every day.

Brenda picked Jillian up from the bassinet. "It's okay, precious. Mommy and Daddy are here."

Brenda climbed into bed with Jillian on her shoulder. The baby was still crying as Jax massaged her back. "Princess, you're safe. Look at those tears. Daddy hates to see you unhappy."

After a few minutes, Jillian began to settle down as Brenda hugged her tightly and Jax continued to whisper to her. Once the baby was finally content, Jax laid her on his chest and Brenda snuggled against his shoulder.

"Jax, I'm sorry."

Jax kissed Brenda on the forehead. "I promise after the first stage of this deal closes on Tuesday, we will find a way to spend some time together. Until then I guess we will both have to learn to be patient."

"Patience. I hate that word."

Jax smiled. "I am going to have to get out of here soon and head to the office. We only have four days to pull everything together. I hate leaving you without any help, especially with Jillian still sick. I know Emily has offered to babysit. It's a weekend so why don't I call her later on this morning and ask if she is available to come over. She could watch the baby and you can get some rest."

Brenda lifted up her head from Jax's shoulder. "I am going to make a deal with you. For the next four days, I want you to concentrate on Canadian Timber and nothing else. I don't want you to worry about Jillian or me. I will handle Jillian and everything else. If I need Emily, I will call her. Now, I want to make it clear that this is only a four day reprieve. After Canadian Timber closes, this deal expires. You then will need to start concentrating on Jillian and me again."

Jax laughed as he tightly wrapped his arms around Brenda. "Only a four day reprieve? You drive a hard bargain but you have a deal."

J & J Jacks -- 3:00pm

Jax, Jerry, and Julia were in the conference room plowing through drafts of the contracts for the transaction closing. Scott and his secretary were in his office working on the employment agreements while Addie was printing out the latest financial projections.

Julia was shaking her head. "This clause about the transfer of the collateral for the financing will not get by the Board of Directors."

"Trudeau is going to have to get it by the Board. The collateral has to be transferred for J & J Jacks to maintain its favorable loan terms. It is a deal breaker."

"Jerry, I am not stupid. I understand that the collateral issue is imperative to financing. We are going to have to come up with a way to facilitate the transfer without creating tax ramifications for Canadian Timber. Otherwise it will never fly."

Jerry folded his arms and stared at Julia. "Well Ms. Consultant, what is the solution?"

Julia glared at Jerry and then looked at Jax. "What if we try to get a waiver from the banks so that we can substitute collateral?"

Jerry rolled his eyes at her. "Not a chance. First of all, there is no time. This delay is costing us tens of thousands of dollars a day and we are up against the clock here. You are going to have to come up with something better than that, Ms. Consultant. I mean that is what we are paying you for, isn't it?"

Jax took a deep breath. "Jerry, that attitude is not going to get us anywhere. We have to figure out how to get around this issue."

The intercom buzzed. "Yes, Addie."

"Mr. Jacks, your father is on the line. He has some questions about the projections that were just faxed to him."

"Please tell him that I will be right with him. I'll take it in my office." Jax stood up and looked at Jerry. "I think if you two put your heads together, you can figure out this collateral issue before I get back."

Jax left the conference room and closed the door behind him. Jerry began tapping his finger nails on the conference table. "Well, what is the answer?"

"If you would shut up for a second, maybe I could think?"

"Highly doubtful."

Julia shot up out of her chair. "Listen here you, jackass, this issue should have been addressed months ago. Your ass is on the line not mine. I am not going to stand here and listen to your criticism and complaints when you are doing nothing to try to solve your own problem." Julia then began walking toward the door.

Jerry got out of his chair and blocked Julia's path to the door. "Where do you think you are going?"

"Get out of my way."

"Just wait a minute." Jerry then began walking forward causing Julia to back up until her further movement was stopped as she reached the bookcases lining the walls of the conference room.

Julia swallowed hard to try to get the lump out of her throat. "What are you doing?"

Jerry put his arms against the bookcase as he stood just inches from Julia. He was having a hard time concentrating, he never realized how beautiful her skin was. It was like porcelain. "I just want to talk to you."

Julia was having a hard time controlling her breathing. She was afraid she was going to start hyperventilating. She had never noticed his eyes before. They were so blue and they seemed to have a glint of silver causing them to sparkle. She finally caught her breath. "Talk to me about what?"

Jerry was stammering. What was with her perfume today, it was driving him crazy. "About solving our problem."

There was silence for a few seconds and then it happened. Julia saw Jerry moving his lips toward hers. She did not know what surprised her more, the fact that Jerry's lips were coming toward hers or the fact that she was moving her lips forward to join with his. As their lips moved to within millimeters of each other, the intercom buzzed. They both just about jumped out of their skin at the sound. Dynamite would have registered less of an impact. Julia pulled herself together and pushed the speaker button.

"Yes, Addie."

"Ms. Barrett, it's Nancy Solomon of Ernst & Young with some questions about the financial statements."

"Addie, I'll take it in my office." Julia literally ran toward the door, opened it and hurried toward her office. She never looked at Jerry. When she got to her office she collapsed in the chair and put her hands to her flushed cheeks trying to cool the rise in her body temperature.

Meanwhile Jerry collapsed into his chair in the conference room wondering what the hell had just happened. He put his fingers to his neck and took a few deep breaths in an attempt to lower his rapid heart rate.

The Jacks' Residence -- 6:00pm

Jillian was asleep in the nursery and Brenda had just finished drying her hair from her shower. She thought back to earlier in the day when she had picked up her date book to note Jillian's next appointment with Simone. As she had thumbed through the pages, her eye caught the date for next Wednesday. It would be November 5, 1997. Her mind immediately had flooded with memories of November 5, 1996. She had tried to put the memories of that day, and the three months that followed it, out of her mind. She still trembled when she thought about how close she and Jax had come to losing everything during that period. The date also conjured up all the memories of Miranda and her deceit. Brenda and Jax had not discussed Miranda since the day she had left Port Charles.

Now Brenda worried that the day would cause Jax to relive the pain all over again. She could not bear to have him go through that again. She had to figure out a way to make the day so special that Jax would not have the opportunity to dwell on the past. Brenda also could not stop thinking about this morning. It was just another instance where something had happened to interrupt their plans to make love. At this rate, Jillian was going to be an only child and Brenda was going to kill herself. With the deadline for the Canadian Timber deal rapidly approaching, it was obvious nothing was going to change in the passion department for the next few days.

As she was contemplating what to do about November 5th, the phone rang. Brenda answered it and smiled as she heard Lois' voice on the other end. "Lo, how are you? Wait a minute, isn't Ned there with you? What is going on?"

"Calm down. I am fine. Ned is here. He is upstairs giving Brooke a bath."

"How are things?"

"I called because I need some words of encouragement before I chicken out."

"Chicken out of what?"

"I told Ned I would go out to dinner with him. You know, like a date. I can't believe I am doing this. I am here shaking like a leaf and my palms are sweating."

Brenda silently did her little dance but quickly composed herself. "Lois, we are talking about dinner here, no more. Ned isn't going to rush anything and neither should you. Just keep an open mind and see what happens. Relax, take a deep breath and have a good time. It is that simple."

"Thanks girlfriend. I needed that."

"You are doing the right thing, Lois."

"I know. Let's change the subject and talk about you. What's going on?"

"Besides the fact that I am obsessing over the fact that I have not made love to my husband in weeks and Jillian is fighting her first cold and Jax is tied up on a mega deal, not much."

"Is Jillian okay?"

"Yes, she had her one month check-up yesterday and Simone said she is fine. Her cold seems a little better today but she is still out of sorts."

"So, still no change in the romance department?"

"No, between exhaustion, illness, work, thunderstorms, ringing telephones, etc., we have been stymied at every turn. I am beginning to feel we will have to be out of this house to ever have a real chance to make love again."

"I wish I could do something to help you. You know that Ma and I are going to visit my aunt and uncle next week but when we get back, I can come to Port Charles and take care of Jillian and you guys can go away for a few days."

"That is a generous offer but I can't leave Jillian for a few days."

"You could go to a hotel for a romantic night."

"Actually this is not my biggest worry now, I just realized what this coming Wednesday is."

"What is it?"

"November 5th, the anniversary of the wedding that wasn't."

"Holy toledo. I am sure you both would like to wipe that date from the calendar."

"I am just worried about Jax. I don't want him to have to dwell on the whole Miranda fiasco."

"I wish I could help. As I said, I can be in Port Charles next weekend."

As Brenda sat there, the solution she was looking for hit her. "Lois, you are visiting your Aunt Maria and Uncle Tony, right?"

"Yes, we leave Monday and come back on Friday."

"Do they still live in the same place?"

"They will be buried in there. They have lived there for the past thirty years. What's up?"

"I think I have a plan but it is going to take me some time to put it together. I'll call you tomorrow night."

"Whatever it is I hope it works out for you. I will do anything I can for you two."

"Thanks. Now, you need to get ready for this evening. I want the details when I talk to you tomorrow. Have a great time."

"Thank you, thank you for everything."

Brenda put the phone down and her mind started racing. She had so much to do to pull this off but she knew it would be the answer to everything. She felt energized all of a sudden. She grinned thinking that Jasper Jacks was not going to be the only one in this marriage that could pull off a surprise like this.

The Jacks Residence -- 10:00pm

Jax, Jerry and Julia had come home about an hour ago after putting in a twelve hour day at the office. Tomorrow was expected to be the same. Jax had gotten home in time to feed Jillian before she went to sleep. Her cold seemed much better this evening. Brenda had been able to make a few arrangements for the surprise but still had plenty of work to do tomorrow while Jax was at the office.

Jax walked into the master suite as Brenda was checking on Jillian. For the time being, Jillian was still spending her nights in the bassinet in the living area of the master suite. This way she was close enough for Brenda to hear her but far enough away from the sleeping area of the master suite that Jax and Brenda would not disturb her.

"Honey, you look so exhausted."

"I'm fine. It will only be another two days."

Brenda walked over to Jax and stood behind him while she wrapped her arms around his waist. "I think what you need is a back rub. Get undressed and come to bed and I will let my magic fingers go to work."

"That sounds like heaven."

"Hurry up then."

Jax got undressed and came to bed wearing only his black silk boxers. He laid down on the bed and Brenda began massaging his neck. "You are just one series of knots." Brenda began gently massaging each kink until it completely disappeared. "Do you want to talk about it?"

Jax was finally beginning to relax. "We had a major problem with an issue concerning the use of certain assets as collateral for our financing. Finally, I think Jerry and Julia came up with a solution at the end of the day."

Brenda began massaging Jax's shoulders. "Did something happen today with them?"

"What do you mean?"

"They just seemed to be acting very strangely when you all came home. Jerry was much more low-keyed than usual and Julia spent a few minutes with Jillian and me and then went to her room."

"I am sure they are exhausted. It has been a very long week."

"Maybe. I just wonder."

Jax laughed. "Please don't tell me that you are referring to your belief that there is something going on between them?"

Brenda began working her way down Jax's back. "I never said anything was going on between them. That's the problem, they are denying their feelings."

"I think you are imagining things."

"Your mother agrees with me."

"You have got to be kidding?"

"No, she and I just spoke about the subject again on the phone yesterday when I called her to tell her how Jillian's doctor's appointment was."

"You both are crazy."

Brenda lightly swatted Jax's arm. "Hey, that's enough of that. Do you want my magic fingers to go on strike?"

"I apologize. I don't know what came over me."

"Apology accepted." Brenda gently rubbed Jax's lower back. Jax finally felt completely relaxed for the first time in days. "You are an angel. You always know exactly what I need."

