Reaping Rewards

The Isabella-- 5:00am

Jax held a sleeping Brenda as they reclined in the chaise lounge on the deck of the Isabella. It was almost sunrise and the start of the second year of their married life. He was mesmerized by the feel of her in his arms. His mind drifted to this day one year ago when they had watched the sun come up on their first day of married life. So many things had changed since then, even the depth of his love for her. He knew now it would be impossible to live without her. Brenda and the child growing inside her were his whole world. Their love knew no boundaries. They belonged to one another and there was nothing or no one who could change that.

Brenda stirred and snuggled deeper into Jax's chest as she pulled his arms tighter around her. Jax then wrapped the blanket more securely around her shoulders. "Go back to sleep, sweetie."

"Have you slept at all?"

"No, I have been admiring the incredible view."

"The lights of the city and the stars certainly are beautiful."

"I hadn't noticed, I was too captivated by the beauty of the woman in my arms."

Brenda moved her hand to caress his cheek and then gently kissed his lips. She snuggled back into his arms as the first light of the day appeared on the horizon.

"You see that glow, that is the first day of our second year of married life."

"Thank you, Jax."

"For what, darling?"

"For outmaneuvering me, for making marrying you painless and for showing me that falling in love didn't have to be excruciating. You had enough hopes and dreams for the two of us. You trusted me with your heart when I had nothing to give."

"Brenda, you have always had so much to give, you just had to learn to trust yourself enough to give it. I knew you were ready to start trusting yourself when you met me at the airport and agreed to become my wife."

"You were right about everything. Falling in love with you was painless, I did not even know I was doing it until it was done. You were as sure as the sun."

"No, Brenda. We are as sure as the sun."

They held each other close as the sun slowly rose in the sky casting bright sunshine on them as their hearts beat as one.

Luke's Club -- 1:00pm

Mike watched as Sonny sat alone at a table. He knew how difficult yesterday must have been for Sonny as it had been the first anniversary of Lily's death. Sonny had spent the day alone, he could not bear the idea of being at the club. He had visited Lily's grave in an effort to ease the pain of the day. As Mike kept an eye on Sonny, Miranda walked in and headed straight for Sonny's table.

"Hello, Sonny. We need to talk."

"Now is not the best time."

"It's important. What are we going to do about this Jax and Brenda situation?

"We are not going to do anything."

"I can't believe you are giving up. I thought you were a fighter, Mr. Corinthos."

"Miranda, let it go. They are happy. The game is over."

"I do not believe this. You were convinced that Jax was not the right man for saintly Brenda."

"I still feel that way but she is happy and that is all I want."

"This makes no sense. The two of you spent all that time alone together in that warehouse. I do not believe that nothing happened. You can't tell me that she did not pledge her undying love to you."

"She pledged her eternal love, she pledged it to her husband."

"She is just playing hard to get, Sonny. Of course, I think that is a big mistake especially in her condition. She has lost her biggest weapon now that her figure is gone. Poor Jax must be starving in the romance department now."

"Miranda, get a grip. Have you seen Brenda lately? She is even more beautiful now than before. Don't you know how attractive a pregnant woman is to her partner?"

At that moment Scott and Lucy walked into the club. They walked over to Sonny and Miranda.

"Hi Sonny. How are things?"

"Fine, Lucy. How is the queen of the cosmetics world?

"Perfect. This new promotion is creating record sales numbers. Brenda really outdid herself this time. Now I just need for her husband to get her back here so we can move to the next installment of the series. Wait until you see what we have planned for the AIDS Ball."

Miranda piped in, "I did not realize Jax and Brenda were out of town."

"Yes, they are somewhere in the Mediterranean celebrating their first anniversary. What a life. It must be nice to jet off to the Greek Islands whenever it suits you. They were married on Jax's yacht there last year and Jax surprised her with a return performance. Well, Scott and I have to get to our business about the Ball. Get your checkbooks ready. See ya!"

As Lucy and Scott sat at a nearby table, Sonny noticed a look of concern on Miranda's face. "What's the problem Miranda?"

