General Hospital -- 8:00am
Images flashed through Jerry's mind. The sound of the rain and the hail bouncing off the windshield echoed in his head. Then the memories of the curve of the road and the headlights of the oncoming truck raced through his mind. Jerry trembled and felt a wave of pain jab through his chest. His head was throbbing and images of his family came to him. They had been with him and she also was there. He tried to open his eyes but exhaustion overwhelmed him. Jerry moved his hand and became aware of the feel of soft skin against it. He forced open his eyes and she was there beside him.
He had not been dreaming. Julia was there. She was sleeping in a chair by the bed with her hand in his. It had been real. Jerry stroked his thumb along her hand. Julia stirred and then she opened her eyes. She smiled as his blue eyes gazed at her.
Julia sat up in the chair. "Good morning."
Jerry's voice was no more than a whisper. "Hello."
Julia slowly exhaled. "You had us all scared to death."
Jerry smirked. "If I knew I would get all this attention, I would have landed in the hospital weeks ago."
"Very funny."
Jerry's voice took a serious tone. "It worked. You're here."
Julia sighed. "Yes, I'm here."
"How long was I out?"
Julia cleared her throat. "Over forty-eight hours. It's Friday morning. Your whole family was here the entire time. Jax forced Brenda to go home for a few hours to see Jillian but that was it."
"And you stayed here again last night?"
Julia smiled. "I drew the short straw."
Jerry shook his head. "Now who is trying to be funny? Julia, we need to talk."
"Shh. You need to concentrate on getting well right now. Everything else can be addressed later."
A look of concern flashed through his eyes. "But you will be here and we will talk about it?"
Julia nodded. "I am not going anywhere."
Jerry smiled. Tony Jones then walked into the intensive care unit. "I see we are awake. How do you feel?"
Jerry slowly turned his head toward Tony. "Like I have been run over by a truck."
Tony chuckled. "Well, I guess that is appropriate."
"When can I get out of this jail?"
Julia rolled her eyes and Tony shook his head. "You mother warned me about your impatience and intolerance. Mr. Jacks, you are a long way from getting out of here. The first priority is to get you out of intensive care. Hopefully that will happen tomorrow."
Jerry grimaced. "You have got to be kidding."
Tony sighed. "You sustained a very serious head injury. You only regained consciousness ten hours ago. You have other injuries that now need to be attended to. You need your rest and we need to continue to monitor your condition."
"This is ridiculous." Jerry started to try to sit up and then screamed in pain as he fell back against the pillows."
Julia frowned and tucked the covers back around Jerry. "Now do you understand why you are in the hospital, you idiot? Stop being a stubborn jackass and do as you are told."
Tony smiled. "Well, it looks like things are in control here now."
Julia looked at Tony. "Once he is out of intensive care, do you have an estimate on how long he will be here?"
"It is dependent on a variety of factors but my guess is about a week."
Jerry closed his eyes. "A week? Please tell me I am hearing things. If not, you may as well put me in a box now."
Julia ignored Jerry. "Thank you Dr. Jones. His family and I will see to it that he cooperates fully with your orders.
Tony smiled again. "I have no doubt about that." He then looked at Jerry. "I will be back this afternoon to check on you. Good-bye."
Tony walked out of intensive care and Julia glared at Jerry. "Listen up, mister, you are going to become a model patient. The more you fight this, the longer you will be here."
"This is just great. I may as well be a prisoner."
Julia ignored his antics. "Your parents will be here shortly and then I am going home for awhile. Is there anything you need?"
"Arsenic."
Julia let out an exasperated sigh. "Knock it off. You are going to behave yourself or I am going to tie you to that bed myself."
Jerry raised his right eyebrow. "How kinky. I would not have predicted that you were into that, Ms. Barrett. I guess appearances are deceiving. This is going to be more fun than I imagined."
"That is enough. Once more remark like that and I will convince the nurse that you are having trouble breathing again and you will be wearing that oxygen mask again."
Jerry rolled his eyes. "I know that this is going to be the week from hell. First, I will be a prisoner here and then you and the rest of my family will be ganging up on me."
Julia smiled. "I am so glad you have finally figured things out. Now go back to sleep."
Julia sat back down on the chair and Jerry scowled. This feeling of helplessness was awful. The worst part was that he had this horrible feeling that things were going to get a lot worse before they got any better. This was going to be the longest week of his life.
The Jacks Residence -- Noon
The curtains were tightly drawn and the room was completely silent. Jax rolled over and reached to the other side of the bed. His eyes opened when his hands met cold sheets rather than the warmth and softness of Brenda's body. Brenda's side of the bed was empty and Jax rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He turned his head and caught sight of the clock radio. It was a few minutes after twelve.
He felt as if he had been drugged. Jax muttered to himself. "12:00. Half the day is over and I still feel exhausted."
Jax sunk back into his pillow and then he heard the door to the master suite quietly open. He opened his eyes and saw Brenda tiptoeing toward the bedroom area of the suite.
Jax sat up. "Hey."
Brenda stopped in mid stride and put her hands on her hips. "You should still be asleep."
"It's after twelve o'clock. I have been asleep for almost eleven hours."
"You have not slept in three days so you are still operating at a serious deficit."
"How is Jerry?"
Brenda walked over to the bed and sat down next to Jax. "He is complaining so he must be feeling better. Tony is hoping to transfer him out of ICU tomorrow if he continues to progress. Julia called earlier and then you parents have called twice since they went to GH. The doctors are running tests now."
Jax ran his hand through his hair. "I can't believe I did not wake up when the phone rang."
"I turned the ringer off this morning. I wanted you to sleep."
Jax looked at the tightly drawn drapes on the French door and windows. The shutters on the skylight had also been closed. "I guess this is why this place look like a dungeon."
"Yes. I was just coming in here to get the clothes for the dry cleaner. I am going to get them and then you are going to go back to sleep for a few hours. We will see Jerry this evening."
"Brenda, I have work to do."
"I talked to Addie and everything is covered between Scott and Andrew. You need to get some rest. Work can wait until Monday."
"I would also like to see my daughter."
"I just put her down for a nap so that is no excuse. Just close your eyes and go back to sleep. The last thing we need is for you to collapse."
"You have an answer for everything, don't you?"
Brenda nodded. "Yes, and you realized that within the first month we knew each other."
"I don't think I can sleep anymore."
"Yes, you can. Just close your eyes."
Jax took her hand. "Why don't you lie down with me? I am sure I could fall back to sleep then."
"Nice try, mister, but I don't think so."
Jax's eyes sparkled at her. "Why not? I thought you wanted me to go back to sleep. You know how hard it is for me to fall asleep without you."
Brenda rolled her eyes. "Fine, but I am coming to bed only so that you can go to sleep. Don't get any other ideas."
"Fine." Jax held up the covers as Brenda took of her shoes. Jax then looked at her as she climbed into bed. "Aren't you going to get undressed?"
Brenda got under the covers and edged her back closer to him. "No. I told you that you need rest. Somehow I think taking off my clothes would be counter productive."
Jax laughed as he put his arms around Brenda's waist and rested his chin on her shoulder. He breathed in the vanilla scent from her hair and smiled. He then began to nuzzle her neck as one of his hands moved to gently cup her right breast.
"Jax, I mean it. You need to sleep."
Jax smiled into her neck. "You know this is how I always fall asleep." It was the truth. His hands would instinctively reach for her breasts as he held her. His fingers would gently knead and stroke them. They were so full and so firm. They were perfect.
Brenda knew he was right but his touch was making her body tremble and her heart flutter. Most of the time, Jax's customary caressing occurred after their lovemaking so her passions had been fulfilled. They hadn't made love in almost a week and the feel of his hands and lips on her skin was almost irresistible.
Brenda rolled over so that she was facing him. She propped herself up on her elbow. "Today, you are going to have to fall asleep without your normal routine."
"You are such an ogre, Mrs. Jacks."
"Sorry, but I said sleep. The other benefits of being in this bed together will have to wait. Shut your eyes."
Jax pouted. "I can't get to sleep."
Brenda sighed. "Fine, then just lie there and stay awake." She arranged his pillows and took one of his hands in hers. With her other hand, Brenda gently caressed his cheek. She then began softly singing.
Stay awake, don't rest your head.
Don't lie down upon your bed.
While the moon drifts in the skies,
Stay awake, don't close your eyes.
Brenda continued to sing as she watched Jax's eyes flutter and heard his breathing deepen.
Though the world is fast asleep,
Though your pillow's soft and deep,
You're not sleepy as you seem,
Stay awake, don't nod and dream.
Stay awake, don't nod and dream.
As she finished, Jax had finally drifted off to sleep. Brenda covered him with the comforter. "Sweet dreams darling."
Brenda slipped out of bed and silently picked up her shoes and the dry cleaning and tiptoed out of the room. She quietly closed the door and smiled. She had found another similarity between Jax and Jillian, they both fell asleep to the same lullaby.
General Hospital -- 7:00pm
Jane and John spent a good portion of the day at the hospital and then had gone back to the house to stay with Jillian so that Jax and Brenda could visit Jerry this evening.
As Jax and Brenda came off the elevator, Julia walked out of the intensive care unit.
Jax put his arm around Julia. "How is he?"
"He has been sleeping most of the day but he is awake now. He seems to be in more pain this evening so I came out to check with Amy about his medication schedule."
Brenda hugged Julia. "Did you get any rest?"
"Yes, I went home this morning after Jane and John arrived."
Jax smiled. "Brenda seems to be obsessed about other people's sleeping patterns today."
Brenda elbowed Jax. "Excuse me if I am concerned about the people that I love."
Jax put his arm around Brenda and kissed her cheek. "I am just teasing you, baby. I love the way you care about the people close to you."
Brenda smiled at Jax and then looked at Julia and handed her a bag. "We will go in to see Jerry. I know how tiring it is to eat cafeteria food so Jose fixed you some dinner. I want you to go into the lounge and eat."
"Thanks Brenda, maybe later."
"Not later, now. We will be with Jerry. You have to take care of yourself as well."
Jax grinned at Julia. "I would do as she says. It is a hopeless battle."
Brenda rolled her eyes and Julia laughed. "Okay, you win. After I check with Amy, I will eat."
Brenda smiled. "Good. We will keep Jerry entertained."
Jax and Brenda walked into ICU and Jerry opened his eyes. "Oh, I see my baby brother has decided to grace me with his presence. Checking on the inheritance?"
"Well, Mum offered to look after Jillian tonight so Brenda and I could have dinner at The Outback. Since GH is just down the street from there, Brenda insisted we make an appearance. I guess she wants to remain in the Will. Hello. You look like hell. Good-bye."
Brenda swatted Jax's arm. "Jax, stop it."
Jerry swallowed hard to catch his breath. "He is just jealous, Brenda. If he was in this bed, no one would be here but you. And you would only be here because you felt a sense of obligation as his wife. I still want to know what mental illness you were suffering from when you agreed to marry him. And for God's sake, you married him twice."
Jax shook his head. "Jealous of you? You must have sustained brain damage with that head injury. Jerry, you really have a lot to look forward to these days. You have lost your looks, your mind and your hair. Add those things to the fact that you are old, it is over for you."
"I am not losing my hair. These vultures here get their kicks out of vindictive barbering. I am considering suing."
Brenda sat down on the bed next to Jerry. "It gives you a very distinctive look. Many women find that very appealing."
Jax rolled his eyes and Jerry grinned. "You think so?"
Brenda nodded. "Yes, be prepared to have to fight off numerous women."
Jax folded his arms in front of him. "Only if you are visiting the local sanitarium."
Jerry smiled. "Still envious, baby brother? Green is not your color."
Jax laughed. "In your dreams."
Jerry rolled his eyes. "You must really be nuts if you think I dream about you."
Brenda cleared her throat. "Okay, boys, recess is over."
Jerry sighed. "You are so mean."
Jax nodded. "You never let us have any fun."
Brenda raised her eyebrows. "Too bad." She then took Jerry's hand. "How are you feeling?"
"I have had better days. I also feel as if I have been given a jail sentence in this place."
Brenda smiled. "I remember after I had my accident two years ago how terrible it was to be in the hospital." She then looked at Jax. "It was made more bearable when a certain someone decided to make my hospital room the botanical gardens by sending me flowers from the four corners of the world."
Jerry rolled his eyes. "I can't imagine who that was. Some people take zealousness to the extreme. Either that or will do anything to get a woman into their bed."
Brenda looked down at Jerry. "That is enough from you. My sympathy for you only goes so far."
Jerry cleared his throat. "Sorry."
Brenda smiled. "Once you get into a regular room, we will be sure you have some flowers to brighten up your spirits. Jillian's tulip garden is in full bloom and I know she won't mind sharing."
Jax chuckled. "Brenda must really feel pity you and that skid mark on your head, Jerry. She does not share those tulips with most people."
Jerry shrugged. "Face it, she loves me. I told you she was going to realize she chose the wrong Jacks brother."
Julia walked into the ICU and heard Jerry's remark. "Someone must be over medicated."
Jax grinned. "I think he has sustained one too many bumps on that hard head of his."
Brenda nodded. "I think he is losing his mind."
Jerry shifted in bed. "You three are some comfort. I get more support from Nurse Ratchet than this group."
Jax clapped his hands together. "Good, we have done our job for the day then."
Jerry rolled his eyes while everyone else laughed. Only his family would become comedians at the expense of a patient in the intensive care unit. Whatever happened to the basics of sympathy and compassion? Obviously his family chose to ignore them.

The Jacks Residence -- 7:30am
The past ten days had flown by for everyone except Jerry. His stint as a patient at General Hospital had been a nightmare. He had driven every nurse crazy while Julia and Jane wanted to clobber him for his impatience and surly mood. He had developed an infection that had extended his stay a few days but he was finally being released today. John and Jane had remained in Port Charles during Jerry's hospital stay. They would be returning to Alaska tomorrow. Today was Mother's Day and Jerry's release was a perfect way to celebrate the occasion. Today was also very special for Brenda as it was her very first Mother's Day.
Jax was propped up on his elbow in bed as he watched Brenda. She was smiling and mumbling in her sleep. Whatever she was dreaming about was making her happy. She turned on her side so that she was now facing him. A few moments later, Brenda opened her eyes.
Jax smiled and brushed a loose strand of hair from her face. "Good morning and Happy Mother's Day."
Brenda beamed. "Thank you and good morning to you."
Jax leaned down and kissed her softly on the lips. "What were you dreaming about?"
Brenda smiled as she sighed. "The day Jillian was born. It was the greatest day of my life and it was all because of you."
Jax raised one eyebrow and grinned. "You don't have to thank me for her conception. Believe me, it was my pleasure."
Brenda laughed. "You know I don't mean that. I am talking about you delivering her into this world safely."
Jax pulled Brenda into his arms. "Sweetie, you delivered her. I was just there as a spectator."
"I could not have done it without you. I will never forget that moment for the rest of my life. I don't think I ever loved you more than at that moment."
Jax kissed the top of her head. "I feel the same way. Watching you give birth to our little girl was a miracle."
At that moment, Jillian's cooing and singing could be heard through the baby monitor.
Jax laughed. "Speaking of our little miracle, she really has become a little songbird."
Brenda smiled. "Those are her morning scales and vocal exercises. The arias don't come until the evening."
Jax got up from the bed. "I'll go get the little soprano."