Jax drifted off to sleep as Brenda finished his massage. She turned off the lamp and pulled the covers over him. She slid into bed and snuggled up next to him. "Sleep well my darling."

Tuesday, November 4, 1997
J & J Jacks -- 1:00pm

The efforts of the past three days had paid off. The final documents for the last stage of the Canadian Timber transaction were being executed. A press release had been drafted for distribution to the major newspapers, wire services and news media as soon as the final document was signed. Jax, Scott, Jerry and Julia were in the conference room with Gary Trudeau as well as the President, Vice President and attorney for Canadian Timber. Addie had just finished a telephone call with Brenda. Everything was set and Addie had her instructions. Jerry and Julia also had been apprised of Brenda's plans and knew what to do in case Jax did not cooperate.

The final documents were signed and the customary champagne and cigars were passed around the conference room. The press release was distributed and everyone breathed a huge sigh of relief. Stage one of the three part plan had been completed. It would be months before the final stage of the transaction would be concluded.

After Gary Trudeau and his entourage had departed, Jax went into his office to call Brenda to tell her the deal had closed. As he picked up the receiver, he stared at his calendar and realized what tomorrow was. He had been so involved over the past few weeks with the Canadian Timber deal, he had lost complete track of the date. Jax put down the receiver.

"November 5th, how could I have forgotten?" His thoughts took him back to that infamous day. He grimaced as recalled Miranda walking into the Quartermaine foyer, his father's heart attack and Brenda. "Oh God, Brenda. Tomorrow is going to dredge up all those horrible memories for her." Jax knew he had to think of something to do for tomorrow but his mind was not functioning well at this moment. He knew that Brenda probably wanted to eliminate November 5th from the calendar forever but he could never do that. As horrendous as the day had been, there had been one shining moment that would keep the day in his heart forever. It had been the first time Brenda had ever told him she loved him. It was one of the best days of his life.

Jax closed his eyes and leaned his head back against his chair. He remembered Brenda pounding on the guest room door telling him she had to see him before the wedding. When she entered the room, he remembered how his breath caught in his throat. She was the most beautiful bride he had ever seen. He remembered her proclamation of love and recalled that he had never felt as happy as he had been at that moment. Then all hell had broken lose and Brenda had been shattered. He had almost lost her.

Jax shook his head in an attempt to rid his mind of the memories. He threw some things in his briefcase and buzzed Addie to tell her he was leaving for the day and wouldn't be back until the day after tomorrow. Addie quickly called Jerry and Julia over to her desk to tell them of Jax's plan and the problem it was going to cause for Brenda. Jax then walked out of the office and told Jerry and Julia that he was leaving and wouldn't be back until the day after tomorrow.

"Jax, I know you want to get out of here but since you are going to be out tomorrow, we need to go over this schedule for Atlantic Shipping."

"Jerry, you and Julia can go over it."

"Jax, I am tied up all afternoon with the accountants so maybe you should spend a few minutes with Jerry going over it."

"All right Jerry. You have fifteen minutes."

Jax and Jerry went into Jax's office and reviewed the schedule. Jax then got two phone calls and finally was able to walk out of his office thirty minutes later. Julia and Jerry were milling around Addie's desk waiting for the phone to ring.

"I am leaving now. I will see you both at home."

Julia looked at her watch and the phone rang. She took a deep breath as Addie answered it. Addie seemed flustered and the concerned with the phone call and then seemed to lose the connection.

Jax was aware of Addie's concern. "Who was that?"

"Mr. Jacks, that was Mr. Yeager. Evidently there is a major problem with the aircraft. He wants you to meet him at the hanger immediately."

"What kind of problem?"

"The connection was horrible and then we were cut off. He sounded very upset."

Jerry got into the act. "That does not sound like Chuck at all."

"No, it doesn't. Try to call him back." Addie tried to call him back but there was no answer. Jax sighed. This afternoon was going downhill and fast. All he wanted was to get home and surprise Brenda. "I need to get home. Jerry, can you get out there?"

"I'm sorry, Jax, but I have the meeting with the bankers in half an hour."

"Great. I wanted to get home to Brenda. I don't have time to be running to the hanger."

Julia joined the act. "Jax, Brenda is not at home now. She is with Lucy and Serena this afternoon."

"That's right, Jax. She said that last night. You can get to the hanger and check on the trouble and still be back at the house before she returns home."

"All right. Let me out of here so I can get there and get home. Addie keep trying Chuck and if you reach and there is not an emergency, call me in the car."

"Certainly, Mr. Jacks. I will see you on Thursday."

Once Jax left, everyone let out a huge sigh of relief. He always had to make things so difficult. Brenda would be thankful for their efforts.

Julia and Jerry walked back toward their respective offices. They had not yet spoken of what had happened in the conference room over the weekend and they certainly were not prepared for such a discussion now.

The Jacks' Jet -- 3:00pm

Brenda turned off her cell phone after her conversation with Addie. Jax was on his way. Brenda thanked Addie for her assistance in ensuring Jax's cooperation with the plan. Addie had cleared Jax's schedule for the next two days and Jerry and Julia had promised to be available should any business emergency occur. Brenda had also spoken to Simone to ensure that it was safe for Jillian to fly and to find out the best thing to do for the baby during take-offs and landings.

Brenda had spoken to Lois and the plans were set for this evening. Brenda had the special gift she had bought for Jax hidden in her suitcase along with the new dress she had purchased for this evening. She also had another clothing purchase to unveil later tonight but she doubted she would be wearing that one for very long. At least that was what she hoped. Brenda smiled as she looked down at Jillian who was sitting in her car seat carrier.

"Are you ready? This is just the first of many adventures for you. When you are a Jacks, you have to be prepared for almost anything."

As Jax approached the airport, his thoughts were only on tomorrow and what could be done to make the day special for Brenda. It was Veronica's birthday and Jax needed to do something to make November 5th a day for celebration for Brenda rather than a remembrance of past pain. He knew what he wanted to do. Jax would give anything to spend the day making love with her. He wanted Brenda to feel every ounce of the love he felt for her. Jax let out a huge sigh. He longed for the taste of her luscious lips and the murmurings of love she whispered when their bodies became one. She owned his heart and soul and he ached for her.

As Jax pulled up next to the hanger, "Little Jet" was on the runway. "What the hell was going on?" Jax got out of the car and walked around the plane to try to locate Chuck Yeager.

There was no sign of the pilot but the cabin door was open. Chuck Yeager then walked out of the hanger toward the aircraft.

"Chuck, what the hell is going on around here? Why is the plane not in the hanger?"

"Mr. Jacks, we have a problem. There is something you must see inside the cabin of the aircraft." The pilot motioned toward the steps leading to the open cabin door. "After you, sir."

Jax climbed the steps and entered the rear of the passenger cabin. Brenda was by the window in the second row of seats from the front. She had slid down in her seat so that she could not be seen from the back of the plane. Jillian was beside her in the next seat.

Jax was getting exasperated. "What is the emergency?"

"Mr. Jacks, you will have to move to the first row seats in the cabin."

Jax walked up the aisle and as soon as he passed the second row of seats, he heard a familiar voice. "You must not have been very good at the game of hide and seek as a child."

The sound of her voice immediately filled his heart with the warmth of the desert sun. Jax turned around and his heart skipped a beat as he saw her beaming face. He stood there totally captivated by the sight of her.

"Captain Yeager, let us know when you have clearance for take-off and thank you for your help."

"You are welcome, Mrs. Jacks. I will alert you when we have been cleared."

Brenda sat up and looked at Jax. "Sit down. Make yourself at home. It's almost time to fasten our seatbelts."

Jax sat down in the aisle seat so that Jillian was between them. "Mrs. Jacks, what are you doing?"

"Mr. Jacks, you of all people should recognize a kidnapping. Although I understand from reliable sources that you tried your best to interfere with my plans for such."

"I see you had reinforcements available."

"Of course. I learned from the best."

"I guess I don't dare ask what our final destination is going to be."

"Of course you can ask. But getting an answer, that's another story entirely."

"You have mastered this technique."

"Naturally, it would not be a surprise otherwise. You'll know before we land."

Captain Yeager's voice came over the speaker system telling Jax and Brenda that they were clear for take-off. Jax fastened Jillian's carrier onto the seat as Brenda took the bottle out of Jillian's diaper bag to have it ready for Jillian during take-off.

Brenda rested her hand on Jillian's stomach. "Jillian, it's time for your first airplane ride. When we take off, Mommy is going to give you a bottle so your ears won't hurt."

Jax covered Brenda's hand with his and gazed at her. "Brenda, are you sure you are up to this?"

"Shhh. You are still in the midst of your four day reprieve. I don't want you worrying about me. I am taking care of you, remember? We have more excitement awaiting us so I suggest you get some rest."

Jax smiled. "I love you."

Brenda sexily raised her eyebrow at him. "You'd better. I don't go around kidnapping just anyone."

The plane took off and Jillian drank most of the bottle before falling asleep. Jax and Brenda held hands during the flight while spending most of the travel time in silence. No words were needed, their love surrounded them.

Three hours later, the plane prepared to make its descent. As Brenda fed Jillian a bottle, Jax grinned as he looked out the window. The sight of the steamboats and the Mississippi River below filled his heart with joy. New Orleans. Memories of last year's pre-wedding honeymoon raced through his mind. Jax closed his eyes as he recalled the music to which they danced in the rain and the incredible passion and intensity of their lovemaking. They had given themselves completely to one another that night.

Brenda saw the happiness on Jax's face and knew that he was reliving the memories of their first trip to the Crescent City. "I figured if we could have a pre-wedding honeymoon, the least we could do was have a post-childbirth honeymoon."

Jax softly swept the hair from Brenda's face. "Mrs. Jacks, you are so amazing."

Brenda smiled. "Mr. Jacks, you haven't seen anything yet."

New Orleans French Quarter -- 7:30pm

Since the plane had landed, Brenda's lips had been sealed about the activities of the evening. Jax had been thrilled when the driver pulled up to L'Hotel des Amoreux. Brenda had arranged for the same suite they had stayed in last November. Jax opened the balcony doors to allow the music of the Quarter to enter the suite as Brenda finished nursing the baby.

"Mr. Jacks, it's time to get dressed for dinner. You will find what you need in the garment bag. I am going into the bathroom to change. I am going to leave Jillian in her seat with you."

Jax looked at Brenda inquisitively. He wondered why she was making such a big deal of getting dressed for dinner. He knew they would be dining in the suite since they couldn't leave Jillian.

Brenda noticed his questioning look. "Jax, don't ask."

Jax shook his head and smiled as Brenda walked into the bathroom. "Jillian, your mother is something else."

After a few minutes, Jax had finished dressing. Brenda had packed Jax his charcoal gray silk suit which was her favorite. He was fixing his tie when he heard a knock at the door. Brenda had also heard the knock. "Jax, will you get the door?"

Jax walked into the living area of the suite wondering how much longer Brenda was going to be since dinner was here and Jillian was content. When he opened the door, his face registered a look of astonishment.

"Hey Jax, how are ya?"

"Lois?"

"You look quite handsome. Maybe you should shut the door. Is Bren ready yet? Who am I kidding, of course she isn't. I am going to go in and check on her."

Lois walked into the bedroom area of the suite as Jax stood perplexed in the living room. He closed the door and walked to the bedroom as Lois was picking up the infant seat. "Lois, what are you doing here?"

"Just passing through. Is Brenda in the bathroom? Of course she is, where else would she be?" Lois knocked on the bathroom door. "Brenda, I'm coming in." Lois then entered the bathroom.