Miranda recovered quickly. "There is no problem. I just was thinking how easily Jax is manipulated these days. He has a business moving to Port Charles and his wife forces him to entertain her half way around the world."

"Miranda, I think it is time to give up this pipedream of yours. Jax and Brenda are together with a baby on the way. It is over."

"You're wrong, Sonny. You are so wrong."

The Isabella -- 9:00pm

Jax and Brenda had spent the day enjoying the sunshine and warm weather. They had just finished a romantic candlelight dinner and were now alone as the crew had gone ashore for the night. The mood was set as they danced under the stars to the music playing from the CD player. As they swayed to the soft music, Brenda suddenly stopped and stepped away from Jax.

A look of concern appeared on Jax's face. "What's wrong?"

Brenda placed both hands on her stomach. "Wait a second."

A wave of panic hit Jax. "Is it the baby?"

A bright smile spread across Brenda's face. "Yes, it's the baby. I just felt it move."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. It was just like Dr. Meadows said it would be. It felt like the flutter of a butterfly."

"Or the flutter of an angel's wings."

"Yes, our own little angel."

Jax reached out and took Brenda's face in his hands. They stood in the moonlight gazing into one another's eyes and the rest of the world stopped.

"Jax, if this is a dream, I don't ever want to wake up."

"You are my dream, Brenda. I love you with all my heart."

The song, "Every time I close my eyes" by Babyface, could now be heard from the CD player.**

Girl, it's been a long time coming
Yes, it has
But I know that it's been worth the wait
Yeah, it feels like springtime in winter
It feels like Christmas in June
It feels like heaven as I open up these gifts from me and you

Their lips were drawn together like magnets. They shared a soft, sensual kiss that quickly intensified. Brenda's fingers wove their way through Jax's golden locks as he gently lifted her into his arms.

The song continued.

And every time I close my eyes,
I thank the Lord that I've got you
And you've got me too
And every time I think of it,
I pinch myself
'Cause I don't believe it's true
That someone loves me like you do

They entered the bedroom never breaking contact. Jax lowered Brenda from his arms and gazed into her eyes. He unzipped her gown and then pushed the dress from her shoulders. She stepped out of the gown and her shoes and melted into his arms.

Girl, I think you're truly something.
Yes, you are
And you're,
You're every bit of a dream come true
With you baby,
It never rains an inch no wonder
Sun always shine when I'm near you
It's just a blessing that I found somebody like you

Jax removed the clip from her hair and watches as her hair freely flowed around her face. Brenda unbuttoned his shirt and Jax quickly pulled it over his head. He took her in his arms and gently laid her on the bed. Jax stepped out of his pants and climbed into bed next to her. He softly kissed her forehead, nose, cheeks and chin before leaving a trail down her neck and across her shoulders.

And every time I close my eyes,
I thank the Lord that I've got you
And you've got me too
And every time I think of it,
I pinch myself
'Cause I don't believe it's true
That someone like you loves me too.

Jax laid on his back as Brenda traced the outline of his ear with the tip of her tongue. She continued down his neck and chest with her tongue before placing light kisses on his nipples. Jax pulled her toward him and his mouth overtook hers.

The music proceeded.

Think of the nights I cried myself to sleep
You really oughta know how much you mean to me
It's only right
In my life
That you be in my life here with me
Baby, Baby

Without ever separating their lips, Jax rolled Brenda over onto her back. Their kisses became more and more demanding as Brenda moaned in delight. When their lips finally parted, Jax eased himself on top of her. His mouth moved to her breasts and Brenda had to concentrate in order to breathe. She trembled in delight from the feel of his touch.

And every time I close my eyes,
I thank the Lord that I've got you
And you've got me too
And every time I think of it,
I pinch myself
'Cause I don't believe it's true
That someone like you loves me too

When the song ended, they cried out each other's names as their passion reached the summit and they became one in both body and soul. Their love overtook them as their bodies became entwined and their connection deepened. They murmured, "I love you" as they reached paradise together.