Brenda listened on the baby monitor as Jax entered the nursery. She heard Jillian's excited and breathless cooing and knew that was the sign that the baby had seen Jax come into the room. Brenda then heard Jax's voice on the monitor as he pick up Jillian. "Good morning princess. How is Daddy's little girl?" Brenda heard Jax kiss the baby before he changed her. Jillian sang as Jax changed her and Brenda heard him talking to the baby again. "Mommy and Daddy love their little girl so much. Today is a special day for Mommy and we are going to go see her now. We will take your blanket. Are you going to sing for Mommy?"
Brenda quickly brushed the tears from her cheeks and took a deep breath. She then looked up through the skylight at the blue sky and whispered, "Thank you God for giving him to us."
Jax walked into the bedroom and Jillian started babbling when she saw Brenda. Brenda reached her arms out to Jillian and the baby extended her arms toward Brenda as Brenda took Jillian in her arms. "Good morning sweetheart. Mommy loves you."
Jax slid into bed next to Brenda and she raised Jillian in the air over her head. Jillian laughed as Brenda lifted her up and down in the air. Jax face was beaming as much as Brenda's was as they saw Jillian's bright eyes and heard her laughter. It was one of those little moments that stays in your heart forever.
Jax showered and dressed and then took Jillian as Brenda got into the shower. A few minutes later, Brenda stepped out of the shower and quickly dressed so they could join Jane and John for breakfast downstairs.
Brenda came out of the bathroom. "Are we ready for breakfast with Grandma? We have a present for her this morning."
Jax smiled. "Jillian thinks her mommy should get her present first."
Brenda folded her hands together. "Mommy is getting a present?"
Jax shook his head. "This coming from the woman that thinks presents should be given on every holiday including Arbor Day and Earth Day."
Brenda rolled her eyes. "I think you are slightly exaggerating that."
Jax chuckled. "I don't think so but today is definitely a gift holiday. Jillian had to honor you for being the most wonderful mother in the world."
Brenda laughed. "Well, if she felt that she had to get me a gift, I will accept it graciously so I don't hurt her feelings."
Jax shook his head at her again and smiled. "I know what a sacrifice that will be for you but I know that you are just thinking about Jillian's feelings."
Brenda grinned. "Of course."
Jax grinned. "Well, if you go out onto the balcony, you will find your gift."
Brenda opened the french doors and walked out onto the balcony. There was nothing there but the chairs and table which were always there.
Jax smiled. "Walk further onto the balcony and tell me what you see."
Brenda shook her head. Was this one of Jax's scavenger hunt gifts? She looked below to the left and saw the tulip gardens in bloom and the tennis courts off in the distance. Then she looked below and saw the terrace and the blooming azaleas. When she looked straight ahead, she saw the pool area set up for the start of the swimming season. Then she walked to the right side of the balcony and she saw it.
She stood staring out over the grounds for a few moments before she finally turned around to face Jillian. She opened her mouth and the words came at break neck speed.
"Jax, it's beautiful. I can't believe it. How did you do this? Can we go see it?"
Jax nodded. He was still amazed at times at how fast she spoke when she was excited. Brenda grabbed his hand and they raced down the stairs into the living room to exit through the terrace doors. Once they were outside, Brenda hurried ahead of Jax and the baby. Jax could not help grinning. Her exuberance was overwhelming. His heart was doing flip-flops as he watched her.
Brenda reached the spectacle and took a deep breath. It was like a crystal palace. The gazebo was in the shape of an octagon and all of its sides were glass. There were lights running along the outside of the palace so that the glass would sparkle in the darkness of the night. She walked around the structure and then opened the french doors and entered the gazebo. There were mahogany benches running along all of the eight sides and the ceiling was in the shape of a dome. The dome was also glass but there were hearts made from red stained glass in each side of the dome. The sun shining through the red heart designs was beautiful. Besides the dome, the french doors were the only glass which was not perfectly clear. Both glass doors contained heart designs made from red stained glass to match the dome and inside each heart, today's date was etched. The gazebo sat on the highest point of the property amidst the gardens, fountains and groves of trees. The Port Charles River could be seen as well. The view was magnificent from all sides.
Jax and Jillian walked into the gazebo and Brenda ran over to Jax and hugged him. "It's just like the summer house in 'The Sound of Music.' I can't believe you did this. I feel like Maria von Trapp and that I should start singing or Liesl and I should start dancing."
Brenda was twirling around the gazebo and Jax found himself caught up in her euphoria. "If you want to sing, then sing. If you want to dance, then dance. This is yours to enjoy."
"It is so perfect. I love the etchings of the heart designs on the doors. It is even more beautiful than the one in the movie. I never thought there would be anything that beautiful but this surpasses it. I can't believe you knew how much I loved the one in the movie."
Jax smiled and took her hand and they sat on the bench. "Believe me, I know how much you love everything about 'The Sound of Music.' Brenda, you know every line of dialogue from the entire movie. You have a back-up copy in case something happens to the original. Jillian will probably be singing 'Do Re Mi' before she is two. I thought you would enjoy a crystal palace modeled after the one in the movie."
Brenda hugged Jax again. "It is so beautiful. It is in the perfect spot. You can see the pear tree grove and the fountains. The dogwoods are blooming and all the spring gardens are in full blossom. The Japanese cheery blossoms will be flowering within a week. I could spend hours every day out here. It will even be beautiful in the rain."
Jax gazed at Brenda. "You mean so that you and I can be Liesl and Rolfe and dance as the rain beats down on the glass."
Brenda sighed contentedly. "Exactly."
Jax got up from the bench and took the blanket off his shoulder and spread it out in the middle of the tiled floor of the gazebo. He sat Jillian down in the center of the blanket and then walked over to Brenda.
"I know it is not raining, but would you care to dance, Liesl?"
Brenda began to giggle and then stood up and curtsied. "It would be an honor, Rolfe."
Jax lifted Brenda onto the bench and held onto her left hand. They then recreated the scene from 'The Sound of Music' as Brenda gracefully skipped and jumped along the benches before leaping into Jax's arms. He twirled her around the center of the gazebo and she laughed with such sheer joy that Jax's heart sang. When they finally stopped, she was in his arms and their eyes never left each other. The spell was broken as they heard Jillian's laughter. She was laughing and clapping her hands together.
Jax laughed as he picked up Jillian and the blanket from the floor. "Even with children this age, your talent is appreciated, Mrs. Jacks."
Brenda twirled around the gazebo again and then took Jax's hand and they sat back on the bench. "I can't tell you how much this means to me."
Jax grinned and looked Jillian. "I think your gift to Mommy is a resounding success."
Brenda took the baby and kissed her. She then turned to Jax. "I can't think of a more perfect gift in the world besides the two of you. I love you both so much."
Brenda leaned her head against Jax's shoulder and Jax put his arm around her. "We love you too. Happy Mother's Day."
General Hospital -- Noon
Jerry grimaced as he slowly rose from sitting on the bed. He began to mutter to himself. "I am not waiting around here another minute. These people are dictators around here."
Jerry fumbled with the buttons on his shirt. Between his broken ribs, fractured wrist and numerous bruises, Jerry was not have the easiest time getting dressed.
Julia walked into Jerry's room and saw him standing up beside the bed. "What are you doing up? Do you know what would have happened if you fell? You would be right back in that bed again."
Jerry scowled. "Pipe down woman. I have enough of a headache already."
Julia let out an exasperated sigh. "I can't leave you for two minutes. You can barely stand up, sit down."
Jerry spoke in a defiant tone. "I am not a child."
Julia eased Jerry back so that he was sitting on the bed. "That is debatable. When are you going to learn to be patient?"
"Never so forget trying to teach me to value that ridiculous attribute."
Julia pushed his hand away and began buttoning up his shirt. "Look how exhausted you are just from standing up. When are you going to acknowledge that you are still recovering?"
"I have two good legs and two god feet so I stood up. I need to get the hell out of here before I lose my bloomin' mind."
"Just sit there and wait, mister. Regardless of what you say or think, you will learn that patience is a virtue. Good things come to those who wait."
"I know what I want. When I see it, I take it. What is the point of waiting for it? I want to get the hell out of here so why should I sit here?"
Jane walked into the room. "Because I said so. Jeremiah, what problems are you causing now?"
Julia laughed at the look of defeat on Jerry's face. "His impatient streak is showing."
Jane shook her head. "He has been impatient from the day he was born."
An orderly then pushed a wheelchair into the room. "Mr. Jacks, you have been discharged by Dr. Jones so I am ready to escort you downstairs."
Jerry stood up. "I can walk, thank you."
The orderly sighed. "It is hospital policy, sir."
"I paid for the quote, unquote privilege of staying at your prison, I can make my getaway on my own two feet."
Julia walked over to him. "Sit down, Jerry." She folded her arms in front of her. "Now Jeremiah. Otherwise, I am going to make arrangements for Nurse Madison to become your home health nurse for the next few weeks."
"Nurse Ratchet, you would not dare."
Julia glared at him. "Try me."
Jerry let out a groan and finally sat down. Julia smiled. "That is a good boy. Jax even sent the limo for you to rise home in. Do you want a lollipop?"
Jerry looked up to the orderly. "Get me out of here."
Jane spoke up. "His father is waiting with the car at the main entrance."
The orderly pushed the wheelchair toward the elevator and Julia and Jane grabbed the last two baskets of flowers. Jane put her hand on Julia's shoulder as they walked out of the room.
"Dear, I am very proud of you. You handle my son like a pro. I am not going to worry about you at all. You are just what he needs."
"Thanks Jane. Now I just have to figure out how to keep my sanity in the process."
"You will learn, dear. You have a whole lifetime ahead of you to figure it out."
Jane and Julia walked to the elevator and Julia waved at Jerry and grinned. He rolled his eyes and Jane and Julia laughed. "Great," Jerry thought, "This is all I need. Julia taking pointers from Lady Jane. My life is going to be a nightmare."
The Jacks Residence -- 7:30pm
Jerry had gotten home and slowly made his way up the stairs to his room. He had slept most of the afternoon as Jane and Julia took turns checking on him. Julia was taking up Brenda's offer to spend the week at the house to be near Jerry. Jane and John were leaving in the morning and tonight everyone was enjoying a delicious Mother's Day dinner. Jerry had felt well enough to venture downstairs for dinner even though it had taken him ten minutes to get down the stairs.
Jillian was sitting in her high chair at the head of the table. Brenda and Jax were sitting on either side of the baby while Jerry and Jane sat on Brenda's side of the table and Julia and John sat on Jax's side. Jax made toasts to Jane and Brenda as dinner began.
Jane smiled. "Thank you so much, Jax. This is the perfect Mother's Day. Jerry is home and has someone special in his life and Jax, you and Brenda have started your own family with our adorable little Jillian here."
At the sound of her name, Jillian started singing and banging her toy on the tray of the high chair. Everyone immediately laughed. Jerry immediately regretted it as the pain shot through his rib cage.
John clapped his hands together. "My, oh my, she likes to be the center of attention, doesn't she?"
Jerry looked up. "She is just like her father."
Jax rolled his eyes. "Like you are one to talk. Who is the one that brought home the harem for Mum's birthday party?"
Jerry looked at Jax. "That was strictly to entertain the guests. Who is the one that decided to go off by himself on a walk-about when he was ten years old?"
Jax shook his head. "That was prove to myself that I could face a challenge. What about the time you sent the strippers to Uncle Joe in the nursing home?"
Julia and Brenda sat there shaking their heads at the banter between the two brothers. Jane rolled her eyes and ignored them while John enjoyed every moment of the ribbing.
Jerry sighed. "That was a gift to Uncle Joe. What about the time you rented out the circus and sent it to Molly English's house?"
Jax folded his arms. "That was to show her what she was missing by turning down a date with me. Who is the one who mooned the crown at his high school graduation?"
Jerry was silent and Jax clapped his hands together. "I think we have a winner here."
Everyone laughed and Jillian started clapping her hands together.
Jax grinned. "Even your goddaughter agrees, Mr. Attention Craver."
Jerry looked at Jillian. "Roo, see how many more kangaroos I give you."
Jillian started babbling and threw her toy in Jerry's direction, barely missing his head.
Jerry could not stop himself from laughing. "Defiant little one, aren't you?"
Jax lifted Jillian out of the high chair. "Defiance has nothing to do with it. She just has great taste. Now we just have to work on her aim."
Jerry shook his head. "With this type of welcome home, I may as well be back with Nurse Ratchet."
Jax grinned. "Glad you know where we stand."
Jerry rolled his eyes as everyone laughed. It was just a typical meal around the Jacks dinner table.
Two hours later, Jillian was asleep and Julia had forced Jerry to turn in for the evening. Jane and John had also bid good night to everyone so that they could finish preparing for their return trip to Alaska tomorrow morning.
Brenda stood in the den and looked out the window at the grounds. The crystal palace was illuminated and it was if it were sparkling in the moonlight. Brenda hugged herself and beamed as she remembered the dance this morning in the gazebo. She turned away from the window and walked around the perimeter of the den. When she came to the bookcase, Brenda smiled and reached down to the middle shelf. She picked it up and then moved her hand back and forth so that the gold shimmered in the light.
Brenda remembered back to the day that she had received the delivery from Poole & Poole, the Auction House. The images from that day were so clear.
Her eyes had been dancing when she looked at him. "Did you bid on something for me?"
Jax had given her a devilish grin. "Maybe."
She had coyly smiled at him. "Is it rare?"
Jax had nodded. "One of a kind."
She had seductively asked, "Expensive?"
Jax had flashed her a killer smile. "Priceless."
Brenda smiled as she remembered opening up the box to find the lamp. She laughed to herself as she recalled how she thought the contents of the package had been a mistake but Jax had told her otherwise. He told her it was a magic lamp guaranteed to grant her a wish. Brenda rubbed the lamp just as she had that day and remembered how Jax had convinced her to tell him her wish.
Brenda sat on the couch and her memories took her back to that day again. It was as if it were yesterday. "I wish for something that I will have forever but never hold; it is as bright as the sun and as pale as the moon; and it vanishes quickly but is never gone."
Jax had been stumped and his determination to figure out the wish had been absolutely adorable. Brenda's grinned as she flashed back to the brightness in his eyes and the expression on his face as he held the door open for her and told her they were off to find her wish. Robin had finally clued him into the meaning behind Brenda's words. The poetic wish was from a fairy tale and Brenda's wish was for a day with her prince.
Brenda closed her eyes and hugged the lamp to her chest. She laid down on the couch and her emotions overwhelmed her. Some days her heart was so full that her feelings bubbled over and she had no control over them. Today was definitely one of those days. She had Jax and Jillian and a real family. She had a home filled with love and happiness. Jerry was recovering and Julia was finally ready to give herself a chance at happiness. What more could anyone ever wish for?
Jax walked into the den and smiled as he saw Brenda on the couch clutching the lamp as tears streamed down her face. He loved the way Brenda was so free with expressing her emotions. She was completely candid in letting people know how she felt. It was one of her most appealing characteristics.
Jax walked into the room and stood before her. "Tarnishing the lamp again with your tears?"
Brenda opened her eyes. "It's my lamp, remember? You gave it me as a gift."
Jax lifted her legs up and sat down beside her. He then lowered her legs so that they stretched across his lap. "Are you okay?"
Brenda wiped away her tears. "Yes, I was just reminiscing."
Jax smiled and covered her hand with his. "It was one of the best days of us ever."
Brenda sat up and moved closer to him. "I know. I was just thinking that this lamp is even more magical than I first realized."
Jax took his thumb and gently brushed away a few stray tears from Brenda's face. "Why is that?"
Brenda brought Jax's hand to her lips and kissed it. "I wished for a day with my prince, from sunrise to sunrise, but instead I was granted a lifetime."