Brenda was putting on her make-up when Lois walked into the room. "How is he?"

"Completely stunned. Look at you, he is going to flip."

"Do you really think he will like it?"

"He will probably hyperventilate when he sees you. Stand up and let me take a good look at you."

Brenda was wearing a long, black one shoulder column dress with a cut-out at the waist and a back slit. The dress hugged every curve of her body. She wore black double criss-cross strap high heeled sandals. Her hair was put up in a french twist with a mother-of-pearl comb. A few loose tendrils of curls framed her face. Her outfit was completed with a simple pair of mother-of-pearl earrings.

"Only you could wear a dress like that six weeks after giving birth. I don't know how Jax is ever going to let you out of this room in that outfit. Do you want me to stay here until you leave for the restaurant?"

"No, that isn't necessary. Here is a key to this room and Jax's cell phone number. The bellman is going to deliver the bassinet to your room shortly. The diaper bag is packed in the living room. I just put two bottles of milk in the bag. There are extra bottles of milk in the refrigerator in the living room. She only ate a half hour ago so she shouldn't need to eat for a few hours. I am hoping she can hold out until we get back but don't worry if she can't. We will check in with you when we get back from dinner."

"Brenda, chill. We are going to be fine and you are going to have an incredible evening. We are going to go now. Here is a key to my suite."

"Lois, are you sure you want to keep her all night?"

"Brenda, I volunteered for this remember. It is not going to kill me to get up at 3:00am to feed her."

"Good-bye sweetheart. Mommy and Daddy will see you soon. Aunt Lois is going to take good care of you. Lois, thanks for everything. I will never forget you for this."

"Yada, yada, yada. See ya!"

Lois walked out of the bathroom and walked over to Jax with the infant seat. "Say good-bye Daddy. Have a nice evening."

"Good-bye princess. Lois, where are you going?"

"Jax, just enjoy the ride."

Lois carried Jillian into the living room and picked up the diaper bag and then left the suite. Jax felt like he was in the twilight zone. He knew he was at Brenda's mercy so closed the french doors and then sat in the chair by the bed and waited for her.

Brenda opened the bathroom door and walked into the bedroom. "Mr. Jacks, are you ready?"

Jax's eyes were riveted on her. His throat was dry and he swallowed hoping it would enable him to speak. When he finally spoke it was in a hoarse whisper. "Brenda."

Brenda smiled at him but on the inside she was bubbling over with excitement. She had succeeded in taking his breath away. "Honey, are you okay?"

Jax walked toward her. She looked so damned gorgeous. "You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen."

"That's quite a compliment coming from the most handsome man I have ever seen. Are you ready to start our evening?"

"Lois is here? I can't believe you did all this."

Brenda put her finger up to his lips. "Shhh. There is nothing I wouldn't do for you. Let's go. Our evening awaits us."

Brenda grabbed her cape and Jax's hand and they set out for their evening together. They took the hotel limo outside of the French Quarter to dine at Emeril's. Brenda had reserved a corner table and they enjoyed a four course meal. Brenda had insisted that oysters be served as the appetizer and she proceeded to feed Jax both of their servings. The rest of the world failed to exist as they spent the evening holding hands and gazing into each other's eyes.

Once dinner had ended, the limo dropped Jax and Brenda off in the heart of the French Quarter. They walked toward the hotel arm in arm as they took in the sights and sounds of the city. They stopped to enjoy a cafe au lait at an outdoor cafe and then danced in the courtyard of the cafe. Jax closed his eyes as Brenda rested her head against his chest. Her body felt so warm against his. He lowered his head and kissed her bare shoulder. Her skin felt as smooth as silk. Jax felt Brenda's breathing quicken as his lips traveled to her neck. He trembled slightly at the feel of her breasts against his chest. He backed slightly away to look at her. The moonlight was shimmering from her dark hair providing a perfect frame for her face. He took her face in his hands and brought his lips to hers. The kiss was as sweet as the smell of the flowers on a spring day.

As their lips parted, they heard a familiar voice and a familiar statement. "There is nothing in the world as beautiful as young love. I see you have made a return visit to our romantic city." It was the same fortune teller that had spoken to them on their trip to New Orleans the year before.

"Jax, look who it is."

Jax rolled his eyes. "I see."

Brenda swatted his arm. "Sweetie, if you recall everything she said last year turned out to be true."

Jax remembered the fortune teller's warning about danger, a mysterious figure, and someone they knew not wanting them to be together. She had also mentioned a two-faced person. Unfortunately, the November 5th wedding day had featured all of these predictions. Finally, she had said that all these obstacles would be overcome as love would conquer all. It had all been true.

Brenda looked at Jax. "I want her to see what the cards say now."

Jax shook his head. "Brenda, I don't think is such a good idea."

The fortune teller looked at Jax. "I hope your daughter does not grow up to be as narrow minded as you are."

Brenda giggled and Jax shook his head at her. "Brenda, her father owns the hotel where we are staying. Jillian is not exactly invisible."

"What are you afraid of? Fortunately you showed more faith and confidence in yourself and the stars when you were delivering your Little Princess."

Brenda sat down at the nearby table. "Okay, that's it. Tell me what the cards say."

Jax laughed. "Okay, I guess you and Lucy belong to the same psychic friends network."

She turned over the cards and smiled. "Just as I suspected."

Brenda looked at the fortune teller. "What is it?"

"I see a long lifetime filled with love and adventure. I also see the love you have for your daughter being used as a tool to help others. Finally, I see the images of the fertility gods recurring so I get a strong sense of a large family."

Brenda raised her eyebrows. "Thanks for the warning. Do you see anything else about our daughter?"

"Do you have a picture of her?"

"Of course." Brenda pulled a picture from her wallet and handed it to the fortune teller. The photo was laid on the table and the cards were drawn around it.

"Your daughter is quite blessed. She has an outside force looking after her. This force will help you and your husband protect her and help make the decisions concerning her life."

"We can live with that. Thank you very much."

"You are quite welcome. Enjoy your stay in our city of romance."

Jax and Brenda bid her farewell and headed back to the hotel.

L'Hotel des Amoreux -- 11:00pm

Brenda and Jax had arrived back at the hotel. Brenda stopped at the suite next to theirs and slipped the key in the door. "Lois?"

Lois walked into the living room area of the suite with Jillian over her shoulder. Brenda immediately took the baby in her arms. "Hello sweetheart. Were you a good girl for Aunt Lois?"

"She most certainly was."

Jax stroked Jillian's cheek as she sucked on her hand. "Hey Princess. Does your hand taste good?"

"I think she can hold off to eat for a few minutes so why don't you two go change and then Jax can come back and feed her."

"Great idea." Brenda kissed Jillian on the forehead. "Good night sweetie. I love you. Daddy will be back soon." Brenda handed the baby back to Lois.

Brenda and Jax walked next door to their suite. Brenda immediately went into the bathroom and took her dress off. She put on the hotel's white terrycloth bathrobe and walked into the bedroom area. Jax was getting undressed. He looked around the room and was perplexed.

"Jax, what's the matter?"

"Where is the bassinet?"

"It's where it needs to be for Jillian to use it tonight. It's with Lois."

"You can't tell me that Lois is going to keep her all night."

Brenda slyly smiled at Jax. "It is our honeymoon, remember?"

Jax gave Brenda a huge grin. "Mrs. Jacks, you are amazing."

"Thank you. I am going to fill a bottle now so you can feed her. Lois has an extra bottle for the 3:00am feeding."

Jax took off his tie and jacket to get more comfortable. Brenda expressed enough milk to fill a bottle and gave it to Jax. "Kiss her good night for me again."

Jax took Brenda in his arms and kissed her forehead. "I will do that when I tell her again how extraordinary her mother is."

Jax went to Lois's suite while Brenda finished expressing her milk. The room service order was delivered and then Brenda opened up the suitcase to retrieve her second new outfit of the evening. She went into the bathroom to get changed. Brenda put on the ivory satin and lace teddy with a matching short robe. She then removed the combs from her hair so that it loosely hang around her face.

When Brenda had finished dressing, she walked out of the bathroom and put a CD in the CD player and then opened up the french doors leading to the balcony. As she stood on the balcony, she heard the front door open. Brenda walked inside and closed the french doors as Jax entered the bedroom.

"Is she okay?"

"Yes, she is asleep."

Brenda walked toward Jax. "It's just us then."

"Do you know how fantastic you look?"

Brenda put her hands on Jax's chest. "Tell me."

"You are simply breathtaking."

"Speaking of breathtaking." Brenda unbuttoned Jax's shirt and softly kissed his chest. She then pulled the shirt from his pants and pushed the shirt off his shoulders.

Jax lifted her chin and she surrendered her lips to his. Jax untied her robe and it quickly fell to the floor. Jax released her lips and he gasped as he looked at her. The plunging neckline of the teddy revealed the fullness of her breasts. "Brenda, are you sure?"

Brenda stroked his cheek. "I have never been more sure of anything in my life."

Jax swept her into his arms and walked over to the bed. The music on the CD player changed as the night of romance continued.

If you say my eyes are beautiful,
It's because they're looking at you.
And if you could only see yourself,
You'd feel the same way too.
You could say that I am a dreamer
Who's had a dream come true.
If you say my eyes are beautiful,
It's because they're looking at you.

As Brenda knelt on the bed, Jax removed his shoes and socks. Brenda's hands moved to Jax's waist and she unfastened his belt. She unbuttoned and then unzipped his pants. Jax stepped out of his pants revealing his blue silk boxers. Brenda extended her hand to him as he climbed into bed. He laid against the pillows as Brenda knelt beside him.

"Jax, I love you. Let me show you just how much. I have missed us so much." Brenda stroked the side of his face and lowered her lips to his. The kiss quickly intensified and sent electrical shock waves through him.

The music continued.

If you wonder why I'm smiling,
It's because I'm happy with you.
And the warm sensations touch my heart
And fill me through and through.
I could hold you close forever
And never let you go.
If you say my eyes are beautiful,
It's because I just love you so.

Brenda poured a glass of champagne and picked up the bowl of strawberries from the room service tray. She dipped a strawberry into the champagne and then brushed it against Jax's lips. He took a bite of the strawberry and then fed her the rest of each piece of fruit until the bowl was empty. Thereafter, Brenda licked and then fully kissed his lips to taste the remnants of the treat. She then gently sucked each of his fingers to remove the last morsels of the fruit's juice from his hands.

The song continued to set the mood.

Now my heart is an open door,
Won't you come inside for more.
You give love so sweetly now,
Take my love, take me completely now.
If you say my eyes are beautiful,
It's because they're looking at you,
And my eyes are just the windows
For my feelings to come through.

Jax's breathing had become heavy as Brenda's tongue left a trail from his ear to his neck to his opposite ear. Her hands traveled down his chest and she removed his boxers. She moved on top of him as he unsnapped the teddy and lifted it over her head. Her nipples had immediately hardened at the feel of his touch when he removed the teddy. She lowered her breasts to his chest and slowly moved down his chest so that her nipples brushed against him. His heart was beating so fast he did not know how it stayed in his chest. Jax gasped as he murmured her name and his hands moved to her chest. Brenda softly moaned as he gently cupped her breasts. Jax groaned at the feel of the warm, soft skin of her breasts between his fingers. His mouth and tongue then fully explored them and Brenda cried out his name.

The final verse of the song played.

And by far you are more beautiful,
Than anything I ever knew.
If you say my eyes are beautiful,
If you say my eyes are beautiful,
If you say my eyes are beautiful,
It's because they're looking at you.

