Warehouse 39 -- 3:00am
Frankie Molino was followed by his associate, Anthony Demino, as he drove Brenda's porsche to the top of Maple Drive on the outskirts of Port Charles. Maple Drive was the highest elevation point in Port Charles and was known for its hairpin turns. Frankie drove the porsche at a high rate of speed as he approached the top of Maple Drive. He entered the hairpin turn and slammed on the car's brakes to leave behind a distinct set of skid marks. Frankie stopped the car just as it skidded onto the gravel area bordering the road. Frankie placed Brenda's purse on the passenger seat of the car and exited the vehicle. Frankie opened the trunk and he and Anthony removed the body and placed it behind the wheel. Fortunately, the saleswoman from Smythe's Jewelers was the same build as Brenda. Anthony then used his vehicle to rear end the porsche causing the porsche to plummet down the steep hill to the valley below. The porsche exploded on impact with the ground.
The Jacks' Residence -- 9:00am
Jax had finished preparing for his meetings at the Foundation offices and sat down to call Brenda at the Cerullo residence.
"Hello."
"Hi, Gloria. It's Jax. I am calling to see if I have to get a second job to cover the damage from my wife's shopping spree yesterday. Is she awake yet?"
"Jax, I don't know what you are talking about."
"I'm talking about Brenda's shopping spree with Lois."
"Jax, Lois and Brooke have the flu. She canceled her shopping trip with Brenda yesterday. Brenda is not here."
Jax collapsed onto the bed. "Oh, my God."
"Jax, you are scaring me. Is Brenda not there?"
"Gloria, I have to make some calls. I will let you know when I find out what is going on. Good-bye."
Jax started screaming for Corrine. He asked that she check for a note that Brenda could possibly have let for him. Jax checked the closet and found Brenda's empty suitcase. He then picked up the phone.
"Commissioner Scorpio."
"Mac, It's Jax. Brenda is missing."
"What are talking about Jax?"
"Mac, I have not seen or heard from her in almost twenty-four hours."
"Jax, did you two have an argument?"
"No, we did not have a fight. Mac, my wife is missing."
"Slow down, Jax. Where are you?"
"I am at home."
"I will be right there. In the meantime, call the local hospitals and see if there have been any patients admitted who match Brenda's description."
Jax called the hospitals and there had been no unidentified patients admitted. Corrine had not found any notes nor any clues to Brenda's whereabouts. Mac and Detective Taggert entered the house.
Jax proceeded to tell them that he had thought Brenda was in Bensonhurst until he had spoken to Gloria Cerullo this morning. Both Corrine and Virgil had been off yesterday so Brenda had been alone for the day. Brenda's car was missing and he had received no messages concerning her whereabouts. The phone then rang and Corrine announced that it was Lois Ashton. Mac spoke to Lois and Lois explained that she talked to Brenda yesterday about 11:00am and had not spoken to her since.
"Jax, we are going to search the house while another set of detectives searches the grounds. I want you to call all of Brenda's friends and find out if anyone has spoken to her or seen her in the last twenty-four hours."
"Commissioner, Corinthos could be behind this. I need to speak with him. I think we had better bring Patrick Cleary in for questioning."
"Okay, Taggert. Make the arrangements. Corinthos' arraignment is scheduled for this afternoon so you will have him at your disposal to question until then."
"Mac, if Sonny Corinthos is responsible for this he is a dead man."
"Jax, I do not think it is wise for you to make those kinds of threats in my presence. I am going to call Robin to see if she has spoken to Brenda. I also need to speak to Jason about Sonny's claims about the bracelet."
Jax started making phone calls to Ned, Ruby, Lucy, etc., while Mac finally reached Robin. He asked to speak to Jason and told him of Sonny's arrest. Jason confirmed that Sonny had picked up a bracelet for Robin. Mac told Jason to bring the bracelet back to Port Charles with him. Mac also told Jason about Brenda's disappearance and Jason then put Robin back on the phone. Robin explained that she had not spoken to Brenda in a few days and she told Mac that she and Jason were returning to Port Charles immediately.
Jax got off the phone and informed Mac that no one had spoken to or seen Brenda in the past twenty-four hours. Mac told him that Jason confirmed Sonny's story about the bracelet. "Jax, I know you think Sonny is behind this but this is not his style. We just lost our best piece of evidence on the stalking charge. This could be a set-up or something totally unrelated to the gifts. I need to go talk to Corinthos to get some answers."
"I am coming with you."
Warehouse 39 -- 11:00am
Brenda had been conscious since the early morning hours. She had realized that her nightmare was actually her reality. She had been screaming for hours but to no avail. She was terrified and starving. Waves of nausea have overwhelmed her and her failure to eat had caused her to experience a terrible headache.
The darkness of the room was suddenly dissipated when the door opened. Harry Silver entered the room and stood before Brenda.
"Well, Mrs. Jacks, we meet again."
"Harry, what are you doing?"
"I am seeking retribution for a previous wrong."
"What are you talking about?"
"You and your clandestine lover will soon know. Don't bother screaming, Brenda. No one can hear you."
Harry then left the room, returning it to darkness once again. Brenda began to sob as she laid back on the cot. Amidst her sobs were whispers of "Jax, please help me."
Police Headquarters -- 1:00pm
Mac, Jax and Detective Taggert are in Mac's office. Sonny was then brought into the office. "Well, if it isn't the three musketeers. What do you want to charge with me now? How about Damian Smith's murder?"
"How about the disappearance of Brenda Barrett Jacks, Corinthos?"
As the words left Detective Taggert's lips, Sonny looked as though he has been hit by a train. "What are you saying?"
"My wife has disappeared, Corinthos. Don't act like this is a big surprise to you."
"What do you mean she has disappeared? What the hell happened?"
"That's what we are trying to find out, Sonny. Can you shed some light on this situation?"
"Mac, I told you that I have not been stalking Brenda. I have been very fearful for her safety ever since the attempt was made on my life. I fear that whoever is after me will use her to get to me. I have told Mr. Jacks this on numerous occasions but he has failed to take me seriously and now look where we are. I need to get the hell out of here. I need to see Valentine right now."
"Shut up, Corinthos. You are involved in this on some level and I will hold you personally responsible should anything happen to my wife or my child."
"Calm down both of you. Sonny, your arraignment is later this afternoon. Valentine can do nothing for you until then. Now you have said that you have no information on Brenda's disappearance. Does this also mean that you have no idea as to who may be behind this plot against you?"
"Mac, I told you before that I have been unable to get any information about this. I do not know who is responsible but whoever it is means business. I can't do anything from a jail cell. I need to get out on the street."
"Sonny, go see Valentine. We will bring you back in if we need you."
Sonny left the office and Jax began pacing the floor. "Mac, I can't stand around doing nothing. She has been missing for a day."
Robin and Jason then entered the office. Robin walked over and hugged Jax.
"Mac, where is Sonny?"
"Jason, he is with his lawyer. His arraignment is in thirty minutes. Do you have the bracelet?"
Robin handed Mac the bracelet. "Uncle Mac, any word on Brenda?"
"No, not yet. Taggert, call Smythe's Jewelers and confirm the number of bracelets purchased by Mr. Corinthos." The detective exited the office. "Jason, do you have any idea who is behind the plot against Sonny?"
"No, Mac. We have been unable to get anything from the word on the street. Sonny is at a complete loss here."
Taggert returned to the office and said that Smythe's Jewelers had confirmed that Sonny purchased only one bracelet. The inventory lists showed that another bracelet had been purchased the same day. The purchase had been made with cash so no record of the customer's name was available. The saleswoman who sold the bracelet was off for the rest of the week. Patrick Cleary had also confirmed that he had been hired by Corinthos to provide protection for Mrs. Jacks.
"Taggert, I am going to drop the charges against Sonny Corinthos. The evidence is now completely suspect. Bring me the paperwork for his release." Taggert, Jason and Robin exited the office as Jax sighed and put his head in his hands.
Detective Kelly then entered the office.
"Commissioner, we received a call that there was a car in the valley below Maple Drive. We have a search team there now and they have reported that the license plate is for a car registered to Brenda Barrett Jacks."
"What is the situation at the scene, Detective?"
"The car is almost burned beyond recognition. A body has been recovered at the scene. The medical examiner is on the scene now."
Jax stopped breathing momentarily. "Brenda was not in that car, Mac. I would know if she was dead. My heart would stop beating if she were gone. I know she is out there somewhere, I can feel it. She needs me and I am going to find her."
"Jax, I hear what you are saying. We do have to investigate every possibility, however."
"Mac, you do what you have to do and I will do what I have to do. I am leaving now. You can reach me at anytime on my cell phone."
"Jax, do not get involved in this. You will not do Brenda any good." Jax then exited the office.
Mac's Office -- 4:00pm
Sonny, Jason and Robin were speaking with Mac in the office. Robin was distraught over Brenda's disappearance. Sonny had been released and he was trying to convince Mac that Brenda's disappearance was related to the plot against him. The medical examiner entered the room.
"The body of a female was removed from the accident site. It was burned beyond recognition so I will need to examine the dental records of Brenda Jacks to determine if they match with those of the deceased. We are probably looking at about 48 hours here."
"Thank you, Dr. Quincy. Just let us know what you need."
"Mac, it isn't Brenda. This is all some part of an intricate plot. Brenda is out there and is in real trouble."
"Sonny, we have not ruled out anything in this case. We can't until we have some concrete answers. I suggest you go home."
"I will find out what is going on. Keep Taggert away from me. He should be investigating Brenda's disappearance, not citing me for jaywalking."
"Sonny, go home. I trust you will inform us immediately should you gather any information."
"Of course."
Sonny, Robin and Jason left the office. Mac called in a detective and told him to put an unmarked car on Sonny and the penthouse.
Warehouse 39 -- 6:00pm
Harry entered the locked room with a plate of food. "Dinner is served, Mrs. Jacks. We need to keep your strength up."
"Harry, I do not know what you are doing but it will not work. My husband will find me."
"Your husband and the rest of Port Charles think you are dead, Mrs. Jacks."
"What?"
"Yes, as the result of a fiery car crash off Maple Drive. That poor soul of a husband of yours has lost two wives in explosions."
"Harry, you are sick."
"No, Mrs. Jacks, I am correcting a mistake of the past. There is difference. Enjoy your meal. It will be one your last."
Sonny's Penthouse -- 7:00pm
Sonny entered the penthouse with Jason and stumbled over the note left last night by Frankie Molino. The note read, "She is waiting for you." Sonny crumbled the note in his hand and threw it against the wall.
"I knew it. This is all a set-up. Brenda is out there somewhere. Who is doing this? Jason, call Benny and get everyone out on the street. Somebody has to be talking."
"Okay, Sonny. I need you to promise me that you are not going to do anything stupid here. Whoever has Brenda is after you. You can't walk into a trap because it will do neither of you any good."
"Jason, I am going to find her. I have to. I will do anything that it takes. Now, get on the phone."
The Jacks' Residence -- 9:00pm
Mac called Jax and confirmed that the medical examiner would need 48 hours to compare Brenda's dental records with those of the remains found at the crash site. In the meantime, unmarked cars were watching Sonny's penthouse and the garage. Mac explained that Sonny was convinced that Brenda was alive. Jax shook his head as told Mac that he and Sonny finally agreed on something.
Jax had called Jerry and explained the situation. Jerry would arrive first thing the next morning. Jax knew that he and Jerry could come up with a course of action to deal with this. He knew that Brenda was alive and that the police were not going to find her. Jax could barely hold himself together thinking that Brenda was being used as a pawn in this plot against Sonny. Jax couldn't help but think back to Sonny's words of late. Sonny had warned him that Brenda needed to be protected. Jax knew his own ego had gotten in the way and look what it had cost him. Brenda was gone and no one knew where she was or who had her. He had promised to protect her and their baby and he had failed. He could not help thinking about Miranda and the fact that he had not been able to protect her either. He had closed his eyes to the world around him and look what it had cost. Jax knew that he could never survive if anything happened to either Brenda or the baby.