Jax beamed. "It's even more magical than that because it not only granted your wish but gave me mine too."
They slowly moved toward each other and their lips met in a long, lingering kiss. Their hearts began fluttering and their love overwhelmed them. As always, it was pure magic.

The Jacks Residence -- 8:00am
Julia lightly knocked on Jerry's door. She heard his voice and opened the door.
"What are you doing out of bed?"
Jerry turned around and gave Julia a look of confusion. "Excuse me?"
"Why aren't you still in bed and why are you pulling that suit out of the closet as if you are going to the office?"
"Because that is where I am going."
Julia put her hands on her hips. "No, you most certainly are not."
Jerry shook his head. "You are not going to tell me what to do. I have been away from the office for over two weeks and I have things to do."
"You are not going anywhere. You can barely walk down the stairs. How do you think you are going to get to the office and function?"
"You know, I survived plenty of years without you, Julia, so don't think you are going to control my every move just because I happen to have the misfortune of being in love with you."
Julia folded her arms in front of her. "You are lucky it is only misfortune. I am cursed now that I am in love with you."
"Nice try. I am going."
"It is not a try, it is a triumph. You are staying."
Jerry glared at her. "Going."
Julia walked closer to him. "Staying."
"Julia, I am not in the mood to argue with you."
"Fine, then don't. Whatever you do, you are not leaving the house. If you even try, I will have Nurse Ratchet here before you can even get down the stairs. I am not kidding. If you don't believe me, then just try me."
Jerry was gritting his teeth. "You are the most insufferable woman I have ever met."
Julia smiled. "Thank you. I consider that quite a compliment from you."
"This is not funny. I refuse to be treated like a child."
"Then stop acting like one. You know that Tony Jones said to stay home and rest for at least ten days. You have been home for five days."
"These doctors do not know what they are talking about. They are just protecting their own necks from malpractice actions."
Julia shook her head. "Those doctors saved your life."
Jerry sighed. "You are impossible."
She took the suit hanger out of his hand and hung it back in the closet. "Get back in bed."
"I'm sick to death of being in bed." Jerry then gave her a sly grin. "Now if I were not alone, then maybe it would not be so bad."
Julia pulled back the covers and motioned for him to get back in the bed. "We have talked about this."
"No, we have not talked about it. You have unilaterally decided to decline my offer."
Julia let out an exasperated sigh. "You are recovering from a serious injury. Sharing a bed with you was not what the doctor ordered."
He climbed into bed. "Just another reason for me to hate doctors."
Julia covered Jerry with a blanket. "Now stay put. I am going to put Corrine on notice to call me if she sees you out of this room. If I get word that you are up and around, Nurse Ratchet will be here faster than a kangaroo can travel through the Outback."
"You are really twisted you know that? You are enjoying all of this."
Julia smiled again. "Of course. I am. It is the only redeeming aspect of being in love with you."
Jerry rolled his eyes. "Of all the women in the world, why did I have to choose you to fall in love with?"
Julia grinned at him and sat down next to him on the bed. "You were just lucky I guess. This weekend will be better. Maybe we can even go outside tomorrow and you can sit on the terrace."
Jerry put his hand over his heart and acted as if he would die from the shock of her statement. "You are actually going to allow me to leave this house? It must be Christmas."
Julia stood up. "That is enough from you, mister. I can always bring Jillian and her blocks in here so she can practice her aim. Your head makes a great target. I am leaving now and you need to get back to sleep."
Jerry grabbed Julia's arm. "I don't even get a kiss good-bye?"
"I don't think you deserve one this morning but I guess I will make the exception."
Julia kissed him good-bye and walked toward the door. "I mean it, you stay put."
Jerry rolled his eyes again. "Yes, master."
Julia smiled. "Glad to know you realize where we stand. Have a good day."
Jerry sighed and shook his head. He hated feeling helpless but he knew that Julia was in complete control now. He also knew that it was not a title she would give up easily.
Julia blew him a kiss and closed the door behind her. She grinned as she walked down the hall. She knew it would not last but for the time being, she held all the cards and had Jerry under control. Julia knew it was killing him but also knew he needed to be knocked down a few pegs anyway. Maybe this would do it.
L&B Records -- 2:00pm
The Idle Rich had been in the studio all week recording the new CD. Today was an especially hectic schedule because everything had to be finished for the mixing sessions which would begin tomorrow. Lois and Brenda took turns sitting with the engineers while the other watched the girls in the office area and prepared distribution lists for the CD release.
Brooke and Jillian were now sleeping and the band had just started a break. Brenda was at the desk in the office when Lois came out of the studio.
Lois flopped down on the couch. "What a week. This schedule has been the pits."
Brenda looked up from the keyboard. "You can say that again."
"I don't even know how you are still standing. Between this place and your evening meetings for Kanga's Kradle and the public appearances for Jacks Cosmetics, I am surprised you have not collapsed from sheer exhaustion."
Brenda tied her hair into a ponytail. "I'm fine. There is no need to worry about me."
Lois sat up. "I am serious. I can handle the afternoon session. Why don't you go home? I am sure your husband would like to see you before midnight one night this week."
Brenda shook her head. "I am not going to leave you here alone. It was bad enough when I had to spend all day Tuesday in Manhattan for Lucy. You had to handle everything then and I am not going to allow you to do that again. There is still a lot of work to do."
Lois rolled her eyes. "Geez louise, you are so stubborn."
Brenda laughed. "I appreciate the offer, I really do, but we are partners and I am going to hold up my end of the deal."
Lois fluttered her fingers in front of her. "Okay, just remember the offer stands."
Brenda smiled. "I will."
Lois looked down at her watch. "Look at the time. Another day this week when we forgot about lunch."
The front door opened simultaneously with Lois' statement. "Did I hear something about lunch?"
Brenda jumped out of the chair and ran over to hug Jax. "Honey, what a surprise."
Jax hugged Brenda and kissed her on her nose. "I figured that the two hardest working women in Port Charles would be skipping lunch again so I decided to rectify that little problem." He then held up a large paper bag."
Lois smiled. "You mean you did not order us an oyster feast from Ireland? Jax, you are slipping."
Jax laughed. "Maybe next time. Will you settle for cheese steaks and fries from South Street?"
Brenda grabbed the bag and grinned. "You didn't? You know that Lois and I can't resist either of these."
Lois then walked over to Brenda. "Girlfriend, hurry up and open that bag up. Just the smell of the grease is enough to make me start drooling."
Brenda wet her lips. "Let's get lunch on the table before the little heartbreaker wakes up."
Jax chuckled. "She is still at it?"
Lois nodded. "Are you kidding? She is the such a little tease. You should have seen how she was acting around Steve, the drummer, this morning."
Brenda laughed. "Jillian would wave and then when Steve would make a face or wave back to her, she would hide her eyes or lower her head as if to play coy. Plus the way she bats those eyelashes."
Jax shook his head and looked directly at Brenda. "So my daughter is a little flirt. I wonder where she gets that from?"
Brenda raised her eyebrows. "I have no idea whatsoever. It is time to eat."
Brenda emptied the contents of the bag onto the table and Lois went into the kitchen to get plates, glasses and a pitcher of iced tea.
Jax shook his head at the whirlwind before him. "Remind me to never try to come between either of you and food."
Brenda winked at him. "Smart man. What do you we have here exactly?"
Jax walked over to the table. "If it is safe to be this close to the food, then I will tell you. Lois, here is one for you with extra hots, double cheese and no tomatoes. Then Brenda here is yours without the onions and with extra mushrooms and peppers."
Lois sat down with her sub and shook her head. "You never cease to amaze me Jax with that memory of yours. It has been months since we last had subs from South Street yet you remembered what I ordered."
Jax smiled at Lois. "A gentleman always remembers what a beautiful lady likes and dislikes."
Ned walked into the office area. "I see you are still hitting on my wife, Jax."
"Good afternoon Nedley. I am merely appreciating your wife's beauty."
Ned walked up to the table. "What is all this?"
Brenda smirked at Ned. "Jax ordered in lunch from South Street."
Ned looked at Jax. "How nice? Do you have a fascination with eating at my table?"
Jax smiled. "Why wouldn't I enjoy eating here, the company is so good. Pull up a chair, I even managed to include lunch for you in the order."
Ned sat down next to Lois. "Thank you so much for inviting me to sit at my own table."
Jax flashed Ned a huge grin. "Anytime."
Ned opened up his sub and glared at Jax. "Onions. I hate onions and it looks like a double order of them."
Jax shook his head and a slight grin appeared on his face. "I am so sorry, I forgot."
Lois and Brenda both turned their heads to hide their laughter. It was just another round in the Jax vs. Ned bantering contest.
After lunch, Ned went back to warm up with band and Lois took the dishes into the kitchen. Brenda walked Jax to the door.
Brenda turned toward Jax. "Thank you for lunch."
Jax ran his hand through Brenda's hair. "I figured it would give me a good excuse to see you. I miss you."
Brenda rested her hand on Jax's chest. "I miss you too. It's almost over."
Jax nodded. "For this week. Next week will be worse between my trip to Hong Kong and your responsibilities for Kevin and Lucy's wedding next weekend."
"We'll have some time together."
Jax stroked her cheek. "How about tonight, just you and me?"
Brenda turned her face into Jax's palm. "I may be late."
Jax smiled. "You are worth waiting for. When I leave the office, I'll come by and pick up Jillian and you stay as long as you need to here."
Brenda kissed his palm. "It's a date and I'll be home as soon as I can. I love you."
Jax kissed Brenda fully on the lips and then opened the door. "I love you and I'll be waiting."
Brenda closed the door behind him and turned around and leaned against the door. She closed her eyes and a smile lit up her face. Lois walked out of the kitchen and saw her.
Lois smiled. "Geez girlfriend, do you think you can tone down that radiance you are emitting? If you could bottle that glow, Yankee Stadium would not need any lights for its night games."
Brenda walked away from the door. "Life is good, Lois, it is really good."
Lois nodded and grinned. "Yes, it is Brenda, yes, it is."
The Jacks Residence -- 10:30pm
Jax heard Brenda's car pull into the garage just as he had finished his final preparations for their late date. Lois had called Jax as soon as Brenda had left the gate house. Brenda had arranged for Jose to prepare dinner for everyone tonight since it was going to be a late night in the studio. When Virgil and Jose delivered the food, Virgil took Lois aside and passed on Jax's request that she call him as soon as Brenda left L&B for the evening.
Brenda walked into the house and was surprised to find it quiet. She called out to Jax but heard no response. She then saw a beautiful white rose sitting on the banister of the staircase. Next to the rose was a piece of snow white stationery folded into the shape of a heart. Brenda walked over to the banister and picked up the rose and brushed it against her cheek. She then opened the heart and read the note.
My darling,
The petals of this rose are as white as the pure driven snow. Our love is a thousand times purer than that snow. If it would make you happy, I would bring you a thimble of snow from atop the highest mountain.
Tonight is a celebration of the love we share. Follow the path of rose petals and the evening shall begin.
All my love,
Jax
Brenda looked up the staircase and rose petals adorned each step. She walked up the steps and followed the path which led past the nursery, where Brenda checked on Jillian, to the closed door of the master suite.
When Brenda entered the master suite, she closed the door behind her. The rose petals led to the dresser. On the dresser, she found a lovely pink rose and a piece of pink stationery designed in the shape of a heart. Next to the rose and note, was a pink foil wrapped box. Brenda brought the rose to her nose and smiled as she sniffed the sweet fragrance of the flower. She then opened up the note.
My beloved,
The richness of the pink petals surpasses the color of the most vibrant sunset in the Caribbean. You are more beautiful than any sunset this world has every seen. Join me in the moonlight at our own private beach. You will find the appropriate attire in the box on the dressing table. When you are ready, follow the pink petals to continue toward our night of romance.
Forever yours,
Jax
Brenda put down the pink rose and the note and opened up the box. She smiled as found a pink bikini and matching cover-up. Brenda quickly changed and then brushed her hair. She found a matching pink tie and pulled her hair back. The pink petals led to the rear door of the master suite. She opened it and pink rose petals outlined a path down the stairs again.
Brenda reached the bottom of the stairs and the trail of rose petals stopped at a credenza in the foyer. There sat a single red rose and a red foil heart. Brenda closed her eyes as she held the rose against her chest and then she opened the note.
My love,
A red rose, the symbol of love. The deepness of its color pales in comparison to the depth of my love for you. You are in my heart so deeply, there is nothing that could ever move you from your place within me. You own my heart as well as my soul and I will never be able to reclaim them. Follow the pathway of rose petals to my heart.
Eternally yours,
Jax
The red rose petals led into the living room to the doors leading out to the terrace. Brenda walked to the french doors and as she opened them, she saw that the trail of rose petals was now also lined with votive candles. The night was unseasonably warm and there was not even a breeze. It was as if it were the middle of August even though May was barely half over. She walked onto the terrace and followed the path down the steps toward the pool area. It was there that she saw him.
Brenda stopped in mid stride as her breath caught in her throat. She had never seen anything quite as gorgeous. The moonlight was shining on him and his eyes looked like blue diamonds sparkling in the sky. His blonde tresses shimmered as the moonbeams surrounded him. He was dressed only in a pair of black swimming trunks and his well conditioned body and rippling muscles were framed by the moonlight. Adonis was actually standing before her.
Jax held out his hand to her and somehow Brenda began breathing again. She walked toward him and only then did she notice the sound of soft music playing from the outdoor speakers of the sound system. As she reached Jax, Brenda saw the huge arrangement of two dozen red roses and the bucket of champagne that awaited her. Jax took her hand and immediately brought it to his lips. Brenda trembled from both the sight of him and the feel of his warm, wet lips on her skin. Jax felt his heart flutter as he saw her tremble.
"Good evening, my love."
Brenda swallowed hard. "Good evening. I loved the notes. They touched my heart."
Jax moved his hand to her cheek. "You look like a vision."
Brenda turned her face into his palm. "So do you."
Jax took her hand and led her to the double chaise lounge. Rose petals completely covered it. Brenda sat down and Jax poured the champagne. He handed her a glass and sat down next to her and then raised his glass. "To the love of my life and the owner of my heart. I will cherish you each day and treasure you each night. You are my life and my love forever."
Brenda struggled with her words. When she finally spoke, her voice was not much louder than a whisper. "Jax, do you have any idea of much I love you? I told you once that you were like make believe and a greater truth has never been spoken." Tears freely spilled from her eyes. "How did I ever find you? What angel sent you to me?"
Jax gently wiped the tears from her face. "The same angel who sent you to me."
Brenda took a deep breath and placed her hand over Jax's hand which was caressing her face. "I love you so."
Jax smiled. "I love you too, baby." He then rose to his feet and extended his hand to her again. "Dance with me."
Brenda stood up and melted into his arms. They danced in the moonlight and Brenda snuggled into Jax's embrace. He rested his chin on top of her head and she rested her head on Jax's shoulder as they swayed to the melody. As the music continued Jax pulled away slightly and Brenda looked up at him. Their eyes met and the love radiating from their eyes was almost blinding. Jax lowered his head and his lips covered hers. The kiss was soft and gentle but quickly intensified. They drifted back toward the chaise lounge as their lips never separated. Jax and Brenda sat down and Brenda wrapped her arms around Jax's neck. After a few minutes, their lips finally parted.
Brenda took Jax's hand in hers. "This is some date, Mr. Jacks, and in our own home."