Brenda's hands did their own exploring. As they slowly moved up his inner thighs, Jax's arousal level had reached its limit. The room was spinning. He begged her to join him but she was prolonging their ecstasy until the last moment. She wanted him to feel her love in every kiss, every touch, every caress, every stroke. Just when he did not think his heart could take her enticement any longer, she accepted all he had to give her. As Jax arched his back, she met him with synchronous movements. He groaned as she offered him everything she had. As he looked into Brenda's eyes, he saw love surrounded by the fires of passion. Jax felt her love completely overtake him as their connection deepened. She murmured "I love you" as they reached paradise together.

As the early morning hours approached, Brenda continued to indulge each of Jax's pleasures. Every thirst and hunger was satisfied beyond his wildest imagination. When the fires of their passions were finally extinguished, Jax laid in her arms. "Are you all right?"

Brenda kissed the top of his head. "I am perfect."

Jax snuggled deeper into her arms. "That does not even begin to describe you."

They knew that neither of them would ever forget this night. Their loved had enabled them to share a piece of heaven together.

L'Hotel des Amoreux -- 6:45am

Brenda awoke to find Jax's arms around her. He was still soundly sleeping. She smiled as she thought of all the energy he had expended last night and earlier this morning. He would probably sleep for at least another hour. She inched her way out of his arms and quietly got out of bed. Brenda grabbed Jax's shirt from last night off the floor and put it on. She slipped on a pair of panties and then put on the terrycloth bathrobe. She grabbed a pair of shoes and the key to Lois' room and then tiptoed out of the bedroom and left the suite.

She quietly entered Lois' suite. She heard no sounds nor saw any evidence of activity. Brenda sat on the couch in the living room and waited. As was her usual schedule, Jillian began to fuss almost immediately. Brenda walked into the bedroom area before Lois even got out of bed.

"Lois, don't get up. I will get her." Brenda picked Jillian up from the bassinet and kissed her. "Good morning. Mommy's here."

"Brenda, I would have gotten up with her. You should have stayed in bed with your husband."

"The dairy is open so I have to get up. Otherwise the cup would runneth over. It's no wonder why the dairy farmers milk their cows at the crack of dawn each morning."

Lois laughed. "I remember."

"Go back to sleep. I'll take her into the other room."

"Brenda, stay. I am used to getting up at this hour with Brooke. Ma and Aunt Maria have that pleasure this morning. Give me any details you can about last night."

Brenda sat on the bed next to Lois and began nursing Jillian. "It was perfect. It felt like we were the only two people in the world last night. We danced and laughed and just loved each other. I will never be able to repay you for enabling it to happen."

"Don't say another word about it. You have been such a true friend for me. You were with me when Brooke was born and you have been there every step of the way thereafter. I did not do anything for you that you have not already done for me."

"Even still I will never forget what you did for us."

"I am just glad you guys are so happy. You have been through a rough few months and you are stronger and more in love than ever."

"I want you to be this happy. Did you talk to Ned last night?"

"Yes. He is going to come to Brooklyn this weekend."

Brenda tried to give Lois a look of nonchalance. "Do I foresee another date?"

"He has some charity function in Manhattan and he wants me to accompany him."

"So, are you going to go with him?"

"I told him, 'Yes.'"

Brenda smiled. "Good."

"Girlfriend, don't get all excited. It's just some gala."

"Fine, whatever you say."

Lois raised her eyebrow at Brenda. "Why did that sound so insincere?"

"Lois Marie, your heart is winning and there is nothing you can do to stop it now. I heard it in your voice when we spoke after your date last weekend and I see it in on your face now. That glow is back in your eyes. I see the old Lois coming back."

"Yeah, the old Lois who couldn't put up with the machinations of the Quartermaine family."

"No, the old Lois who is a fighter and won't stop until she gets what she wants. Guess what, you want Ned. You two will figure out how to make this work. I can feel it."

Lois shook her head and Brenda finished feeding Jillian. As was her standard routine, Jillian fell back to sleep immediately. Brenda put her back into the bassinet and promised Lois that she and Jax would take the baby off her hands once she awoke again later this morning. Brenda then left Lois' suite to return to Jax.

Brenda tiptoed into the bedroom and saw that Jax was still sleeping. She took off the robe and slipped off her shoes before silently climbing back into bed. Brenda propped herself up on her elbow and laid down facing Jax. She took a deep breath as she looked at him, he was so handsome. Brenda still had to pinch herself at times to ensure that she wasn't dreaming. Jax had given her everything she had ever wanted. She forced herself to resist the urge to kiss the cleft on his chin.

After a few moments, Jax began to stir. Brenda took her finger and traced his jawline. "Good morning."

Jax smiled as he opened his eyes. "You can say that again."

Brenda flashed him a smile which lit up the room. "Okay. Good morning."

Jax laughed and pulled her into his arms. His lips softly covered hers. "Brenda, last night ..."

Brenda put her finger to his lips. "Shhh. You don't have to say anything. I know."

"It was incredible. I have never felt so loved."

"Last night does not even begin to show what I feel in my heart for you. My love for you has no boundaries."

Jax smiled at her and then glanced at the clock. "The baby. She should have been awake thirty minutes ago."

"She was. I went next door to feed her and she is sleeping again. She wanted me to wish you a good morning."

"Do you mean we have a few hours alone together?"

"That's right."

"Well, since it is past midnight, my four day reprieve is over so I guess I have to devote my time and attention to you again."

Brenda laughed. "That was the deal."

Jax tightened his hold on Brenda and rolled her onto her back.

"Mrs. Jacks, it is my turn now then." Jax began nibbling on her ear and neck.

Brenda was breathless. "Your turn for what?"

"Showing you how much I love you. Prepare for an intensive demonstration."

Brenda tried to put a serious look on her face. "Are you sure you have the strength after last night?"

Jax lifted his head and grinned at her. "Mrs. Jacks, you are going to pay for that remark." Jax then began tickling her.

Brenda was trying to scream but she was laughing too hard to speak. Finally she was able to catch her breath. "Stop. Jax, I take it back, I take it back."

The sound of Brenda's giggling quickly ceased as Jax's lips overtook hers. In a matter of seconds, their bodies were on fire. Jax took her in his arms and they sunk into the pillows as their passions rapidly engulfed them. Paradise was just as amazing this morning as it had been the night before.

After their early morning splendor, Brenda had drifted off to sleep in Jax's arms. He had watched her mesmerized by the feel of her heartbeat against him. Jax smiled to himself as he realized that while he had been worried about her memories of this day, Brenda obviously had only been worried about his thoughts. Their love was stronger and more resilient than any memory of the past could ever be.

Jax looked at the clock and realized that Jillian was probably awake by now. He slipped out of bed after giving Brenda his pillow to cuddle up with as she slept. He threw on some clothes and went to Lois' suite. Jillian had just awakened. Jax hugged Lois and thanked her for everything before he took Jillian next door.

When Jax entered the bedroom, Brenda was still asleep. Jax crawled back into bed beside her and then propped Jillian up on a pillow between them. After a few moments, Brenda began to awaken. She opened her eyes and smiled at the picture before her eyes.

"Hello precious. How did Mommy's little angel get here?"

"Jillian, tell Mommy that Daddy came to get you. You missed us."

"Mommy and Daddy missed you too, sweetheart. Do you know Jillian that today is your Grandmother Veronica's birthday? You look so much like her. You are so beautiful."

Brenda then began tickling Jillian's stomach and it happened. Right before both of Jax and Brenda's eyes, Jillian flashed them a smile. Her first smile. Their hearts leapt and they heard the angels sing.

A tear rolled down Brenda's cheek. "Jax, did you see her?"

Jax smiled as he put his arm around Brenda. "I saw her, sweetie. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen."

Brenda took Jillian in her arms. "It was perfect. Everything is perfect."

Jax kissed Brenda's cheek and then kissed Jillian's cheek. "It certainly is."

J & J Jacks -- 2:00pm

Julia was behind closed doors in her office. This had been her routine since the incident with Jerry in the conference room a few days before. Until yesterday afternoon, they had all been so busy with Canadian Timber so it had been easy for Julia to avoid the situation. Now, there was no deadline enabling her to try to forget what happened so she was simply avoiding Jerry.

Julia had dreaded being alone with Jerry in the house. Without Jax and Brenda in town, there would be no buffers. Julia had arranged for a late dinner meeting both last night and this evening hoping to avoid Jerry at the house. Her plan had been successful last night. Jax and Brenda would be home tomorrow so she only had to get through this evening without their presence in the house. Julia also knew that Jerry was leaving this weekend for a ten day trip to Australia. At least he would be on the other side of the world then.

Julia's secretary had taken a late lunch so no one was in the outer office when Jerry walked into the office suite. He opened the office to Julia's office and walked in, closing the door behind him.

"Don't you ever knock?"

Jerry walked back toward the door and knocked on the inside of it. "Knock, knock."

"You are impossible."

"Thank you. I aim to please."

"What the hell do you want?"

"Excuse me for breathing. The corporate resolutions from Atlantic were just faxed. I found them in the fax machine and I thought I would do you a favor and bring them to you. I won't make that mistake again."

"Just give them to me."

"What is your problem?"

"I don't have a problem. I have work to do and you are preventing me from doing it."

"Whatever. Have you heard from Brenda?"

"No, and I do not expect to. Why?"

Jerry gave Julia sly smile. "I was just wondering how good of a mood my brother is going to be in when he gets back tomorrow."

"You are disgusting."

"Hey, I am just concerned about Jax and Brenda. I hope all the excitement wasn't too much for either of them." Jerry walked closer to the desk. "You know what it's like when all that passion and desire have been built up with no place to go."

Julia swallowed hard. "I am not going to sit here and talk to you about Jax and Brenda's sex life. And I certainly am not going to talk to you about my own sex life."

"Maybe if you had one, this would be a more interesting conversation."

"Is smut your middle name?"

"Would you like it to be?"

Julia stood up from her chair. "Get the hell out of my office."

"Ms. Barrett, you look a little flushed. I guess this subject gets you all hot and bothered."

Julia walked around the desk and opened the office door. "Get out."

Jerry walked through the door. "You should get some air. We wouldn't want to have to call an ambulance."

Julia slammed the door behind him and walked back to her desk and sat down. Her face felt like it was on fire. Why did she let him get to her? Why did she let thoughts of him fill her mind periodically? Why was she so afraid of the way she felt about him at times? Julia hated being afraid of anything. She wanted to hate Jerry Jacks. He was everything she despised but a part of her refused to hate him. It was driving her crazy.

Jerry walked back to his office shaking his head. He could not figure Julia out. More importantly he couldn't figure out how he felt when he was around her. Most of the time she just infuriated him but there were times when she totally threw him off balance. Jerry hated that feeling. He hated not being totally in control. His mind then ventured back to the scene in the conference room when he had almost kissed her. He tried to pass it off as the result of overwork, frustration and pure desire but a part of him told him that it was the result of something much more. He really hated that idea.

L'Hotel des Amoreux -- 9:00pm

It had been a wonderful day. Lois had returned to her aunt and uncle's house to continue her visit. They had a home in the garden district of New Orleans and had thoroughly enjoyed having a day with Brooke and Gloria while Lois had helped out Jax and Brenda. Jax and Brenda promised Lois that one day they would repay her for the tremendous favor she had done for them.

The weather was mild so Jax and Brenda had taken Jillian for a tour of the city. They had visited Jackson Square and had their picture taken in front of the St. Louis Cathedral. In an antique shop on Royal Street, Brenda bought a beautiful crystal rendition of the St. Louis Cathedral. It would be a memento of their first family vacation. Jillian had fallen asleep in the stroller so Jax and Brenda had enjoyed a leisurely lunch at Jax's favorite oyster bar in the French Quarter.