Port Charles -- 11:30pm
Harry slipped the note and the cassette tape into an envelope and handed it to Anthony to deliver. He commented that Mrs. Jacks' screaming sessions certainly had come in handy. Harry laughed to himself that Sonny would pay the ultimate price tomorrow.
Sonny and Jason sat in the penthouse. The room was completely dark and Sonny had his head in his hands. He couldn't believe this was happening again and he knew he could never live with himself if anything had happened to Brenda or her child.
Brenda was shedding silent tears as she tightly wrapped her arms around her stomach. She had screamed, yelled and sobbed for a good portion of the day to no avail. She was trying to calm down for the sake of the baby. In her heart she knew that Jax would find her. He had rescued her from her life of misery and he certainly would rescue her now. She whispered to the baby, "Daddy will be here soon and he will take us home. He promised to protect us and Daddy never breaks his promises. We just have to be patient."
Jax was pacing the floors of the upstairs. Everywhere he looked, he saw images of Brenda. He heard her laughter in every room and traces of her perfume permeated the air. He whispered into the dark silence, "Hold on, my love. I will find you."
Friday, May 2, 1997
Sonny's penthouse -- 6:00am
Sonny opened the front door of the penthouse to retrieve the morning paper. The headline read, "Model presumed dead in fiery crash." Sonny threw the paper down and the envelope slipped out. He found the cassette and opened the note. The note said, "This sound is music to my ears." Sonny put the tape in the cassette player and pushed play. The sounds of Brenda's screams and sobs filled the room. Sonny started to hyperventilate. Jason entered the room as the tape was playing. He had never seen the look that had appeared on Sonny's face. He knew that Sonny's heart was being ripped out of his chest. Sonny did not even appear to have noticed Jason's entrance. Jason walked over to the tape player and turned it off.
"Sonny, don't do this."
"Jason, they have her. What the hell do they want?"
The Jacks' Residence -- 8:00am
Jerry had arrived and Jax had provided him with all the details he could. Jax explained that Mac was continuing with the investigation but most people believed Brenda was in the morgue.
"She is alive, Jerry. She is not far, I can feel her."
"Jax, if you feel she is alive, then she is. I do not care what Mac Scorpio does or does not do. What about Corinthos?"
"One of his enemies is behind this but he has so many, he does not know where to even begin to look."
"I can't believe she is still in danger because of her past with him."
"Jerry, he warned me. I was so caught up in their past relationship that I did not listen to him. Now look what has happened."
"Jax, stop it. This is not your fault."
"I promised her I would keep her safe."
Jerry grabbed Jax by the shoulders. "We are going to find her and she and the baby will be safe."
The two men then talked strategy. They decided their first stop would be Smythe's Jewelers.
Miranda's Apartment -- 9:00am
Miranda was reading the cover story on Brenda's disappearance. She wondered if it was possible that Brenda was really dead. She couldn't believe her possible good fortune should the headline be true. Jax would need a great deal of love and support right now and she would be quite the willing provider.
Miranda decided to call Jax to see if there was anything she could do. She was startled and disgruntled when Jerry answered the phone.
"Hello, Jerry. I called to see if I can do anything for Jax. Is he there?"
"Miranda, you can do something for Jax now -- stay the hell away from him."
"Jerry, your brother is suffering now. I think I can be of some help."
"Miranda, my brother is going to be fine when his wife returns. You see I know Brenda and I bet my life she is clawing her way back to Jax now. Too bad his first wife did not share the same philosophy. Fortunately, he chose better this time."
"Jerry, that's enough."
"You are right, Miranda. Good-bye."
Smythe's Jewelers -- 10:00am
Jax and Jerry spoke to the salesman at the counter who confirmed that the saleswoman who sold the two bracelets earlier in the week was on vacation until next week. The salesman explained that the police had tried to reach the saleswoman at home but evidently she was out of town. Jax sighed as he realized they have hit a dead end. As he turned around, he noticed the security camera. He asked that the clerk provide them access to the videotapes from April 29th. The salesman said that the store owner would have to approve such a request. Jax removed a $100 bill from his wallet and asks if it will approve such a request. The sales clerk led them into the rear of the store where the tape library was kept. The clerk left them with the tapes from April 29th.
"Jax, what are we looking for?
"I have no idea but we have to start somewhere. The gift was delivered in the afternoon so the morning is our best bet."
They began reviewing the tapes. Jax found the portion of the tape where Sonny entered the store. Within a few moments of Sonny's exit from the store, a gentleman entered the store. After he had engaged in conversation with the saleswoman, the saleswoman removed a bracelet from the display case.
"Rewind that section, Jerry."
The section was replayed and Jax recognized the bracelet. Jax did not recognize the gentleman. Jax took the tape out of the viewing equipment and headed for the front of the store. The clerk confirmed that only two gold interlocking heart bracelets had been sold in the past fourteen days. Jax then said he needed the tape for the day. The sales clerk hesitated and Jax removed his Rolex and left it as a deposit for the return of the tape. Jerry headed to find a shop which could create photographic prints from the videotape while Jax went to police headquarters to check with Mac on the status of the case.
Warehouse 39 -- 1:00pm
Brenda had spent the past few hours trying to find an escape from her prison. No windows or floor vents existed. There was a small heating vent in the ceiling but there was no possible way to reach it. The only furniture in the room was the cot which is not tall enough to allow her to reach the ceiling. She also doubted that the cot would support her weight should she stand on it. As Brenda was pondering her dilemma, Harry walked into the room. He was carrying a plate of food.
"A feast for the resident mistress. We need to have you at your best when your lover arrives."
"Harry, what are you doing?"
"You will know soon enough as will your partner in sin."
"Harry, let me go while you still have the chance. Whatever this plan is of yours, it will not succeed. My husband is going to find me and you will go to jail."
"Your husband is not in a position to save you, Mrs. Jacks. He is not in a position to save anyone anymore."
As Harry left the room, he took great joy at the look of panic which appeared on Brenda's face. As frightening images began to run through her mind, Brenda started to rock back and forth with her arms tightly wrapped around her. She then shook the images from her mind as she remembered Jax's promises to be there for her always. "Nobody leaves, Jax. I have not forgotten that."
The Charles Street Foundation -- 3:00pm
Jax and Jerry were alone in the office. Jerry had the photographs and Jax had returned from his meeting with Mac. Jax knew that Mac believed Brenda was dead especially since there had been no calls for ransom or any other form of contact made to either Jax or the police since Brenda's disappearance. As Jax and Jerry were talking, A.J. walked into the office.
"Jax, what is the latest on the investigation?"
"The police have not come up with anything so I am going to have to figure this out myself."
"Do you really think Corinthos is involved in this?"
"I am convinced of it."
"I can't believe my brother is working for that mobster. He is going to end up dead unless he can get away from Sonny."
Jax picked up the photo and walked over to A.J.
"A.J. do you have any idea who this man is?"
"It looks like Sonny's former right hand man. His name is Harry but I do not remember what his last name is. I have not seen him around since Lily died."
The wheels started turning in Jax's head and Jerry immediately noticed the look of determination on Jax's face. A.J. picked up a folder from Keesha's desk and headed out telling Jax that everyone was praying for Brenda's safe return.
"What is it, Jax? What do you know about this Harry person?"
Jax remembered back to the day when the Jacks For Men feature was shot at the penthouse. Brenda had been so upset and apprehensive during the photo shoot. After the shoot, she had awakened from a nightmare and was very troubled. She finally had opened up to Jax and told him what had happened the night he had found her in the rain outside Kelly's. Jax recalled with vivid detail the pain streaming from Brenda's eyes as she told him of Sonny's plans to run away with her. Those plans had come to a screeching halt when Lily had announced her pregnancy. Sonny had chosen to remain with Lily and their child, thereby leaving Brenda alone again. The story had not ended there since Sonny's plans to leave Lily for Brenda had been leaked to Lily's father, setting in motion the plan to kill Sonny. Unfortunately the car bomb meant to kill Sonny had killed Lily and her unborn child instead. Brenda had felt tremendous guilt for her role in Lily's death.
Jax relayed some of these details to Jerry. He explained to Jerry that he had taken Brenda to Australia to take her mind off her guilt and sorrow. During their trip, Brenda had told Jax that someone very close to Sonny had provided the information to Lily's father. Jax began to believe that it must have been Harry who was working with Lily's father. Harry had to have known about Sonny's plan to leave Port Charles with Brenda. Jax knew Sonny would be the one to lead them to Brenda. He decided he needed the assistance of someone closer to Sonny's organization. He decided to find Patrick Cleary.
Sonny's Penthouse -- 7:00pm
Joseph was standing guard at the door and Jason was off meeting with Benny to determine if any information had been discovered about Brenda. The building manager called Sonny to report that the doorman had just accepted a package for Sonny. The building manager had sent his secretary up to the penthouse to deliver the package. Sonny ran to the front door just as the Joseph was checking the package. Sonny thanked the building manager's secretary and rushed into the penthouse with the package.
The package had contained a copy of the Jacks for Men ad and a dead rose. There was also a note which reads, "Meet me in the alley behind warehouse 45 alone at 11:30pm or tomorrow the ad will be her obituary." Sonny destroyed the note and sat down on the couch to determine his plan. A little while later Jason entered the penthouse.
"Sonny, Joseph said you received a package."
"Yes, they want a meeting at 2:00am tomorrow morning on the docks. Did you find out anything?"
"Still no word on the street. Nothing new from the police. Jax is convinced Brenda is alive and he has vowed to find her himself."
"Great. He will just end up getting everyone killed. I need some time alone to think things out. I want you to go to see Robin and come back at midnight. Then we will finalize our plans."
"I am not leaving you alone, Sonny."
"Joseph is here, Jason. Besides I pay you to do what I tell you. Go see Robin and cheer her up. This will all be over soon."
Jason reluctantly left. Sonny knew he had to do this alone for Brenda to have any chance. He couldn't take a chance that anyone would follow him. He knew the police were watching the building and garage but fortunately the police still do not know about the hidden exit of the garage.
Jake's Bar -- 10:00pm
Jax walked into the bar alone and sat down. He expected Patrick Cleary to make an appearance soon. Jerry was in a car outside of Sonny's penthouse garage. Fortunately, Brenda had mentioned the hidden exit to the garage to Jax once so Jerry was waiting across the street from this exit. He had passed the unmarked police car on the adjacent street across from the main exit of the garage.
Jax looked up and saw Patrick Cleary enter the establishment. Jax walked up to the bar and stood immediately behind Patrick Cleary. Patrick turned around and Jax motioned for him to follow him outside.
"Mr. Cleary, I need some information about a former associate of Sonny Corinthos and you are going to give it to me."
"I don't know what you are talking about."
"Stop the stonewalling. Tell me what you know about the current activities of Harry. I need everything you have."
"I'm sorry I can't help you."
Jax grabbed Patrick by the collar and shoved him against the brick wall. Jax also disarmed him. "Cleary, I have no patience for this. I have reason to believe that this man may have something to do with my wife's disappearance and you are going to give me the information."
"I don't have any information."
Jax again slammed Cleary against the wall and then put the gun to Cleary's head. "Maybe I did not make myself clear, you are going to give me the information. My wife's life depends on it and I will do whatever it takes."
Cleary told Jax that Harry Silver had left town after Lily Corinthos' death but rumors had been circulating that Harry's associates had been seen around the docks a few days ago. Patrick told Jax that the associates' names were Frankie Molino and Anthony Demino and that they had been seen in the warehouse area of the docks. Jax decided it was time to pay a visit to Sonny Corinthos. He informed Patrick Cleary that he was coming along for the ride.