The Isabella -- 11:00am

Brenda was reading a book on childbirth as the late morning sun shined brightly on the deck of the yacht. Jax appeared with a pitcher of iced tea and noticed a look of anxiety on Brenda's face.

"What's the matter, sweetie?"

"I am never going to be able to do this."

A huge grin crossed Jax's face. He put the pitcher on the table and sat in the chaise lounge next to Brenda. Jax took Brenda's hand in his. "Darling, you are going to be able to do this."

"Jax, this whole thing terrifies me. You should read what this book says about labor and delivery. Look at these pictures. How am I going to be able to get a seven or eight pound baby out of this body?"

"Brenda, I know you are apprehensive but I'll be there the whole time with you."

"Jax, somehow that does not give me a great deal of comfort right now. You can't deliver this baby for me."

"No, but I'll be with you cheering you on."

"Big deal. You had your minute of glory at this baby's conception then I carry it for nine months and then I'm the one panting and moaning in delivery.

"Excuse me, Mrs. Jacks, but you know it was considerably more than one minute of glory. Also I seem to recall that you had a practice round of panting and moaning at this baby's conception."

Brenda tried to stop a smile from appearing on her face. "You are not funny, Jax."

Jax was laughing at her attempt to be angry. "I think that we have done enough reading today. Why don't we change the subject? "Are you ready for the entourage this evening?"

"I can't wait to see every one again. It is hard to believe that it has been a whole year."

"I am looking forward to it. However, I don't care what Thao puts up as his wager, you are not available as a prize."

Charles Street Foundation -- 1:00pm

Miranda was alone in the office for the first time in days. Everything seemed to be happening at a frenzied pace now. The executive offices were going to be completed next week and the staff from the Toronto office was relocating to Port Charles the week thereafter. Scott was keeping Miranda busy with details concerning the relocation, J & J Jacks' underwriting of the AIDS Ball and the other developmental projects for the Charles Street community. Of course Miranda made sure she was available to Scott at all times. She had to convince him that he needed her in the executive office. Miranda opened her bag and pulled out a book she had borrowed from the library. It was a book detailing the symptoms and treatment of post traumatic stress syndrome. She fully intended to put her new found knowledge of the subject to good use. Miranda knew that she had to provide Jax with a reason to focus his attention on her rather than Brenda and she thought this was the answer she needed.

The door opened and Scott and Lucy walked into the office. Miranda quickly returned the book to her bag.

"Hi Miranda. Do you have the press release for the AIDS Ball?

"Yes, here it is Scott."

Scott handed the press release to Lucy and Lucy can't help but notice the smiles exchanged between Scott and Miranda.

"Thanks Scott. I really appreciate all your work for the benefit."

"Actually you should be thanking Miranda. She composed the first draft and I just made some slight revisions. She has become my right hand these days."

"How nice. Well, I have to get back to the office. I will be in touch. Good-bye."

Lucy shook her head as she left the Foundation office. There was just something that rubbed her the wrong way about Miranda. She was worried about Scott. Lucy decided she would have to do some checking. She knew Brenda would be the best place to start once she and Jax returned from their trip.

The Isabella -- 8:00pm

The evening was in full swing as the champagne flowed and a feast was set. Jax was dressed in his black tuxedo and Brenda was in a black sequined cocktail dress. They were quite a pair. Thao, the Contessa, Paolo and Augustin had arrived earlier that evening. They were all thrilled to see Jax and Brenda and remarked how radiant Brenda looked.

"Well, well. The man who used to be the world's most elusive bachelor is not only a husband but a father-to-be. What is the world coming to?"

"I don't know Augustin but I can still see the trail of broken heart from here to Melbourne."

"Contessa, you flatter me."

"Don't try to be modest now, Jax. It does not suit you."

"Thao, you would not know modesty if it hit you over the head."

The evening continued and the stakes for the final game of shimmy were about to be determined. Brenda and Thao had been the big winners for the evening so they were facing one another in the winner take all game.

"Thao, what will your wager be this evening?"

"Brenda, I understand you are quite a skier. I have an incredible chalet in Cortina D'Ampezzo with a spectacular view of the Dolomites. Interested?