The weather this evening was again mild so the balcony doors were opened. The sound of the music from the street below flowed through the air. Jillian was asleep in the living room area of the suite and Jax and Brenda had just finished dinner. They had dined by candlelight on the balcony. Jax stood up from the table and extended his hand to Brenda.

"May I have this dance?"

"It would be my pleasure."

Brenda rested her head on Jax's chest as they danced to the music. She smiled as she felt the steady beating of his heart. Jax closed his eyes as he rested his chin on top of Brenda's head. She felt so good in his arms. If it were up to him, they would stay like this forever.

"Brenda, I can't even begin to tell you what the past day and a half have meant to me. When I think back to last year at this time and everything I put you through..."

Brenda pulled away from him slightly as she interrupted his statement. "No. You didn't put me through anything. We both had our pasts to resolve so that we could be totally free to commit to each other. We both made mistakes but they don't matter anymore. All that matters is that we are together now. We have a beautiful daughter who is going to be raised amidst our love. I don't want your memories of November 5th to ever cause you pain or regret."

"They don't. My only memories of November 5th are you telling me that you loved me. I will never forget that. It was one of the happiest moments of my entire life."

Brenda stroked his cheek. "I love you. It has been a year since I first could say those words to you. I loved you then but now I love you so much it hurts. You have completely filled my heart."

Brenda then stepped back from Jax's embrace. "Wait one minute." She went back into the bedroom and opened her suitcase to retrieve the box. She walked back onto the balcony and handed Jax the box.

"I have been waiting for the perfect moment to give this to you."

Jax looked at Brenda. "What is this?"

"A remembrance of a special day."

Jax opened the box and found a beautiful gold and diamond watch. He turned the watch over and found the following inscription: "November 5, 1996: The day I became yours truly."

Jax felt as if his heart was doing back flips. "Brenda, I will treasure this. I will never forget what you said to me that evening. When you told me that you were crazy, head over heels in old-fashioned love with me, I thought my heart would burst with the love I felt for you."

"I know the feeling. I will never forget what you said to me on this very balcony the night before that day. Your words that night echo my feelings today. Every time I look into your eyes, I feel like I am looking into my own soul. I, too, am completely sure of what's in my heart -- it's you and only you."

Jax took Brenda's hand in his and placed it over his heart. "I have entrusted my heart to you forever."

As though there was a magnetic field between them, their lips were drawn together into an ardent kiss. The kiss deepened and Brenda's fingers ran through Jax's golden locks. She jumped into his arms wrapping her legs around his waist. He walked into the bedroom as he kicked the balcony door shut with his foot. Brenda moaned as his tongue delved into her mouth. They quickly undressed each other and Jax pulled Brenda into bed on top of him. Their bodies quickly became entwined as their love overtook them. Jillian remained fast asleep as they gently and tenderly shared their love. The night was magical as again they had shared a glimpse of heaven together.

The Jacks Residence -- 8:00am

The past two weeks had quickly passed. Jax and Brenda had returned from the bliss of New Orleans more in love than ever. Jillian was slowly settling into a routine which enabled Jax and Brenda to find some time for themselves. Julia had finally had the opportunity to look for a place to live and she just had found a loft on the waterfront that she decided was the perfect location for her. She had met with an architect about the renovations she wanted and the work was now in progress. Julia anticipated moving sometime next month.

The renovation and reconstruction of the warehouses for J & J Jacks had just been completed. The frenzy caused by the Canadian Timber deal had dissipated. Julia was now concentrating on Atlantic Shipping. Jerry had been in Australia for the past week and a half but was expected back in Port Charles this afternoon. There was a board meeting for the Charles Street Foundation on Friday that both Jax and Jerry needed to attend. John and Jane would be back in Port Charles next week for Thanksgiving. Robin would also be in town for the long weekend. Jillian had changed so much in the past few weeks and Brenda was anxious for everyone to see her. Every day Jillian's personality became more defined and Brenda and Jax loved her even more as each day passed.

Jax was softly humming to himself as he got dressed. Brenda walked into the bedroom from the nursery. "Is she asleep?"

"Out like a light."

Brenda climbed back into bed. "You are certainly chipper this morning."

"Why wouldn't I be? I get to wake up with you in my arms every morning and we have a beautiful little girl."

"Oh, I see. Silly me thought that your good mood may have something to do with the fact that you are going to see Edward today."

Jax chuckled. "Well, Edward is going to grace the offices of J & J Jacks with his presence today for the very first time."

Brenda raised her eyebrows. "Don't you mean he is going to be entering the lion's den?"

Jax grinned at her. "I guess you could say that."

"Am I going to have to remind you to play nice?"

"Of course not; however your definition of nice may differ from that of mine."

Brenda laughed. "Mr. Jacks, you are impossible. Sometimes I just don't know why I put up with you."

Jax walked over to the bed and sat next to her. "It's all my charm and charisma. It has been known to beguile even the mightiest of women."

Brenda looked at Jax trying not to laugh. "We are feeling quite sure of ourselves today, aren't we?"

Jax smirked. "You might say that."

"Be careful when you walk out of here. I don't know if your head is going to fit through the door."

"That'll never happen. Well, I am off to the winner's circle, I mean the office." Jax kissed Brenda good-bye.

Brenda shook her head in amazement at Jax's antics. "Jax, try to be happy and get yourself into a better mood."

Jax laughed. "I will try."

J & J Jacks -- 2:00pm

Scott and Julia were already in the conference room reviewing materials on Atlantic as they awaited Justus and Edward's arrival. Edward and Justus walked into the main reception area of the office and Addie was alerted by the receptionist. Addie buzzed Jax to inform him of the arrival. Per Jax's request, Addie told the receptionist to have Edward and Justus wait.

Edward was pacing the floors of the reception area. "The scoundrel is doing this on purpose just to infuriate me. He knows how loathsome this afternoon is going to be for me and he is making me suffer."

"Edward, just calm down."

"He is probably sitting back there playing one of those God forsaken pinball games of his."

"Sit. You are making me dizzy."

After fifteen minutes, Jax decided Edward had sulked long enough. Jax stopped playing the dart game he had been enjoying for the past fifteen minutes and asked Addie to show Edward and Justus to the conference room.

After Justus and Edward had taken a seat, Jax walked into the conference room. "Edward, what a pleasure to have you honor us with a visit."

"Jax, you can save your breath. I am only here to discuss the rehabilitation center issue before the Foundation board meeting on Friday. Otherwise, I wouldn't be caught dead in the enemy camp."

"Edward, I am flattered that you consider us the enemy."

"Between you and that turncoat of a brother of yours, I don't know which of you is worse. My only good fortune today is that the turncoat is not here."

The conference room door then opened. "Grandpa Eddie, the turncoat is here. Did you miss me?"

Justus had to put his hand in front of his mouth to hide his grin.

"Jerry, I thought you weren't due back until this evening?"

"Jerry walked over and slapped Edward on the back. "I couldn't miss the opportunity to see Grandpa Eddie."

Julia turned her head so that no one would see her laughing. Her reaction did not go unnoticed by Jerry.

Smoke was coming out of Edward's ears. "Listen here you, I am watching you."

"I think you better sit down old man before you keel over."

Jax grinned. "We certainly don't want anything to happen to you. That would make our take-over plans for ELQ so much less fun."

Edward stood up and pointed his finger at Jax. "You try anything like that again you, traitor, and I will have your head on a plate. I feel so sorry for that daughter of yours. What kind of upbringing can she expect with a father like you?"

Jax chuckled. "I don't know, Edward, let's ask Tracy. Or is she now known as the Mob Queen?"

Scott and Julia hid their faces in their hands to maintain their composure.

Justus stood up. "Okay, round one is over. I suggest we get down to business."

Jerry sat down. "Good idea, Justus. We wouldn't want the old man to get too excited so that he stops breathing. I am certainly not doing mouth to mouth on him."

Everyone regained their composure and put on their business faces. Decisions were made concerning the financing and management of the rehabilitation center. Despite its shaky start, the meeting proved to be very productive. ELQ and J & J Jacks would actually be in pursuit of a common goal. The next few months promised to be very interesting especially since everyone knew there would be some fireworks along the way.

The Jacks' Residence -- 8:00pm

Jax, Brenda and Julia were finishing dinner. Jax had filled Brenda in on the antics from the meeting with Edward. Jax and Julia were both still laughing about it. Brenda shook her head at both of them.

"Where is Jerry? I thought he would have been here hours ago after the long flight."

"Jerry is immune to jet lag. He should be here soon. He went to get a massage at the gym."

"Jose has put aside his dinner for him."

"Sweetie, tell us how your day was."

"Pretty uneventful. I did speak to Lois."

"Have she and Ned made any progress?"

"Yes, I am happy to say. Lois has agreed to come to the Quartermaines for Thanksgiving and to spend the weekend."

Jax smiled at her. "That sounds promising."

"I think so. Ned is going to go to Bensonhurst on Wednesday and then spend the first half of Thanksgiving day with Lois and her family. Then he is going to bring Lois and Brooke to Port Charles for dinner and the rest of the weekend."

"I hope they can work it all out. I think she is good for Ned."

"Julia, you're right and Ned is good for Lois. They love each other and they should be together."

Jerry then came into the house and walked into the dining room. "Good evening all. What are we discussing?"

Brenda grinned at him. "True love."

Jerry rolled his eyes. "For heaven's sake, why?"

"Why not? Maybe if you would allow yourself to experience the concept, you would understand."

"What is it with you women and this true love garbage? You know it is really just used to justify sex."

Jax sighed. "Jerry, stop being an idiot."

Julia folded her arms in front of her. "I'd pay to see that."

"You three are just saps when it comes to romance. Well, I see how appreciated I am in this room. I guess I'll have to go check on Roo to get some acknowledgment."

Julia spoke. "She's still safe for you, she's only seven weeks old. I figure women will tolerate you until they are about three. Thereafter they will see you for the pig you really are."

"Who are you calling a pig?"

"You. I am not going to let my goddaughter fall prey to your warped ideas about love."

"I certainly am not going to let my goddaughter be influenced by someone like you who thinks it is okay for a woman to get her claws into a man just for his money."

Julia bolted up out of her chair. "How dare you say that to me?"

"The truth hurts."

"You take that back."

"Sorry, I have a no refund, no return policy."

Julia started toward Jerry to wring his neck and he took off out of the dining room with her chasing behind him. Brenda and Jax heard them yelling as Julia chased Jerry up the stairs.

Jax took a sip of his wine. "Another typical night in the Jacks household."

"It's hard to believe there was peace and quiet in this house for almost two weeks."

"You must admit one thing though?"

"What's that?"

Jax grinned. "It's never going to be dull."

Brenda picked up her water glass. "I'll drink to that."

Jax picked up his wine glass and they clicked glasses and enjoyed the few minutes of peace and quiet before the inevitable next round began.

General Hospital -- 11:00am

John and Jane had arrived last night for the Thanksgiving weekend. Robin was due in town this afternoon. Lois and Ned would be back from Bensonhurst tomorrow afternoon. This weekend would also mark the second anniversary of Stone's death. In commemoration of this, the Stone Cate's AIDS Wing was being dedicated on Saturday.

Jillian had her two month doctor's visit this morning with Simone. Jax was tied up with the City Council concerning the rehabilitation center so Brenda was handling the visit solo. She was waiting in the lounge for Simone to be available. Brenda picked up the newest kangaroo that Jerry had just sent Jillian from Australia and put it in the stroller. The hospital was buzz with activity. Reporters were already gathering background information on the new wing and its benefactors. Brenda just hoped that Robin was going to prepared for this.

