Promises of the Future

Promises of the Future

The Jacks' Jet -- Noon

The jet was now flying somewhere over Canada on its way to the Jacks' homestead in Alaska. Jax and Brenda had left Kronos hours ago and Brenda had noticed that Jax seemed to be a bit apprehensive about seeing his parents again. She knew he had not fully accepted their role in the Miranda situation and wondered if Jax would ever be able to resolve his differences with his father concerning the business practices of J & J Jacks. Brenda silently cursed Miranda for her role in Jax's problems with his family -- it had been her decision to keep her survival a secret and now John and Jane were paying for their decision to abide by her wishes. Jax was also suffering -- everyone was -- except Miranda.

As Brenda noticed the far off look in Jax's eyes, she took his hand in hers, kissed it and then placed it on her stomach. "We are here for you, honey."

Jax immediately smiled. "I love you both very much." He then lowered his head and gently kissed her lips and then placed a kiss on her abdomen.

Brenda was still incredulous at the love he felt for her and their child. Before she went to sleep each night, Jax would tell her that he loved them both and then he would greet them both with a kiss each morning. She was so happy it scared her.

The Jacks' Homestead -- 3:00pm

Jane opened the door and found a beaming Jax and Brenda. She hugged and kissed them both and John descended the stairs. He warmly greeted Brenda and then waited for Jax to make the next move. Jax then hugged him bringing a look of relief to the faces of both Jane and Brenda. The four then took a seat in the living room where, over tea, Brenda and Jax proceeded to provide them with the details of the wedding and their visits to New York and Kronos.

Later, Brenda and Jax went to the guest room to change. Jane was preparing an early dinner since she knew they were exhausted from the all day trip and the various time changes. Jax was worried about Brenda but she told him she had gotten plenty of rest on the jet. They had decided to wait until after dinner to give his parents the news about the baby.

The Jacks' Homestead -- 7:00pm

The snow had started falling again as the two couples were finishing dinner. Brenda could not believe how much snow was already on the ground. The night air was cold and the winds were howling but the fireplace kept the room comfortable. After the dishes were cleared, everyone was enjoying mugs of hot chocolate as they sat before the fire.

Brenda was sitting in Jax's lap when Jax spoke up. "Mum and Dad, we have some news. Come the end of September, you are going to be grandparents."

John clapped his hands together. "Well done, you two. I can't wait to become a grandfather."

Jane stood up and hugged both Jax and Brenda. "I am thrilled for you both. You are going to make wonderful parents."

As they discussed the news, Jax looked over at Brenda and saw how tired she was. He told his parents they were heading off to bed and they would see them in the morning.

When they reached the bedroom, Jax helped Brenda change into her satin pajamas. A fire was roaring in the stone fireplace. Brenda snuggled beneath the down comforter and blankets and Jax pulled her into his arms. "Sweet dreams. I love you both." Brenda whispered back, "We love you very much," before she fell fast asleep while cradled in his arms.

The Jacks' Homestead -- 11:00am

Jax and Brenda had finished breakfast after getting a good night sleep. Jane remarked at how radiant Brenda looked and what a beautiful pregnant woman she was going to be. The weather forecast called for a clearing pattern within the next few days so Jax and John went to the hanger to check on the aircraft. Jax wanted to give Brenda a tour of Glacier Bay and the Jacks Island when the storms finally passed. Jane and Brenda sat before the fire to talk. Jane asked her how Jax was handling everything and Brenda admitted that he was still working things through concerning Miranda and the past.

"Brenda, I can't imagine how terrible this has been for both of you. I know it may be hard for you to believe, but John and I truly thought we were doing the best for Jax. Thank you for being so patient and for loving our son."

"Jane, your son is very easy to love. I believe you and John had the best of intentions, unfortunately I do not share the same feelings about Miranda. She still has a hold over him and I am afraid before this is all over, she is going to hurt him. Jax refuses to see this and I am afraid he is an easy prey for her manipulation, but I will not allow her to take advantage of him."

Meanwhile, John and Jax were discussing the state of affairs in Port Charles. Jax told John of Sonny's latest machinations and his manipulation of Brenda. He also informed John of Brenda's worries concerning Miranda and their past relationship.

"Son, you have a brave, beautiful wife who loves you and is now carrying your child. You have to let go of the past before it destroys your future."

"Dad, that is much easier said than done. I was married to Miranda and I loved her. I can't just forget that. And trust me, Sonny Corinthos is never going to let either Brenda or me forget about their past. He is trying to get her back, but he won't succeed."

The Jacks' Homestead -- 9:00pm

John, Jane, Jax and Brenda have just completed an intense game of Jacks' Hit. The women were paired up against the men and scored a resounding victory over John and Jax. Jax asked Brenda if she had cheated and she smacked him on the arm. Jane told him there was nothing worse than a poor loser. The phone then rang and John answered it to hear Jerry's voice on the other end. John handed Jax the phone so he could tell Jerry the news about the baby. Jerry congratulated Jax and then asked about Miranda. Jax nonchalantly provided him with a few details and he then looked to Brenda. Her face showed no reaction until he hung up the receiver and she flashed him a smile.

Later, as Jax and Brenda prepared for bed, he asked her if she was okay. "I am fine. I understand that your parents and your brother would be concerned about Miranda. I may not like it but I accept it."

Jax took her in his arms and lifted her chin so that Brenda was looking directly at him. "You are my wife, Brenda. I love you and we are going to spend the rest of our lives together." Jax lowered his head and his lips overtook hers. As their passion ignited, Brenda suddenly pulled away. "Are you sure you feel comfortable doing this with your parents in the room next door?"

Jax laughed at her. "Brenda, you are pregnant, remember? Trust me, my parents know we are sleeping together."

Brenda stood before him with her hands on her hips. "You think you are so funny, don't you?"

"No, I think you are, darling. Now come over here."

Brenda looked at him and shook her head. "Jax, I'm serious. How soundproof are these walls?"

Jax was smirking. "Well, you will just have to try to control yourself, Mrs. Jacks."

Brenda raised her eyebrow at Jax. "Me? You are the one who will have to control yourself, mister." Brenda then walked toward him and as he lifted her into his arms, she wrapped her legs around his waist. She surrendered her lips to his as they collapsed onto the bed. All control was lost as their bodies became one and their passion soared.

The Jacks' Homestead -- 1:00pm

The storms had returned and snow was expected for the next day or so. Fortunately, the weather had been clear the day before so Jax and Brenda were able to spend the day sightseeing. Jax had flown the Cessna over Glacier Bay and pointed out the various crystal formations to Brenda. The snow covered ground was so white that the reflection of the sun shining from it created an almost blinding glare. They also visited the Jacks' Island where Jax showed her the log cabin that he and Jerry used for their fishing and hunting expeditions. The cabin was too rustic for winter use but perfect for the late spring, summer and early fall months. That evening the skies has been perfectly clear so Jax and Brenda bundled up to witness the Northern Lights and the numerous stars as they danced across the galaxy.