"A chalet in the Italian Alps, who wouldn't be interested? What would I have to put up in return? You know that Kronos is off limits."

"So is my wife," added Jax.

"Lovely Brenda, one day you will realize that I am the perfect man for you and you will leave that husband of yours. Until then, I will be patient."

Paolo laughed. "Thao, you will be in a nursing home still waiting."

"Thao, what do you want?"

"Since Kronos is not available, I will settle for the Isabella."

"Thao, this yacht has significant sentimental value to us."

"Brenda, I thought you were a gambler. Was I wrong?"

"No, you were not. The Isabella it is."

Jax pulled Brenda aside. "Are you sure you want to do this?"

"Jax, this yacht is our good luck charm. My intuition tells me that our luck will continue."

Thao and Brenda took their seats as the Contessa prepared to deal the cards. She provided Thao and Brenda with the rules as Jax, Paolo and Augustin watched the action intently. The hand which reached nine or the closest to do so without going over would win. The ultimate winner was determined by the best two out of three hands. The first hand was dealt from the shoe. Brenda was dealt a total of seven while Thao is dealt a total of six. Brenda held and Thao was dealt a two. Thao won the first hand eight to seven. In the second hand, Brenda was dealt a hand of five and Thao was dealt a hand of seven. Thao held while Brenda was dealt another card. A three was dealt to her and she won the second hand eight to seven.

Jax looked at Brenda who appeared to be as cool as a cucumber. He knew how upset she would be if the yacht was lost. Unlike last year when Jax won back Kronos from Thao, Brenda was not dealing and cheating by dealing from beneath the shoe. The last hand would determine the champion. The Contessa passed the two cards to Brenda. She had been dealt a three and four. The Contessa then dealt Thao his two cards. He was dealt two fours for a natural eight. His face was expressionless but Brenda's intuition was telling her that her present hand was beaten.

"Hit me."

The Contessa passed a card to Brenda.

"Are you ready to show, Brenda?"

"Yes, Thao. Be my guest."

Thao showed his cards. "A natural eight. Can you match that?"

Brenda's expression gave nothing away. Jax sighed at the sight of Thao's hand. Brenda then placed down her hand. "I can match it and top it. Nine points."

Thao shook his head as Augustin patted him on the back. Jax hugged Brenda and spun her around.

"Mrs. Jacks, you are incredible."

Jax released Brenda from his arms and looked at her cards again. "Brenda, you took a hit on seven?"

"I knew I had luck on my side."

"Jax, I told you last year that you met your match with Brenda. I now know she has topped you as well as me."

Brenda hugged Thao. "Better luck next year."

"Congratulations, Brenda. You are truly something."

The rest of the evening was spent dancing, laughing and enjoying a wonderful time with friends. Jax saw everyone off from the boat launch as Brenda dressed for bed. She was on the deck when he returned.

"Thao was right. You are truly something."

"Whatever I am now, you have to know that I was nothing before I met you, Jax."

"We were nothing until we found each other. We were put on this earth to be together."

Jax took Brenda in his arms and held her. They could feel each other's beating heart as the stars twinkled around them. They spent the rest of the evening making love as the rest of the world ceased to exist.

Monday, June 9, 1997
The Jacks' Residence -- 9:00am

Jax and Brenda had returned from the Isabella two days before. They had spent their days on the yacht sunbathing and swimming while the nights were spent dancing and making love. Both Jax and Brenda were beautifully tanned. Jax knew that Brenda had finally been able to put some of the ordeal with Harry behind her. She looked more relaxed than she had been in weeks.

"Are you ready to get back to the grind?"

"I better be. It will be a hectic few weeks with the executive office completion, the Toronto office relocation and the AIDS Ball."

"My husband, the leader. So much work, so little time."

Jax laughed. "What are your plans for the day?"

"I am meeting with Lucy about the Jacks' Cosmetics promotion for the AIDS Ball. I also need to get some exercise this morning."

"Just don't overexert yourself."

"Yes, Dad."