Brenda noticed a little boy about four years old walking in the hallway. He was crying and obviously very upset. She walked toward him. "Honey, what's the matter?"

"My mommy had to go home."

"Your mommy will be back."

"No, it is too far. She had to go home for turkey day. Do you live far away too?"

"No, honey, I don't."

"Your baby is lucky. She won't have to be alone." Brenda saw the little boy eyeing the kangaroo in Jillian's stroller. "What is that?"

"That is a kangaroo. Have you every seen one before?"

"Only in my Winnie the Pooh book. Mommy says that don't live around here."

"Your Mommy is right. They live very far away from here in a place called Australia."

Bobbie walked over to the lounge area. "Jimmy, what are you doing out of bed?"

"I miss my mommy."

"I know you do. I am going to have Nurse Amy take you back to your room but I promise I will come in later and read you a story." Bobbie motioned for Amy to come into the lounge.

"Okay Nurse Bobbie."

"Jimmy, why don't you take this kangaroo until your mommy comes back."

"It's not mine." Jimmy pointed at the stroller. "It belongs to her."

"Her name is Jillian and she likes to share. Since she is sleeping now, the kangaroo is lonely. Jillian wants you to keep it company."

"Okay, I'll take care of it for her. Good-bye pretty lady."

"Good-bye Jimmy. Remember you promised to keep the kangaroo company."

Amy took Jimmy to his room while Brenda spoke with Bobbie. "Bobbie, where is his mother?"

"His mother and his two sisters live two hundred miles from here. He is in a special program we have for pediatric AIDS patients. The grant covers the cost of the treatment but can't do anything toward the family's living expenses. Unfortunately his family, like so many others, can't afford to have two separate households so the families are constantly pulled between home and hospital. Jimmy's mother is a single parent and with the holiday, she had no one to take care of the other children. Since she can't afford a hotel in town for all of them, she had to return home.

"So Jimmy is alone?"

"It is a terrible situation for all of these children and their families. Times are rough enough and this just adds to the suffering."

"It breaks my heart to think what these families are going through."

"I know. Unfortunately, we can't do anything about it. We can barely cover the costs of the treatment."

Simone came into the lounge and Brenda and Jillian followed her to the office. Brenda cringed as Jillian cried when she received her immunizations. Simone examined Jillian and was pleased with her progress.

"I see she is smiling."

"All the time now. She also responds to our voices and faces now."

"Great. She is doing just what she should be doing. Is she sleeping better at night?"

"Yes, most of the time. I finally have stopped checking on her breathing every hour so she is sleeping in the nursery now."

"Okay. I want to see her in two months. Call me if you have any questions or problems in the meantime."

"Thanks Simone."

"You're welcome. Do you have big plans for the holiday?"

"Jax's family is in town and of course we will be here for the dedication on Saturday. What about you and Tommy?"

"We will be with Audrey for dinner. We are coming over here in the afternoon to spend some time with the patients that don't have their families here."

"I met Jimmy and Bobbie told me about the problems his family and so many other families have with the separation. It is terrible to think these families can't be together in times like this."

"It is a real problem and getting worse. The pediatric AIDS program has more applicants every day. We are going to be facing these obstacles for many days to come."

"Something has to be done. We just need to figure out the best way to handle the situation."

"If you come up with an answer, please let me know."

"I will. Have a good holiday and we will see you on Saturday."

After Brenda left Simone's office, she walked by Jimmy's room. The door was open and she saw Bobbie sitting on Jimmy's bed reading him a story. Clutched in Jimmy's arms was the kangaroo.

J & J Jacks -- 3:00pm

Julia was running late for her meeting. She was throwing files into her briefcase as Jerry barged into her office. He was waving a draft of the press release in his hand.

"Jerry, what do you think you are doing with this press release? I told you that I did not want to go public with this yet."

"And I told you that Trudeau is going to release the information on Friday. We need to get a jump on it to take the wind out of his sails."

"That is not your decision to make."

"I do not have time for this, Jerry. I am late already. Stop pouting and get over it. You may not like the timing but we have no choice."

"Don't tell me that I don't have a choice. For all I know, you orchestrated this whole thing. You wanted to go public with this last week. Maybe you leaked the information to Trudeau thinking you could force my hand."

"You have completely lost your mind. I am out of here. I refuse to listen to this nonsense any longer."

Julia stormed out of her office and told her secretary she was leaving for her meeting. Jerry followed her to the elevators. "Julia, don't think you can just walk away from me about this."

"Just watch me."

The elevator door opened and Julia walked into the elevator. Jerry followed behind her.

"What the hell do you think you are doing?"

"I have not finished with you yet. No one walks out in the middle of a discussion with me."

Julia hit the button for the next floor so she could get away from him. "I am not going to stand here and put up with this."

Jerry depressed the button so that elevator would not stop on the next floor. "We are going to resolve this."

Smoke was coming out of Julia's ears. "Like hell we are." Julia pushed the button for the next floor and again Jerry depressed the button to cancel the command. Julia and Jerry repeat their button pushing escapades for the next three floors and then the elevator came to a screeching halt between the third and fourth floors of the building.

Jerry sighed. "Now look what you have done."

"Me? You were the one that was canceling all the button commands."

"You started it."

Julia started yelling and then hit the alarm bell. "Help! Get me out of here. I am stuck in here with a complete lunatic."

"Stop being so melodramatic. Someone will be here soon to "rescue" you. Pipe down. You are giving me a headache."

"Good. You are driving me insane."

"I can't take credit for that. You were insane when I met you. Actually insane and wet if I recall."

"Shut up."

Jerry started laughing at Julia. "And you had a broken heel. I love cabs don't you?"

"I am going to strangle you."

"Be careful, you may break a nail."

Julia lunged at him forcing him to back into the corner of the elevator. Jerry grabbed her hands which were coming toward his neck. Their eyes met as their faces were within inches of each other. Jerry released her hands and took her face in his hands. Their lips were drawn together like magnets. His lips completely possessed hers but Julia put up no resistance. She moaned as she felt the raging fires of the kiss engulf her lips. Her knees were buckling. Jerry deepened the kiss and he began to feel dizzy. His heart was beating so fast and so loudly, he knew she could hear it.

Then the elevator began to moving, startling both Jerry and Julia. They moved apart and both were trying to catch their breath as the elevator doors opened to the lobby of the building. Julia did not look back at him as she ran out of the building toward the parking garage. Jerry stood in the lobby wondering what the hell was going to happen now.

The Jacks Residence -- 9:00pm

Jax had fed Jillian and put her in the nursery. Brenda was sitting at the piano in the living room. She had spent a considerable amount of time at the piano today. It had been therapeutic. Jillian had seemed to enjoy the sound of the music and Brenda needed a way to deal with her feelings. She was not looking forward to this weekend at all. Being at the hospital today had stirred up the memories of all the time she had spent there with Stone. The dedication plans, her visit with Jimmy and her last phone conversation with Robin were dancing around in her head.

Jax walked into the room and knew that she was lost in thought. He had also noticed her preoccupation at dinner. "Hey, that was beautiful."

Brenda smiled at him but Jax saw the pain behind her eyes. "Thanks."

"Do you want to talk about it? It tears me up to see you hurting like this."

Brenda got up from the piano bench and joined Jax on the sofa. He pulled her into his arms and kissed the top of her head. "It's this weekend and Stone, isn't it?"

"Yes. Last year I was out of it because of everything we were going through so I didn't have to face this. Now we have the anniversary and the dedication and I am worried about Robin. Then to top it all off, I met this little boy at the hospital today who is in the AIDS program and has to be separated from his family because of it."

"This disease and the suffering it causes is tragic. The lives that have been lost and the lives that will be lost due to it are devastating. It just reminds us once again how lucky we are."

"Seeing that little boy and knowing what his family must be going through just breaks my heart. What if it were Jillian?"

"Is there something we can do?"

"There must be. I just have to figure out what."

"I just want you to remember that I am here for you. I know you are concerned about Robin and everyone who loved Stone but you need to be able to deal with your own grief as well."

Brenda looked up at Jax and tenderly kissed his lips. "I know you are here with me. It is the only thing that gets me through times like these."

Jane and John then walked into the living room. "I hope we are not interrupting anything."

"No, come sit down."

"Jax, do you know what is bothering your brother? I know there is something wrong when your brother passes on dinner."

"Mum, I stopped trying to figure Jerry out a long time ago."

"Brenda, where is Julia this evening? I haven't seen her since we arrived last night?"

"She was supposed to be here for dinner but Corrine said she called this afternoon to say she had made other plans. Jax, did something happen at the office between them?"

"Besides the daily shouting match, no. Well, there was the elevator incident."

"What incident?"

"The main elevator got stuck between floors trapping the two of them inside it."

Jane brushed her hand through her hair. "Oh, I see."

Brenda smiled at Jane. "This is all beginning to make some sense now."

John shook his head. "What are you two talking about?"

Jax rolled his eyes. "Don't tell me you are starting this again? What is with you two? They can't stand each other and you think they are pining away for one another."

"Son, I couldn't stand your father when I first met him but that never stopped me from falling for him."

"Jane, what a nice thing to say."

"It's the truth, John, and as I recall you weren't too crazy about me either."

The sound of the front door opening was heard and Julia walked into the foyer and heard activity in the living room. She walked into the room and was greeted by everyone.

"We missed you at dinner."

"I'm sorry, something came up about the renovations for the loft that I had to deal with."

Brenda gave Julia a questioning look. "The night before Thanksgiving?"

Jerry then came downstairs and walked into the living room. Brenda and Jane both intently watch the interaction between Jerry and Julia. Neither Jerry nor Julia would meet the other's eyes. They were obviously very uncomfortable being in the same room together.

"Son, come sit down. I want to hear what happened in Australia."

"Dad, I have some things to do this evening. We can talk about Australia tomorrow before the football games."

"I am going to go upstairs. I have some materials to go over for Barrett Industries. Tomorrow is not a holiday in London. Everyone have a good night. I will see you in the morning." Julia walked out of the room and quickly headed upstairs.

"I am going out for awhile. I will see you all tomorrow." Jerry walked out of the living room and left the house.

Jane sighed. "Just as I suspected."

Brenda nodded her head. "Exactly. I would love to know what happened in that elevator."

Jax laughed. "Listen to you both. You sound like two teenagers."

"Pay him no mind, Brenda. I just wonder how stubborn my son is going to be about this."

"Probably no more stubborn than my sister will be. I think they will need a little prodding."

"Definitely."

John chuckled. "Something tells me that Jerry and Julia don't stand a chance."

"Dad, you can't tell me that you are agreeing with this."

"Son, agreement has nothing to do with this. Acceptance of the inevitable is the key. If our wives have decided to do this, nothing is going to stop them. Get used to it, it will make your married life much easier."

Brenda and Jane both laughed as Jax shook his head at the scene. Brenda took Jax's hand in hers. "You're outnumbered honey. Just get used to it."

Jax pulled Brenda back into his arms. "Heaven help us all, especially Jerry and Julia."

The Jacks Residence -- 6:00am

Thanksgiving had been quiet but enjoyable. Robin had stopped by in the afternoon before she had joined Mike, Sonny and Jason for dinner at the Spencers. Brenda was happy that John and Jane seemed to be enjoying their time with Jillian. Jillian loved the sound of John's deep laugh and always rewarded it with a smile.