Jax nodded. "Yes, but it only us. Jillian is fast asleep and Julia is listening for her in case she wakes up. Julia forced Jerry to turn in for the night and she is in her suite for the evening on the other side of the house and the staff is all gone for the night. We are alone."
Brenda shook her head. "I guess you arranged for this hot and sultry weather for this May evening as well."
Jax grinned. "A perfect match for you, Mrs. Jacks."
Brenda laughed. "I think you can handle it."
Jax winked at her. "Yes, I can but I think you would be more comfortable if you were cooled off a little."
Brenda raised her eyebrow. "What do you have in mind?"
"You'll see." Jax pushed the cover-up off Brenda's shoulders and she leaned forward so he could take it off her. His fingers then removed the pink tie from her hair. Jax watched Brenda as she gently shook her head causing her dark hair to spill over her shoulders. He then reached into the champagne bucket and pulled out an ice cube. Jax then traced Brenda's lips with the ice cube. "Is that any better?"
Brenda smiled. "You will have to see for yourself."
Jax ran the ice along Brenda's lips again and then kissed them. Then he did the same thing to her forehead, her eyelids, her nose and her chin. He kissed her ears and then trailed the ice along her neck as his lips followed the path of the ice. He slid the ice down her arm and back up it before moving across her shoulders and trailing the ice down her opposite arm. Brenda closed her eyes as the feel of cold ice was followed by the warmth of his lips on her skin.
Jax trailed the ice over her lips again before moving the ice to her chest. He traced the ice down the center of her chest until he reached the valley between her breasts. Then he moved the ice cube over the material of her bikini top to continue the path down to her stomach. His lips moved to her stomach and followed the path of the ice back up until it reached the valley between her breasts again. There Jax's free hand untied the bottom strings of the pink bikini. Jax lifted the bikini top and he traced the outline of her full chest with the ice. Brenda quivered at the sensation as Jax mouth then did its own exploring of each beautiful round orb.
Jax finally lifted his head from the pleasure of her chest. He then removed another ice cub from the bucket and moved down her stomach again. He ran the ice cube down each leg and Brenda gasped at the feel of the ice and the caress of his other hand which followed the path of the ice. She trembled from excitement as the ice reached her bikini bottoms. His fingers stroked her and Brenda's passion meter was on overload.
Brenda gasped. "Jax, I want you. I need you."
Jax dropped the ice cube onto the concrete. Brenda inched into his lap and tightened her grip around his neck. Jax put his hands under her butt and stood up. Brenda wrapped her legs around him and his lips overtook hers. He walked over to the jacuzzi which was a few yards from the pool. He stepped down into the warm water and sat down with Brenda still straddling him. The jets of the jacuzzi were on full speed and the pulsating movement of the water fanned the fires of their passion. Jax untied the top strings of Brenda's bikini and tossed the bikini top aside. He finally released her mouth and she pulled away slightly. The moon was shining around her and she looked like an angel. Jax's mouth trailed along her chest again as his hands reached for the elastic of her bathing suit bottoms. The bottoms were quickly removed and Brenda's hands reached for him.
She reached for him and removed Jax's swimming trunks as they were tossed aside with her suit. Their lips met again and Jax's tongue fully explored her mouth. Brenda moaned and then her tongue met his in a sensual dance of its own. Steam was being emitted from the jacuzzi and it was hard to tell whether it was from the temperature of the water or the temperatures of Jax and Brenda.
Jax pulled Brenda more onto his lap as his hands moved along her thighs. His hands then began caressing her breasts and Brenda moved over him to make them one. She rested her hands on his shoulders for support and began moving up and down. She felt as if sunshine had entered her heart and soul. They moved faster and faster together and Brenda arched higher and higher. The sensation from the surges of warm water around them heightened the eroticism of the moment. Jax fought to maintain his control because he knew Brenda was on the brink of surrendering to their passion. He wanted to her to experience the pleasure he knew he was about to enjoy. Their movements were more fervent and powerful than the pulsating water from the jacuzzi's jets. Brenda's breathing was heavy and she cried out Jax's name. He responded in kind with words of love amidst his groans of pleasure. Brenda forced her eyes open so that she could see the love and passion in Jax's eyes. As they reached heaven together, Brenda leaned back completely engulfed by the flames blazing inside her. Simultaneously they murmured "I love you" as they soared into a paradise like few had ever seen.
After they had come back to earth from their trip to the heavens, Brenda sunk down deeper into the tepid, relaxing water and rested her head against Jax's shoulders. He pulled her closer to him and gazed at her in the moonlight.
Jax ran his hand through her hair. "You look so beautiful."
Brenda sighed contentedly. "I always feel beautiful after you love me." Brenda then turned to face him and traced his jawline with her finger. "You, my darling, look like a Greek god."
Jax smiled and kissed the top of her head. "You are too kind."
Brenda lifted her head from his chest and looked at him. "Thank you for a perfect evening."
"How could it not be perfect, we were together. That's all it takes."
Brenda was beaming brighter than the moon. "You're right. Us is all we ever need."
Jax grabbed the two terrycloth robes he had brought out earlier and slipped his on. He helped Brenda out of the jacuzzi and wrapped her up in the other robe. She grabbed their discarded clothes and Jax grabbed the roses. They walked toward the house with their arms around one another. It had just been another night of love and romance for the Jackses.

The Jacks Residence -- 11:00am
As expected, it had been a chaotic week. Jax had returned from Hong Kong two nights ago and Jerry had gone back to a limited work schedule during the week. Julia was back at the loft alone much to Jerry's chagrin. He was more than ready to consummate their physical relationship but Julia was still concerned about his health. He was afraid he was going to kill himself from the torture and longing before Dr. Julia ever gave him a clean bill of health.
Brenda had spent the week in mixing sessions for L&B and attending meetings for Kanga's Kradle. Fortunately, Lucy's wedding plans had taken precedence over anything with Jacks Cosmetics this week so Brenda did not have obligations in that area. Once the wedding was over this afternoon, Brenda and Jax looked forward to spending some time together over the two remaining days of the Memorial Day weekend.
This morning, there was a frenzy of activity in the Jacks household. It had actually started last night when Lucy had shown up with all her paraphernalia for the wedding this afternoon. Lucy, Robin and Felicia had spent the night at the house. It was a slumber party for the bridal party as the ladies gave each other manicures and facials. At midnight, they ventured into the kitchen and made s'mores. Felicia was Lucy's maid of honor while Brenda and Robin were her bridesmaids.
While the ladies had their slumber party, Mac had given Kevin a bachelor party at the Outback. Both Jax and Jerry had attended Kevin's bachelor party and Brenda had advised them both to behave themselves. The ladies were still laughing in the guest room suite when Jax and Jerry returned home from the party. It was not a night for sleeping.
The hair stylist and make-up artist were at the house now preparing the ladies for their march down the aisle. The flowers had been delivered and Chase had just arrived to start setting up for the photographs of Lucy and her attendants.
Brenda walked into the dining room as Jerry and Jax were sitting at the table finishing a late breakfast. Her hair and make-up were done and she was wearing a long white satin robe. "So did you two enjoy yourself at the party?"
Jerry sighed. "We managed for appearance's sake. I mean we could not insult the stripper who jumped out of the cake."
Brenda rolled her eyes. "I don't get this fascination with you men and half naked women jumping out of cakes."
Jerry shook his head. "You would never make it as a man then."
Brenda gave Jerry a look of mock distress. "Now that is a real put down."
Jax put down his glass of grapefruit juice. "Sweetie, I am thrilled that you will never make it as a man."
Brenda sat down in his lap and smiled at him. "That is a real shock."
Jax flashed her a huge smile back.. "You look beautiful already. You could wear that robe down the aisle and still look like a vision."
Jerry frowned. "You two are so obsessed with each other, it is sickening."
Brenda gave Jerry a lopsided grin. "Did someone wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?"
Jax shook his head. "No, I think someone is just upset that he woke up alone again this morning rather than with a certain blonde."
Jerry glared at Jax. "That is enough, Jasper."
Brenda bit the inside of her cheek to keep from laughing. "Julia has been concerned about you Jerry which is understandable. Now, I think you need to just sweep her off your feet."
Jax laughed. "That will be a sight. Jerry, the broom is in the kitchen closet. You would not know how to do any other type of sweeping."
Jerry rolled his eyes at Jax. "Remind me to kick you when you are down. First, I am poked and prodded and treated like a prisoner in the hospital. Then I get no sympathy from my brother when I come home and the woman I love treats me like a complete invalid. Now, I am insulted at every turn after being awakened at dawn by some damn webbed footed beast."
Brenda began giggling. "His name is Sigmund and he is our guest."
Jerry folded his arms in front of him. "Pardon me, but he did not introduce himself when he sat on my face this morning."
Jax was hysterical. "He felt sorry for you since you were sleeping alone again. We could arrange for you to spend some more time with him. Lucy asked if we could watch him while she and Kevin are on their honeymoon in Paris but we can't because of our anniversary trip next weekend. I can always offer your services though."
Jerry sighed. "You think you are such a comedian."
Jax continued to laugh. "I am and you give me such great material to work with."
At that moment, the sound of loud quacking and high pitched honking was heard. Then Lucy's screams sounded throughout the house. Brenda jumped off Jax's lap and they both ran into the foyer as Jerry followed behind them.
Lucy came running down the stairs. Felicia was right behind her screaming for Lucy to stop. Lucy was only dressed in her camisole, underwear, pantyhose and high heels. "It's Sigmund."
Jax saw that the front door had been left open, probably by one of the photography assistants. Jax raced to the door and as he reached the doorway, he saw the swans in the fountain pecking at Sigmund. White feathers were flying everywhere.
Jax quickly raced down the front steps and reached the fountain just as Lucy reached the door and ran outside herself. Julia was walking up the sidewalk at the same time. She did a double take when she saw Jax step into the fountain and Lucy running toward him in her underwear. Jax grabbed the quacking Sigmund and stepped out of the fountain.
Lucy stood in front of Jax. "My poor Siggy. Did those huge monsters hurt you?" She then looked up at Jax. "Thank you so much, Jax. I don't know what I would have done if anything had happened to him. That would be such bad karma for today."
Jax sighed. "Lucy, shouldn't you get inside and finish getting ready?"
Lucy nodded. "Yes, and Sigmund, I am not letting you out of my sight. What were you trying to do, flirt with her?" Now, I am going to have to comb your feathers again and have Jean sprinkle some hair spray on it. Bad boy."
Lucy strolled inside and Julia walked up to Jax and gave him a look of confusion. Jax looked at her. "Julia, don't even ask."
Jax and Julia walked into the house and Jax shook his head at Brenda. Brenda motioned for him to keep quiet as Lucy walked up stairs still lecturing Sigmund about mischief.
As soon as Lucy was out of sight, Jerry started laughing. "My baby brother, the hero. I can see it on the news tonight, "Corporate shark saves duck from swan attack -- film at 11."
Jax just glared at Jerry and then turned to Brenda. "That woman is a nut. Why again is that duck here?"
Brenda stroked Jax's chest. "You know he is in the wedding party. I know Lucy is slightly eccentric but she is always entertaining."
Jax nodded. "That she is. I don't think Kevin will ever have a dull moment with her around."
Jerry laughed again. "Yes, and Sigmund is the perfect pet for her. That woman is a loon so she should be socializing with a duck."
Brenda shook her head. "Okay, guys, let's just drop it."
Julia walked up to Jerry and kissed him. "Good morning."
Jerry's response was curt. "If you say so."
Julia sighed. "What is the matter with you today?"
Jerry rolled his eyes. "What do you think?"
Jax and Brenda sensed that this discussion was going downhill fast so they excused themselves and Brenda went to get dressed while Jax went to check on Jillian in the playpen.
Julia ignored Jerry's last remark. "How was the bachelor party? I hope you did not stay out late. You know you still need your rest and today is going to be a long day for you."
Jerry folded his arms in front of him. "It was quite enlightening and this morning was as well. I mean I have actually seen two women in their underwear in less than twelve hours. First our friendly neighborhood stripper and now the soon-to-be Lucy Collins. Yet, I have not be given the privilege by you, Ms. Barrett. Do you see something wrong with this picture here?"
"Jerry, this is not the time to discuss this."
Jerry shook his head. "You're right but that does not change anything. I love you and I want you. We have wasted enough time and you need to decide now what you want to do about that. The next step is up to you. I have to get dressed. At least some people are furthering their happiness today."
Jerry walked upstairs and Julia took a deep breath. He was right, she was dragging her feet. She still was getting used to the idea of being in love with the last man on earth she ever expected to care about. Making love to him would be the final act of surrender to her feelings and she was terrified. Julia had driven herself mad the week before as she had fought the urge to climb into bed with him every night she had spent at the house. Seeing him now, she knew in her heart, it was hopeless. She was not going to be able to resist him much longer. Now she just had to accept that and move forward for both of their sakes. Julia was going to surrender and pray that her heart was not ripped out in the process.
The Port Charles Hotel -- 3:00pm
The ceremony was taking place on the terrace of the Grand Ballroom while the reception would be held inside the Grand Ballroom. Most of Port Charles was in attendance as well as numerous reporters and photographers.
Everyone was in their places for the ceremony to start. Kevin was waiting with the minister and Mac as the processional music began. Scott and Tom had shown everyone to their seats and had taken their places next to Mac. The ladies lined up to begin their march down the aisle. They were wearing full length teal satin gowns with empire waists and scoop necks. They all wore pearls around their necks and pearl earrings. Pearl clips secured their hair in French twists. They carried bouquets of white and pink roses, gardenias, starlight lilies and ivy.
Robin began the procession with Brenda following and then Felicia. Camera flashes followed the attendants' trip down the aisle. Jax winked at Brenda as she passed his seat. To him, she looked more beautiful than any bride could be. Sigmund then began his path down the aisle. He had a teal satin bow tied around his neck to match the cummerbunds of the groom and the groomsmen as well as the gowns of the ladies. A small white satin pillow was secured to Sigmund's back and on it, the wedding bands were tied with teal satin ribbon. Serena followed closely behind Sigmund. She wore a beautiful white satin gown with a teal satin sash. She dropped white and pink rose petals as she walked down the aisle.
Halfway down the aisle, Sigmund decided he had done enough and he turned around. Serena motioned for him to continue but he merely started quacking. He then sat down in the middle of the aisle. Jax covered his mouth and Brenda gave him a glaring look from the altar. Jerry started laughing and then Jax did as well. Lois and Ned were sitting behind them and Ned joined in on the hysterics. Lois and Julia swatted each of the three of them.
Serena began pleading with Sigmund to get up but it only caused him to quack louder. Then he finally got back to his feet and then began running in circles in the aisle. Mac started laughing at the altar which set off Tom and Scott and Kevin took a deep breath and began to walk up the aisle to get Sigmund. As soon as Sigmund saw Kevin, the duck ran into the closest row of seats and started waddling over the guests' feet. Amanda Barrington started screaming when Sigmund crawled between her legs and the whole crowd became hysterical.
Kevin's father, Victor Collins, was waiting to walk Lucy down the aisle as the commotion began. She had been so instrumental in bringing him back to reality that he became like a father to her. Both he and Kevin had been honored when Lucy had asked Victor to walk her down the aisle. Now, all hell had broken lose as Mac, Scott and Tom had joined Kevin in trying to restrain a runaway duck. Because she did not know what else to do, the organist was still playing the processional music as all this was going on. It was like a Three Stooges movie and tears were coming out of Jax, Jerry and Ned's eyes they were laughing so hard at the chaos. Brenda was shaking her head at all of them.