Sonny's Penthouse -- 10:45pm
Sonny loaded his gun and put on his suit coat. He opened the door to speak to Joseph and told him to wait until Jason returned to give him his instructions. Sonny told Joseph he was going to check with the doorman about something and he would be right back. Sonny then walked toward the elevator and once he was out of Joseph's line of sight, he entered the stairwell and took the stairs to the garage. Jerry had been watching the entrance as Sonny's car appeared. Jerry allowed three cars to pass him before pulling away from the curb and joining in the traffic behind Sonny's vehicle. Jerry was splitting his time between following Sonny's car and ensuring that he himself was not being followed.
Shortly after Sonny left for his mysterious trip downstairs to talk to the doorman, Jason approached the penthouse. "What's going on, Joseph?"
"It has been quiet here. Mr. Corinthos asked me to wait for you to arrive while he went downstairs."
"He went downstairs alone. I was just there and there was no sign of Sonny." Jason entered the penthouse and checked the case where Sonny kept his gun. The case was empty. "Sonny, what have you done?"
Jason opened the door just as Jax and Patrick Cleary arrived. "What are you doing here, Jax?"
"I came to see your boss about my wife. Where is he?"
"He is not here right now. I am late for a meeting but I will tell him you are looking for him."
Jax's cellular phone rings and it was Jerry. Jerry told Jax that he was tailing Sonny. He told Jax that Sonny appeared to be alone with no driver or bodyguards.
"It looks like your boss decided he did not need any protection. Fortunately his travel is being monitored as we speak. We all know he is walking right into a trap."
"Where is he, Jax?"
"It seems to me that we have a mutual goal here Jason so I suggest you come with me. I am holding all the cards here so let me make myself clear that I am calling all the shots now. If this is not agreeable to you then Sonny is on his own. I would suggest that your associates tag along for the ride also."
"Let's go Jax. Joseph and Patrick, let's go."
"I presume you are all armed, Jason."
"Yes, I guess I can presume the same about you, Jax."
"That would be correct. Let's move."
Jax called Jerry and Jerry provided him with the details of Sonny's route thus far. Jax told Jerry he was on the way with back-up. Jason then called Robin and asked her some questions regarding Harry Silver. Robin explained to Jason that Harry had always been very protective of Lily. Jason told Jax that Sonny had received a note seeking a meeting but apparently Sonny had decided to handle the meeting alone. Jax shook his head as he realized without back-up, Sonny would only accomplish getting both he and Brenda killed.
Warehouse 45 alley -- 11:30pm
Jerry informed Jax of Sonny's destination and then followed Sonny along the docks. Jerry kept a very safe following distance as he knew Brenda would be killed if he was spotted. He saw Sonny enter an alley area of the warehouses and knew he could follow no further without being detected. Jerry waited for Jax and back-up to arrive.
Sonny reached the end of the alley and waited. His wait was very short as a figure appeared from the darkness. As the figure approached him, Sonny discerned his identity -- Harry Silver.
"Sonny, we meet again."
"Harry, where is she?"
"My, my I see you have not changed. You are still pining for a woman who does not belong to you. You have not learned from your past mistakes and it is time to pay up. It will cost you dearly."
"Harry, if you have harmed her in any way..."
Harry pulled out his gun. "Sonny boy, you are not in a position to make threats. This situation is the result of your own doing and you are going to deal with the consequences of your actions."
Sonny moved to pull out his gun and Anthony and Frankie appeared behind him. "Not a wise move, Sonny. Put your hands over your head or I will kill you here and then visit Brenda and put her out of her misery."
Sonny put his hands over his head and Anthony disarmed him. Frankie then handcuffed Sonny's hands behind him. They entered one of the warehouses and backtracked out of anyone's view as they moved toward warehouse 39.
Jax and his entourage arrived. Jerry explained that Sonny had gone into one of the alleys but Jerry had not seen anyone enter or exit the alley since. No sounds had been heard from the alley area. After a few moments of no sights or sounds from the alley, Patrick Cleary entered the alley area. He found no one and informed Jax of such. Jax and Jerry figured that Sonny and Brenda were in one of the warehouses. A massive search would have to be conducted to determine which warehouse was being used. Jax knew that once daylight arrived, a discreet search would be impossible. The group had six hours to discover the exact location of Brenda. Joseph stayed in the general vicinity of the warehouse area to observe any activity in the area while the other four men began their search.
Warehouse 39 -- 11:50pm
Anthony led Sonny into the warehouse. As they entered, Frankie knocked Sonny out from behind. Harry entered the room where Brenda was being kept.
"Well, your loneliness is over. You now have a guest."
Frankie and Anthony then dragged Sonny into the room and dumped him on the floor in the corner of the room.
"Sonny. My God what have you done to him?"
"Nothing a few hours of rest will not cure. Trust me you two will be reunited very soon."
Harry, Frankie and Anthony exit the room as Brenda rushed over to Sonny. He was breathing so she presumed he was knocked out just as she had been. Brenda began to sob as she surveyed her predicament. Memories of her life with Jax flooded her mind. She smiled as she remembered the first day she saw him playing pinball and the times he gave her flying lessons. She recalled the oyster feast from Ireland and the trip to Malibu. She remembered his devotion to her in the hospital while she had recovered from the hit and run and the night he had found her in the rain at Kelly's. Brenda knew Jax and their baby were the best things that had ever happened to her. She had to hold on now. Brenda sat back down on the cot and closed her eyes. She almost could feel his arms around her. As she laid back on the cot, she murmured, "We're here and we'll be waiting for you."

Warehouse 39 -- 4:00am
Brenda was tossing and turning on the cot in the dark room when she heard Sonny groan. "Sonny. Sonny. It's me."
"Brenda. Thank God you are all right."
"I am okay. Are you hurt?"
"No, I just have an extra bump on my head now."
"Sonny, what the hell is going on here?"
"I have not quite figured out the plan yet. Harry is obviously convinced that he has the power to pass judgment on me."
"The man is deranged. I know this has something to do with Lily."
"Brenda, Harry is the one that gave Lily's father the information about us."
"He betrayed you?"
"Yes, because I was going to betray Lily. He loved her like a daughter."
"Oh God, Sonny. What is he going to do with us?"
"Calm down. We need to figure a way out of this."
"Please tell me the police and Jason are around the corner contemplating how to get to us."
"Brenda, I came alone. I was afraid if I did not, then you would be killed. We will have to think of something ourselves."
Tears began to fall from Brenda's eyes. "Harry told me that everyone thinks I am dead. Please tell me about Jax. Please tell me he is safe."
"He is safe, Brenda. I also understand that he does not believe you are dead."
Brenda lets out a deep breath and whispers, "Thank you" to the heavens.
The Docks - 5:00am
Jax, Jerry, Jason, Patrick and Joseph met to compare information. Jason reported that there was some activity around Warehouse 51 but he had been unable to get close enough to determine if it was Harry and his associates. Jax had heard footsteps in the vicinity of Warehouse 37 but could find no one. Jerry and Anthony had found nothing from their searches. Joseph reported that Sonny's car was no longer in the parking lot where Sonny had left it. As the men were meeting, the sound of footsteps was heard in the distance. Jax motioned for the four others to take cover in the alley as he waited at the corner to get a better look. Jax saw a man approach, carrying a duffel bag. Jax motioned for Patrick to join him. Patrick recognized the man as Anthony Demino. Jax and Patrick watched as Anthony entered the alley between Warehouses 39 and 37. They could not afford to venture from their surveillance spot without being detected so they lost Anthony's trail once he headed into the alley. Jerry, Jason and Joseph joined Jax and Patrick.
"That's Anthony Demino, I am positive."
"Then they are in one of these adjacent warehouses. We just have to figure out which one."
Jax thought for a moment and then announced the next step in the plan. Joseph would remain as look-out while Jax and Jason would begin their ground searches around the adjacent warehouses. Jerry and Patrick would search from the roofs of the adjacent buildings.
Warehouse 39 -- 6:00am
Sonny had spent the past hour trying to figure a way out of this mess. He knew that Harry had at least two men and he couldn't chance a shoot out with Brenda present. The fact that Sonny was handcuffed did not help the situation. There appeared to be no escape from the room in which they were being imprisoned. Sonny and Brenda heard the door unlock and Harry entered.
"Well, the two star-crossed lovers are reunited once again."
"Harry, what the hell is your problem? Why are you doing this? Your problem is with me, not Brenda. Let her go."
"Your chivalry is admirable, Sonny-boy. Unfortunately Mrs. Jacks is the root of my plan. She caused pain and now she is going to suffer for that and you will be the interested spectator."
"Harry, you are crazy."
"No, I am the judge and the jury and the punishment has been set. We are going to right a past wrong. You watched the wrong woman and child die Sonny. Now it is time to correct that mistake. Believe me the right woman and child will die this time."
Brenda starts shaking at Harry's words. "Harry, you can't do this."
"Mrs. Jacks, I can do this and I will do this. Enjoy your time with her, Sonny. In a few hours it will all be over. Perfect timing I should say since one year ago I got a call from your lovely, devoted wife, Lily. She was panicked in the ski lodge because you left her to find your lost lover in a snowstorm. Sonny, you should have let Brenda die then and this would have all been avoided and Lily would still be alive. But you could not bear to not have Brenda in your bed. It was the beginning of the end for Lily and you all will have to pay the price for that."
Harry then left the room. Brenda began to sob uncontrollably as she buried her head into the cot. She had her hands wrapped tightly around her abdomen as she thought of Harry's threats against her baby. Harry's words echoed through Sonny's mind. Sonny was tormented by the pain this was causing Brenda right now. This couldn't be happening he thought. He had to find a way out of this for Brenda.
The Docks -- 8:00am
As it was now daylight, Jax and the others had taken cover in an abandoned warehouse across the street. During their latest surveillance, Jax again had noticed activity between Warehouses 37 and 39. Jerry thought he had seen a flash of light in Warehouse 39 while he had been stationed on the roof of Warehouse 38 across the street. Patrick, Jason and Joseph had nothing new to report.
"Jason, do you know where we can get a copy of the architectural designs for Warehouses 37 and 39?"
"Yes, I can get my hands on them."
"Good, go get them now and get back here with them. Take my car and when you return park the car at the other end of the docks."
Jason left and Jerry, as the least recognizable of the group, took the look-out shift. Jax and the others had to wait. Jax did not know how much longer he could take this.
Police Headquarters -- 11:00am
Mac had been in his office when Dr. Quincy entered with his report of the body found at the accident site off on Maple Drive. "Well, Dr. Quincy, what have you found?"
"The dental records prove that the body found at the crash site was not that of Brenda Jacks."
Mac sighed in relief. Robin had been so frantic at least he could have some good news for her. Mac's relief quickly subsided when he realized that Brenda had likely been kidnapped and the police had no leads whatsoever. He would have to speak with Jax and Sonny.
Mac called the Jacks' residence and Corrine told him that Jax had not returned home last night. Mac called the Foundation and Scott told him he had not seen Jax since before Brenda's disappearance. Jax's cell phone was not in service. Mac then tried to reach Sonny to no avail. He called Robin who told him that she had not heard from Jason since last night and she had been unable to reach either Sonny or Jason this morning. Mac shook his head. He knew Sonny, Jason and Jax were out there looking for Brenda and were taking a terrible risk with everyone's lives.
Mac called for Detective Taggert and informed him of the news from Dr. Quincy and the fact that Sonny, Jason and Jax were unreachable. He told Taggert to start a full scale search for Jax and Sonny.