Today, Brenda was again suffering with a bout of morning sickness so she has remained in bed for the morning. Jax and Jane were downstairs in the living room while John was in the den conducting some business. "Jax, tell me how things really are back in Port Charles."

"Mum, I know you are referring to Miranda, so just say it."

"Okay. What is the situation with Miranda? I know she has settled in Port Charles. How do you and Brenda feel about this?"

"I asked her to stay, Mum. I am still trying to deal with the past six years. I need her to be there in order to make sense of all this. I know that may be difficult for you to understand, it certainly is for Brenda, but this is the only way I know how to move on with my life. Miranda is also just trying to do the same."

"Dear boy, I know how confusing things have been for you as of late, but I also know how much you love Brenda. Please do not do anything to jeopardize that because if you do, you will regret it for the rest of your life. Remember things are not always as they seem and sometimes it is better just to leave things be."

"Mum, what are you trying to say?"

"Jax, I want you to concentrate on the future and not the past. You and Brenda have so much to be thankful for. You have a child on the way that will enrich your life in ways you can't even dream about at this point."

"I know how lucky I am. I never thought I would find this type of happiness again. Brenda and our daughter are the most important things in my life."

Jane smiled at him. "A daughter. Are you sure about that?"

"Well, I have no proof but I have a hunch. I see us with a daughter with the beauty, tenacity and free-spiritedness of her mother."

John then walked into the living room on his way up the stairs. As he passed the guest room, he peeked in to check on Brenda. She was awake and she asked him to come in. John entered the room and sat down at the foot of the bed. "How are you feeling, my dear?"

"Much better, thank you. It just comes on so quickly at times."

"It will pass in due time and you will be rewarded in the end with a beautiful baby. I hope you know how happy you have made my son. He has such a propensity for love, he will make a wonderful father."

"We are both overjoyed with this news, John, and I agree with you, Jax will be a terrific father to our son."

"A son, you say. Is this a mother's intuition speaking now or do you have some concrete information?"

"No, it is just a feeling. Every time I envision our child, I see a beautiful little boy who shares his father's handsome looks, sensitivity and sense of adventure."

"I want to thank you, Brenda, for being such a pillar of strength for my son. You gave him back his soul. You fought for him and never gave up and I will always be grateful for that."

"John, you advised me to fight for Jax when Miranda arrived in town. Jax dismissed the need for this; however, my intuition tells me Jax is still vulnerable to his past with her and that she will continue to manipulate him. What do you think about all this?"

"Well, let's just say that I have found intuitions to be generally correct."

The Jacks' Homestead -- 11:00pm

Jax and Brenda had settled in bed for the evening. She was in his arms and asked him if he had resolved any issues with his father.

"Brenda, I understand my father's desire to protect me, especially now with a child of my own on the way. The problem is that I could not be protected. The truth always manages to come out and in the end, the lies told to protect someone merely add to their pain."

As the night progressed, the winds intensified, knocking out the electricity in the house. John and Jane got up to light lanterns around the house. As John and Jane entered the guest room, Jax and Brenda were sound asleep in each other's arms. As she lit the room's lantern, Jane paused to look at the peacefully sleeping couple. She then whispered to John. "They have to make it. The pain he suffered over the past six years can't have been for nothing. Jax has finally found someone who is truly committed to him and worthy of his love. He can never know the truth about the past, it would kill him."

Friday, March 7, 1997
The Jacks' Homestead -- 2:00pm

Jax and Brenda were enjoying their last day in Alaska. They would be departing later that evening for Port Charles. Brenda had called Dr. Meadows to make an appointment for Monday morning. She had also called Lucy to set up a meeting for Monday afternoon. She wanted Lucy to know as soon as possible about the pregnancy so adjustments and pre-planning could be made to the promotional schedules. She was not sure how Lucy was going to take the news.

The weather was clear so Brenda and Jax were ice skating on the pond. Jax was keeping a protective watch on her who was amused at his paranoia.

"Jax, I promise I will not try any triple axels. Good grief, I am pregnant not an invalid."

"I just want you to be careful, Brenda."

"I happen to be a very good skater. You are the one that has to be careful and not break your neck."

"I will have you know that I am an excellent skater. I can skate rings around you."

"Well that's a challenge if I ever heard one, Mr. Jacks." She then snatched the glove from his hand and skated off. Jax skated after her. He was surprised at how at home she seemed on the ice. She was laughing at him but he was now catching up to her. He came close enough to grab her but as he reached for her, she ducked under his arms and began skating in the opposite direction. She blew kisses at him as she waved his glove in the air. Her arrogant laughter was too much for him and he skated toward her with a vengeance. As he overtook her, his right skate slid out from under him and he lost his balance. Brenda was hysterical as she watched him slide across the ice. She skated over to him and he pulled her onto the ice with him. He rolled over on top of her and their eyes never broke contact.

"Jax, I love you so much it hurts. Tell me it will always be like this."

Jax noticed a look of fear in her eyes. "I love you and we are going to have a wonderful life together. Now tell me what is troubling you."

"It's been so perfect the past few weeks, almost like a fantasy. Now we have to go back to reality. Parts of me wish we never would go back."

"Brenda, we have discussed this. We both have pasts to deal with but we can't resolve anything by running away. We love each other and that will get us through anything. Trust me on this."

"I do trust you, Jax, and I know we can't run away. I know we have to go home and start our new life."

Luke's Club -- 8:00pm

Sonny was sitting at the bar as Mike watched him from behind the bar. "Do you have a problem, Mike?"

"No, Sonny. I was just wondering how you were."

"Don't concern yourself with me. Just worry about the paying customers."

The door opened and Miranda walked in. She strolled up to the bar and sat next to Sonny. "How about buying a drink for a fellow member of the lovelorn society?"

Sonny smirked and asked Mike to get a glass of white wine for Miranda. As Miranda raised her glass to him, she stated, "Well, my trip to Port Charles certainly has netted me great results. I can never thank you enough, Mr. Corinthos, for bringing me to your fair city."

"Ms. Jameson, where is your fighting spirit? I am telling you this is not over."

"Sonny, they are married and off on some romantic honeymoon together. It's over."

"Miranda, they do not belong together. They will realize that and when it happens, we will be around to pick up the pieces. Trust me on this. I know Brenda better than she knows herself and she is fooling herself if she thinks she will be happy with boy wonder."

"Well, I do agree that they do not belong together. She is way too needy and selfish for him and she is going to hurt him."

"That's more like it. Here's to the day when they see what the rest of the world already knows."