Lucy finally decided that she had to step in. She yelled from the back entrance of the terrace. "Everyone close their eyes and please stop that music. Nobody is going to see me. Kevin this means you too."
Lucy handed her bouquet to Victor and walked onto the terrace. "I mean it, no one look at me."
The guests covered their eyes and continued to laugh as Lucy went to the side of the terrace where Sigmund was quacking.
Lucy shook her head. "Sigmund, Mommy is here. Don't be scared. No one is going to hurt you."
Edward began chuckling again. "That beast should be on the menu not waddling down the aisle."
Alan laughed. "This tops her wedding to me and that red dress incident."
Lila hushed them. "That is enough from both of you."
Lucy was trying to coax Sigmund to come to her. "Sigmund, you are not being a good duck. Come to Mommy."
Luke was coughing from his hysteria. "Hey Luce, I can go get Foster. He is very good at fetch."
Laura elbowed Luke while Lucky and Tony started laughing again.
Lucy shook her head. "That is enough from you, Mr. Spencer, and keep your eyes closed."
Finally Victor came onto the terrace and he and Lucy were able to trap Sigmund in a corner. Lucy picked up the duck and lectured him on his misdeeds. "No more bread from the Italian bakery for a week because of this. There will be no wedding cake today either."
Lucy took the sash from Serena's dress and tied it to Sigmund's collar so that Serena could walk him down the aisle without anymore incidents. "Okay, everyone, sorry for the interruption. We will start from where we left off before we had our little problem."
Lucy left the terrace again and everyone took their places again. Scattered giggles still were heard. The processional started and Serena finished her path down the last half of the aisle. The music changed and Victor began walking Lucy down the aisle. She was beautiful with a tight-fitting, sleeveless gown. The bodice was embroidered with pearls and there was a slit in the back. A tiara sat atop her head with a short veil. She carried a bouquet of white roses, gardenias and ivy.
Kevin simply shook his head and smiled as she approached him. It was just another typical day in his roller coaster life now. With Lucy, every day was an escapade and this was just today's.
After the ceremony, things calmed down only to a dull roar at the reception. The wedding events were still the major topic of conversation. Ned walked over to Jax and Jerry and they all started laughing without even a word being said. Brenda, Lois and Julia rolled their eyes at all of them.
Ned cleared his throat. "Well, at least she did not lose her dress half way down the aisle so that she was standing in front of everyone in her underwear like so often happens at the Nurses' Ball."
Jax laughed. "No, she did that this morning in front of us and the whole household staff. The woman certainly has a tendency to appear in public in less than full attire."
Ned's mouth dropped open. "What?"
Jerry chuckled. "Sigmund escaped from the house and decided to make a move on the swans and Jax had to rescue him. Lucy ran outside in her underwear and high heels to save her beast."
Ned started laughing again. "She is something else. God help Kevin."
Lucy and Kevin had their first dance and then the guests joined them on the dance floor. Jax wrapped one arm around Brenda's waist and took her hand with his other hand. They threaded their fingers together and their hands rested against his chest. Brenda's other arm was around Jax's neck. They gazed at one another as they moved to the music.
Jax took a deep breath. "You look so beautiful, you outshine the bride."
Brenda smiled. "Thank you but I don't think you are impartial. You are pretty gorgeous yourself today. That tie brings out the vivid sapphire of your eyes."
Jax brought her hand to his lips. "Thank you. I guess this will be one for the books."
Brenda laughed. "I think so. I just hope they are happy. If they are half as happy as we are, they will be very lucky."
Jax nodded. "Yes, they will. I love you Mrs. Jacks."
Brenda beamed. "I love you too Mr. Jacks."
After a few minutes, Brenda looked over and saw Jerry and Julia dancing. "Well, I guess things have calmed down between our siblings."
Jax looked at Jerry and Julia. "It looks like things are okay at least for this minute. But with those two, you never know how long that will last."
Jerry and Julia danced silently. Julia was thinking back to the ceremony, not to the chaos but to the pledges and commitment Kevin and Lucy had vowed to each other. Somehow hearing their pledges to one another had helped Julia sort things out in her mind. She loved Jerry with all her heart and there was nothing she could do to change it. It was time to admit that and move forward.
Jerry noticed Julia's preoccupation. "Is anything wrong?"
Julia shook her head. "No, I was just thinking that this is the first time we have danced together."
Jerry sighed. "Yes, I guess it is."
Julia rested her head on Jerry's shoulder. "We are pretty good dancers together."
Jerry pulled away from Julia slightly. "Yes, we are. Did you not think we would be?"
Julia shook her head. "No, I just am making an observation."
Jerry's face showed a look of confusion as Julia put her head back down on his chest. She was really driving him crazy now but she felt so good in his arms. He knew now how much he loved her and that was just the beginning of all these feelings of confusion. The wonders of love.
The reception continued and the cake was cut. Then it was time for Lucy to throw her bouquet. Brenda pushed Robin and Julia out into the middle of the dance floor to join the other single women. Lucy threw the bouquet and it headed straight for Bobbie who was standing in front of Julia. Bobbie ducked out of the way and the bouquet landed right in Julia's arms.
Brenda was grinning from ear to ear and Jax rolled his eyes at her. "You could not have planned that better if you had orchestrated it yourself."
Brenda giggled. "Some days lady luck is on our side or maybe it is just fate."
A chair was moved to the center of the dance floor so that Kevin could remove Lucy's garter. The men were whistling and hollering for Kevin to lift Lucy's dress higher as the band played "The Lady of Spain." Kevin shook his head at the crowd. "I don't know what you all are hollering about. It is not like you haven't seen Lucy fully exposed before. This whole room has seen her entire leg so we don't need any repeat performance."
Everyone laughed and Lucy swatted Kevin's head. Kevin removed the garter and all the single men were asked to move to the dance floor for the garter toss. Brenda noticed that Jerry had not moved to the dance floor but was standing with the other guests off to the side. She motioned for him to go and he shook his head.
Jax laughed at the exchange between Brenda and Jerry. "Brenda, give it up. He won't go out there."
Brenda rolled her eyes. "We will see about that."
Jax watched as Brenda walked behind the crowd, by the head table and then toward where Jerry was standing. She eased her way behind him as Kevin turned around to toss the garter. As soon as the garter left Kevin's hand, Jerry flew out onto the dance floor. The garter landed on his shoulder and everyone laughed. Jax was completely perplexed at the chain of events and looked for Brenda. She was nowhere in sight. A moment later, Brenda was at his side looking as if she had been there the entire time.
Jax looked down at her. "Okay, what the hell just happened?"
Brenda gave him a look of confusion. "When?"
She was so adorable when she was mischievous that Jax could not help but grin. "Brenda, what did you do?"
Brenda smiled. "I knew Jerry really wanted to be out there so I helped him."
Jax was trying to keep a straight face but she was making it impossible with the cute expression on her face. "How exactly did you help him?" Jax then noticed that Brenda was holding her bouquet which had been at the head table five minutes ago.
"Well, you see these team satin ribbons hanging from this bouquet. They are lovely aren't they?"
Jax bit the inside of his mouth to stop from laughing at her. "Brenda, spill it."
Brenda was fighting her own laughter. "Well, you see these ribbons have to be fastened to this basket. It turns out that the florist used hat pins to attach them."
Jax gave her a lopsided grin. "And?"
Brenda began giggling. "You would be surprised how fast someone moves when one of these pins just happens to, accidentally of course, get stuck in their cheek and I don't mean the one on their face."
He wanted to lecture her, but he couldn't. He wanted to put her over his knee and spank her, but he could not do that either -- well not in a public place in all these clothes, but maybe something could be arranged for tonight. She was so bad but one look at her was all it took to forget that. "You are unbelievable. What am I going to do with you?"
Brenda snuggled up to him. "I am sure you can think of something."
While Brenda and Jax were discussing her wicked deeds, Jerry and Julia were in the center of the dance floor. The music played and Jerry was sliding the garter up Julia's leg. Julia was blushing partly from the embarrassment of this whole tradition but mostly from the sensation Jerry's touch was giving her. Brenda turned around to look at them and smiled at the look on Julia's face.
Jax put his arms around her waist and kissed her neck. "So all your machinations worked. Are you satisfied?"
Brenda turned her head toward Jax. "For Julia and Jerry, yes. For us, not yet but I have no doubt that will be rectified this evening."
Jax grinned. "You are pretty sure of yourself, aren't you?"
Brenda smiled. "Yes, I am and I am also sure of you. Between you spending last night alone in our bed because of the slumber party and me sleeping alone in our bed the four nights you were in Hong Kong this week, I think we both are overdue for some satisfaction."
Jax laughed. "Now I know why I love you so much. You know me so well."
Jerry and Julia left the dance floor after the completion of the garter tradition. Brenda smiled as they approached. "Well, you two certainly made an impression. How interesting that you both caught the garter and the bouquet."
Jerry rolled his eyes. "I would not exactly say interesting."
Brenda gave Jerry a completely straight face. "I am just glad you went out there. I did not think you were going to go out there."
Jax turned around to hide his mirth while Jerry just shook his head. "I did not. I have no idea what the hell happened."
Brenda shrugged. "I guess it was fate then."
Jax gave Brenda a look of incredulity. "Jerry, why don't we go get the ladies a drink?"
Jax and Jerry went toward the bar and Brenda looked at Julia. "Are you all right?"
Julia shook her head. "No, but I probably never will be again. It is all so scary but at the same time, it is so inspiring. Hearing Lucy and Kevin today pledge their love to one another did not have me running for the hills like I thought it would. They seem truly happy just like you and Jax and Ned and Lois and Jane and John."
Brenda nodded. "They are happy and that is all I want for you."
Julia sighed. "I know and I admit I want it too. Then this ridiculous garter and bouquet tradition. What do you think this all means?"
Brenda cleared her throat. "In the grand scheme of things, I don't know but for the immediate future I have a suggestion."
Julia looked at Brenda. "What?"
Brenda cleared her throat. "I think that both you and Jerry would be happier if instead of looking across the breakfast table at me tomorrow morning, Jerry was looking across the table at you."
Julia smiled. She had been thinking the same thing all day and now someone other than Jerry had said it out loud. Jax and Jerry then walked up to Brenda and Julia with glasses of champagne. Brenda took a glass from Jax. "Thank you darling."
Jerry passed Julia a glass. "Here you are. One of these days I will be able to rejoin you champagne drinkers again."
Brenda smiled. "You will be off your medication soon and then you can join the rest of us. I remember the months of pregnancy and nursing when I thought I was going to drown on club soda."
Julia smiled at Jerry. "It won't be long. In the meantime and if you don't mind, how about being my designated driver this evening? If you will drive me home, then I can pick my car up sometime over the weekend from the garage here."
Jerry shook his head at her. "You mean you are not going to tell me to leave the reception now and go home to get some rest. This is a miracle."
Julia laughed. "It is a special occasion so no. In fact, if you drive me home, I will throw something into the oven for dinner for you."
Jerry gave her a lopsided grin. "I guess I can make the sacrifice and drive you all the way across town."
Julia nodded. "Good. Now, I do think it is time for you to sit down though."
Julia took his hand and Jerry rolled his eyes. "I knew this was too good to be true."
Julia winked at Brenda and Brenda laughed as Julia dragged Jerry back to the table. Jax shook his head. "What was all that about?"
Brenda sighed contentedly. "I think we just lost a breakfast companion for tomorrow morning."
Julia's Loft -- 9:00pm
Julia and Jerry had returned from the reception about an hour and a half earlier. Julia had changed into a pair of light denim jeans and a sleeveless linen shirt. Jerry had taken off his shoes, tie and jacket to get comfortable. Julia had thrown some fettucini and salad together for dinner. They had just finished eating and Julia was in the kitchen with the dishes. Jerry brought in the last of the dishes from the dining room table. He remembered the scene in the kitchen the last time he had been at the loft. He had told Julia he loved her for the first time and then tried to get her to admit she felt the same way. She had refused to admit it and he had stormed out after kissing her. At least they were beyond that now.
Julia was washing the pots and pans when she felt Jerry's hands reach around her waist. She then felt his lips on the back of her neck. "That is very distracting."
Jerry smiled into her neck. "That is the whole point."
Julia swallowed hard. "I need to get the grease out of these pots."
Jerry laughed. "Why? Are the grease police coming this evening?"
Julia shook her head. "Very funny." She then reached for a towel hanging on the cabinet door. She handed the towel to Jerry. "Here you can dry this pot so I can finish the other one."
Jerry cocked his head at her. "Do I look like a dishwasher to you?"
Julia smiled. "No, but I am washing so I need a dish dryer. That you look like."
Jerry rolled his eyes as Julia handed him the pot. "I don't believe I am drying pots and pans."
Julia grinned at him again. "And doing a very good job of it."
Jerry could not help but laugh at the whole scene. After the dishes were dried, Julia made coffee and they went into the living room. Jerry turned on the stereo and then sat next to Julia on the sofa.
Julia looked at him. "You did take your pill, didn't you?"
Jerry sighed. "Yes. I really can take care of myself you know?"
"I am aware of that. I am just concerned about you." Julia's voice lowered. "You were still in intensive care just a few ago and we didn't know ......" She stopped and took a deep breath. This was not what she wanted to get into now.
Jerry lifted her chin so that she was looking at him. "I know. I am sorry for sounding so ungrateful at times."
Julia shook her head. "No, I know that I tend to suffocate people. I realize that I have not given you any room to breathe."
Jerry stroked her cheek with his hand. "No one except my own family has ever worried about like you have. No one has ever cared about me enough to do that and I know how difficult I was for all of you."
Julia smiled. "You were being no more difficult than usual. You are a very difficult person Jerry as am I. That is what is so ..."
Jerry interrupted her. "Scary?"
Julia exhaled slowly. "Yes."
Jerry looked at her. "For me too, sweetheart. I had never really been in love before and then this irritating blonde woman tries to steal my cab in the rain. Nothing was ever the same again."
Julia sighed. "It isn't any easier the second or third or tenth time along. That is especially true when you are dealing with an exasperating man who did steal your cab in the rain causing you to break the heel of your favorite shoes."
Jerry cupped her face in his hands. "I love you Julia Barrett. I don't know what is going to happen but I know I am a better person with you. No one has ever made me feel this way or want the things I want now. There is nothing I can do to change it. I know there are no guarantees about anything but for the first time, that does not matter to me. I just know I want you in my life."
Jerry found herself trembling. She could not believe how much his words meant to her. Words tumbled out of Julia's mouth. They were spoken straight from her heart. "I love you and I admit it scares me to death. But not being able to love you, scares me even more. I can't change that and I don't even think I would if I could. For the first time in my life, I am going to follow my heart. It is telling me that I belong with you."
Jerry pulled her face to him. His lips blanketed hers and Julia surrendered her lips immediately. Jerry eased her onto the couch as his tongue delved into her mouth. She moaned as he fully tasted her. He released her lips and his mouth then moved down her neck.
Julia was completely overwhelmed by the sensations she was feeling. She could deny what she felt for him. "Please make love to me."
Jerry pulled away from her slightly. "Are you sure?"
Julia smiled. "Yes, more than anything in my life."
As much as he wanted carry her, Jerry decided his ribs could probably do without that. Instead, he took her hand and led her into the bedroom. When they reached the door, he pulled her into his arms again and their lips met. They drifted toward the bed hand in hand and mouth to mouth and as they did, "For the First Time" was heard over the stereo.
Are those your eyes?
Is that your smile?
I've been looking at you forever,
But I never saw you before.
Are those your hands, holding mine?
Now I wonder how I could have been so blind.