The Docks -- 1:00pm
Jason had returned with the architect's plans for Warehouses 37 and 39. Jax decided that someone had to get inside to determine the specifics of the situation. Patrick and Jason volunteered to each get inside one of the warehouses. Patrick studied the plans to Warehouse 37 and Jason studied the plans to Warehouse 39. Both warehouses had fire escapes which led up to roof entrances to the building. This was determined to be the best entry route into the buildings.
Jerry donned a baseball hat and a leather jacket and would loiter around the alley area between the two warehouses. Joseph would walk the dock area to try to locate Sonny's car. Jax would remain on the top floor of the abandoned warehouse and monitor as much as he could of Patrick and Jason's progress with the use of high-powered binoculars.
Warehouse 39 -- 3:00pm
Jason had entered the roof entrance of the building. The top floor of the warehouse was void of light. Jason searched the top level and found nothing. He found the stairwell and eased the fire door open and then took the stairs to the level below. Meanwhile, Brenda and Sonny were trying to figure an escape from Harry's revenge plot. Sonny knew he needed to get out of his handcuffs but beating the metal cuffs against the wall had done nothing to loosen their hold on his hands. Brenda ran her hand through her hair in frustration with their situation and got an idea. She removed her barrette and pried the metal clip from the tortoise shell design. She moved over to Sonny and began to manipulate the handcuff locking mechanism with the clip. After several minutes, the lock gave way and the handcuffs opened.
Once his hands were finally free, Sonny hugged Brenda fiercely. He eventually released her from his arms and took her face in his hands. "I'm sorry, Brenda."
"Sonny, we do not have time for this now. How are we going to get out of here?"
"We will figure something out. I will protect you just like I promised."
"Stop saying that Sonny. You can't protect me, don't you realize that now?"
Jason had continued his search of the warehouse and had found nothing. He reached the main level of the warehouse and saw light coming from a corner office. Jason ducked around a corner and waited. He then saw Anthony Demino enter the area and walk into the room where the light was shining. Jason heard voices and ventured closer to the room. He could not decipher every word of the conversation but he clearly heard Anthony say that the problem would be solved this evening. Jason also heard Anthony mention the guests below. Jason knew that there was a basement level to the warehouse accessible by the basement stairwell but knew he could not get to that stairwell without being seen by Anthony. Jason headed back to the main stairwell to begin climbing back up to the roof exit of the building.
The Docks -- 5:00pm
Jax saw Jason appear on the roof of Warehouse 39. Patrick had already begun his way down the fire escape of Warehouse 37. Joseph had returned from his search for Sonny's car. He had found no trace of the car. No activity had been seen by Jerry in the alley area between the warehouses. Patrick arrived and informed Jax that he had found nothing in his search of Warehouse 37. Jason then joined the others.
"They're in there."
Jax took a deep breath. "Did you see her?"
"No, but I saw Demino. Whatever is going to happen will happen this evening. I searched all the areas except the basement level and did not find them. Demino made a comment about the guests below so they must be there."
"Give me the plans."
Jax and Jerry looked over the plans and the five men discussed strategy. They knew that time was also now their enemy since Harry intended to carry out his plan this evening.
Police Headquarters -- 6:30pm
Mac was completely frustrated. At this point, no one had seen Brenda, Jax, Sonny or Jason. Mac could not help but feel Sonny and Jax were trying to find Brenda on their own and Mac knew the danger involved in such. Miranda had called him earlier and had been upset because she had been unable to reach Jax. Mac had to listen to Miranda's rants about Brenda and her claims that Brenda was jeopardizing Jax's safety. Mac did not have the time to deal with Miranda's whining right now. Taggert walked into Mac's office. Taggert was miffed because he had no idea where Sonny was. Taggert's informants had been of no help as to Sonny's whereabouts. Detective Kelly then entered the office. He reported that Sonny's car had just been located outside the warehouse area of the docks. The car had been empty. Since it had been their only lead thus far, Mac told Detective Kelly to have an unmarked car remain with the vehicle in case some activity transpired around the vehicle. Mac told the detective to alert him should the car be moved.
Port Charles -- 8:00pm
Harry, Frankie and Anthony were discussing the final details to the plans. Anthony then left to move Sonny's car to the parking lot adjacent to Warehouse 39. Harry opened the safe in the office and removed the explosive device. His plan to avenge Lily's death was almost complete.
Meanwhile Sonny was trying to determine the best way to disarm Harry when he paid the next visit to them. Sonny then looked at Brenda and noticed a strange look on her face. "Sweetheart, what's wrong?"
Brenda grimaced. "I don't know. I don't feel well all of a sudden."
"Lie down. Are you going to be sick?"
Brenda winced again. "No, I am having cramps. Oh God, the baby."
"Close your eyes and relax. Think about something wonderful. Everything is going to be all right. Don't worry about anything."
Sonny stroked Brenda's cheek as she tried to forget her predicament. Memories of her life with Jax filled her mind. She remembered the wedding at St. Vincent's and the trip to Kronos. She recalled his reaction to the news of her pregnancy and the joy they experienced at hearing the baby's heartbeat for this first time. Sonny's face showed a pained expression as she drifted off to sleep murmuring Jax's name.
Jax and the others had gone over their plans in final detail. They had watched Anthony Demino exit the warehouse and would wait until his return before they entered the building. Jax was getting very impatient. He had suddenly been overcome with an ominous feeling about Brenda. He knew she needed him now.
As Anthony Demino entered Sonny's car, the unmarked police car began its clandestine pursuit. Mac was called and requested that the undercover unit inform him when the car reached its final destination.
Warehouse 39 -- 10:00pm
Anthony Demino had returned to the warehouse so Jax and the others made their move. Joseph would remain in the alley in case additional associates of Harry arrived. Jax had also instructed Joseph to call Mac Scorpio should any trouble arise.
Jax, Jerry, Jason and Patrick began their climb to the roof of the warehouse via the fire escape. Sonny was at the end of his rope. He had no idea what Harry had planned and now Brenda and the baby seemed to be in trouble. She was resting comfortably for the moment but Sonny knew he had to get her away from this nightmare.
Brenda was trying to push all negative thoughts from her mind but she was not succeeding. She needed Jax now and she did not even know if she would ever see him again. She began to weep as she realized how stupid she had been to end up in this situation. She had fallen right into Harry's trap because she had gone rushing off to find Sonny. Now her child could be paying the price. She did not know how Jax could ever forgive her.
The sound of footsteps approached the door. Sonny moved into the corner of the room and put his hands back behind his back as if they were still handcuffed. Harry entered the room and saw Brenda on the cot.
"Well, have the lovebirds made their final vows to one another?"
"Harry, let her go. Do what you want with me but leave her out of this. You accomplished your goal, you have me."
"Sonny. This is my goal. You are both going to pay for your sins. Lily should still be alive rather than Mrs. Jacks. You sacrificed Lily for Brenda now Brenda is going to be sacrificed because of you."
Brenda sat up. "Harry, please. You can't do this."
"My, my, Brenda. You certainly are a beautiful woman even in your final hours. You seem to have quite a power over men. Unfortunately for you, this dominion does not apply to me."
Sonny knew that their time was up so he moved toward Harry in an attempt to overtake him. Harry caught a glimpse of Sonny as he approached and drew his gun. He fired at Sonny, hitting him in the shoulder. Brenda screamed as Sonny fell to the floor.
"Sonny, that was not a smart move. Her time is up now." Harry then re-handcuffs Sonny and then leaves the room.
At the sound of the gun shot, Joseph immediately dialed Mac's number. He informed Mac of the situation and Mac alerted the available units and then also headed to the docks himself.
Jax, Jerry, Jason and Patrick had been heading down the stairwell to the main floor when they heard the gun shot. Jerry watched as Jax's face registered a look of shear panic. The men reached the main floor as Anthony and Frankie ran toward the basement stairs. Harry was climbing the stairs at that same moment.
"What happened? Are you all right?"
"I am fine. Mr. Corinthos decided to be a hero. I only wounded him so he still will be able to witness the death of his beloved. Is everything ready as planned?"
"Yes, boss."
"Give me a few minutes then I will call you to take Corinthos out to the parking lot. I will escort Mrs. Jacks myself." Harry walked into the office and picked up the vest and then walked back down the basement stairs to see Brenda and Sonny.
The architect's plans to the basement level only showed one interior room. The room had no windows or outside access so it was presumed to be the location where Brenda and Sonny were being held. There was a crawl space between the main floor and the basement level. The crawl space was accessible from a vent on the main floor and had an exit via the ceiling vent on the basement level. Jax and Jerry entered the crawl space via the main floor vent and carefully moved along the corridor to reach its exit to the basement floor.
Harry entered the room and immediately told Brenda to stand up. She stood up and Harry told her to put the vest on.
Amidst her flowing tears, Brenda slipped on the vest. Harry then secured the buckle of the vest with a padlock. As soon as Sonny saw the explosive device affixed to the vest, he screamed.
Jax and Jerry had reached the end of the crawl space. They dislodged the vent to gain access to the basement level. Jax lowered himself down slowly to reach the basement floor. Jerry then proceeded to do the same. As they heard Sonny's screams, Jax and Jerry then headed toward the opposite end of the basement to reach the interior office.
Anthony and Frankie were in the main floor office. Jason tossed a quarter across the floor outside the office and Anthony walked out into the corridor and Patrick knocked him out. Patrick disarmed Anthony while Jason sneaked into the office and overtook Frankie. Jason and Patrick then began to tie both men up and gagged them.
Mac, Taggert and some patrol units had now arrived on the scene. Joseph explained to Mac the plan to rescue Brenda. Mac was furious at the situation but decided that the safety of everyone involved dictated that he await some time of sign before storming the warehouse. Sonny was pleading with Harry as Brenda sat on the cot again, grimacing as her abdominal cramps returned. She was hysterical at this point. Harry told her she was just going to take a little trip to Sonny's car and then it would all be over. Harry removed the detonator from his pocket and smiled to himself as he thought that someone was finally going to pay for Lily's death.
Jax and Jerry approached the office and heard Harry's laughter amidst Brenda's hysteria. Jax could barely contain his emotions but knew he must in order to safely execute the plan. Jax and Jerry approached the open door as Harry was pulling Brenda from the cot at gunpoint. Amidst her tears, Brenda saw Jax approach the doorway. Although she believed she was seeing a mirage, Brenda fell back onto the cot to force Harry's attention to remain on her. As Harry grabbed her arm, Jax hit him over the head with the barrel of his gun. The detonator flew from Harry's hand and Brenda grabbed it before it hit the wall behind her. Jerry dragged Harry from Jax's feet as Jax reached for Brenda.
"Brenda."
"No, Jax, don't," screamed Brenda.
Sonny managed to finally get to his feet. "Don't touch her. She's wired with explosives, Jax."
"Dear God," muttered Jerry.
"Where is the detonator?"
Brenda couldn't find her voice but managed to hand the detonator to Jax. She then experienced another abdominal pain and fell back onto the cot.
Jax looked at Brenda with a complete look of panic. "Brenda, what's wrong?"
"She's in pain, Jax. She has been having cramps for the past few hours and needs to get to a hospital."
Jerry called for Jason and Patrick who quickly descended the stairs. He told them to get an ambulance and the bomb squad. They inform him that the police and rescue squad are already on the scene. Patrick headed back upstairs to get Mac and the paramedics.
The pain subsided and Brenda's tears started again. "Jax, it's the baby. I'm scared."
Tears formed in the corners of Jax's eyes as he took Brenda's hand in his. "Sweetheart, we are going to get you to the hospital and everything will be fine. Just hold on."
At that moment, Mac, Taggert and the paramedics walked in.
Mac saw the explosives attached to Brenda's vest. "Good Lord. Taggert get the bomb squad to the scene now."
One of the paramedics tended to Sonny's wound and the other approached Brenda. Suddenly the sound of ticking is heard throughout the room. Mac and Jax immediately jump at the sound. "The explosives are on an automatic timer. Get everyone out of here."