The Jack's Homestead -- 9:00pm

Jax and Brenda had finished packing and were preparing for their return flight to Port Charles. They said their good-byes to John and Jane and Brenda was happy to see that Jax seemed less tense around his parents than when they had first arrived in Alaska for the visit. She knew it would take time but hopefully one day things would be back to normal for all of them. Both Jane and John had promised to visit to Port Charles soon as they know traveling will become more difficult for Brenda as the pregnancy progressed. Brenda promised to keep them updated on news from visits to the doctor. Jane also pled with Jax to try not to treat Brenda like an invalid.

Brenda and Jax headed off to the jet to make their way back to Port Charles to start their new life together. They both had realized that in order to face the future they would have to resolve their pasts.

Monday, March 10, 1997
Dr. Meadows' Office -- 11:00am

Jax sat in the waiting room as Brenda was examined by Dr. Meadows. The nurse then asked him to join Brenda in the examination room. As Jax entered the room, Dr. Meadows was listening to the baby's heartbeat. "We have a very strong heartbeat here." She then set up the Doppler equipment so that the heartbeat registered on the speaker. Suddenly Jax and Brenda hear the sound of their child's heartbeat amplified through the speaker. Jax gently squeezed Brenda's hand as tears silently rolled down her cheeks. Dr. Meadows left the examination room to give them some privacy and asked them to join her in her office when they were ready.

"It's really happening, Jax. We created a life that is growing inside me."

"Yes, this is real. Our child is going to be raised with more love than you can imagine."

They then met with Dr. Meadows who answered their questions and gave Brenda some prenatal vitamins and plenty of reading material concerning pregnancy and childbirth. The due date was computed as September 24th and Dr. Meadows scheduled an ultrasound for the end of the month when Brenda reached the end of her first trimester.

Jacks' Cosmetics -- 1:00pm

Brenda was waiting in Lucy's office while Lucy was dealing with a problem in the distribution department. Brenda was still on cloud nine from her visit to the doctor. Lucy entered the office exasperated about the incompetence of some people when she noticed Brenda's demeanor.

"Well, I see marriage -- or re-marriage or whatever you are calling it -- agrees with you."

Brenda smiled brightly. "You can say that again."

"Excellent. This aura of radiance will make for some great shots."

Brenda cleared her throat. "Lucy, I am here to talk about the next few campaigns and the possibility of pre-taping some ads."

"Okay, clue me in. Don't tell me you and Jax are going to take a six month tour around the world."

"No. I do not know how to tell you this except to come straight out with it. I'm pregnant."

Lucy was speechless for one of the few moments in her life as memories of Serena flooded her mind.

"Lucy, believe me this news was as much of a surprise to us as it is to you. I wanted to give you the news immediately so I can get as much work done as possible before I really start to show. I am thrilled with the news but am truly sorry for any problems my pregnancy will cause Jacks' Cosmetics."

Lucy composed herself. "Brenda, do not worry about anything. We will do what we have to do. Your baby is your priority now. I will figure something out on this end. Congratulations! This will be a time in your life that you will never forget."

Brenda was overwhelmed at Lucy's reaction. She told Lucy that she would not go public with the news until Lucy determined the best public relations angle. Brenda hugged her and told her she would be in touch about next week's appearance schedule. As Brenda headed out, Lucy told her to be sure to pass on her congratulations to Jax.

Police Headquarters --3:00pm

Jax and Mac were meeting when Detective Taggert entered Mac's office. Unfortunately, no leads had developed concerning the anonymous gifts. There had been no suspicious activity nor any gifts delivered while Brenda and Jax were traveling. Jax mentioned Sonny's name and quickly noted Detective Taggert's animosity toward Sonny. Jax informed both men that he still believed Sonny was behind the harassment. Detective Taggert promised he would fully investigate a possible Corinthos connection to the deliveries. After Detective Taggert exited, Jax told Mac that he was not going to stand for Brenda being harassed or her safety threatened. He then told Mac about the pregnancy. Mac was stunned and silently wondered about what Miranda's reaction would be when she heard the news. Jax asked Mac not to say anything about the pregnancy to anyone at this time as Brenda was waiting to go public until after Lucy had a chance to determine how the public relations department of Jacks' Cosmetics would handle the news. Mac promised to keep the news to himself and also promised to keep Jax advised on the status of the case.

The Penthouse -- 8:00pm

Jax and Brenda were enjoying Chinese carry-out for dinner. Brenda had told him about her meeting with Lucy and Jax filled her in on his discussions with Mac. Jax teased Brenda about her unnecessary apprehension concerning Lucy's reaction to the pregnancy. Jax got up from the table to get some ice from the kitchen and Brenda asked him to bring her the cottage cheese. Jax almost lost his appetite as she smothered her sweet and sour chicken with cottage cheese.

"You are not really going to eat that are you?"

"Of course I am. I am not asking you to eat it so I suggest you button your lip. Besides, it's a dairy product."

Jax rolled his eyes at her as she smirked at him.

Later, they were in bed and Brenda was curled up in his arms with her head on Jax' chest. "I can feel your heart beating. It is so strong and steady."

"Brenda, believe me it is not steady when you are this close to me. It skips a beat every time you touch me."

"We will just have to put that theory to the test." Brenda then put her hand over Jax's heart as her lips enveloped his. She grinned as felt his heart racing.

"Let this be a lesson to never doubt me, Mrs. Jacks."

"Lesson learned, sir."

Jax then took her into his arms and kissed her. As their kisses become more demanding, their passion soared as they surrendered their hearts to each other.

Wednesday, March 12, 1997
The Outback -- 2:00pm

Miranda and Felicia were discussing the seating for the dinner crowd when Mac came into the restaurant. He had been stuck at headquarters for the past 48 hours dealing with the drug infiltration problem. The problem had become worse over the past few weeks and the police were losing the turf war. Felicia told him he looked tired but he just shrugged it off. At that point, Sonny and Jason walked through the door.

Sonny walked over to the group and said he needed a favor from Mac. "You and the rest of the world, Corinthos. I've got drug trafficking, the Cassidine/Spencer mess, and Jax breathing down my neck so you will just have to stand in line."

At the mention of Jax's name, Miranda's interest in the conversation was piqued as she asked, "You saw Jax? Is he all right?"

"Yes, I saw him earlier in the week and he's fine. He is just concerned about Brenda."

Sonny looked concerned. "What about Brenda? Has something happened?"

"Nothing has happened. Jax just wants to make sure it stays that way. Now what do you want, Sonny?"

Sonny and Mac moved away from the bar area. "I want you to get Taggert off my back, Mac. The guy has crossed the line and his actions are bordering on harassment."

"Sonny, he is doing his job -- deal with it. Just don't give him anything he can use against you."

"Yeah, whatever. So what's the story with Jax?"

"Sonny, let Jax worry about Brenda. She is his wife, remember? You just concentrate on your own problems."

Meanwhile, Felicia had noticed the shift in Miranda's mood since Jax's name was mentioned. "Are you okay?"