The Charles Street Foundation -- Noon

Scott and Jax had just finished their meeting with the construction manager about the final details for the renovation of the executive offices. Reconstruction was to be completed by the end of the week so that the offices could be occupied next week. The Toronto office was beginning the first stage of relocation to Port Charles next week.

"Scott, you have been instrumental in handling this transaction. I can't tell you how much my family and I appreciate it."

"Jax, it feels great to be able to contribute something. I am thrilled to be back in Port Charles. Serena already is beginning to know what it is like to have a real family and friends."

"You will have to bring Serena over to the house. Brenda would love to spend some time with her."

"Serena would love that also. How is Brenda feeling?"

"She is feeling great now. The trip was very good for her."

"That's wonderful."

"Scott, have you made any decisions on your staff yet?"

"I have interviewed some law clerks from the University and will make a decision this week."

"What about your administrative assistant?"

"Jax, I honestly feel that Miranda is very qualified for the job. She has hands on experience with the grants and permits and is familiar with the key players at the Foundation."

"Scott, it is your decision. If you want to offer her the job, feel free to do so."

"What about Brenda? Do you think she will have a problem with this?"

"Brenda is my concern, not yours. We will deal with the situation."

Luke's Club -- 1:00pm

Lucy and Brenda were having lunch discussing the campaign for the AIDS Ball. Brenda was introducing a tribute to AIDS victims at the benefit and it was going to be filmed to be included as part of the Jacks Cosmetics campaign. A portion of the revenue generated from the campaign was going to be donated to AIDS related projects.

"You look fantastic, Brenda. Are you sure it is okay for you to work?"

"The doctor approved it as long as I do not overdo it."

"Great. We have the last segment of the campaign set to be shot at the end of the month. You look even more beautiful than I imagined you would. This is going to do wonders for your career."

"I am happy you were able to deal so well with the pregnancy. I really appreciate the sacrifices you have made."

"You are my favorite model, Brenda. I will do whatever I can for you. Now, I want you to do me a favor."

"Name it."

"I need some information about Miranda."

Brenda coughed in surprise at Lucy's request. "Why do you want information about her?"

"She has been spending an awful lot of time with Scott and I am just concerned."

"Worried about Scott, Lucy? What is going on?"

"Nothing, Brenda. You know how much he and Serena mean to me and I do not want them to be hurt."

"I understand Lucy. I am curious as to why you are worried about Miranda though."

"There is something about her that I just do not trust. I can't put my finger on it but something is not right."

"I couldn't agree more. She paints herself as a paragon of virtue and as a martyr and she is far from either. She acts like the classic damsel in distress. She is devious and manipulative. Believe me, I know because I recognize myself in some of her actions. The problem is that she portrays herself as the epitome of honesty and integrity."

"How can she even attempt that when we all know that she lied to Jax for six years about the accident?"

"My point exactly. She has fooled almost everyone, including Jax. It is a very difficult subject for us, even now. Fortunately Miranda has not been able to garner the amount of Jax's attention as she did when she first arrived in Port Charles so she is not a major issue right now."

"So you think she could hurt Scott?"

"I have no idea what she may or may not have in mind with Scott. I did hear Jax and Jerry discussing how helpful she has been to him since he began working for J & J Jacks."

"She certainly has. She helped him move and shop for furniture and find day care for Serena, etc. She has been Saint Miranda."

"I would keep my eyes and ears open, Lucy."

"I certainly will."

Sonny had walked into the Club while Brenda and Lucy were engrossed in conversation. He immediately noticed how wonderful Brenda looked. She looked so happy and relaxed. He knew that Jax gave Brenda the commitment, peace and security that he never could. It was still difficult letting her go but he knew it was the only way. Now if he could figure out what Miranda had up her sleeve.

The Charles Street Foundation -- 3:00pm

Miranda walked in as Jax and Scott were working at their desks.

"Jax, welcome back. How was your trip?"

"Wonderful, thank you. How are you Miranda?"

"I am fine. Is there anything either of you need for me to do?"

"Can you find the proposal for the drug rehabilitation center you prepared last week?"