Jerry and Jason led Sonny and the paramedics from the warehouse. Mac knew the bomb squad would never make it in time so he would have to disarm the explosives himself.
Brenda stood up and looked at Jax. "Jax, I love you. Please go. I am begging you."
"I am not leaving you, my darling."
"Please. I love you so much I can't bear this."
"I love you more than life itself. If you are going to die then we will die together. I told you I could not live without you and I meant it."
Mac sighed aloud. "No one is going to die here. We just need to disarm these explosives. I need something to cut these wires."
Jax handed Mac the swiss army knife from his pocket and Mac studied the explosive's configuration and various wires. He snipped a wire and the ticking stopped. He then took the bolt cutter that the fire department had provided and cut the padlock from the vest. Brenda slipped out of the vest and into Jax's arms. Jax lifted her into his arms as she again experienced abdominal pain. Jax rushed her to the ambulance and they headed to General Hospital.

General Hospital Emergency Room-- 2:00am
Jax and Jerry were pacing the halls of the emergency room awaiting word on Brenda's condition. Dr. Meadows had just arrived and was examining Brenda. Jax was like a caged animal and Jerry was worried that his brother was about to completely fall apart.
"Jax, I think you should sit down. You have not slept in three days and Brenda is going to need you."
"Jerry, if anything happens to her or the baby ..."
Jerry interrupted him. "Jax, the doctors are doing everything they can. Let's have some faith here."
"If I only could have gotten to her sooner."
"Stop it, Jax. Do not punish yourself over this. You have a very strong lady in there, don't count her out."
Jax almost cracked a slight smile at Jerry's words. Brenda was one of the strongest women he knew. His mind drifted to the ambulance ride. She had held his hand so tightly that he could have sworn that the he had lost the blood circulation in his fingers. She was so scared. He assured her everything would be fine but he knew now that he had no control over the situation.
Jerry went to call John and Jane as Jason and Robin walked into the emergency room area.
Robin rushed over to Jax. "How are Brenda and the baby?"
"We don't know yet. Dr. Meadows is in with her now running some tests."
"Jax, I know that they are both going to be fine. You all have come through too much for it to be any other way."
"Jax, I hope everything turns out okay. We are going to check on Sonny now. He is about to go into surgery to have the bullet removed."
"Thank you, Jason. You were a tremendous help in rescuing Brenda and I will never forget that."
As Robin and Jason left Jax, Dr. Meadows entered the corridor. "Dr. Meadows, how is she?"
"She had been through quite an ordeal, Jax. You all have. She is dehydrated and has experienced some signs of pre-term labor. The stress she has been under the past few days has invariably caused these problems. She is being given fluid intravenously and is on magnesium to stop the cramping she has experienced. There has been very little bleeding so this is a good sign. We are running blood tests and monitoring the baby's heart rate. I am going to check on another patient and then come back and do an ultrasound."
"Can I see her now?"
"Yes, she is anxious to see you. Please do anything you can to ease her mind and calm her fears. I do not want her speaking to the authorities about the kidnapping. Brenda needs to be as free as possible of any stress right now. She needs your love and support now more than anything else."
Jerry rounded the corner as Dr. Meadows left Jax. "How are things?"
"We do not know yet. I am going to go see her. Why don't you go home and get some sleep?"
"No, I am not leaving you. I will be out here if you need me. Give Brenda my love."
"Thank you, Jerry. Thanks for everything."
"Anytime, brother."
Jax walked into the cubicle area. Brenda was resting with her eyes closed. She was hooked up to a fetal monitor and multiple IV lines. She looked so fragile that Jax had to stop to compose himself. He walked over to her and pulled a chair up to the side of the bed. He took her hand in his and brought it to his lips. Brenda stirred and then opened her eyes.
"Hello, my love."
"Hi. Did you talk to Dr. Meadows?"
"Yes. We are all going to get through this, Brenda."
"Jax, I am so sorry."
"That's enough. This isn't your fault. I don't want you thinking that for one second."
"Jax, if anything happens to this baby .."
"Brenda, nothing is going to happen to either of you. Our daughter is just like her mother and just needs a little extra attention."
Brenda smiled and the sight of it caused Jax's heart to flutter.
"No, our son is trying to be a show-off like his father."
Jax bent down toward Brenda's stomach. "Do you hear what your mother is saying? She is lying in a hospital bed insulting me."
Dr. Meadows then wheeled in the ultrasound equipment.
Brenda's apprehension returned and she grabbed Jax's hand tightly. Jax kissed her forehead and mouthed the words, "I love you" to her. Dr. Meadows applied the gel to Brenda's abdomen and began to move the equipment over her abdominal area. Dr. Meadows zoomed in on the image to get a closer look in the monitor. The monitor was positioned at the time so that only Dr. Meadows could view it.
"Is everything all right?"
"Well Brenda, I do not see any sign of extensive bleeding or any type of rupture in the membranes. That is a very good sign. Everything looks as it should for a pregnancy of about twenty weeks. I know you and Jax do not want to know the baby's sex but your child is being shy right now so the sex is not determinable. I will turn the monitor so you can have a look."
Brenda's face lit up as she saw the monitor. The image of the baby was so much more defined than it had been when she had her first ultrasound. As she and Jax watched the monitor, the baby began to move its left arm.
"Look he is waving at us, Jax."
"No, she is pointing and laughing at us for giving her this much attention."
Brenda took a deep breath as Dr. Meadows turned off the equipment. Jax was sitting on the bed behind her with his arms around her.
"Brenda, I want you to get some rest now. The magnesium seems to be taking effect. We are not out of the woods yet but things have stabilized. I will be back in the morning to check on you."
"Thank you, Dr. Meadows. I will see you in the morning."
Jax got up from the bed and slid Brenda under the covers. He sat back in the chair next to the bed and stroked her cheek. "Go to sleep, darling. I will be right here."
"Jax, you are exhausted. Go home and sleep in our bed and get some rest."
"I am not leaving you. Besides, I would not get any sleep in our bed without you there."
"Jax, I love you. I know we have to talk about all this."
"Shhh. I don't want you thinking about that now. Just know that I love you. Sweet dreams, my angels."
General Hospital Emergency Room -- 8:00am
Brenda awakened to find Jax sitting in the chair beside her. She had slept most of the night and had only had one episode of abdominal cramping in the past few hours. "Please tell me I am not dreaming."
"You are safe, Brenda."
"Did you sleep at all, Jax?"
"Don't worry about me. Just concentrate on the baby and yourself." Jax had not slept a wink. He could not bear to let Brenda out of his sight for even a moment. She had cried out once in her sleep for him and he knew she was reliving the nightmare. His heart was breaking as he thought of the hell she had been through.
"I will worry about you, thank you. You are my husband. Am I going to have to call your brother to come get you?"
"He has not left here. He is in the waiting room."
"You both are ridiculous. Please go down to the cafeteria and get some coffee and something to eat. You can send Jerry in to ensure that I do not run off with that cute resident."
"Aren't you the comedian?"
Jax kissed her and walked out of the cubicle. Jerry then walked through the door and entered the cubicle area. "Hey, you look much better than you did last night. How are you feeling?"
"Much better. The pain seems to have subsided."
"I am sure everything will be fine. You know how stubborn we Jacks can be, even those not quite yet born."
"I know how protective and determined you Jacks can be. Jerry, thank you for being there for me and for Jax."
"Do not mention it. Like you said we Jacks are protective and determined and you certainly proved you are quite a Jacks yourself. I am sorry for everything you had to go through."
"It's all over now thanks to you, Jax and the rest."
"He would have searched the world for you. Do you have any idea how much he loves you, Brenda?"
"Yes, Jerry. Trust me I will never take it for granted."
General Hospital Surgical Floor -- 9:00am
Mike, Jason and Robin were sitting in Sonny's room when he awakened. "Michael, it's your father. How are you feeling?"
"Just peachy, Mike. God I hate hospitals."
"Hi, Sonny. I am so glad you are all right."
"Robin, when did you get back to town?"
"I came when Uncle Mac called about Brenda's disappearance."
"Oh God, Brenda. How is she?"
"I just spoke to Jerry and she and the baby seem to be holding their own right now. We are all praying for them."
Sonny closed his eyes as the gravity of the situation overwhelmed him. Mike saw the familiar pained expression on his face.
"Michael, you know how tough and stubborn Brenda is. She is not going to let anything happen to that baby."
"I pray that you are right, Mike. Otherwise I could never live with myself."
"Is there anything you need, Sonny?"
"Yes, Jason. Take Robin and get her something to eat. Then find out how Brenda and the baby are."
Jason and Robin left the room and Mike's face showed a look of concern. "Spit it out, Mike."
"Sonny, let her go. I am begging you."
"Do you have any idea what you are asking?"
"Yes, I do. But, it's the only way, son."
General Hospital Emergency Room -- 11:00am
Dr. Meadows entered the cubicle area with the results of the latest blood work and test results. "Good morning, Brenda. It seems we had a quiet night."
"Yes, thankfully. What do the test results show?"
"The magnesium has stopped the cramping and your fluid levels are showing improvement."
"That's a positive sign, isn't it?"
"Yes it is, Brenda. I still need to monitor the situation so we are going to move you to a room in the obstetrics unit. I want to keep you for a few days to be sure that things remain stable. In the meantime, I want you to remain positive."
Brenda took Jax's hand. "We can both do that."
"Good, I am going to arrange for your transfer to the obstetrics floor."
Jax kissed Brenda gently on the lips. "Sweetheart, she is a survivor just like her mother."
"He is a fighter just like his father."
"Well, I have always considered myself more of a lover than a fighter."
"We will just have to put that to the ultimate test once I get out of here and everything is okay."
"I want you to know that I will insist on being given numerous opportunities to prove my case."
"I guess I can make the extreme sacrifice in order to render a fair judgment."
General Hospital Obstetrics Unit -- 2:00pm
Brenda had been moved to a private room and had finally convinced Jax to go home to change and get a change of scenery. She was resting when she heard footsteps enter the room. She opened her eyes to see Robin's smiling face.
"Robin, how are you?"
"I'm fine but I should be asking you that question."
"We are keeping our fingers crossed but everything is okay for now."
"I know it will all work out, Brenda. I can feel it."
"From your lips to God's ears. When do you head back to school?"
"Jason is going to bring me back later this evening."
"Have you seen Sonny?"
"Yes. He had surgery earlier this morning but he is going to be fine. He asked about you and the baby."
"I need to stop worrying about him and he needs to stop worrying about me. Unfortunately, that is a lot easier said than done."
"I know, Brenda. You will figure out how to deal with it."
"I hope so because all we are doing is hurting each other and those around us. I can't hurt Jax any longer. He and this baby are my life now and Sonny needs to move on as well."
"Brenda, I think you should just rest now. All the rest can be dealt with later. I am going to leave you now but I will call you later in the week to check on you. I love you."
"I love you too, Robin."
General Hospital Surgical Unit -- 3:00pm
Jason and Sonny were talking when Robin entered the room. "Don't argue with me, Jason. I want you to have a car take you and Robin back to New Haven."
"Sonny, I can take my bike."
"Jason take the limo. Enjoy some time with your beautiful lady."
"All right, Sonny. I will be back before you get released."
"Don't worry about it, Jason."
"Thanks, Sonny. We appreciate it."
"Anything for you, Robin."
"Sonny I wanted to let you know that I saw Brenda and she is okay."
"What about the baby?"
"Everything seems stable now. Now, promise me that you will concentrate on your own health."
"Yes, ma'am. I want you guys to get moving, Jason. Robin has class in the morning and needs to get her rest. I will be fine."
"Okay, we will go."
"Good-bye, Sonny. I will call you."