"I am fine. It's just going to be difficult to see her on his arm, gloating."

The Penthouse -- 6:00pm

Brenda was asleep on the couch when Jax came in from a meeting at the Charles Street Foundation. He walked over to the couch and knelt down beside her. He gently caressed her cheek with the back of his hand. As she awakened, Brenda softly kissed his hand.

"Hello, Sleeping Beauty. How are you?"

"Perfect now that you're here." She sat up and pulled Jax into a passionate kiss. As their lips separated, Jax sat next to her on the sofa.

"Are my two favorite people in this world hungry?"

"We certainly are. What do you have in mind?"

"I thought we go out and grab something at the Outback."

Brenda was silent. Jax took her hand as he said, "Honey, we can't spend the rest of our lives trying to avoid our pasts. You know that we are going to run into Sonny and Miranda periodically so we might as well get used to it."

Brenda smiled. "I know you are right but I still dread this. I will get changed and then we can go. I love you."

"I love you, too."

The Outback -- 7:00pm

Miranda was talking to Felicia and Brian when Jax and Brenda walked through the door. Felicia told Miranda she would seat them but Miranda waved her off and walked to the entrance area. "Welcome back. I trust you had a wonderful trip."

Brenda forced a smile as Jax said, "Yes, we did, thank you."

Miranda then escorted them to their table and watched as Jax pulled out the chair for Brenda and then gently squeezed her shoulders before sitting next to her. She handed them their menus and left.

Jax took Brenda's hands in his. "See you survived that."

As the evening passed, Miranda focused her attention on Brenda and Jax. She was dismayed at how close they seemed and how attentive Jax was to Brenda.

As Jax and Brenda were finishing dinner, they were discussing their immediate plans when Jax asked her what her schedule was tomorrow.

"It's clear. Why do you ask?"

"I thought it would be a good day to start house hunting."

"House hunting. Are we really going to look for a house?"

"Of course. We are not going to raise our family in a penthouse."

"You mean a real house with a yard, trees and a swing set."

"Whatever your heart desires, Brenda. It can even have a white picket fence if you want."

"Oh, Jax. Do you know that I have been waiting my whole life for this moment?"

"Brenda, do you know that I have been waiting my whole life to share it with you?"

They leaned in for a soft, lingering kiss as Miranda looked on.

Friday, March 14, 1997
The Penthouse -- 10:00am

Jax was meeting with Justus at the Charles Street Foundation and planned to meet Brenda at Kelly's later to continue their house hunting. Brenda was curious as to the nature of these meetings with Justus especially since Jax was no longer a member of the ELQ board. She had asked Jax about the meetings and he had been very evasive. As she pondered the situation, the phone rang. She answered it to hear Lucy on the other end.

"Hello, Brenda. How is my favorite model today?"

"Fine, Lucy."

"Great. I have been meeting with the public relations and marketing departments all week and we have come up with a brilliant idea for a campaign. It is going to put Jacks' Cosmetics through the stratosphere and take your popularity along with it."

"That sounds wonderful. What is the new campaign?"

Lucy then provided her with the details of the promotion. During the late spring, Jacks' Cosmetics would start the initial distribution of its new all-natural product line of make-up, soaps and shampoos. The campaign would stress the all-natural ingredients of the products and focus on the natural beauty of its spokesperson. Brenda would serve as the spokesmodel and her pregnancy would compliment the all-natural beauty elements of the campaign. What was more beautiful and natural than a woman bringing a child into the world? The springtime release of the new product line was also an ideal tie-in for the pregnancy angle. The timing of the campaign would be perfect as Brenda would be in the middle stage of her pregnancy and her radiance would be at its peak.

Brenda was thrilled that Lucy had found a way for Jacks' Cosmetics to benefit from the pregnancy. Lucy told her that the details of the campaign itself would be kept under wraps for the next few months but that Brenda could announce the pregnancy news at any time. As Lucy says good-bye, she told Brenda that she and Kevin wanted Brenda and Jax to join them for congratulatory dinner soon.

Kelly's -- Noon

Jax entered the diner and sat at the counter waiting for Brenda. He was talking to Ruby about the wedding when Brenda breezed in. Jax caught his breath as Brenda ran over to him with a smile on her face that instantly melted his heart. She kissed him and walked behind the counter to hug Ruby.

"I was just telling Jax how marriage agreed with him and I must repeat the same to you. You look absolutely radiant, Brenda."

"Ruby, we are so happy and our marriage is only a part of it." Brenda then looked at Jax and took his hand. "We also have some other news to share. We are going to have a baby."

"Oh, honey, that is wonderful." Ruby then hugged Brenda and Jax. "Now, I am going to get you something to eat."

Jax and Brenda sat at a table and Brenda told him about her conversation with Lucy and the new ad campaign. Her excitement and her energy level were overwhelming. After they finished lunch, they said their good-byes to Ruby and headed for the door when Jason and Sonny entered the diner. Jax stood behind Brenda and rested his hands on her shoulders. After the initial moment of awkwardness, Brenda was the first to speak.

"Hello, Sonny and Jason."

Sonny looked down at the floor and then says, "Hello. How are you?"

"We are fine but we are late for an appointment. See you later." Brenda took Jax's hand as they exited Kelly's.

Sonny and Jason sat down and Ruby walked over to them. She looked at Sonny and says, "She is happy, please just leave her alone."

65 Harbor View Road -- 5:00pm

Brenda and Jax entered the foyer of the house grinning at the prospect of being neighbors to the Quartermaines who lived across the street. The mansion was smaller than that of the Quartermaines but was still an architectural masterpiece. The house included cathedral ceilings, stone fireplaces, sky lights and huge bay windows. The house was large enough for entertaining but manageable with a small staff. The fireplace and bar area reminded Brenda of the villa on Kronos. There was a balcony off the second floor master suite and terraces off the dining room and living room.

The mansion stood on several acres and the property was surrounded by stone walls while iron gates marked the east and west entrances. The property included immaculately manicured gardens and groves of trees as well as tennis courts and an olympic size swimming pool. Brenda was overwhelmed with it all. As she walked through the bedrooms on the second floor, she felt at home. Jax immediately read her mind as he said, "This is home, isn't it?"

"Oh, Jax, it just feels right. These walls echo the sound of laughter and joy."

"Then home it is, Mrs. Jacks. Wait until Edward gets the news. I envision another fake coronary coming on." He then lifted Brenda into his arms and swung her around the room.

"I love you, Jax. We are going to make all our dreams come true in this house."

Tuesday, March 18, 1997
The Penthouse -- 9:30am

Jax was shaving in the bathroom and trying not to laugh as he heard Brenda muttering in the bedroom. She couldn't seem to find a pair of jeans that fit. She was standing in front of the mirror in disgust as Jax walked into the bedroom.