Last night, Lois and Ned had joined Brenda and Jax for dinner at the Grille. Jane had babysat for Jillian while Brooke was with Lila. Brenda was relieved to see that Ned and Lois were much more at ease with each other during dinner then they had been even just a few weeks before. Spending every weekend together was definitely allowing them to make some headway. Lois even seemed interested in Ned's ELQ dealings. After their dinner together, Brenda told Jax that she was confident that Ned and Lois would work something out. Jax did not disagree with her.

Julia and Jerry were another story. They had avoided each other for the past few days. It was very strange not to hear their usual bantering, now there was only silence between them. The looks were there though. When either thought the other was not looking, the gazes appeared. Jane and Julia saw them and even Jax had to admit he had noticed them during Thanksgiving dinner. Jane and Brenda still hadn't decided the best way to address the issue. It was not going to be easy.

This afternoon was the dedication ceremony for the Stone Cates AIDS Wing. Today was also the second anniversary of Stone's death. The house was still quiet as everyone slept. Brenda had been dreaming for the past hour. She was reliving the moment when Sonny had told her that Stone had full blown AIDS, the moment that she had found out that Robin was HIV positive, the last time she had spoken to Stone and the day of his funeral. She wanted to wake up to make the memories and the pain stop but something was preventing her from opening her eyes.

Then she heard him. She heard his voice, she heard his laughter. She heard him reading to Robin. She heard the sound of her own laughter when she, Sonny and Robin had been together with Stone. Then she saw him. She saw him after an Eddie Maine concert helping with the merchandising. She saw him at the AIDS Ball reciting Shakespeare. She saw him with Robin. She saw him at Luke's. She saw him smiling. Brenda let the memories take over. She was content and felt totally at peace.

Then Brenda heard Stone's voice again. "They need you Brenda. They are suffering so. Help them ease their pain." The words kept echoing in her mind but she had no idea what they meant. Then she saw him again. It wasn't the same though. She didn't recognize the scene, it wasn't a memory. She saw bright sunshine and Stone's smiling face. She heard soothing music in the background. The room looked familiar but its exact location was not registering. Stone looked so happy, so serene.

Then Brenda saw her. Stone was standing over her and she was smiling as she looked up at him. It was the music from Veronica's music box. It was the nursery. It was Jillian.

Brenda's eyes flew open. She jumped out of bed and ran down the hall to the nursery. Jillian was lying awake in her cradle sucking on her hand. The sun was shining brightly through the nursery window, casting a spotlight appearance on Jillian's face. When Brenda looked into the cradle and Jillian saw her, the baby smiled. As tears fell from the corners of Brenda's eyes, she picked up Jillian.

Jax had awakened when Brenda catapulted from the bed. He entered the nursery and walked over to her. "Sweetie, are you all right?"

Tears were now rolling down Brenda's cheeks. "I saw him. I saw him with Jillian."

"Saw who?"

"Stone. He was watching over her."

Jax took Brenda in his arms. "I see."

"Jax, do you believe in angels?"

"Of course. I think we all have someone watching out for us."

"Do you remember what the fortune teller said about an outside force looking out for Jillian?"

"Yes."

"I think Stone is Jillian's guardian angel."

"She's very lucky then. I have no doubt that Stone will take extraordinary care of her. I know how much you loved him and how much he must have loved you. Now he will watch over your daughter."

"He looked so happy."

"Brenda, he came to you today for a reason. He wanted to help you through the day."

"I think you're right. I feel like he is with me."

"I am sorry I never knew him but something tells me that I am going to get to know him now."

They stood there in the middle of the nursery with the bright sunshine radiating around them. Stone looked down on them and smiled. He knew he was witnessing a true picture of love and happiness.

General Hospital -- 2:00pm

Almost all of Port Charles was in attendance at the dedication ceremony. Many of the patients from the hospital were also gathered for the ceremony. Sonny was again publicly thanked for the generous donation he had made the year before which had made this all possible. The wing was now fully operational. Alan introduced the medical staff administering the unit. Of course, the hospital board was also introduced and thanked for its assistance on the project.

A small plaque was given to Robin to commemorate the dedication. A large billboard size plaque showing Stone's name had been affixed to the entrance of the wing. Robin said a few words. Jason, Sonny and Mac kept a watchful eye on her but she remained strong and composed.

Once the ceremony was over, Brenda and Jax were speaking with Monica and Alan when Brenda saw Jimmy. He was holding the hand of a woman who Brenda presumed was his mother. In the other hand, he was clutching the kangaroo.

Brenda walked over to him with Jillian in her arms. Jerry had heard the story of Jimmy and when he saw the kangaroo he knew that this little boy must be him. Jerry stood around the corner within earshot as Brenda reached Jimmy.

"Hello Jimmy. How are you today?"

"Mommy, that's her. She asked me to take care of the kangaroo while Jillian was sleeping. That's Jillian."

"Hello, I am Brenda Jacks and as Jimmy told you, this is Jillian."

"Good afternoon, I am Susan Martin. She is beautiful."

"Thank you."

"Jimmy, I want you to thank Mrs. Jacks and Jillian and then give Jillian her kangaroo. It was very nice of her to share it with you."

Jerry walked around the corner. "Well, who do we have here? I bet your name is Jimmy."

"I am Jimmy. Who are you? You sound like that Crocodile man."

"I am Jerry Jacks, Jillian's uncle. I sound like the Crocodile man because I am from Australia which is where I found that kangaroo you have."

"You mean where real kangaroos live?"

"Yes, they are hopping all over the place."

"Have you ever touched one?"

"Of course. When I was your age I had two kangaroos as pets."

"Wow, you were so lucky."

"Since it seems like you really like kangaroos, I think you should keep that one. Jillian has plenty and I think she would like for you to have it."

"Really? I can keep it forever."

"If your mother says it is okay, yes. Then if you want, I will tell you all about my pet kangaroos."

"Mommy can I? Please."

"Okay, Jimmy, but I want you to thank Mrs. Jacks and Mr. Jacks and Jillian. You also have to get back to bed now."

"Thank you everyone. Jerry, can we go to my room so you can tell me your pet kangaroo stories."

Jerry took Jimmy's hand. "Sure, let's go."

"Good-bye Jillian and Mrs. Jacks. I'll take good care of the kangaroo, I promise."

"Good-bye Jimmy. Good-bye Mrs. Martin."

Julia took a deep breath as she stood down the hall. She had witnessed the entire scene. Great, Jerry Jacks was human. Why did she have to see it? Why did she have to feel joy when she saw Jimmy's face light up as Jerry spoke to him? Why did any of this matter? This was getting to be an impossible situation. Julia hated how she felt, she hated the signals her heart was giving her. Every day the signals were getting harder to ignore. She had to figure out a way to stop this madness.

The Bridge -- 8:00pm

Robin had made it through most of the day. She had been so strong and composed at the hospital. She did not want Jason to see her anguish because she did not want her feelings for Stone to cause any pain for Jason. Robin knew that it was still difficult at times for Jason to deal with her past. She also did not want to upset Sonny. Robin knew that Sonny was still grieving for Stone, Lily, the baby and even Brenda. She knew that the dedication of the AIDS wing had been difficult for him. Stone was the closest thing to a brother that he had.

Tonight, Robin needed someone for herself. Brenda was the natural choice. Brenda knew how much Robin and Stone loved each other. She knew what they had gone through together. She saw Robin's pain first hand. Brenda also knew how much Robin was suffering today. Brenda had called her at the Club after the dedication ceremony and asked her if she wanted to meet and Robin had jumped at the offer. They decided to meet on the bridge. Robin had convinced Sonny and Jason that she needed some time with Brenda and they had agreed to give her space.

Robin pulled into the parking lot down the hill by the bridge and Jax and Brenda were already there. Jax had insisted that he accompany Robin and Brenda. He was going to stay by the car where he could keep an eye on them but he would be far enough from them to give them the privacy they needed. They walked to the bridge. The air was chilly but it felt invigorating.

Robin sat on the stone wall while Brenda stood next to her. "What are you feeling now?"

"I don't even know. My emotions are all over the place. Grief, sadness, loss, regret and love for Stone; hope and pride for the AIDS wing; pain and empathy for you and Sonny and everyone else who loved Stone. Then there's Jason."

"What about Jason?"

"I just worry that he will never be able to fully understand what my feelings are about Stone and the AIDS wing. As hard as he tries, he can never really share it with me. He doesn't remember Stone at all and he has no memories of Stone and I together."

"I understand exactly what you are saying. I worry about Jax in the same way. You and Stone were such a big part of my life and Jax can't completely share it with me. It was Sonny and not Jax that I shared that experience with."

"Do you think it bothers him?"

"It must in some way. Of course Jax uses his best efforts to hide it from me. The only thing I can do is to try to share with Jax as much as I can about Stone. I have told Jax all about him. This morning we went through my photo album but of course a lot of my memories of Stone also include Sonny so that is also an issue."

"I never realized it but you are right. Jax and Jason are in similar situations. They also are both overly protective."

Brenda laughed. "You are joking. I can't believe that Jason agreed to you meeting me without him."

"He knew that Jax would be around. Of course if I am not back at the Club in an hour, I know he will be here."

"Enough about Jax and Jason, what about you?"

"Sometimes I miss Stone so much I don't think I can stand it. It just hits me sometimes. This week has been especially hard because of the anniversary and the dedication. I know he would not want me to be spending my time missing him but I just can't help it at times."

"Of course you can't. You loved him and he still is in your heart."

"I just wish sometimes I knew how he was."

"Robin, I have something to tell you but I don't quite know how to say it. I don't even fully understand it myself. I was waiting for the right time and I guess that the best time is now."

"What is it?"

"I had a dream this morning. Well, it actually started out as a replay of the time I had spent with Stone, both the good and bad times. I heard his voice and I heard him laugh. It gave me real peace for the first time about his death. But then something else happened."

"What?

"I heard his voice but I wasn't reliving a memory. I don't even understand what he was saying to me. It was something about helping those who are suffering. But then I saw him and he was in the nursery standing over Jillian's cradle. She was smiling at him and the sunshine was streaming through the window. I got out of bed and raced into the nursery where I found here awake and smiling with the sunshine streaming through the window."

"You saw him?"

"Yes, he looked so happy. When Jax and I were in New Orleans this fortune teller told me that there was an outside force protecting Jillian. Robin, I honestly believe it is Stone. I think he is her guardian angel. I know you probably think I am crazy."

"No, not at all. Sometimes I think he is standing next to me and I see him in my dreams. I thought I was imagining things but if you saw him, then I know I am not. Did he really look happy?"

"Yes, and he seemed completely at peace."

Robin began crying. "I know he is all right then. I am convinced of it now. Oh Brenda, thank you." Robin hugged Brenda. "I know he is looking down on us now."

"I think you're right. Jax told me that Stone came to me in my dreams today to help me get through the day. It worked."

"And you helped me through my day."

"I guess Stone had a grandiose plan for all of us."

Robin took a deep breath and smiled. "I guess he did. I feel so much better now. Peace is wonderful."

"It certainly is. I didn't even know what the word meant until I met Jax. Now, I don't know how I could ever live without it."

"I am so happy that you and Jax found each other. I am going to go find Jason and spend some time with him. I am going to send Jax over here, it's a beautiful star-filled night. I will talk to you before I leave tomorrow. I love you and I could not have gotten through this day without you."

"I love you too. Don't lose sight of what you have with Jason. He really loves you."

"I know. Good night."

Jax watched Robin pull away from the parking lot and then he walked over to the bridge. "She looked happy. I am glad you could help her."

"So am I. You were right about Stone helping me today. He helped me so I could help her."