"Good-bye, sweetheart."
The Jacks' Residence -- 5:00pm
Jax was packing up some things to take to Brenda when Corrine announced that Miranda was in the living room. Jax descended the stairs and entered the living room as Miranda was admiring the painting over the fireplace.
"Hello, Miranda."
"Picasso. Quite a step up from sand drawings on the beach."
"Yes, you could say that."
"The house is lovely. Brenda must have had quite a bit of help."
"Actually, she designed most of it herself."
"I heard you found Brenda and Sonny in the nick of time. It must have been terrible for them to be cooped up in a small room together thinking that the end was coming. I'm sure it made for some real soul searching for the two of them."
"Miranda, I really do not want to think about the hell Brenda went through."
"Jax, I just wanted to make sure you were okay and that you did not need anything. I was so worried when I heard that you had undertaken this rescue operation on your own."
"Thank you for your concern but I am fine. Brenda and the baby are my only worries now."
"I understand from Mac that things are better with the baby."
"Yes, we are very hopeful."
"That is wonderful, Jax. Well, I need to get back to the Outback. I just wanted to see for myself that you were okay. Give my best to Brenda."
Jerry then walked through the front door and entered the living room once he heard Miranda's voice.
"Miranda, what a surprise."
"Well, I will leave you two to talk. I need to finish packing for Brenda. Good-bye Miranda. Thank you for your concern and best wishes."
"What are you doing here?"
"I came to see if I could do anything for Jax and to make sure he was okay."
"Miranda, Jax will be okay once his wife and unborn child are home with him and you are out of his life. When are you going to realize that it is over for you two?"
"Jerry, it will never be over. We love each other. I know that this whole mess with Sonny Corinthos and Brenda has brought back memories for Jax about the explosion when he thought he lost me."
"Stop. You are quite delusional, aren't you? First of all, Jax does not love you. He loves that woman who is in the hospital fighting for their child's life. Secondly, Jax did not lose you in the explosion, you chose to leave him. Lastly, I saw Jax after your little death ploy and as devastated as he was, it does not compare in the least to what he felt when he realized Brenda was missing. He never believed her to be dead and he still mourned her more intensively than he ever mourned you. He loves her more than life itself, Miranda."
"Jerry, you do not know what you are talking about. You don't know what we mean to each other."
"Miranda, give it up. It is over and you have no one to blame but yourself. You chose to play dead so that Jax could move on and now he has. Live with it."
"Jerry, she can't make him happy."
"That's enough, Miranda. I am warning you to stay out of their lives or face the truth being revealed."
"Jerry, you can't do that."
"Just watch me. I suggest you leave now and make this your final trip to Jax and Brenda's home."
General Hospital Obstetrics Unit -- 8:00pm
Brenda's face lit up as Jax walked through the door.
"Hello, beautiful. How are the two most cherished people in my life?"
"Better now that you are here. We missed you."
"I missed you too. You are certainly much prettier to look at than Jerry. He sends his love as do Mum and Dad."
"Are Jane and John okay? I am sorry I frightened them with all this."
"They are fine. They are just relieved that you are safe. I brought you some things." He then opened up the bag.
"What is in that bag?"
Jax pulled out a robe, hairbrush and Brenda's cosmetic bag. He then pulled out the teddy bear they purchased from Wyndham's.
"Fuzzy Bear, "Brenda murmured as she took the bear and hugged it.
"I have a surprise for you."
"What is it?"
"Guess. I will tell you that it is a dairy product."
"Jax, if you brought me yogurt and bananas, you are going to be wearing it."
Jax laughed at her phony indignation. "Will you settle for this?"
He pulled out a pint of Ben and Jerry's cherry garcia ice cream and two spoons.
"Ice cream. Now I know why I love you so much."
Jax handed her a spoon and between kisses, they fed each other the ice cream. Their laughter filled the room and was carried into the corridor. A nurse walked by the open door and she smiled as she catches a glimpse of them. She sighed as she realized that she was witnessing something truly special.

General Hospital Surgical Unit -- 10:00am
Sonny had been released and Jason was helping him with his bag. As they awaited the elevator, Sonny remembered the night before when he had walked the floors of the hospital. He had found himself in front of the nursery window looking at all the newborn babies. Harry's plot against them had brought back all the memories of the night that Lily and their baby were killed in the explosion.
Once Sonny left the nursery, he passed the corridor leading to the obstetrics unit. He wanted so much to see Brenda and ensure that she and the baby were okay. He convinced himself that his presence may not be the best thing for her so he forced himself to return to the surgical unit.
As the elevator doors opened, Miranda walked out. "Sonny, I was just coming to see you after dropping Katherine off for her physical therapy. How are you?"
"I am surviving, Miranda."
"That's good to know. I want to talk to you when you are up to it and find out exactly what happened. Maybe we can have dinner some night soon."
"We'll see. Good-bye Miranda."
Charles Street Foundation -- Noon
Miranda entered the office to find Scott on the phone. Although he had not yet moved to Port Charles with Serena, Scott was in town to handle some pressing matters. Jax was going to spend the week with Brenda and Jerry was heading to the west coast later this evening to handle some distribution problems at the Los Angeles plant site so Scott had offered to remain in Port Charles for the week. He was scheduled to relocate to Port Charles later in the month.
As she sat down at the desk, she glanced over at the newspaper article which discussed Harry Silver's arrest and the details of the rescue effort. Scott finished his call and addressed Miranda.
"Hello, Miranda."
"Hi, Scott. I see they have you quite busy holding down the fort."
"I am just glad I could help. I know Jax wants to spend time with Brenda. I am just so happy for them that everything worked out."
"It is fortunate, isn't it?"
"Jerry was here earlier, you just missed him. He wanted to get back to see Brenda before he left for Los Angeles this evening."
Miranda breathed a sigh of relief. Jerry was the last person she wanted to see now. She knew that Brenda would have Jax at her mercy for the next few days. She could just imagine Brenda playing the martyr and queen of melodrama. She needed a new plan of attack. "Scott, I know you are very busy so if there is anything I can do to help, please let me know."
"You have been a tremendous help to me already. I am going to miss you when we move the executive offices."
"Oh, I won't be far and I have a feeling we will be seeing quite a bit of one another. Now in the meantime, can I treat you to lunch? I will go over to Kelly's and pick up something special."
"That is not necessary, Miranda."
"It will be my pleasure, Scott. We need to get to know one another. I can tell you about my experience in Port Charles as a new resident and you can give me your perspective as a returning citizen. I'll be right back."
"Thank you, Miranda."
"Don't mention it, Scott. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
General Hospital Obstetrics Unit -- 2:00pm
Since things had remained stable for the past two days, Brenda was being discharged today. She was dressed and Jax was packing up her bag when Dr. Meadows entered the room.
"I see we are ready to get out of here."
"We certainly are."
"Here are your discharge papers. Now I want you to remember what we discussed. I want you to take it easy for the next few weeks. I want you to get as much bed rest as possible. For the time being, I am going to have to ask that you discontinue your exercise program and avoid sexual relations. You should also avoid as much stress as possible. If you experience any recurrence of the symptoms, call me immediately. I have scheduled an appointment for you at the end of the month, but do not hesitate to call me before then with any questions or problems."
"Don't worry, Dr. Meadows. I will see to it that she is properly taken care of."
"We can't thank you enough for everything."
"Brenda, I am just happy that everything worked out. You both should consider yourselves very lucky."
Brenda took Jax's hand. "I consider myself the luckiest person in the world right now."
The orderly wheeled Brenda out of the room in the wheelchair as she hugged Fuzzy Bear in her arms and Jax carried her suitcase and flowers.
The Jacks' Residence -- 3:00pm
As she saw the car approach the house, Corrine alerted Jerry. Jerry had picked up several balloons and banners on his way back from the Foundation and Jax had ordered several flower arrangements to be delivered. Lila had sent Reginald over earlier this morning with the first roses of the season from her rose garden. Corrine had arranged them and placed them in the master suite.
Virgil brought in Brenda's bag and flowers as Jax carried her into the house. Jerry and Corrine were standing in the foyer waiting to greet her. As Brenda saw the welcome home banners, balloons and flowers, tears formed in her eyes.
"Welcome home, darling."
"Welcome back, sis."
"It is so wonderful to have you home, Mrs. Jacks."
"Thank you all. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of this. It is so good to be back home."
"Yes, and now it is time for you to get into bed, sweetheart."
"Jax, I have been in bed for the past 2-1/2 days. It's so beautiful this afternoon, I want to go out onto the terrace."
"You are going to be a nightmare of a patient aren't you?"
"Of course." She winked at Jerry as Jax carried her onto the terrace and gently eased her onto the chaise lounge.
"Are you cold? Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?"
Brenda gently caressed Jax's cheek. "No, I am fine. Please stop worrying about me."
Jax raised his hand to his cheek and covered her hand. He whispered, "That would be impossible. I almost lost you both." He then softly kissed the palm of her hand.
Brenda raised her other hand to wipe the tear streaming down Jax's cheek. "We're here and we're okay. You saved us, darling."
Jerry walked out onto the terrace. "Sorry to interrupt but I want to say good-bye before I head to Los Angeles."
"Jerry, I'll leave you with this lovely lady. I want to call Mum and Dad and tell them we are home." Jax then walked into the house.
"Well, sis, it has been an eventful trip."
"Jerry, thank you for everything. I know Jax could not have gotten through this without you."
"I'm glad I could help him this time. Hopefully it will help to make up for my past mistakes with him."
"He loves you very much."
"I know. Brenda, he loves you more than anything in this world. Take care of yourself and the newest Jacks to be. I love you."
"I love you, Jerry. Take care of yourself."
Jerry went back into the house and met Jax in the foyer.
"Jax, I will call tomorrow once I figure out the problem in the distribution center."
"Jerry, I don't know what I would have done without you. I will never forget this."
"That's what a family is for, Jax. Now go to your wife."
"Have a safe trip."
As Jerry began to climb the stairs, he stopped. "Jax."
"Yes, brother."
"I want you to know that for the first time in my life, I am envious of you. I hope you realize what you have."
Believe me, I do."
Sonny's Penthouse -- 6:00pm
Mike was in the kitchen fixing dinner when Jason arrived. "Sonny, how are you feeling?"
"I am fine, Jason. You can stop asking me that."
Mike entered the room with a pot of spaghetti. "Dinner is served."
As they ate dinner, Sonny brought up the rescue operation and asked Jason of the details. "Jason, how in the world did you ever locate us in that warehouse?"
"Actually Sonny, Jax and his brother figured out that it was Harry and you were followed to the docks."
"Jax knew it was Harry? How the hell did that happen?"
"Evidently he went to Smythe's Jewelers and got the videotape from the day you picked up the bracelet. Harry was on the tape."
"How did he even know who Harry was?"
"He had a print made from the videotape and A.J. recognized the photo and then Jax put two and two together. Evidently Brenda had filled Jax in on your plans last year to leave Port Charles with her."
Mike chimed in. "Sounds like Mr. Jacks has had some training in detective work."
"Sonny, the guy may be a jerk at times but he certainly handled himself under pressure. He called all the shots and it worked. There was no way he was going to come out of there without Brenda."
Mike looked straight at Sonny. "Well, it is good to know that Brenda does not have to worry since her husband is so capable of taking care of her."
"Mike, knock it off. We get the point."
"I hope so, Sonny."
The Jacks' Residence -- 9:00pm
Brenda dressed for bed and then walked into the nursery and put Fuzzy Bear back onto the shelf. As she looked at the cradle, her hands moved to her expanding stomach. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes as the gravity of the tragedy that could have occurred hit her. A sob was trapped in her throat as images of the kidnapping flashed through her mind.
Jax walked into the nursery and his heart broke as he saw the pain on her face. Tears freely fell from his eyes as he walked over to Brenda and took her into his arms. They clung to each other for dear life.