"Sweetheart, are we having a problem?"

"Go ahead and laugh, Jax, before you explode."

"Brenda, you are three months pregnant. You are supposed to not be able to fit into your clothes now."

"I know that. It's just that yesterday these jeans fit and now they don't. Then we have my chest. At this rate, I am going to look like Dolly Parton before this is all over."

Jax winked at her. "I will just have to make the extreme sacrifice and grin and bear it. I think we should go to Wyndham's and get you some maternity clothes."

"All right -- you win. Let's go."

Luke's Club -- Noon

Kevin and Lucy were having lunch while Jason and Sonny were talking at the bar. Lucy received a call on her cell phone from the office but the connection was terrible. She walked up to the bar and asked Mike if she could use the phone. He handed it to her and she called her office. She was transferred to the public relations director who had some questions concerning the press release announcing Brenda's pregnancy. As she completed her call, Sonny's curiosity was piqued.

"Well, it sounds like things are hopping at Jacks' Cosmetics."

"Oh, Sonny, things are great. Now that Katherine is back to work, my competitive nature has returned and my creative juices are flowing. This new campaign is going to blow her out of the water."

"I presume Brenda will be a big part of the campaign."

"She is the focal point of the campaign. Her pregnancy could not have been better timed for our plans."

Mike struggled not to drop the glass he was holding and Sonny's face registered a look of shock at her words. Mike spoke up. "I did not realize Brenda was pregnant."

"Yes, and she is ecstatic with the news. Well, let me get back to my Doc. Thanks for the use of the phone."

Mike turned to say something to Sonny but Sonny immediately rose from the bar stool and walked back into the office. Sonny closed the office door behind him as Lucy's words were echoing through his mind. He then remembered his conversation with Brenda outside Kelly's when he had told her about Lily's pregnancy. Then memories of the explosion outside the Club overtook his mind. He knew that danger was still lurking around him and he feared that Brenda was still a potential target. He vowed to protect her and her child at all costs.

Wyndham's -- 2:00pm

Jax and Brenda had spent the past few hours purchasing maternity clothes. She had put on a fashion show for Jax while choosing her new wardrobe. She had also been to the lingerie department to purchase bras and camisoles that did not cut off her circulation.

They then ventured into the infant's department. Brenda picked up a pair of booties and was astounded at how small they seemed. Jax then picked up an adorable fuzzy teddy bear and decided it would make the perfect first gift for the baby. As they were shopping, they see Simone in the boys' department. She waved and walked over to them. Simone immediately noticed the teddy bear in Jax's arms and the booties in Brenda's hand.

"Hello you two. This is a surprise. Is there some news that I do not know about?"

Brenda smiled at her. "Yes, Simone, you will have a new patient in about 6 months."

Simone offered her congratulations and told them to call her any time with any questions they may have.

The Outback -- 8:00pm

Felicia and Miranda were standing at the bar when Simone entered the Outback. She came over to the bar and started speaking to Felicia about her terrible day at the hospital. She mentioned the only positive news she had for the day was the news of Brenda's pregnancy. Felicia watched as Miranda's face fell. Audrey then entered the restaurant and Simone joined her for dinner.

Felicia looked at the stunned Miranda and asked, "I guess this was news to you as well."

"Yes." She then excused herself by telling Felicia she had left something in her upstairs apartment. Miranda then headed upstairs for a moment to gather her thoughts. She thought to herself that this pregnancy was just a ploy for Brenda to entrap Jax into staying with her. Brenda had done it again and Miranda knew she would have to act fast in order to rekindle her relationship with Jax.

The Penthouse -- 10:00pm

A fire was glowing in the fireplace as Brenda was thumbing through interior design magazines. Jax had just gotten off the phone with his lawyer and he announced to Brenda that the real estate contracts had been executed and that settlement on the house would occur next week. They were fortunate that the current owners had moved to Paris so the house was already vacant. The lawyers had made arrangements with the owners enabling Jax and Brenda to start the renovation work before the closing took place.

Brenda had spent most of the past three days with the interior designers. Fabrics has been chosen and furniture had been ordered. Jax was having pieces from his extensive art collection shipped from Alaska. As housewarming gifts, John and Jane were making arrangements for rugs to be shipped from the Orient and Jerry had procured the services of a glassmaker from Venice to design chandeliers for the house. Brenda looked up at the mantel and smiled as she saw the yacht. She then looked at the sofa opposite her and saw the teddy bear they had purchased earlier at Wyndham's.

Jax sat next to her and took her hand in his and brought it to his lips. He knew she was deep in thought. "Soon we will be in our new home making wonderful memories there."

"I know but we have had some wonderful memories in this penthouse as well. Our baby was conceived here and this is where we started our life together in Port Charles."

"I know, sweetheart, but now we will have a real home. It has been a very long day and I think it's time for you to get to bed."

"No, Jax. I want to spend the night here in front of the fireplace just like we did on Christmas Eve."

They then went into the bedroom to change. Brenda brought out some blankets and the pillows from their bed while Jax moved the coffee table and laid out the comforter from the guest room. Jax sat down on the comforter and took Brenda's hand as she sat down. She looked beautiful as the glow from the flames reflected off her black silk nightshirt. Jax eased her onto the pillows as she melted into his arms and whispered, "I love you."

She gently caressed his cheek as he lowered his head and kissed her forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. His lips then hungrily overtook hers as she ran her hand through his hair. Jax's hands moved to her chest as he slowly unbuttoned her nightshirt. He softly caressed her slightly swollen stomach before his hands began to trace the fullness of her breasts. Brenda softly moaned as his thumbs gently moved to her nipples which immediately hardened at the feel of his touch. She felt as though an electrical current was running through her body as the warmth of his mouth and tongue consumed her breasts.

After he had indulged in the pleasure of her breasts, Jax stopped and gazed into her eyes. He whispered, "I love you," as he moved on top of her. Brenda's arousal level was on overload as she stroked his inner thighs and murmured, "Now, darling." Jax needed no further enticement as he pulled her to him and groaned in delight as their connection becomes complete and their love was shared.

Friday, March 21, 1997
The Penthouse -- 9:00am

Brenda was in bed scanning the newspaper to find the follow-ups from the prior day's announcement from Jacks' Cosmetics concerning her pregnancy. The press release did not specify any details of the future marketing campaign plans as it only had stated that a huge promotion featuring Brenda would be unveiled in the late spring. Brenda knew now that everyone in Port Charles had learned of the pregnancy, specifically Sonny and Miranda. Her thoughts moved to her relationship with Sonny over the past few months. She recalled their altercation in the foyer of the Quartermaine house the day of the wedding and the next day at the penthouse. Her mind then went to the day she found him close to death in his apartment and then to his confession of love at the hospital. Then those ridiculous gifts and the whole mystery around them. Brenda knew how much Jax and Sonny hated each other but she thought that both men were overly critical and overly suspicious of the other. She knew that Sonny loved her and that he wanted her to be happy. But there was still a part of her that worried about him and cared for him deeply so she could not help wondering how he had reacted to the news of her pregnancy.