"Here it is, Scott. I am sorry I am late but I had a doctor's appointment."

"That is the third appointment you have had in the past two weeks. Are you sure you are okay, Miranda?"

Miranda noticed Jax's interest in Scott's questions. "Yes, I am sure. I'll be fine, Scott."

A little while later, Scott walked over to Miranda's desk and pulled up a chair. "Miranda, as you know the relocation to the new executive offices begins next week. I am in need of an administrative assistant and I wonder if you would be interested in the position."

"Scott, are you serious?"

"I am very serious. It is a full-time position beginning June 30th so you would have to leave your job at The Outback and cut back your hours at the Foundation."

"I am honored that you would even consider me for such a job. What about Jax? I am afraid he may have a problem with this."

"Jax has given me free reign to hire my own staff so if you want the job, it is yours."

"Scott, I want the job. Thank you so much."

"You're welcome, Miranda."

Scott walked back to his desk as Jax finished his phone call. Miranda then walked over to Jax's desk.

"Jax, I have accepted Scott's job offer. I want to make sure that you are comfortable with this."

"Miranda, I told Scott that he was free to hire whomever he chose and I meant it."

"Scott told me that but I just wanted to confirm it with you."

"Miranda, I am glad that Scott had found someone he feels he can rely on. I hope it all works out for both of you."

The Jacks' Residence -- 8:00pm

Jax and Brenda had finished dinner and were sitting on the terrace. Brenda looked over at Jax and noticed that he seemed apprehensive about something.

"Honey, what is the matter? I knew something was bothering you when you came home from the office."

"Nothing is bothering me. I just have not figured out how to tell you something."

"Just say it then."

"It's about Miranda. Scott offered her a job as his administrative assistant and she accepted."

Brenda was quiet. Jax took her hand and said, "Brenda, say something."

"What do you want me to say, Jax? Do you want me to say, I hate this? Or do you want me to ask you to force Scott to revoke the offer? I would gladly express both sentiments but that is not going to get us anywhere."

"Brenda, I do not expect you to be happy with this. I just want you to try to accept it."

"Why is Scott hiring her? I am sure that there are many other people who are more qualified for the position."

"She has been indispensable to Scott over the past few weeks. She is familiar with the operations of the Foundation and J & J Jacks. Scott made the choice and I have to respect that."

"Of course she is indispensable. Is there anything that woman cannot do? Now she has just found a valid reason to see you every day."

"Brenda, when are you going to realize that Miranda is my past? It does not matter if she sees me every day. You are my wife and you are my life. Don't you know how much I love you?"

Brenda stood up and walked across the terrace. "Of course I know how much you love me. I know Miranda should not bother me, but she does. I can't help but worry that she still has a hold on you."

"Only you have a hold on me, Brenda. Miranda and I are friends, that is all. She is going to be working with Scott just like she has for the past several weeks. She has no effect on us."

"Jax, I am sorry. I do not want to argue about this. I am not happy with this but I will try to accept it."

Jax stood up and moved over to Brenda and put his hands on her shoulders. "That is all I ask of you, Brenda. I love you, darling."

"I love you too, honey."

The Jacks' Residence -- 11:00am

Robin had finished her exams and returned to Port Charles for the summer. She and Brenda had just completed a series of laps in the pool and were now sunbathing.

"Aren't you tired, Brenda? That was some work-out."

"Dr. Meadows has me on an exercise program so I have been swimming quite a bit over the past few weeks. The exercise actually gives me more energy."

"You look great, so much better than you did when you were in the hospital. Brenda, I can't tell you how happy I am that everything worked out okay."

"I know, Robin. I don't know how I could have survived if anything would have happened to this baby." Brenda then began rubbing her stomach. She noticed a look of sadness on Robin's face.

"What is it Robin?"

"I was just thinking that I will never be able to have a child. I will never get the chance to experience what you are feeling right now."

Brenda got up from her chaise lounge and sat next to Robin. Robin started to cry and Brenda hugged her.

"Robin, let it out. It's okay. Let it go."

"Brenda, I didn't mean to fall apart. It's just hard sometimes."