"Let it out, Brenda." Jax massaged her back as the tears flowed and her throat released her sobs. "You are safe. We are all safe."
After holding one another for a few minutes, Jax lifted Brenda into his arms and carried her into the bedroom. Brenda got into bed while Jax undressed. He climbed into bed and Brenda instantly snuggled deeply into his arms. "I missed this bed so much."
"I missed sharing this bed with you."
"Jax, I need to say something."
"Brenda, there is no need."
"Yes, there is. I want you to know how sorry I am for walking into Harry's trap. Again I thought I could be of some help to Sonny but I know now I can't help him. He isn't my life anymore, you and this baby are. I almost cost us everything and I do not know how you can ever forgive me."
"Brenda, there is nothing to forgive. You did not intentionally end up in a precarious situation, it happened. I feel responsible for all this because I did not adequately protect you. Sonny warned me about the danger you were in but I did not heed his warnings. I will never forgive myself for allowing you to be put in such danger."
"Jax, don't punish yourself for something you had no control over. You are not responsible for this in any way. Our baby and I are here because of you. You protected us when no one else could."
"I guess this is a case of mutual absolution. I just want you to know that I love you more than anything in this world, Brenda."
"Jax, words can't begin to describe the love I feel for you."
Jax took his hand and lifted her chin as their lips met. The kiss was soft and slow and when their lips finally parted, they held each other closely. They spent the rest of the night entwined in each other's arms, reveling in the depth of their love.

The Jacks' Residence -- 9:00am
Brenda and Jax had spent the past few days together relaxing around the house. Jax had spent every moment catering to Brenda's every need. He had convinced her that now was not the time to be learning how to cook so they had hired Jose to prepare their meals. As much as Brenda craved attention, even she had reached her limit. She had convinced Jax to go to the Foundation and catch up on some work. It was time to start getting their lives back to some semblance of normalcy. Jax was dressing while Brenda sat up in bed.
"Do you have any idea how handsome you are?"
"Well, occasionally angels appear before me and tell me such."
"Angels, huh? Well as long as you are sure they are angels, I am willing to share."
"I will be sure to tell them. Now, I need you to reassure me that you are going to take it easy today."
"I, Brenda Jacks, do solemnly swear to take it easy today while my handsome husband reenters the real world."
"Very funny. Corrine and Virgil will be available should you need anything. I will have my cell phone with me at all times so you can reach me if you need me."
"Darling, I will be fine. Please do not worry."
"It's a beautiful day. You should get out and get some fresh air."
"Aye, aye, sir." Brenda then gave Jax a mock salute.
"Okay, I get the hint. I know I have been driving you crazy."
"Honey, come here." Jax sat down next to Brenda on the bed. "Do you know how much I love you?"
"Yes, sweetheart."
"I just want us to move on with our lives. You have a business to run and I don't want you to have to worry about us every minute."
"I would have nothing without you and our baby, Brenda."
"And we would be nothing without you, Jax. We just know that we have to share with the rest of the world at times. Now, get off to the office so you can come back to us."
"Okay. Do you have anything special planned today?"
"As a matter of fact, I am going to take care of something rather important. Do not worry, I am going to stay right here and I promise not to exert myself. Now where is my good-bye kiss?"
Jax kissed her good-bye and headed off to the Foundation.
Kelly's -- 9:30am
Sonny was having breakfast alone when Miranda walked through the doors. She stopped by his table on her way to the counter. "Well, you don't look any worse for the wear."
"Is that a compliment, Ms. Jameson?"
"No, just an observation."
At that moment, Sonny's cell phone rang. "Hello, this is Sonny."
"Sonny."
"Brenda, how are you?"
"I am okay. I need to see you. Can you come to the house?"
"Sure. When?"
"1:00pm."
"I'll be there."
"I'll see you then. Good-bye."
Sonny shook his head and put his phone back in his pocket.
"Did I hear you correctly? Are you meeting, Brenda?"
"Nosy this morning, aren't we?
"Just a little curious. So Brenda is up for visitors or at least one special visitor? Interesting, very interesting."
The Charles Street Foundation -- 10:00am
Scott and Justus were sitting at the conference table when Jax walked through the door.
"Hey, hey. It's the resident Sherlock Holmes. How are you Jax?"
"I'm okay, Justus."
"And how are Brenda and the baby doing?"
"Great, thank you."
"Jax, I know what it is like to be in fear for a loved one. I am so happy that Brenda and the baby are safe."
"I appreciate it, Scott, and I appreciate all the work you have put in while I have been otherwise occupied."
"There is no need to mention it. I am surprised you are in today. I thought you would not be back until next week."
"My wife threw me out of the house. Seems that I was suffocating her."
"You are a better man than most. I did not think it was possible to stifle Brenda."
"Believe me, Justus, it is not easy."
Scott piped in. "I bet there are thousands of men who would like to try just for a chance at the view."
Miranda then walked into the office. "Jax, this is quite a surprise. You certainly look much better than the last time I saw you."
"I am much better, Miranda. I want to thank you for all your help over the past week. Scott tells me that you have been indispensable to him."
"Jax, anything I can ever do for you or J & J Jacks, I will gladly undertake."
"Thank you, Miranda."
Miranda walked over to her desk and Jax followed. He picked up the stack of the most recent grant applications and began to study them.
"How is Brenda feeling?"
"Good. Thank you for asking."
"I figured she must be feeling better if she is having guests."
Jax's face registered a look of surprise.
"Well, I happened to be in Kelly's earlier this morning when she called Sonny and evidently set up a visit with him."
Jax's eyes showed a slight degree of concern before he resumed his review of the grant applications. His expression made it clear to Miranda that Jax was unaware of the little visit. Maybe things were not as bad as she had thought. She would still continue to assist Scott in connection with her plan to become a permanent fixture at J & J Jacks.
The Jacks' Residence -- 1:00pm
Brenda was out on the terrace. She had asked for Corrine to show Sonny to the terrace when he arrived. The french doors opened and Corrine led Sonny onto the terrace. She quickly excused herself after bringing out some refreshments from Jose.
"You look wonderful. Are you really all right?"
"Yes, thank you. How is your shoulder?"
"I'll live."
"Good."
"You said you needed to see me. What is this about, Brenda?"
"Sonny, we can't do this anymore. I can't do this anymore. I almost lost the two most important things in my life and I can't take that chance again."
"What are you saying, Brenda?"
"Sonny, it's over. I finally said it out loud. After almost two years, I can finally say it. I never thought I could but I did and I am still here breathing."
"Brenda, I love you. God, I know it may be a mistake but I do."
"Sonny, I loved you so much it hurt. We were in love but we never figured out how to love each other without hurting one another. I still love you, I probably always will. But, I am not in love with you any longer. I am in love with Jax and I can't do anything to jeopardize that."
"Brenda, I do not know what you want me to do."
"Let me go, Sonny. For your own sake as well as mine, please."
Tears are running down Sonny's cheek. "Do you know what you are asking? I loved you more than I have ever loved anyone. You reached parts of me that I never even knew existed."
"Sonny, you need to move on and meet someone who can love you with all her heart. My heart belongs to Jax. I am so happy with him that sometimes I have to pinch myself to ensure that I am not dreaming. I want you to find happiness with someone too."
"We were happy. We could have had it all."
"Sonny, we would have destroyed each other. We almost did. Just be honest with yourself now. How long could we have lasted? We are two very different people in a lot of ways."
"How do you expect me to just walk out of here and forget you?"
"I am not asking you to forget me. I will never forget you. You will always own a small piece of my heart. You were my first real commitment. You taught me the meaning of loyalty and importance of trust. I would not be the person I am today if it were not for you. You will always be a part of me. We have people like Robin, Jason, Lois and Mike that we both love. We will always be a part of each other's lives because of that."
"Brenda, I never meant to hurt you."
"I know that Sonny. I never meant to hurt you but I did. We hurt each other. I need you to give me up Sonny. It is as much for your own good as it is for mine. I have a life with Jax and this baby. I will not give that up for anything. I did not realize how important everything was to me until I almost lost it."
"Is this you talking or has Jax asked you to do this?"
"Sonny, I have to do this for myself. I have everything I ever wanted. I am in love with Jax and he loves me unconditionally. We are having a child together. I want to spend the rest of my life with him."
"So it's finally over?"
"It was over a long time ago but neither of us wanted to admit that. We have to acknowledge it now so we can move forward."
Sonny could not look at Brenda. Tears were now seeping from the corners of her eyes. She rose from the chaise lounge and walked over to him. She knelt down beside him.
"We have to say good-bye."
"I don't think I can."
"Yes, you can. You have to, Sonny. It is the only way. You're a survivor, remember?" Brenda kissed him on the cheek and then took his hand for a moment. "Sonny Corinthos, thank you for everything that you ever meant to me. Thank you for loving me and now thank you for being my friend. I will never forget you."
Brenda got up and walked toward the set of french doors.
"Brenda, does that husband of yours realize how lucky he is?"
"We both consider ourselves very lucky."
"Good. You deserve to be happy. You deserve to be the happiest woman in this world."
"I honestly feel that I am, Sonny."
Brenda then walked inside and went up the stairs. She entered the master suite and collapsed on the bed. Tears freely fell as waves of relief hit her. She stroked her stomach as she realized it was finally over. She was finally ready to move on. Sonny was now fully in her past and Jax was her future. She felt free for the first time in years.
The Jacks' Residence -- 8:00pm
Jax and Brenda had just finished dinner. Brenda had her head in his lap and was lying on the couch in the den. Jax had brought Brenda up to date on the developments at the Foundation and J & J Jacks. Jerry had been able to settle the distribution problem in Los Angeles and was now in Alaska with John and Jane.
Brenda had spoken to John and Jane as well as Lois and Robin earlier today. Everyone was so relieved that she and the baby were safe. Lois planned to come for a visit next week to see for herself that Brenda was okay.
Jax began to caress her cheek. "You look tired. Are you sure you took it easy today?"
"I am a little tired but I feel fine."
"I think it is time for you to get to bed, Mrs. Jacks."
"No, not yet. I need to talk to you about something."
"Okay, what is on your mind?"
"It's about Sonny."
Jax tried not to look upset when Sonny's name was mentioned but his facial expression gave him away.
"What about Sonny?"
"I asked him to come over here today so we could talk. I told him that it was time we both moved on with our lives."
"Go on."
"We talked about our past and the fact that we hurt each other. I told him that you were my life now and that he and I had to let go of each other."
"What was his reaction to all of this?"
"In the end, he realized that it was the only way for us both to be happy. I understand that a part of me will always love him but I know that you and this baby are the most important things in my life. He is my past and you are my future."
"How do you feel about all this? Honestly."
Brenda sat up and took Jax's face in her hands. "I feel free, Jax. It is the only way. I have known that for a long time but I finally could trust myself enough to let go. Your love enabled me to have the courage to move on."
"Brenda, I just want you to be happy."
"I am happy with you, Jax. That's the whole point. You were right when you told me that you were the only man who could ever make me happy. You are the best thing that ever happened to me. I love you so."
"Brenda, I love you more every day. I know we are going to have an incredible life together."
"We already do, honey."
Brenda rose from the couch and reached out her hand. Jax took it and they walked upstairs together hand in hand. They both dreamt that night of what their future together would hold.
Monday, May 26, 1997
The past few weeks had flown by quickly. Scott and Serena had officially relocated to Port Charles. Jax and Scott had become close friends already. Miranda was still working at the Foundation. She was now in the office almost every day and she and Scott had become very friendly. The renovation of the executive offices of J & J Jacks would be completed within the next few weeks. The warehouse and plant reconstruction was moving along as expected. The relocation of the J & J Jacks headquarters to Port Charles was still the talk of the town.