As they reached the foot of the bed, Jerry began unbuttoning Julia's blouse. He pushed it off her arms and then captured her mouth again. His lips then moved down her neck and traveled down her chest. Jerry's lips and tongue dipped into the valley between her breasts as his hands cupped her breasts through the satin material of her bra. Julia's hands grabbed Jerry's thick tresses and softly moaned.
For the first time, I am looking in your eyes.
For the first time, I am seeing who you are.
I can't believe how much I see
When you're looking back at me.
Now I understand what love is,
Love is, for the first time.
Jerry pushed the straps of Julia's bra off her shoulder and then unfastened the hooks. The bra landed on the floor next to the blouse. Jerry's hands covered her breasts and his fingers tenderly caressed them as Julia gasped. Julia unbuttoned Jerry's shirt and carefully removed it from his chest paying careful attention to not disturb his rib injury. She dropped baby kisses down his chest and along his washboard stomach. Jerry removed the clip from her hair and watched as the blonde curls spilled down her shoulders.
Can this be real?
Can this be true?
Am I the person I was this morning
And are you the same in you?
It's all so strange.
How can it be?
All along this love was right in front of me.
As their lips met in a scintillating kiss, Jerry unbuttoned Julia's jeans. They fell down to her feet where she stepped out of them as well as sandals. Julia unhooked his belt and then unbuttoned his trousers. Jerry kicked off his trousers and removed his socks. His black satin boxers and her cream satin panties were added to the mounting pile of clothing on the floor. He held out his hand to her and helped her climb into bed. Jerry slid into bed beside her and then covered her body with his.
For the first time, I am looking in your eyes.
For the first time, I am seeing who you are.
I can't believe how much I see
When you're looking back at me.
Now I understand what love is,
Love is, for the first time.
His tongue teased her hardened peaks. Julia moaned as he gently and lovingly attended to each inch of her chest. Julia ran her fingernails down his back. His hands stroked her stomach and then moved lower as he tenderly caressed her. Julia called out his name and then she joined Jerry in her own game of loving exploration, causing him to groan in delight.
Such a long time ago
I had given up on finding this emotion ever again
But you live with me now
Yes, I've found you some how
And I've never been so sure.
Julia wrapped her legs around him and rocked her hips. Jerry made them one groaned as Julia arched her back and moved in synchrony with him. Julia grabbed the brass headboard as their lovemaking became more intense. Jerry interlocked his fingers with hers as he reached the brink of ecstasy. Julia called out his name as they reached paradise together. It was like nothing either had experienced before -- a complete union of heart and soul.
For the first time, I am looking in your eyes.
For the first time, I am seeing who you are.
I can't believe how much I see
When you're looking back at me.
Now I understand what love is,
Love is, for the first time.
As their skin glistened from the energy expent during their initial display of passion and then its encore, Julia rested her head on Jerry's chest. Jerry was still breathing heavily as he ran his fingers through her blonde tresses. Julia kissed his nipples and then laid her back down on his chest. She sighed contentedly. "I love you Jerry."
Jerry kissed the top of her head and whispered to her. "For the first time in my life, I know what love is and I love you Julia."

The Jacks Residence -- 11:00am
Brenda and Jax were spending the morning by the pool as Jillian was babbling away in her playpen in the shade. It was another warm, breezy and sunny day. The weather during the entire Memorial Day weekend had been like this. It had been perfect for Lucy and Kevin's wedding on Saturday and now it would be a great day for the Quartermaine's annual Memorial Day picnic this afternoon.
Brenda was lying on her stomach on the chaise lounge as Jax was applying suntan lotion to her back. His hands gently massaged the lotion into her silky skin. His hands moved across her shoulders and around the strings of her black bikini. Brenda moaned softly as the feel of his caress. Jax's hands moved down her back and back up again. When they reached the middle of her back again, his hands glided down the sides of her back to her chest where his fingers caressed her breasts through the bikini.
Brenda giggled and lifted her head. "Jax, that is not my back."
Jax grinned. "Sorry."
Brenda shook her head. "You are only sorry you got busted. I would have thought your appetite would have been satisfied from our feast this morning, not to mention last night and yesterday morning."
Jax laughed. "Can I help it that you look so sexy in that bikini and we are all alone out here?"
Brenda lifted her sunglasses up over her eyes. "We are not exactly alone. Jillian is right there plus I expect Robin at some point and Lord knows when Jerry will show up. He has to come home sometime."
Jax rubbed the lotion on the back of Brenda's legs. "No, he doesn't. Knowing Jerry, he will go out and buy a whole new wardrobe to keep at the loft and send for anything else he needs. It would not surprise me if a messenger showed up here with a note from Jerry saying, `Pack up my CDs and sports equipment and send them to me. I'll reimburse you for the shipping later. Nice knowing you. Signed Jerry'"
She swatted Jax's thigh. "Stop that. He would not do that."
Jax cocked his head and looked down at her. "It would not surprise me but you are probably right. Julia will probably throw him out after a few weeks and he will be back here for a time before he can convince her to take him back. Then he will be back at the loft for a few weeks and the whole pattern will start all over again. We will never be rid of him."
Brenda put her sunglasses back down over her eyes. "I will kill them both if that happens. It took months and months to get them this far and I am not about to see them mess it up now."
Jax laughed. "I am sure they will heed your warnings, sweetie. That is if and when you ever see them again."
Brenda rested her head back down on the chaise. "I expect them to be at the Quartermaine's this afternoon. Julia would not disappoint Lila and Jerry would not disappoint himself by missing an opportunity to go head to head with Edward. Besides, Jerry only had a few days of medication in the car when he left here on Saturday."
Jax nodded. "He will probably expect us to hand deliver it to him at Edward's this afternoon."
Brenda patted the chaise lounge beside her. "Come sit here. Jerry will be here before you know it. I know something is bothering you and if I didn't know better, I would think that you miss him."
Jax waved his hand. "I don't think so. I have seen him more in the past six months than I have in the past six years."
Brenda turned to face Jax. "I know and that is my point."
Jax sighed. "Sure I will miss him, I mean there is no one that I enjoy beating more at pinball or tennis than Jerry. I will have less time to get the better of him in everything but I am not upset that he will be spending less time here. I am glad that he has found some type of happiness."
Brenda's eyes expressed a look of concern. "Then what is it, honey? You have not been yourself for the past few days."
Jax slowly exhaled and looked soulfully at her. "I have been thinking about next weekend."
Brenda sat up. "You mean our anniversary?"
Jax swallowed hard. "Yes. I know last year we talked about spending every anniversary on the yacht but I don't think that is such a good idea now. I was thinking that maybe we could go to Venice or Fiji or anywhere else we have talked about going."
Brenda was totally confused. "Why? Why would you not want to spend our anniversary on the Isabella?"
Jax stood up and the anguished look on his face caused a wave of pain to shoot through Brenda's heart. "Brenda, I don't want you to do anything just because you think it pleases me. I don't expect you to change for me or be something that you are not."
Brenda shot up from the chaise lounge and walked over to Jax. She took his hand and they sat down on her chaise lounge together. "Jax, will you tell me what this is all about because I don't have a clue. Why would you ever think I would be planning to spend some time on the Isabella just to please you? Don't you know how much our time on that yacht has meant to me? We were married there and then last year we were making plans for Jillian and our future together."
Jax looked at Brenda and saw the concern and confusion in her eyes. "I know how much our time on the yacht meant to you. It meant the same to me and more. But that was before."
Brenda took Jax's hand in hers. "Before what?"
Jax exhaled slowly. "Before we found out about Miranda and her alias of Isabella. She knew about the name of the yacht because I had told her all about it. We were planning to leave Australia and then fly to the Mediterranean and sail away on the yacht to start our life together. Instead she used the name as an alias in an attempt to leave Australia without a trace. Then she shows up here and I spend months feeling guilty and catering to her every whim. I ignored your warnings and jeopardize our life together. Now after all that and what you know about her use of the name Isabella, I don't know how you can possibly want to go back to the yacht. How can it not be a constant reminder of all that?"
Brenda shook her head and stroked Jax's jawline. "I want to go back to the yacht because some of the happiest days of my life were spent there. I want to go because it was there where you first told me you loved me. It was where we made our vows to each another. It was there where I realized that you were the best thing that ever happened to me. I don't care about what your plans for it were or what happened on it before you came into my life. I don't care about the name or what someone else tried to do with it. Whatever occurred in the past can't touch what that boat means to me. I do not want you to spend another second worrying about how Miranda or your past with her may hurt me. They can't. Nothing can. You are here with me and our little girl now and that is all I care about."
Jax brushed a loose strand of hair away from Brenda's eyes. "You are one extraordinary woman, Mrs. Jacks."
Brenda smiled. "I was taught how to love by an extraordinary man and the rest fell into line. I do need to ask you one thing though."
Jax gazed at her. "What is that?"
Brenda cleared her throat. "I want you to be completely honest with yourself. After everything that has happened, can you feel comfortable on the Isabella again? If you can't, then we need to give her up now. I don't want you suffering a minute longer."
Jax kissed Brenda tenderly on the lips. "I can feel comfortable so long as you are. I buried the memories of my plans with Miranda on the Isabella years ago which is why I had no qualms about marrying you there. Our time on the yacht has a special place in my heart. You became my wife on the Isabella. It was there where you amazed me by cheating at cards to win back Kronos for us. It was where we first toasted to `our beautiful life together.' I was worried about your feelings about the yacht, I am fine. I won't let Miranda destroy one second of a memory I have with you."
Brenda smiled again. "Nor will I so we don't ever have to talk about this again. This year, we will have memories of Jillian's first sail on the yacht and our celebration of our second anniversary. It will be perfect."
Jax kissed Brenda's forehead and pulled her into his arms. "Yes, it will be perfect."
The french doors opened onto the terrace and Jerry walked out. He walked down the steps and headed toward the pool. When he reached Jax and Brenda, they were shaking their heads at him.
Jerry waved. "Hey kids."
Brenda smiled at him. "Hey yourself. Where is Julia?"
Jax chuckled. "Did she throw you out already? What has it been thirty hours?"
Jerry sat down on the chaise next to Brenda and Jax. "Not funny, Jax. I dropped her off at the hotel to pick up her car. She is going back to the loft and she will see you at the Quartermaine's later this afternoon."
Brenda giggled. "Picking up her car now. I guess you two did not have any time to leave the bedroom before now."
Jax laughed. "Oh, I doubt it was the bedroom."
Jerry shook his head. "Like you two are ones to talk."
Jax grinned at Jerry. "Yes, but we are young. Jerry, you are ancient. Poor Julia. I guess she caught up on some old movies on cable while you slept."
Brenda put up both her hands. "Jax, I think that is enough of this conversation" She then looked at Jerry. "Jerry, Jillian missed you. Why don't you go see her?"
Jerry ignored Jax's grin and walked over to the playpen and picked up Jillian who was sucking on a plastic book. "Hey Roo. Did you miss me?"
Jax laughed. "Of course not. She just has to look at a Curious George book to see your picture. Well, except for that skid mark on the side of your head. I guess since the hair is finally growing back, it is not a skid mark. Maybe a tire track in the dirt with a few weeds growing in it."
Jerry looked at Jillian. "Sorry Roo but I have to go kill your father now. You won't miss him, you will have me."
Jerry handed Jillian to Brenda and grabbed the spritzer watering can which the gardener had left for the box gardens around the pool area. The can was really a small tank with a spritzer gun to spray the leaves of some of the plants. Jax jumped off the lounge chair and grabbed the spritzer can from the other side of the box gardens. Brenda scooted behind them to get Jillian out of the line of fire. They then began squirting each other. Of course Jax was wearing his swimming trunks. Jerry was not that much worse off as he had on a pair of shorts and a Polo shirt. Fortunately, he had a few changes of clothes in his gym bag in the car so he had been able to change at Julia's this morning.
Brenda shook her head at the antics of the brothers as she stood up on the terrace. Jax and Jerry were taking cover behind the block gardens, large potted trees and stone wall areas around the pool. Brenda was only worried about somebody getting hurt. "Be careful you two. Jerry, those ribs have not healed yet."
Jerry ran out of water first but calculated that Jax had to be close to empty as well. A spray in the face would mean instant victory. Jerry decided to risk running to the pool to refill. When he did, Jax came from around the box garden in an attempt to get a direct hit. Jax reached him just as Jerry had finished refilling. Jerry turned to zap Jax but his shoe slipped on the wet concrete and he began to fall backwards toward the water. Brenda screamed fearing for Jerry's ribs and Jax dropped his spritzer so that he could grab Jerry with both hands. As he did, Jax's own weight shifted forward which only sent him into Jerry causing them both to fall into the pool.
Brenda ran down the steps back to the pool. Fortunately Jerry had been able to turn sideways before he hit the water and Jax had been able to break Jerry's fall to some extent since Jax's arms hit the water before anything else. They both surfaced together.
Jax grabbed Jerry's arm. "Are you all right?"
Jerry took a deep breath. "As long as Julia does not show up, I think I will live."
Brenda put Jillian back into the playpen and grabbed some towels as Jax pulled himself out of the water and then helped Jerry out. Brenda took one of Jerry's hands and led him to the lounge chair.
She dried Jerry's head and arms off with the towel. "Are you sure you are all right?"
Jerry coughed and grimaced as his ribs reminded him they were still there. "No, I guess my face hit the water first so I lost."
Jax laughed and Brenda just shook her head. "Jerry, we need to get you inside and be sure you did not open up any of those cuts. You could have really been hurt." Then she looked at Jax. "You both could have."
Jerry coughed again. "Stop worrying. Now I really know you and Julia are related. These little games often result in some minor scrapes. You have to expect it with the Jacks boys."
Jax shrugged. "He is right, honey. This is nothing."
Brenda rolled her eyes. "Jax, if this is the case, then I think I want to stick to having daughters rather than sons. I don't think I can handle more than two Jacks boys at a time."
Jax helped Jerry to his feet and then took Brenda's hand. "I have no doubt that you will be able to handle whatever life presents to us."
Jerry grinned at her. "Yes, Jax and I will be around to teach the boys everything."
Brenda shook her head and went to get Jillian from the playpen. "Now I am certain I only want daughters."
Jax and Jerry laughed and Brenda watched them head up the steps to the terrace. Jax helped Jerry up each step and Brenda sighed. The Jacks men were royal pains at times and would do their best to try the patience of saint. Part of her wanted to shake both of them and tell them to grow up. However, there was something so special in that competitive, rebellious relationship of theirs. They truly respected and revered each other and Brenda knew that one would fight to his death to save the other. It made her want to hug them and love them all the more. Brenda sighed, it was just another average day around the Jacks house.
The Quartermaine Estate -- 3:00pm
It was the typical Quartermaine holiday gathering. Catering stations were set up throughout the grounds and terraces with plentiful food and drink. The tennis courts and pool areas were in full use as well as the horseshoe and volleyball pits. Thanks to L&B Records, music could be heard throughout the grounds. Most of Port Charles was in attendance as usual.
Lois, Brenda and Robin had spread out blankets near the volleyball pit and Brooke and Jillian were playing as Lois and Brenda watched the game. Jax, A.J., Jason, Jerry, Mac and Ned were playing a game of three on three. Robin was heading back to Yale later this afternoon but she had enjoyed her weekend home for Lucy's wedding.
Robin handed Jillian a toy. "She is so adorable. I love the hat."
Brenda waved at the baby. "This sun is so strong and I don't want her head to get burned. She is so coated with suntan lotion everywhere else that I am surprised she is not sliding across the blanket.