Miranda, on the other hand, was a different story. Brenda hoped that this news would serve to convince Miranda once and for all that Jax would not be a part of her present or her future. She had given him up six years ago and lost all claims to him. She made her choice, now she was going to have to live with it. Brenda knew that Miranda still possessed the power to manipulate Jax. His guilt was eating away at him and Miranda knew how to use that to her benefit. Brenda vowed that she would put a stop to that.

Meanwhile, Jax is in the living room preparing for a meeting with his accountant. He glanced over at yesterday's newspaper and saw the press release. He realized that everyone had heard the news and his thoughts moved to Miranda and Sonny. He wondered how Miranda had taken the news. He knew the divorce had been difficult for her and that she had put on a brave front for his benefit. Now she would have to deal with this and move on. Miranda would always be very special to him and he just hoped she could find happiness.

Images of Sonny then crept into his mind. Jax's tolerance of him had reached its limit. Now Sonny would just have to accept that his days with Brenda were over. Jax knew Sonny wanted her back and was using the situation with Miranda to his full advantage. Brenda needed attention but, more importantly, she needed to be needed. Sonny was playing this angle for all it was worth. Now Sonny had even more danger lurking around him and he was trying to bring her back into his life. Then those gifts. Jax was convinced they were from Sonny, especially since there had been no deliveries since the wedding. Hopefully this meant Sonny had finally realized Brenda was not available. Jax vowed he would not let Sonny affect his future with Brenda.

The Port Charles Grille -- 1:00pm

Brenda and Lucy had finished their lunch meeting concerning the schedule for the upcoming campaign. As she got up from the table to head to the office, Lucy handed Brenda a memo detailing the latest promotional plans. As Brenda perused the memo, Sonny walked into the restaurant. Their eyes met and Brenda took a deep breath as she motioned for him to join her. He sat down at the table. "Having lunch alone?"

"No, Lucy and I had a meeting. You just missed her."

"Well, Jacks' Cosmetics has certainly been making the news lately."

"Sonny, ... um"

"Congratulations, Brenda. I am very happy for you."

"Thank you, Sonny. Jax and I are both very happy. Sonny, I wanted to tell you before the news hit the papers, but ..."

"Brenda, do not say anything more. I want you to be happy and I know you will make a wonderful mother. Just concentrate on that now."

Brenda saw the pain in his eyes and swallowed hard. "Sonny, I want you to be happy, too. Please tell me you are being careful."

"Brenda, do not worry about me, please. I just want you to think about yourself and your baby. Promise me that you will be careful and steer clear of this plot against me."

"I promise. Now promise me that you will be extra cautious now."

"I will." At that moment, Sonny's associate walked into the restaurant for their meeting. Sonny rose from the table and put his hand over Brenda's and said, "Jacks' Cosmetics is going to make a fortune from its next campaign. You have never looked more beautiful." He walked away as Brenda took a deep breath. She then left the restaurant without looking back at him.

The Outback -- 4:00pm

Jax was at the bar waiting for Justus and A.J. to arrive for a meeting. Miranda descended the stairs from her upstairs apartment and saw him. He looked up to see her as she approached him.

"It's a little early for happy hour, isn't it?"

"Hello, Miranda. I am waiting to meet with Justus Ward and A.J. Quartermaine."

"In the meantime, I guess I should buy you a glass of champagne to celebrate your news."

"Miranda..."

"Congratulations, Jax! I hope you are very happy."

"Thank you. I am thrilled as is Brenda. I meant to get by to tell you the news myself but ..."

"You don't owe me anything, Jax, so do not give it another thought. I just want you to be happy."

"I am very happy, Miranda. I also want the same for you."

Justus and A.J. then walked in and Jax excused himself as Miranda looked on with a look of despair on her face.

Jax then went over the results of his earlier meeting with the accountant while Justus and A.J. gave him an update on the zoning issues and City Council actions. Everything was coming together and there had been no leaks yet to the press. Announcements would be made to the press at the end of next week. All three men knew Edward and Ned were going to be furious, but all took a bit of pleasure in that thought. Jax had even been able to keep all the plans from Brenda but he knew she was getting very suspicious. He would tell her before any public announcements were made.

Tuesday, March 25, 1997
The Penthouse -- 8:00am

Jax was quietly getting dressed as Brenda slept. She stirred and reached across the bed for him. She opened her eyes and saw him standing over her.

"Where are you going this early? I need you back in bed with me."

Jax sat on the bed beside her. "That is a very tempting offer but I have a breakfast meeting with Justus Ward."

Brenda sat up. "Okay. What is going on with you and Justus? Are you trying to find the easiest way to divorce me?"

"Oh, Brenda. You found out. Now I guess I'll just have to go the Dominican Republic to divorce you."

She slapped him on the arm. "Real funny, Jax. Now, what is really going on? You have been meeting with Justus since we came back from Alaska. What is the real story?"

Jax laughed at her as he enjoyed watching her frustration. He had planned to tell her the whole story today. "Justus has been helping me to enlist the goods and services of some of the Charles Street businesses in connection with my latest acquisition."

"What acquisition?"

"J & J Jacks is acquiring the old Cooper plants and warehouses on the north side of Port Charles and will need manpower, services and products to complete the renovation and commence operations."

"What operations?"

J & J Jacks is moving its northeast headquarters to Port Charles."

"Are you kidding? You mean the operations will be headquartered here rather than Toronto so you won't have to travel so often?"

"That's what it means. A.J. Quartermaine has been pushing new zoning regulations through the City Council as well as a tax credit package for the businesses in the area."

Brenda hugged Jax tightly. "Oh, what wonderful news! The influx of new industry and new jobs will certainly benefit the city."

"That is the plan which is why Justus has been involved from the start. I wanted the Charles Street Foundation and its members to have the first chance to benefit from the relocation."

"I can't believe J & J Jacks is moving to Port Charles."

"Port Charles is our home, Brenda. We are going to raise our family here and we need to give something back to the community. There is only one problem."

"What is that, Jax?"

"Edward is going to blow his stack when he finds out ELQ will have competition here."

"What a shame! Local business competitors and neighbors all in the same month."

They both laughed. "The news is going to be released tomorrow so the fireworks will begin soon. Now, I have to get to my meeting."

"Not so fast, mister. When were you going to tell me all this?"

"Brenda, I had to be sure the plan was feasible before I said anything. I did not want to get your hopes up for nothing."

They were sitting on the bed and Brenda put her arms around him. "That's a likely story. I think you just wanted me to suffer and let my imagination run wild."

"Well, I do like it when your imagination runs wild."