Harry Silver and his associates had been linked to the recent influx of drugs into Port Charles. They were incarcerated awaiting their trials. Justus was working on plans for the opening of a drug rehabilitation center in the Charles Street area to help with the youth of Port Charles. J & J Jacks and ELQ were both underwriting the project.
Jax and Brenda were enjoying their good fortune and their time together. Lois and Brooke had paid a visit which gave Brenda and Lois the chance to catch up and handle some L&B business. Brenda had experienced no further problems with her pregnancy. She had an appointment scheduled with Dr. Meadows for later on in the week. Jax had finally relented and she had finally been able to leave the house to do some shopping with Lucy. Lucy was on cloud nine with Serena back in town. Lucy had canceled all of Brenda's appearances and photography sessions for the month but Brenda hoped to be able to get back to work within the next few weeks. Neither Brenda nor Jax had seen Sonny since Brenda's heart-to-heart discussion with him. Today was a day of celebration as the Quartermaines were hosting a Memorial Day extravaganza.
The Jacks' Residence -- 10:00am
Brenda walked into the bedroom from the bathroom. She had just finished her shower as Jax entered the bedroom.
"How was your tennis game with Scott?"
"Great."
"I guess this means your string of victories remains intact."
"Did you have any doubts?"
"Me? Would I ever doubt my husband?"
"Just checking. How do you feel?"
"We are good. I do want you to know that I can no longer see my feet. I guess this means this pregnancy is official now."
Jax walked over to Brenda and untied the belt of her robe. He rested both of his hands on her rounded stomach. "You have never looked more beautiful to me than you do now."
"Something tells me you will be changing your tune a few months from now when I am as big as a house."
"Brenda, don't be silly. You are carrying my child. Don't you know how much that means to me?"
"Of course I do, darling. Don't pay any attention to me."
"What I wouldn't do for a tape recorder now."
Brenda threw a pillow at him. "Ha, ha, ha."
The Quartermaine Estate -- 2:00pm
The festivities were in full swing. The entire ELQ board, some hospital staff and many other prominent members of Port Charles had been invited to the barbecue/lawn party. Just about all of Port Charles was in attendance. There was a volleyball net set up as well as horseshoes and a croquet game. Brenda had provided plenty of music so the swimming pool area was doubling as a sound stage.
Brenda and Jax arrived. Brenda was warmly greeted by everyone. This was the first time many people had seen her since her ordeal. She looked radiant in a bright yellow sundress. Jax looked like his typical handsome self in pair of khaki dockers and a blue oxford shirt.
"Brenda, my dear, how are you?"
"I am wonderful, Lila. It is a beautiful day for a party."
"Yes, it is. Jax, how is the handsome local hero?"
"Fine, now that I have my wife back with me. You look lovely today as usual."
"Thank you. Now go join the party and enjoy. I promise Edward will not be too much of a pain."
Brenda and Jax then joined Scott, Lucy, Luke and Laura.
Emily, Nicholas and Lucky were in the pool while Maxie and Tommy were leading the younger children in a game of leap frog. Music of the Idle Rich was blaring and Edward was shaking his head at the bedlam around him.
Brenda went to sit at the pool area while Jax went to get her a drink. Ned joined her and she gave him copies of photos she had taken of Brooke during Lois' last visit. Jax joined them as Jason, Robin and Sonny arrived. Robin starting walking directly toward the pool when she saw Brenda.
Ned looked up and said, "Oh, good. Now the fireworks can start."
"Ned, behave."
Robin and Brenda hugged and then Robin kissed Jax and Ned. "Brenda, you look beautiful."
"Thank you for saying that Robin. My wife did not seem to believe me when I told her that."
"Hush, Jax. Robin, how are you? I did think you would be able to convince Jason to come."
"Well since I have to go back to New Haven tonight, this is the best way for me to see everyone."
Jax and Ned walked away to give the ladies time to talk. They approached Sonny and Jason. Ned took Jason to see Lila as Sonny and Jax remained together.
"Sonny, how are you?"
"Fine. How are things?"
"Great."
The two men stand in silence as they watched Brenda and Robin get up to demonstrate the latest dance steps to Emily and Lucky.
"Sonny, we are never going to be friends but I think we need to figure out a way to co-exist. We have too many common ties to do otherwise. I need for Brenda to be happy."
"That's all I ever wanted for her, Jax."
"Fine, then we will have to learn to tolerate each other's presence."
"I am always up for a challenge."
The rest of the afternoon and early evening was filled with fun, sun and good times for all. Brenda had noticed the discussion between Jax and Sonny but neither said anything about it to her and she did not ask. Whatever they had talked about seemed to ease the tension between the two of them and she was grateful. She and Sonny had spoken briefly about Robin and Jason and Brenda was hopeful that they could remain friends. Jax and Brenda returned home and spent the rest of the evening together on the terrace under the stars.

Dr. Meadows' Office -- 11:00am
Brenda had been examined and she and Jax were now in Dr. Meadows' office.
"Well, Brenda, everything looks good."
"My husband has taken very good care of me. He persevered even with all my complaining."
"I want you to begin to resume your normal activity. You can continue with the exercise program that we discussed. You can also resume sexual relations."
"What about my work?"
"As long as you have plenty of opportunity to rest, you can proceed with your modeling. Just take everything in moderation."
"Thank you for everything, Dr. Meadows."
"You are very welcome. Now you can see the receptionist about your next appointment. I want to see you in three weeks."
Brenda and Jax left Dr. Meadows and Brenda made her next appointment. She then went to ladies' room as Jax waited. Jax knocked on Dr. Meadow's door and she told him to enter.
"Dr. Meadows, I have one more question for you. Is it safe for Brenda to travel right now?"
"Yes, it should be. What kind of traveling are we talking about?"
"Air travel on my private jet."
"That should be fine, Jax."
The Charles Street Foundation -- 2:00pm
Jax and Scott were reviewing contracts and the latest financial information. Miranda had brought both of the men lunch from The Outback and she was handling Scott's correspondence and phone calls. Scott spoke to Jax about the possibility of Miranda becoming an employee of J & J Jacks.
"She has been very helpful and dedicated to the work, Jax."
"Well, Scott it is really your call. Once we move next month to the offices, you will have free reign to hire your staff. If you feel she is qualified, I will not object to your hiring of her."
"Jax, I know this is a sticky situation."
"Miranda and I have to deal with each other in the present. The past is over. If she can manage so can I."
"I'll think about it, Jax. I will let you know my decision when you return."
"Okay, Scott. You know how to reach me next week. Jerry will be in Toronto if you need him."
"I am sure Brenda is going to love the surprise."
"I certainly hope so. You, Lucy and the household staff are the only ones that know about it. I had to ensure that Lucy did not schedule any publicity sessions for the next week or so."
"Have a great trip."
"Thanks, Scott. I'll see you in about ten days."
The Jacks' Residence -- 10:00pm
Brenda was in the bathroom as Jax entered the master suite. Jax began to undress as Brenda appeared in the doorway. She looked beautiful in her long black negligee. Her hair fell loosely on her shoulders as curls softly framed her face. She walked over to Jax and finished unbuttoning his shirt. He removed the shirt as she placed both her hands on his chest. She hugged him and then their lips met. After a searing kiss, they held each other tightly in their arms. Brenda then unfastened his belt buckle and unbuttoned his trousers. He unzipped his pants and stepped out of them. He took her in his arms again and their mouths reunited. They staggered to the bed as their lips never broke contact.
Brenda sat on top of him as he pulled the nightgown over her head. She lowered her head and began lightly biting his stomach and then moved up to his chest and then neck area. Jax thought he would die from the sheer pleasure of it all. When Brenda raised her head and sat up again, he began to run his hands on her stomach and moved to her breasts. The feel of the warm soft skin between his fingers made him gasp. He then rolled over on top of her. She cried out his name as his lips and tongue overtook her breasts. He raised his head and their eyes met. The passion was raging like an inferno between them.
"Jax, I have missed you so."
"I love you. My God, I love you."
Jax groaned as their bodies became one. It had been over a month since they had entered paradise together but their bodies responded in perfect unison. It was pure ecstasy as always.
As the hours passed, the breeze entering the room from the open window dried their glistening skin. The falling rain sounded like music as Brenda rested in Jax's arms. She could not help but remember what had happened one year ago tonight in the pouring rain. Jax had found her in a state of complete despair and carried her to a haven of joy and hope. He had given her everything when she had nothing to give. Now all she wanted to do was give him everything she had for the rest of their lives. That night had changed her life forever. As Brenda fell asleep, she snuggled deeper into Jax's arms dreaming of her heaven sent savior.

The Jacks' Residence -- 9:00am
Brenda began to stir as Jax quickly put the suitcases in the hall. He re-entered the master suite as Brenda awoke.
"Good morning, angel."
"Good morning, handsome. It looks like it is going to be a beautiful day."
"It would have to be after such a beautiful night." He sat on the bed and fully kissed her.
"Why don't you come back to bed and we can really make it a glorious day."
"I have arrangements to make and places to go. Don't you know what day it is?"
"You know I have to have two cups of coffee or tea these days to figure that out."
Jax smiled at her as her facial expression began to register a look of recognition.
"Jax, what are you planning?"
"What do you think?"
"Something wonderful, I'm sure."
"I hope so. Our Mediterranean friends and crew would be insulted if you were not looking forward to seeing them again."
"Jax, are you serious? Are we really going back to the Isabella?"
"Well, we promised Thao, Augustine, the Contessa and Paolo they could celebrate our first anniversary with us."
"It's not really our anniversary."
"It will always be our anniversary. We made our vows to each other then and that is all that matters."
"Of course. I married you in my heart that day. I do not care what the law said about it."
Brenda jumped off the bed and started screaming and doing her little dance.
"I guess I can take that as a yes to my offer."
She ran over to him and kissed him. "You most certainly can. I have to get packed."
"Already handled. The bags are in the hall."
"Pretty sure of yourself, Mr. Jacks."
"I know my wife pretty well."
"You had better." Brenda smiled and then a look of concern crossed her face. "What about the baby? I do not know if it safe for me to travel."
"Dr. Meadows has okayed it so we are all set. We leave at noon."
"I love you, Mr. Jacks."
"I love you too, Mrs. Jacks."
The Isabella -- 11:45pm
The stars were brightly shining as the reflection of the moon radiated off the Mediterranean. The night air was amazing as a gentle breeze blew. Brenda was standing at the rail of the yacht as Jax appeared.
"It is more beautiful than I even remember. I can't believe we are here. It is perfect."
"It was all worth it to see that smile on your face. Brenda, you look even more beautiful than you did a year ago."
"I thought I was happy then, Jax. Now I know I did not even know what happiness meant then. I know the definition now and there is no way I could be any more happy than I am at this moment. You are the answer to all my dreams, Jax."
"You are my life, Brenda."
"I love you, Jax. I could not say it a year ago but I can say it now. I can shout it now."
"I loved you then Brenda but now I know I cannot live without you."
Jax took both of Brenda's hands in his as the reflection of the moon silhouetted their images. "Brenda Barrett Jacks, I love you. I am going to spend the rest of my life showing you how much. We are going to have a beautiful family and an incredible life together."
"Jasper Jacks, I love you with all my heart. I did not know what happiness was until you found me. You have made all my dreams come true. I am going to spend the rest of my life making you happy."
They both slipped their wedding bands from their fingers and handed them to the other.
"With this ring, I thee wed." Jax then placed the band on Brenda's finger.
"With this ring, I thee wed." Brenda then placed the band on Jax's finger.
Jax took her face in his hands and their lips met. At that precise moment, the sound of a lone church bell was heard throughout the night air. The echo of the church bell continued as the promises from Jax and Brenda's hearts were fulfilled.