Lois nodded. "I know, Brooke is in the same condition."
Robin laughed as Jillian positioned herself in the middle of the blanket on her knees and hands and rocked. "I see she hasn't quite figured it out yet."
Brenda shook her head. "No, she has not discovered what happens when she moves her knee and hand at the same time. She is still stuck in the starting gate."
Lois smiled at the baby. "She will and then life as you know it is over."
Brenda nodded. "I know. She is already such a mischief maker. This week she rolled over to the fichus plant and decided the dirt belonged on the carpet in the den and not in the pot."
Robin giggled. "You mean she gets into trouble, I can't imagine where she learned that from."
Lois laughed. "Me neither."
Brenda sighed. "Yes, Jax is such a terrible influence."
Lois shoved Brenda in fun and everyone laughed. Then the ladies snickered as they looked over to the volleyball game where Mac was rising to his feet from the bottom of the pit spitting sand from his mouth.
Brenda cleared her throat. "Well, I guess that was a game for Jax, Jason and A.J."
Lois rolled her eyes. "Great, I'll be hearing about this from Ned for the next two days."
Robin shook her head. "I can't believe Jason is even playing but I think Uncle Mac goaded him into it."
Brenda nodded. "Jax helped with all his talk of the young against the over the hill gang. You know that old sibling and family rivalry is too much to pass up."
Lois waved to Ned as the guys started another game. "Speaking of siblings, where is Julia?"
Brenda looked at her watch. "I am not sure. I expected her here by now but it is probably good that she is not here right now. I don't think she would be happy to see Jerry diving in the volleyball pit."
Robin looked toward the pool. "Too late, Julia is over by the pool talking to Lila."
Brenda looked up and saw Julia walking toward them. Brenda then picked up Jillian and sat the baby in her lap. "Sweetheart, here comes Aunt Julia and you are going to help keep her away from Uncle Jerry right now."
Julia walked over to the group. "Good afternoon everyone."
Lois raised her paper cup. "Welcome. Come sit with us."
Robin smiled. "Yes, we have plenty of food here and there is iced tea in the cooler next to Lois."
Julia sat down. "Thanks, it is such a beautiful day for this party." Julia then heard Jerry's voice and her eyes moved to the volleyball pit. She then looked at Brenda. "What does he think he is doing?"
Brenda waved her hand as if to say there was nothing to worry about. "He is just involved in a friendly little volleyball game."
Julia looked at the pit again as Jax spiked the ball over the net right at Ned's head. "Somehow that game looks nothing like a friendly little game."
Brenda handed Jillian to Julia. "Jillian wants to say hello. Do you see she is wearing the sundress you gave her?"
Julia hugged the baby but glanced over at the game again and saw A.J. and Jason collide and fall into the net.
Lois opened up the cooler. "How about something to drink, Julia?"
Julia's eyes were glued to the activity at the pit. "Not right now thanks."
Brenda moved so that she was sitting next to Julia. "Julia, he is just having some fun. I have been watching him and he is taking it easy. He will be all right. You have to let him be Jerry."
Julia kissed Jillian and then sat the baby down on the blanket with her toys. "I know but it does not make it any easier."
Lois and Robin looked at each other. "I am going to get some fruit for the girls, does anyone need anything?"
Julia shook her head. "No thanks."
Brenda smiled. "I'll watch Brooke for you."
Robin stood up. "I'll give you a hand, Lois."
Lois and Robin walked toward the terrace and Brenda turned to Julia. "How are you?"
Julia shook her head. "I am great except for worrying about some idiot in a volleyball pit."
Brenda put her arm around Julia. "You look happier than I have ever seen you even though the idiot is in the volleyball pit."
Julia laughed. "I am and it is scary and exhilarating and confusing all at the same time."
Brenda was beaming. "Welcome to the wonderful world of love and romance."
Robin and Lois returned and everyone ate and watched the final game of the volleyball match. The plans for the weekend were also discussed.
Lois handed Brooke pieces of pineapple and then spoke to Brenda. "So, you have made all the necessary arrangements?"
Brenda nodded. "Yes, everything is set. I had a scare this morning but it has been resolved."
Julia looked at Brenda. "And Jax does not suspect anything?"
Brenda shook her head. "No, it helped that he was in Hong Kong most of last week so I could plan without him around."
Robin sighed. "It sounds so wonderful. I am just sorry that school will prevent me from being with you all."
Brenda patted Robin's hand. "I wish you could be there but I promise we will get you there on one of your breaks."
A cheer rang out in the pit as A.J., Jax and Jason gave each other high fives. Game three had gone to the young studs as they named themselves and they had beaten the old men two games to one. The men walked over to the blankets still arguing over an out call at an integral point in the third and final game.
Ned walked over to Lois. "We were robbed."
A.J. laughed. "You lost Ned, face it."
Jax grinned. "We won fair and square."
Jerry shook his head. "I would not exactly say that. Who is the one who constantly spiked the ball at my feet so I would have to dive with bad ribs?"
Jax shrugged. "You have to play to your opponent's weaknesses and fortunately for me, you have many."
Mac waved his hand. "I am going to go find Felicia before heads get any bigger over here."
Robin stood up. "Jason and I will come with you. We have to get ready to say good-bye to everyone."
Everyone said good-bye to Robin and Jason. Brenda promised to call Robin over the weekend to let her know how the surprise went. Then A.J. left to find Keesha and Ned and Lois and Brooke went to the pool area to spend some time with Emily.
Jerry sat down next to Julia. "Hey, are you enjoying yourself?"
Julia shook her head at him. "Yes, the volleyball pit provided some moments."
Jerry kissed her on the cheek. "I am fine. I gave up points by deciding not to dive out of bounds a few times."
Julia rolled her eyes. "I guess I should be thankful for small favors."
Jerry nodded. "Exactly. Now how about some real fun?"
Julia raised her eyebrow. "What do have in mind?"
Jerry grinned at her. "I want to go over and jerk Eddie's chain again. He already accused me of drugging you to force you to spend time with me. Now, I am going to go drop a few hints about my interest in his satellite subsidiary. It will set him off for the rest of the day."
Julia could not suppress a grin from appearing on her face. "Jerry, this is his party. Do you really think that is a good idea?"
Jerry laughed. "It is the perfect time. I would love for him to throw me out. Let's go find the old goat."
Julia shook her head as Jerry helped her to her feet. It was starting. She was caught in his web with no way to get out, not that she wanted to anyway. Her life was never going to be the same.
Jax grabbed some iced tea from the cooler and sat beside Brenda. Jillian sat in front of them in the middle of the blanket. "Did you see me out there?"
Brenda laughed. "Yes, you are a little hard not to notice."
Jax shook his head. "The old geezers did not have a chance."
She smiled at him. "I am glad to see you are taking your victory so well."
Jax winked at her. "Why not? It was hard fought and well deserved. Besides to the victor, goes the spoils."
Brenda folded her arms in front of her. "And what might that be?"
Jax put down his cup and brought his hand to her face. "This."
Jax covered her lips with his and then moved his hand to cradle the back of her head as he eased Brenda onto the blanket. She moaned as he deepened the kiss. Brenda opened one eye to check on Jillian and then suddenly started swatting Jax's shoulder.
Brenda rose from the blanket and Jax gave her a look of confusion as he pulled away from her. "Brenda.."She interrupted him and pointed toward the center of the blanket. "Look at her."
Jax turned around and there was Jillian on all fours. She was in mid-stride as she had moved her left arm and knee forward but her right side had not followed suit. It was if she was stuck in between gears.
Brenda clapped her hands together. "Come to Mommy, precious."
Jillian started rocking which only caused her arms to collapse and her head hit the blanket. Jax and Brenda laughed at the look on the baby's face when she lifted her head again.
Jax put his arms out toward her. "Come on, you can do it."
Jillian was back on all fours again and she moved her left arm and knee forward again. Jax and Brenda coaxed her with toys and words. After a few moments, Jillian moved her right arm and knee. Brenda clapped for her again and Jillian laughed. Jillian moved forward again and in three more strides, she reached Brenda's arms.
Brenda lifted her up in the air. "What a good girl. Mommy and Daddy are so proud of you and we love you so much."
Jax took the baby and kissed her. "Princess, you are Daddy's little champ."
Jax sat the baby in his lap and Brenda leaned against him. Jax wrapped his arm around Brenda and Jillian looked at them both and started babbling and clapping her hands together. It was a glorious day and a time for celebration. For that moment, they were the only three people in the world and life could not have been any better.
Sunday, May 31, 1998
The Jacks Residence -- 9:00am
Jax and Virgil were loading the limo with the bags for the trip. Brenda was in the living room writing a note for Corrine at the desk. Jillian was sitting on the floor playing with one of her kangaroos. Brenda finished the note just as the grandfather clock in the foyer struck 9:00am. Brenda sighed. It was 9:00am, May 31, 1998. Brenda's mind immediately flashed back to the same moment exactly two years before.
She had opened her eyes to seeing him buttoning up his pale gray shirt. It was wrinkled from being caught in the ran the night before. He had walked over to the bed and kissed her twice on the lips. She had asked him if he really had to go and he said yes because he had things to do and arrangements to make. She would never forget the next few lines of their conversation that morning.
"Don't you know what day this is?"
"I usually figure it out after about two cups of coffee."
"Then I'll tell you. It's either our wedding day or the last day you'll ever see me."
Brenda sighed as she sat at the desk. It was almost as unbelievable now as it was then. She remembered thinking he was crazy and being totally unfair to himself. She heard his words again, "Look at yourself, look at this place. You live like a hostage. To what? To something that is over and done with."
Brenda looked at Jillian playing on the floor and the memories of that morning continued to flood her mind. His words echoed in her head. "Here I am telling you the door is open, you're free to begin the rest of your life and it's a bigger and better life than you ever dreamed of. All you can do is stand there and say, wait, is that what I want, which is a question only you can answer."
She could hear Jax's voice as if he were standing right beside her. "I'm the only man who will ever make you happy. You have to decide whether you want to be. My jet leaves at 3. Tomorrow morning we could be watching the sunrise over the Mediterranean as man and wife. I'll see you at 3... or not."
Brenda stood up from the desk chair. Jillian remained content on the floor. Brenda walked around the living room as her mind took her back to later that day.
The cab had pulled up to the airport entrance at 2:50pm. She handed the driver the fare and slid the bag off the seat as she exited the cab. She headed to the terminal which was used for the departing flights of private aircraft. She remembered the bag rubbing against her right leg as she carried it through the terminal. Brenda did not even remember what she packed -- some warm weather clothes since somewhere in the fog of this morning she thought she had heard something about the Mediterranean. She had nothing appropriate for a wedding in her closet so she had thrown her short white cocktail dress with the criss-cross straps and a pair of white sandals into the bag. Brenda did not even know how she had made the decision to come, one minute she was thinking she had been dreaming and the next minute she was packing. She had spoken to no one except the taxi dispatcher since Jax had left her shortly after 9:00am.
Brenda remembered almost bumping into a luggage handler as she passed the first gate of the private aircraft terminal. She was caught up in thought and oblivious to her surroundings. She realized as she approached the middle gates of the terminal that she was calm. She was not panicking like she imagined she would be. In fact, she felt more serene as she passed each gate and headed toward the second to last gate in the terminal from where the Jacks aircraft was scheduled to depart. She was now completely focused on her surroundings. A large group of people passed her and as soon as the crowd dispersed, she saw the gate number and she saw him. It was 3:00 and he was there.
He showed no indication that he had seen her. She saw him speaking to his pilot and she smiled. He looked so handsome in his jeans, blue oxford and cream colored blazer. She could see that the blonde highlights of his hair were glistening as the sunlight shining through the windows As she approached him, the pilot walked away and Jax picked up his briefcase. He turned to head toward the gate.
Her arm was killing her from carrying the bag but she hurried toward him. "Wait."
Brenda remembered that he had looked hopeful yet uncertain when he saw her standing before him. After they greeted each other, she had told him that she had something to say to him. He had nodded and asked her to tell him.
Brenda took a deep breath. "It's not much but it's a lot more than I could say this morning. I know what I'm doing."
Jax had flashed her a huge smile. "Good. That's a start."
Brenda remembered dropping her bag and he hearing Jax drop his briefcase. Their lips came together in perfect unison. She had wrapped her fingers in the back of his hair and grabbed the lapel of his jacket as she drank in his sweet kisses.
Brenda slowly exhaled and looked down at Jillian and smiled. Two years ago she had walked through the open door and had begun the rest of her life. Jax was right, it had been a bigger and better life than she had ever dreamed of.
Brenda turned her head and caught sight of the yacht on the mantel and she immediately smiled. She lifted up Jillian from the floor and walked over to the mantel. Brenda picked up the yacht and sat down on the couch with Jillian. Jillian reached for the yacht.
Brenda grasped Jillian's hand in hers. "No precious, we can't touch this yet. When you get a little older, Mommy will let you hold it. This is one of Mommy's most treasured possessions in the whole world."
Brenda thought back to the day when Jane had placed the yacht in her hand. It was at the front door of the house in Alaska as she and Jax prepared to leave the homestead to head back to Port Charles to begin their married life. Jane had handed her the yacht and explained that it was being retired from the Jacks' Hit game in honor of the day Brenda was welcomed into the family.
Brenda smiled as she turned the yacht back in forth in her hand and Jillian eyed it intently. She then remembered placing the yacht on the mantel of the penthouse and then on the mantel in the living room in this house. It was the first thing that Brenda unpacked after Jax had carried her over the threshold of both homes. Home was wherever the yacht was.
Jax walked into the living room and saw Brenda staring at the yacht in her hands. "Hey Mrs. Jacks."
Brenda looked up and smiled. "Hi, are we ready?"
Jax nodded. "Yes." He then walked to the couch. "Reminiscing again?"
Brenda sighed. "Yes, it seemed the perfect day for it."
Jax sat down next to her and Brenda handed him the yacht. "Yes, it is."
Brenda turned to him. "Thank you giving me a home and a bigger and better life than I ever dreamed of."
Jax put the yacht on the coffee table and caressed Brenda's cheek. "Brenda, thank you for giving me a home and a bigger and a better life than I ever dreamed of."
Jax took Jillian from Brenda and they both got up from the couch. Brenda put the yacht back on the mantel and then picked up Jillian's kangaroo and diaper bag. Jax put his arm around Brenda and they walked to the front door. Brenda looked around and smiled and then they walked out the front door to begin their trip to the Mediterranean to start their anniversary celebration. It was going to be an extraordinary day.
The Isabella -- 9:00pm
Jax was standing on the deck watching as the sun set over the Mediterranean. It was so peaceful. Brenda walked up the steps and saw Jax standing on the deck. The sky behind him was painted with pink, orange and blue. He turned around when he heard her approach and she caught her breath at the sight of him with the backdrop of the sunset.
Brenda smiled. "Hello handsome."
Jax gave her a lopsided grin. "Hey gorgeous."
Brenda walked over to him. "The nursery is beautiful. You thought of everything."
Jax took her hand and they sat on the bench. "Is she sleeping?"
Brenda nodded. "Yes. Of course it is the middle of the afternoon for her so I expect her to wake up shortly and then be up half the night."
Jax put his arm around Brenda. "We will all stay up and celebrate. We can all see the sunrise together."
Brenda moved into his lap. "I am sure it will be beautiful but no sunrise could be more beautiful than the first one I saw here with you."
Jax smiled. "That is true but we will take a picture and add it to the photo album."