"Mr. Jacks, you are going to have be punished for your actions." She then began unbuttoning his shirt and removed his tie.

As she began to kiss his chest, Jax murmured, "I trust this means I am going to be late for my meeting."

"Trust me, you are going to be late. Very late actually." Brenda then pulled him onto the bed and the punishment began.

65 Harbor View Road -- 2:00pm

Brenda and Robin, who was in town for her spring break, went to the house so Brenda could provide Robin with a tour of the mansion. Settlement had occurred the day before so Brenda and Jax were now the legal owners of the estate. The renovations were almost complete and the house looked beautiful even without furnishings. Robin was in awe of her surroundings.

"I can't believe you and Jax are going to live across the road from the Quartermaines."

"It is pretty unbelievable, isn't it? Actually the past month and a half have been unbelievable." At that moment, Brenda placed her hand on her stomach. She still did not look pregnant in regular clothes but her stomach was definitely swollen.

"Brenda, I can't tell you how happy I am for you. I know this is all you have ever wanted."

"Thank you, Robin. Now, how is the treatment going and how is Jason? I do not see him that often anymore."

"I am fine. The drug treatment program is manageable thus far. I have not had any side effects yet so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Jason is fine, he is my rock. He is still worried about Sonny though."

"Why? Has something else happened?"

"No, but Sonny still has no idea who tried to kill him."

"I do not see him that much anymore but Jax and I are having dinner at Luke's tonight so I guess I will see him then. I know it is not easy for him now so I figured it was best to keep my distance."

Robin smiled at Brenda but could not help but notice a hint of sadness in her eyes when she spoke about Sonny.

"Okay, let me show you some of the grounds." They then left the house and ventured outdoors for a tour before leaving to spend the rest of the afternoon together.

Luke's Club -- 8:00pm

Jax and Brenda were having dinner with Kevin and Lucy. Brenda had made Jax promise to be on his best behavior when they saw Sonny. Lucy was on cloud nine about the publicity being generated about Brenda's pregnancy and the new ad campaign.

Jason was sitting at the bar with Sonny. Jason and Mike watched Sonny as he watched Brenda. She looked so beautiful that Sonny had to catch his breath when she entered the Club. Gina then came over to the bar and commented to Jason how beautiful Brenda looked and how happy she and Jax seemed. She left to seat a customer but not before saying, "With those two people as its parents, can you imagine just how beautiful that baby is going to be?"

Jax spent the evening trying to ignore Sonny but Brenda was happy and that was all that mattered. Jax knew Sonny was going to be a constant reminder of Brenda's past and he would just have to deal with it. Lucy was her typically entertaining self and said she would let Brenda and Jax know when she started having psychic feelings about the baby. Brenda laughed as Jax rolled his eyes at Lucy's discussions of her psychic connections.

At the end of the evening as the two couples headed for the door, Sonny and Brenda exchanged glances. After they had left, Mike shook his head as he watched Sonny head out the door with a look of pain in his eyes.

Meanwhile, in the parking lot across the street from Luke's, an unidentified person sat in a parked car and noted the comings and goings of Brenda and Sonny.

Thursday, March 27, 1997
The Penthouse -- 8:00am

Jax was sleeping as Brenda laid in his arms. Her head was resting on his chest as she listened to his steadily beating heart. Her heart, on the other hand, was racing. She had not slept well; her first ultrasound was scheduled for this morning and she was nervous. Lois had told her there was nothing to be nervous about, but she still was. This pregnancy was still such a wonder to her and now she was entering her second trimester.

Jax awakened and tightened his hold on her as he kissed the top of her head. He had been awake most of the night due to her restlessness. He realized how nervous she was and knew she would feel much better after the visit with Dr. Meadows. "Good morning, my loves."

Brenda kissed his chest. "Good morning. I am sorry that I was so restless last night."

"Sweetheart, there is nothing to worry about. This morning we are going to get the first glimpse of our baby. It is going to be wonderful."

"I know that you are right, Jax. I will relax after I see for myself. Remember we decided we do not want to know the sex of the baby until it's born."

"I remember. It does not matter because I already know the baby's sex anyway."

"Oh, you do. How may I ask?"

"Trust me, I know."

"Jax, have you become psychic? I think we should call Lucy and you can compare notes."

"You are going to pay for that comment." Jax then started tickling her until she began to shriek. "Brenda, my heart tells us that we share a daughter who has the beauty, spirit and soul of her mother.

Brenda looked at him as a wave of love came over her. "Jax, I'm sorry but you are mistaken. I see us with a handsome son with eyes as blue as sapphires and who possesses his father's sense of romance and adventure."

Brenda then melted into his arms. Her nervousness had abated. It always had amazed her at what a calming influence Jax was on her. He always knew what to do and what to say. As they held each other, no words were spoken. After a few minutes, Brenda fell asleep dreaming of the family they would all be.

Dr. Meadow's Office -- 11:30am

Brenda was lying on the table while Jax held her hand. She was so nervous that she felt like she was going to jump right off the table. Jax squeezed her hand tighter to try to calm her down. She took a deep breath as the gel was applied to her abdomen. The technician then began to use the equipment and the show began. The monitor showed a profile view of the baby and the technician pointed out its arms and legs and then the eyes, ears, nose and mouth. Tears flowed as Brenda saw the baby's beating heart. The technician explained that it was too early to determine the sex of the fetus but Jax explained they did not want to know anyway. Measurements were taken and the September 24th due date was confirmed. Prints of the monitor's images were made and handed to Jax. Brenda and Jax were left alone in the office to share their thoughts. Brenda's tears had now become soft sobs as Jax pulled her into his arms.

"It's okay, sweetheart. She's perfect."

"No, Jax. He is."

Brenda composed herself and got dressed. She looked at the pictures and kissed them as they left the office. They awaited the elevator arm and arm amidst the aura of their love and the sound of their laughter. Simultaneously, Miranda turned the corner on her way to meet Katherine in Physical Therapy, and witnessed the whole scene. Her face fell as she saw the happiness they shared.

The Quartermaine Residence -- 3:00pm

Justus and A.J. had asked the rest of the ELQ board to meet them for a meeting to discuss the Charles Street Foundation. When the news was announced, Edward and Ned were outraged that J & J Jacks was relocating to Port Charles. It did not matter to them that the relocation would help the economic development of the Charles Street area. Now ELQ had a potential competitor in its back yard. Ned knew Jax would find some way to get back at him for forcing him off the ELQ board. Lila, Monica and Alan thought the news was positive for the community. They were also proud of A.J.'s role in the venture. Of course Edward called him a traitor. Sonny did not have a problem with the possibility of competition for ELQ. Rather his concern was who the competition was.

Then Reginald announced Jax and Brenda's arrival. They entered the room and Justus and A.J. go over to greet them. Edward starts motioning for Reginald. "Get that traitor out of my house."