"That's what people do for the people that they love. Stone loves her, he loves you and he loves Jillian."

Brenda looked up at the stars as Jax put his arms around her. She rested her head on his chest. "You know that as much as Stone helped me through today, I still could never have gotten through it without you. I love you so much."

"I love you too my darling, more than you will ever know."

"I could stay here forever, we just need Jillian here with us."

"She is here with us in our hearts always. Just like Stone."

"This was Stone and Robin's special place. I know he is up there looking down on us."

"I bet he is smiling then." Jax looked up at the sky. "Stone, if you are there, I need to thank you for watching over our little girl for us. She is the light of our lives and we will be indebted to you forever."

Stone looked down on them from above. "You are welcome, Jax. I will watch over her as if she were my own."

The Jacks Residence -- 10:00am

Brenda was in the nursery with Jillian when Julia walked in. "Look who's here. It's Aunt Julia. Can you say good morning?"

"Good morning Jillian. Don't you look pretty today, all dressed in pink."

"Why don't we let your Aunt Julia hold you. You should be sleeping but something tells me that is not in the cards this morning."

Brenda handed Julia the baby and Julia sat down in the rocking chair while Brenda folded Jillian's clothes and put them away in the dresser drawers. "How are the renovations coming on the loft?"

"Slowly but surely."

"There is no hurry. I am really going to miss you."

"I am going to miss you also. It is very hard to believe how much has happened in the past six months."

"I know. Six months ago you were in London and we hardly ever spoke, let alone saw each other. Now you are in Port Charles and we have seen each other almost every day for the past four months. And now we have Jillian."

"Brenda, she is so beautiful and you have taken such good care of her. I am very proud of you and I am so glad that I am a part of her life."

"We all made out in this deal."

"I see her and then I look at you and Jax and see how happy you are and I wonder about some of the choices I have made in my life."

"It's not too late, Julia. Happiness is never as far away as it seems. It may be looking you right in the face."

"I still don't know if I am cut out for the traditional marriage and family routine."

"So don't be traditional. I tend to believe that you would not be attracted to the traditional marriage and family kind of man."

Julia laughed. "You are probably right. He would have to put up with me and that would take a certain personality type."

"I just have one piece of advice for you. Don't close yourself off to opportunities. I almost did that Jax. If he hadn't been so determined, I would have lost him and then regretted it the rest of my life. Don't let that happen. Your partner could be right in front of you but you can't see him if you won't open your eyes."

"Okay, little sister, I hear you."

Jillian started fussing and Julia stood up with her.

"Julia, she likes the kangaroos to be put in front of her."

Julia walked over to the shelf that contained two dozen kangaroos. "Which one?"

"Any of them. Jerry has gone completely overboard with those things but she loves them."

"Is there anything he doesn't go overboard with?"

"He is eccentric but he has a huge heart. There is a very special man under that exterior if you have the patience to find it."

"A saint isn't that patient."

"Whether she is a saint or not, in the end she will be rewarded with a man well worth the effort."

"You should get into public relations and marketing if you can get someone to buy that story."

Brenda laughed. "No, I just can see what he has in his heart."

Julia sat in the rocker with one of the kangaroos and Jillian was content to smile at the animal.

"Julia, I have a couple phone calls to make and Jax is playing racquetball with Scott. Can you watch her for a few minutes?"

"Sure we will sit here and have a little aunt/niece chat."

"Great. I will be in Jax's office if you need me."

Meanwhile, Jerry and Jane were in the dining room drinking coffee and reading the newspaper.

"What are your plans, son? Should your father and I expect you back at the house anytime soon?"

"Not for a few weeks at least. I have decided to stay here and concentrate on the next phase of the Canadian Timber deal."

"I thought you were going to do that from the house."

"I was but I decided to take Jax up on his offer to coordinate everything through the Port Charles office. Scott is here and Jax is here so it will be easier."

Jane smiled to herself. "I guess you're right plus Julia is here so you can work directly with her on the business and public relations plans."

"Don't remind me. That is the one drawback to staying here."

"I am sure Jax will be pleased. You can spend time with the family. Jillian seems to have taken quite a shine to you."

"Roo is something else. I just never realized what it would be like to be an uncle."

"She is a very lucky little girl to have family and friends around her."

"It is still hard for me to believe that Jax is married with a wife and a daughter. Three years ago I thought it was an impossibility. Now I can't imagine him without Brenda and the baby. He is so happy."

"They all are, that's what makes it so special."

"There are times when I really envy him."

"There is nothing preventing you from finding the same happiness that Jax has."

"Mum, can you see me with a life like Jax has?"

"Yes, I can. Maybe not exactly the same but the same elements could be there."

"I doubt it."

"Don't foreclose the possibility, son. You will regret it later if you do. Love and happiness are essential. The perfect woman is out there waiting for you if you open your eyes."

"Whatever."

Brenda walked into the dining room as Jerry questioned her. "I guess Roo is sleeping?"

"As a matter of a fact, she is rebelling against her morning nap. She is in the nursery watching the kangaroos. I am sure she would like some company if you are free. I have to call Robin before she leaves for New Haven."

"I'll go up and entertain her."

"Thanks Jerry."

Jerry walked upstairs and heard Julia's voice in the nursery. "Aunt Julia is going to miss you when she moves but I promise I will come by and see you often. Mommy and Daddy can bring you to Aunt Julia's house as well. Maybe we will even take a few of your kangaroos and keep them there for you to play with when you visit."

Julia walked over to the shelf and showed Jillian each kangaroo. "Which ones should we take? This one? Or this one?"

Jerry walked into the room. "Do we have a kangaroo poacher in our presence?"

"Very funny."

"I thought so."

"Why do you have to be so difficult?"

"It's a gift."

"Can't you return it?"

"Very good. Ms. Barrett. You are on your toes this morning."

"Listen, about the other day."

"Julia, there is no need to say anything. Obviously it makes you uncomfortable so we won't discuss it."

"I never said it made me uncomfortable. You never said anything about it so I thought you couldn't handle it. I know you are ready to head out of town again so we can just drop it and forget it ever happened."

"As you wish but I have a news flash for you, I am staying."

"For how long?"

"Indefinitely. I am coordinating the second stage of the Canadian Timber deal from Port Charles."

Julia turned around to put Jillian into the cradle and to hide the uneasiness on her face from Jerry. Damn, now what was she going to do.

"I presume you don't have a problem with me staying in town?"

"Of course not. Why would I?"

"I saw how flushed you were after I kissed you the other day. I don't want you to get your hopes that it will be an everyday occurrence. I just lost my head for a moment."

Julia laughed out loud. "You must be joking That kiss meant nothing to me which is why I never even brought it up to you."

"Sure, whatever you say."

Julia had a glint in her eye as she walked toward Jerry. She grabbed him and gave him a kiss filled with searing passion. He was dumbfounded when she finally pulled away from the kiss. She looked at him and said, "I see how flushed your are but I just lost my head for a moment. Don't expect it to be a daily occurrence." She then walked out of the nursery.

Jerry laughed once she left the room. His lips still tingled from the kiss. This was going to be interesting.

As she headed toward Jax's office to tell Brenda that Jillian was asleep, Julia touched her fingers to her lips. She could still feel the fire from the kiss. What had she done? She knew that things were never going to be the same again.

The Gate House -- 3:00pm

Lois had called Brenda and asked her to meet her at the gate house. Brenda had left Jillian with Jax and headed over to see Lois. Brenda walked into the gate house and called out for Lois. Lois then came down the steps with her suitcase.

"Lois, what is it? Where are Ned and Brooke?"

"They are at the main house saying good-bye."

"So what is going on?"

"I wanted to let you know that Ned and I have come to some decisions."

"What are you waiting for? Tell me."

"Ned is going to drive us back to Bensonhurst in a little while and then next weekend Brooke and I are coming back to stay."

"Coming back as in moving back to Port Charles permanently?"

"Don't go ballistic on me yet. We are taking this one step at a time. I am moving back to the gate house and Ned is going to move into the main house. I need to see if I can work this out being this close to the Q's."

Brenda hugged Lois. "I am so glad that you two are trying to work this out. I am confident that some type of happy medium can be arranged."

"I can't make any promises right now. We will try it and see how it works out. We have spoken to the family and Ned has given them their orders. Lila did as well so we will see how long this lasts."

"As long as Tracy doesn't show up and wreck havoc, I think they will follow orders."

"You have more faith in them than I do."

"No, I have faith in you and Ned. The rest of the Quartermaines will have to fall in line or be pushed overboard."

"I like that. I may need to use that one day."

"Be my guest. You're happy, aren't you?"

"Yes, I am even though I am afraid to admit it."

"What happened to make you decide to come back?"

"Part of it is so Brooke can be closer to Ned and part of it is what I feel for him but the real clincher was seeing Robin and thinking about Stone. They had so little time to be happy together. You never know what is going to happen and it makes you realize just how precious time is."

"So Stone's presence is felt again"

"What?"

"I'll tell you about it later. I am just so happy for the three of you. I am happy for me too. I missed you so much and now Brooke and Jillian can grow up together."

"Brenda, don't jump the gun here."

"I know, I am getting ahead of myself. Suffice it to say that I am happy for all of us. I can't wait to tell Jax."

"Okay. Now I have to finish packing so that I can repack next week. I think I am going to need a moving van for all of Brooke's stuff."

"We'll come over and help you next weekend. Remember my offer still stands to take care of Brooke should you and Ned ever need a night to yourselves."

"Brenda Barrett Jacks, you are impossible."

"No, I am just an optimist."

Lois and Brenda hugged again before Brenda headed back to the house and Lois finished packing up. L&B, as in Lois and Brenda, were going to be together again. Look out Port Charles.

The Jacks Residence -- 11:00pm

Jax had just checked on Jillian in the nursery. She was sound asleep. Brenda was waiting for Jax to join her in the bathtub. She was relaxing in the warm water when he entered the bathroom. He took of his bathrobe and stepped into the tub. He sat behind Brenda and put his arms around her as she leaned back against him.

"This has been some weekend."

"I would say that is an understatement."

"Why? I mean we only had Thanksgiving, a visit from Stone, the AIDS wing dedication, Lois deciding to return to Port Charles, your parents here, and whatever is going on between Jerry and Julia."

Jax laughed. "You're right. I guess that is pretty typical around here."

"Jax, thank you."

"For what, sweetie?"

"For listening to me, understanding me, helping me with Robin and Stone, tolerating my euphoria about Lois and for loving me. Thank you for everything you are and everything you give to me."

"Where is all this coming from?"

"Lois reminded me that the best lesson that Stone gave us was that we need to appreciate the people we love and cherish every moment we have with them."

"Stone certainly seems to have touched many people's lives.

They say that the true test of the success of one's life is the impact that the person has on the lives of others. If that is the case, then Stone had a very successful life even in the short time he was here."

"He did. He left quite an impression on everyone. He still is impacting us now with the AIDS wing. His memory will live on in all of us."

"I'm glad for you and Robin and all those who loved him."

Brenda turned around to face Jax. "Right now I only want to concentrate on the man I love."

"I think I can handle that."

"Believe me, you can." Brenda wrapped her arms around Jax's neck and kissed him. The kiss sent waves of electrical current through both of them. Jax carefully stood up and lifted Brenda into his arms. He carried her into the bedroom where he gently lowered her onto the bed. He eased himself on top of her as the fires of their passions overtook them. Their bodies mirrored their hearts and souls as they united to become one.

Once their hungers had been satisfied, they held each other as the night progressed. They reveled in the power of their love and the presence of their intertwined hearts and souls.