Brenda laughed. "I can see it now, forty years from now we will have an entire album dedicated to sunrise pictures taken on the Isabella from the morning after our wedding anniversary. That will be a big hit with the guests. Everyone will really think we are nuts."
Jax shrugged. "Let them. Are you sure you don't want to start sailing now rather than in the morning?"
Brenda nodded. "Tomorrow is perfect. We will just stay a few miles from shore tonight and then we will start our voyage tomorrow."
"Are you hungry? Ari really went overboard with the food stock. You would think we were feeding a dozen people. We don't have to deal with that for a few days until Thao and the gang arrive."
Brenda wrapped her arms around Jax's neck. "I will let you in on a little secret. I asked Ari to prepare us a very special romantic dinner that we can have in the moonlight."
Jax grinned. "Oh, I see."
Brenda gazed at Jax. "Yes I thought we should get dressed up and celebrate in style. I even brought a new dress for Jillian to wear for the occasion."
Jax cleared his throat. "And.."
Brenda gave him a look of confusion. "And what?"
Jax tilted his head to look up at her. "And did we buy a new dress for someone else?"
Brenda gave him a look of indignation. "You mean me?"
Jax laughed at her. "Yes, you, not that you need an excuse to buy a new dress but I am just curious."
Brenda swatted his hand. "No, I did not buy a new dress for tonight, wiseguy. Trust me, you will recognize the dress I will be wearing."
Jax chuckled again. "Whatever you say, sweetie."
Brenda's mouth flew open. "What is that supposed to mean?"
Jax grinned at her. "It means that there is no need to change your plans for the dress you intended to wear tonight. It is not going to matter to me that I see the new dress on you later in the week when Thao and the entourage arrive. You may as well wear it tonight."
Brenda tried to get off Jax's lap but his grip prevented her from doing so. "I am telling you I do not have a new dress with me. I will go bring you everything from my suitcase to prove it."
Jax wrapped his arms around Brenda. "Sweetie, I'm sorry. It does not matter if you have a new dress or not. I was just teasing you. If you say you don't have a new dress then I believe you. Do you forgive me?"
Brenda folded her arms in front of her. "I don't know."
Jax took her hands in his and kissed them. "I am sorry, baby. Since you went out shopping for the trip and bought a dress for Jillian, I just thought you would have picked up a dress for yourself. I am sorry that I upset you."
Brenda sighed. "Well, actually I did buy a dress." She then put her hand in front of Jax's mouth. "Before you say anything, mister, I bought a dress for the Nurses Ball next month not for this trip. Since there could be some room for debate here, you are forgiven."
Jax laughed and kissed Brenda's hands again. "Thank you sweetie. I am sorry and I love you."
Brenda rested her head against Jax's forehead. "I am sorry too. I love you."
An hour later, the moon lit the sky, casting moonbeams down on the dark water. Jillian was awake and Brenda looked at her watch. Ari stood on the steps below and motioned to Brenda. Brenda nodded in acknowledgment.
Brenda walked to the bench where Jax was sitting with Jillian. "Honey, why don't you go take a shower and get changed. I will take her now and then I'll get dressed when you are finished. I laid out your tuxedo for you on the bed."
Jax kissed Jillian and handed her to Brenda. He then kissed Brenda. "Okay, I will see you both shortly."
A few minutes after Jax went to the cabin, Brenda saw the lights of the boat heading toward the yacht. She put Jillian in the playpen on deck and walked toward the stern to check on the preparations. Ari and Dimitri were there readying the yacht for the guests' arrival.
A few minutes later, Brenda lifted Jillian from the playpen and walked to the stern to greet everyone. John, Jane, Jerry, Julia, Ned, Lois, Brooke, Paolo, the Contessa, Thao and Augustin boarded the yacht. Everyone was dressed in formal attire and looked wonderful. All the guests moved to the deck as Dimitri unloaded everyone's overnight bags into the staterooms. Champagne was served and Dimitri gave Brenda the sign that Jax was on his way up to the deck. The guests moved to the back of the deck and waved at Jax when he came up the stairs.
Jax shook his head and greeted the guests. He then walked over to Brenda and kissed her.
He whispered into her ear. "So this is your idea of a romantic moonlit dinner?"
Brenda giggled. "They are all only staying for two nights. After Tuesday, we will be alone until the gambling party later in the week."
Jax hugged Brenda. "Thank you for this. It really is a wonderful surprise. Now I know why you really wanted me to get into this tux."
Brenda ran her hand down the lapel of the white jacket. "You look so incredible."
Jax grinned. "I was surprised to see that you packed this tuxedo for me. I have not worn this since we were married."
Brenda smiled. "I know but I thought it would be appropriate for tonight."
Jerry walked over to them. "Excuse me but there are other people here. You two really need some help."
Jax punched Jerry in the arm. "So glad you are here to be the rain on the parade."
Jax walked over to Ned and Lois. "Before this evening gets too far gone, happy anniversary to both of you. I really appreciate you giving up your day to help Brenda and I celebrate ours."
Lois smiled. "You are welcome but we should also be thanking you. Since we are in this part of the world, we are going to Italy on Tuesday to visit my relatives in Milan and Naples. My parents are meeting us and are going to take care of Brooke for a few days so we can take a trip to Venice for a second honeymoon."
Jax grinned. "That is great. I am sure you will have a great time."
Ned took a sip of champagne. "We will once we get away from the crazy relatives."
Lois elbowed Ned. "Stop."
Ned shook his head. "Gloria already warned me about them, Lois. They can't believe you did not marry an Italian. You are probably being disowned as we speak and there is probably some Mafia hit out on me already."
Lois let out an exasperated sigh. "Jax, how deep is this water?"
Jax looked at Lois. "Here it is probably only about sixty feet deep."
Lois tapped her fingernails against the deck railing and looked over the side. "I wonder how long someone can tread water?"
Jax chuckled and left Ned and Lois to debate the antics of her extended family. Jane was playing with Jillian and Brooke as John spoke to Jerry and Julia. Brenda was talking with the European contingent.
Jax walked up and put his arms around Brenda. "Thao, are you trying to convince my wife to run off with you again?"
Thao shook his finger in the air. "I am telling you that one day she will."
Augustin laughed. "Yes, when Hell freezes over."
The Contessa looked over at Jerry and Julia. "Jax and Brenda, I see your brother and sister have finally worked out their problems."
Jax sighed. "For today but one never knows about tomorrow."
Thao shook his head. "Another woman aboard who fails to see that I am a better man for her."
Paolo patted Thao on the back. "Have you tried nursing homes? Maybe someone there will actually believe that."
Jax raised his glass. "Or insane asylums?"
Jane walked over to the group with Jillian and Brenda took the baby into her arms. "Jillian, can you say hello to everyone?"
The Contessa took Jillian's hand. "She is so beautiful. She looks just like you, Brenda."
Brenda kissed the baby. "Thank you. She still has her Daddy's deep blue eyes though."
Jax looked at his watch and spoke to the group. "Excuse us for a minute." Jax and Brenda walked over to the corner of the deck. "Brenda, I will take her. You have not even had the chance to get changed yet."
Brenda passed Jillian to Jax. "Thanks. I guess it is time."
Jax look at Brenda. "Does Ari know when you plan to serve dinner?"
"Yes, and he can talk to Julia if he has any questions. I will be back shortly."
Jax saw a look pass between Julia, Lois and Brenda as Brenda descended the stairs. He brushed it off knowing that there always seemed to be some type of knowing look pass between the three women. It was almost as if they spoke in some type of code all the time. He had stopped trying to figure it out months ago so there was no sense wondering about it now. Brenda had given him a wonderful evening and he was just going to enjoy it.
The Isabella -- 11:30pm
Lois saw the lights of a boat off in the distance and looked at her watch. She then walked over to Jax.
"Jax, have you seen Brenda?"
Jax turned around to face Lois. "No, I have not seen her since she went to the room to get dressed."
Lois put down her champagne glass on the table. "I think I will go look for her in case she needs some help."
Lois crossed the deck and gave Jerry a signal before she descended the stairs. Jerry walked over to Jax and John.
Jerry smacked Jax on the back. "So, you managed to pull the wool over her eyes for another year so she is still with you. I am really beginning to doubt Brenda's sanity."
Jax took a sip of champagne. "Are your doubts supposed to worry me because guess what, they don't."
Jerry shook his head. "You can admit it, Jax, what are you blackmailing her with?"
John snickered at Jax's expression and Jax took a deep breath. "Jerry, Lois wants you and Ned to participate in a treading water experiment. I think I will go find her and tell her you are ready."
Jerry laughed. "Come on Jax, we are family. I just want to know how you have convinced Brenda to stay with a big lug like you. I mean it can't be the money because she could just take you to the cleaners in a divorce action. What jewelry heist is she responsible for?"
Jax laughed. "Just admit it, you are jealous. Julia will come to her senses any day now and you will be sleeping with that stuffed teddy bear again."
Jerry saw the boat lights quickly approaching and moved closer to Jax in order to block his view. "I am not jealous. Like I have said before, I don't want to be a Ken doll."
At that moment Lois walked up the steps and hurried over to Jax. "Jax, I'm sorry to interrupt but Brenda needs you in the room."
Jax's eyes showed a look of concern. "Is something wrong?"
Lois shook her head. "No, there is just a problem with the lock on bathroom door."
Jax headed downstairs and Lois gave a thumbs up signal to Julia and Jane across the deck. Meanwhile Jerry and John went to the stern to greet the final guest of the evening.
Jax hurried down the corridor and Ari and Dimitri quickly began moving items up on deck. Jax opened the state room door and Brenda was standing by the window. Moonlight was streaming through it and basking her in a glow of light. She was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
Jax stopped in his tracks. "My God, you look like an angel."
Brenda walked toward him. "You picked it out for me."
Brenda looked even lovelier than she had when he had first seen her in the dress two years ago. She wore her hair in the same style as she had two years before with soft curls framing her face. Jax had seen her in the dress with a satin jacket added in Bensonhurst for the Valentine's Day wedding at St. Vincent's but it was not the same. He was overwhelmed now as he saw her in the dress in the place where they were first married.
Jax swallowed hard. "There are no words to convey what I am feeling right now."
Brenda lifted her palm to his face. "You don't need to say anything. I can see it in your eyes. But this night is not for me, it is for you. Your family never was able to celebrate with us so this party will give them their chance."
Jax turned his face into her palm and kissed it. "Brenda, you are amazing."
She smiled. "I just wanted to tell you how much I love you before we join everyone again. I never thought it was possible to love someone this much but I do. Every hour of every day, you mean more to me."
Jax shook his head as he marveled at the sight before him. "I love you so much that some days I feel as if I have wings and could fly to the heavens. I could not live without you, you are my heart and my soul. I never thought this type of love was possible for me but I know I would be nothing without you."
Brenda took both of Jax's hands in hers and brought them both to her lips. "That was so beautiful. I promised myself that I was not going to cry tonight so I think we better get to our guests before I am crying into your shoulder."
"Not before this." Jax took her in his arms and lifted her feet off the ground as he fully kissed her lips. After a few moments, he released her lips and lowered her so that her feet touched the floor. Jax then offered her his hand and they left the state room to head to the deck to join the party.
As the ascended the stairs, John and Jane met them. Brenda beamed as she watched the expressions on Jax's face. Standing at the other end of the deck was Father Spiros, the Anglican minister who had married them two years before. There were candles and arrangements of white roses. A wedding cake sat on a table off to the side along with buckets of champagne. White rose petals covered the deck to create an aisle from the steps to the end of the deck where Father Spiros waited. Julia stood to the right of the minister and Jerry stood to the left. The other guests stood off to the sides. Lois held Jillian up to face Jax and Brenda. Jane handed Brenda a bouquet of white roses and John pinned a white rose boutonniere onto Jax's lapel. John and Jane joined the other guests and Ned flicked the power button on the CD player and "The Wedding March" began playing.
Jax smiled at Brenda and whispered to her. "I love you."
Brenda winked at him and whispered back. "How can you have a reception without a wedding?"
Brenda removed her wedding ring and handed it to Jax who then handed his to Brenda. They walked down the aisle and Father Spiros performed the traditional ceremony as Julia and Jerry served as maid of honor and best man. This time, he actually managed to pronounce both of Jax and Brenda's names correctly. After Father Spiros had pronounced them husband and wife and they had sealed their union with a kiss, Jax held out his hands to Jillian and Lois handed the baby to him. Jax carried the baby in his arms as he and Brenda walked back up the aisle. As they strolled up the aisle, the sound of a lone church bell could be heard throughout the night air. It was the bell from Father Spiros' church which Jax had purchased for the church after the first wedding. The church bell had been dedicated to Jax and Brenda.
Champagne was served after the ceremony and Jerry proposed a toast. "To Jax and Brenda, may your lives continue to be filled with love and happiness. May you have many joyful years together -- at least until Brenda regains her sanity and runs off with me."
Jane shook her head and Julia rolled her eyes while the rest of the guests laughed. Jax and Brenda ignored Jerry as usual.
Jerry then walked over to Jax and Brenda and put his arm around both of them. "How are you doing, kids? I was just speaking the truth in that toast."
Jax took a sip of champagne. "We understand just like we know you will understand about the changes in the sleeping arrangements."
Jerry looked at Jax. "What changes in the sleeping arrangements?"
Brenda smiled. "You and Julia are now in the room next to John and Jane."
Jax grinned. "Yes, and the walls are very thin. Also remember how much sounds echo on the water."
Brenda bit her tongue to keep from laughing. "We know you understand though?"
Jax slapped Jerry on the back. "Pleasant dreams, brother."
Jax and Brenda laughed as they left Jerry to join the other guests. Jane and Lois put Jillian and Brooke to bed as Jax and Brenda mingled with the guests. Dinner was served and the party continued. Once dinner was finished, the tables were cleared to make room for a dance floor. Jax and Brenda moved to the dance floor as everyone encircled them.
Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be
When our time has come, we will be as one
God bless our love
God bless our love
Brenda melted into Jax's arms as he wrapped his arms around her. She rested her head against his chest and sighed at the feel of his steadily beating heart. Jax rested his chin on Brenda's head and smiled at the feel of her in his arms. It was like heaven when he held her.
Grow old along with me, two branches of one tree
Face the setting sun, when the day is done
God bless our love
God bless our love
The guests then joined Jax and Brenda on the dance floor. John and Jane swayed to the music and their hearts were full. Their sons were both happy and looking forward to the future. It was all John and Jane had ever wanted for their children. Jerry held Julia close to him. It had taken quite a while but they knew they finally had a chance at real happiness.
Spending our lives together
Man and wife together
World without end
World without end
Ned kissed Lois' forehead as they moved across the dance floor. It had been a wonderful anniversary even if they were not spending it alone. They had come so far over the past six months and they both knew that they would find a way to stay together no matter what. Paolo and the Contessa twirled around the dance floor. They smiled as they celebrated their love and the love of their friends.
Grow old along with me, whatever fate decrees
We will see it through, for our love is true
God bless our love
God bless our love
Jax and Brenda gazed at one another as the music continued. Their lips united as the moonlight silhouetted them. It was as if time stood still. If the moment could have been frozen in time, it would depict the epitome of true love, the embodiment of two hearts beating as one and the symbol for the fusion of two souls. Jax and Brenda were all that and more.
God bless our love
God bless our love
Jax and Brenda were a dream come true, a storybook romance, and a one-of-kind love story. Their love and the love of those around them had hit highs and lows, brought laughter and tears and had undergone triumphs and trials. But in the end, love had won out for them all. Life and love had come full circle once more.