Justus spoke up, "I invited the traitor here, Edward. I wanted you to have first hand information on the plans of J & J Jacks."

Ned piped in, "He just wanted to come here to gloat."

Brenda smiled at Jax's shear enjoyment of this whole scene. She then noticed Sonny who was uncharacteristically quiet.

Jax laughed. "Gee, if I did not know better, I would think you disliked me."

Edward moved toward Jax. "Listen here you corporate raider, every move that J & J Jacks makes is going to be monitored and now you are in my own backyard which just makes it easier. So don't you think that you are going to be able to come in here and attempt some hostile take-over. You will fail and then pay heavily for the mistake."

"Edward, there are no hostile take-over plans. J & J Jacks is relocating to Port Charles because it is my home now and I think it is high time I gave back to this community."

Ned then spoke. "Jax, it you think we believe that, you are not as smart as I thought you were."

"Ned, think what you want. I just think we all need to get along, especially now that we are going to be neighbors."

"What the devil are you talking about?"

"Edward, you did not know. Brenda and I bought the Sullivan estate across the street. We settled earlier this week."

Ned and Edward both groaned and Edward stormed out. Ned followed him. Lila wheeled herself over to Brenda and congratulated her. She also told Brenda how radiant she looked. Monica and Alan also extended their best wishes. Sonny muttered congratulations as well as he heads out the door. A.J. and Justus both extended their hands to Jax to show their admiration for his ability to clear a room. Brenda shook her head as she thought -- another typical day at the Quartermaines.

The Penthouse -- 8:00pm

As Brenda relaxed in the bathtub, Jax lit candles around the living room. A fire roared in the fireplace and he had arranged for a candlelight dinner to be delivered from the Grille. Soft music was heard from the CD player. It had been such an incredible day and tonight would be one of the last nights they would spend in the penthouse. Brenda appeared from the bedroom. She stopped in her tracks as she saw the scene her husband had set. She was wearing Jax's white bathrobe from Malibu.

"Honey, what a surprise. It is beautiful but here I am in a bathrobe and barefoot. Let me go change and I'll be right back."

Jax grabbed her hand and leads her into the living room. "Brenda, you will do no such thing. You have never looked more beautiful." He took her into his arms and they danced before the glowing flames of the fireplace. Jax cradled her face in his hands and their eyes met. "Brenda, I love you more every day. I did not think it was possible to love anyone this much."

"Jax, I still can't believe this is all real, that you are real."

"It's real, believe me." He then rested his hand on her protruding stomach which is evident in her tightly wrapped bathrobe.

They enjoyed dinner and later were sitting on the couch. Jax took a small box from behind the pillow and handed it to her. She opened it to reveal a heart-shaped sapphire and diamond pendant. Her hands were shaking as she removed it from the box.

"A gift for the mother of my child. The sapphires are for our child's birthstone, the diamonds represent forever and the heart shape is because you own my heart now and always."

Brenda's emotions were on overload. Her heart was racing and she couldn't seem to catch her breath. Tears of joy were streaming down her cheeks. She realized this is what it meant to be truly happy and she had never before experienced such a feeling.

Her eyes reflected all these emotions and Jax took her into his arms. "I know, honey. I know."

They spent the rest of the night basking in each other's love and devotion. On this night, life was truly perfect.

Monday, March 31, 1997
The Penthouse -- 8:00am

Jax entered the bedroom and was relieved to find Brenda still asleep. She had been so busy over the past few days overseeing the final decorating and renovation details for the house and coordinating the packing for the move this afternoon. He knew Brenda had overdone it but she had insisted on handling everything. At least the packing had been completed and everything would be moved to the house this afternoon. Lois and Gloria were coming at the end of the week to help Brenda get things settled.

Brenda awakened to find Jax watching over her. He walked over to the bed and sat down beside her. "Brenda, go back to sleep. You need your rest and the movers are not coming until this afternoon."

"I am fine, Jax. Besides I have a better idea on how we can spend our time waiting for the movers." She then began to untie his bathrobe and massage his chest.

"I can't imagine what you have mind, Mrs. Jacks."

Brenda raised her eyebrow at him. "I think we should take this opportunity to make love in this bed for the last time."

"I thought we took care of that last night."

"Well, that was our last night of lovemaking in this bed. Now this will be the last morning of lovemaking."

A huge grin appeared on Jax's face. "This pregnancy has certainly increased your appetites, and I mean all of them."

"I know and I am starving right now." She then passionately kissed him and they fell back onto the bed.

"You have always been amazing but now you are insatiable."

"I know. It's the hormones. Now what is your excuse, Mr. Jacks?"

"I do not need an excuse, I only need to look at you."

With this, their lips again meet and their bodies soon follow as their appetites were satisfied and their passions were fulfilled.

The Outback -- 2:00pm

Sonny was finishing lunch after having met with Jason about the latest deliveries to Canada. Miranda walked by and stopped at the table. "Mr. Corinthos, to what do we owe the pleasure of your company?"

"I just wanted to see your face Ms. Jameson or is it Ms. Jameson-Jacks?"

"Real funny, Sonny. Well, have you seen the happy couple lately? If you read the paper and listen to the gossip, you would think they were the only people to ever have a child. Brenda certainly knows how to get attention."

"I saw them last week. Seems boy wonder bought some estate out in the high rent district across the street from the Quartermaines."

"Jax settling down in some overpriced palace? I can't believe it. She has really brainwashed him. I do not think he even knows what he wants anymore."

"I am sure you think you know what he wants, Miranda."

"I do. Brenda does not even know him and now she thinks she has some type of permanent hold on him because of this baby. Well, she is wrong. I am convinced more than ever that she will hurt him and I refuse to allow that to happen."

"Miranda, do not underestimate the power of a child. Believe me, I know."

"Corinthos, you sound like you are giving up. I can't believe this. I thought you always got what you wanted. Maybe you have wised up and the little model is no longer in your plans?"

"No, Miranda, I have not given up. My priority now is to keep Brenda and her child safe because boy wonder can't. I'll worry about the rest later."

The New Home -- 8:00pm

The move was completed and Brenda and Jax were in the den sitting in front of the fireplace eating pizza. The yacht was on the mantel so the house had officially been christened as their "home". The living room furniture and dining room furniture would be delivered later in the week. With the exception of those two rooms and the room designated as the nursery, the rest of the house was furnished. Interviews for a housekeeper and a gardener were scheduled for later in the week. Brenda has insisted that she is going to learn how to cook now that she had a fully equipped kitchen so she told Jax they would not need to hire a cook at least until the baby came. Jax had his doubts, worrying they would starve before this was all over, but he had acquiesced for the time being.

Brenda and Jax spent the rest of the night together basking in the splendor of their new home and their love for each other. Before they went to bed for the evening, they toasted (with sparkling cider) their life together and the promises of the future.