"Of course it is. Robin, you have been such a tower of strength. You know you do not have to be. You have so many people here who love you. We are always here for you. You do not have to take this on all by yourself."

"I don't want you to worry about me. You should be concentrating on the baby right now."

"Robin, you are my little sister. I am never going to stop worrying about you."

"Tell me what it's like, Brenda. What does it feel like to have a child growing inside you?"

"Robin, I don't think this is a good time to discuss this."

"Please, Brenda. I want to know."

"It's been the most incredible experience of my life. I can feel the baby moving inside me. It started out feeling like a flutter, now it is like a lurch and soon it will be like a punch or a kick."

"It must be pretty awesome to know that you created a life."

"It is totally awesome, Robin."

"Brenda, I could not be any happier than I am for you right now."

"Robin, I never thought I could ever be this happy. I truly believe that one day you will be this happy. The protocol treatment is going to be successful and you will have your whole life ahead of you. You are going to get everything you ever wanted and more."

The Charles Street Foundation -- 1:00pm

Justus, Scott and Jax were meeting about the upcoming board meeting for the Foundation. Lucy walked into the office to bring the final budget numbers for next week's AIDS Ball.

"Gentlemen, here is the damage."

"How are the last minute details coming?"

"Great Jax. J and J Jacks' underwriting of the event has made my job a piece of cake. The fact that Katherine Bell is not involved to interfere is fantastic. I can do this my way."

"Lucy, I can see that by the looks of these numbers. Are you refurbishing the ballroom of the Port Charles Hotel as well?"

"Scott, you know that this event has to be the highlight of Port Charles' entertainment. The numbers have to reflect that."

"Scott, I knew what I was getting into when I proposed that J & J Jacks underwrite the festivities. Lucy's plans will get the results we all want and that is all that matters."

"Thank you, Jax. The evening will be one to remember."

Justus laughed. "Please tell me that we are going to get the opportunity to see you again in a state of undress."

"Not funny, Justus."

"Okay, Lucy. I will give this to Miranda when she gets in tomorrow morning. She will make all the final notations and we can discuss it next week."

Lucy sighed at the sound of Miranda's name. "Scott, what in the world are you going to do without Miranda when you move to the new offices?"

"Lucy, Miranda has accepted the job as my administrative assistant so she will be moving to the new offices with me."

"Oh, I see. Well, I have to get to the Outback to meet Brenda and Robin for lunch. I will see you next week gentlemen. Just remember to bring your wallets."

The Outback -- 2:00pm

Lucy joined Brenda and Robin at the table. As they enjoyed lunch, they discussed the AIDS Ball and their individual roles in the night's festivities. As they are talking, Miranda walked over to the table.

"Ladies, how is your lunch?"

"Fine, thank you."

"Robin, it is so nice to see you again. Mac tells me that you have just completed another semester on the Dean's List. Congratulations!"

"Thanks Miranda."

"Lucy, I understand from Scott that all the plans for the Ball are completed. I am looking forward to the extravaganza. It was so generous of Jax to underwrite the event."

"Jax was very generous but there are many other people who are contributing their time, services and/or money. Both Robin and Brenda are part of the evening's festivities."

"Brenda, where in the world are you going to find evening wear to fit you now? You will have a great deal of work to do to get your figure back once the baby comes."

Robin cleared her throat and changed the subject. "I am surprised you are not at the Foundation this afternoon?"

"I am helping out Felicia since Georgie is sick. It's the least I can do since I will be leaving here at the end of the month to work for J & J Jacks."

"I did not realize you were leaving."

"I am going to be Scott Baldwin's administrative assistant. I am looking so forward to the opportunity. The new offices are beautiful. Scott has an executive suite right next to Jax's office."

Brenda clenched her napkin in her lap as Miranda smirked. Customers appeared at the entrance and Miranda bid her farewell.

Robin spoke up. "I don't like her."

"I don't trust her," said Lucy.

Brenda completed the trio. "I despise her."

The Jacks' Residence -- 9:00pm

After their lunch with Lucy, Brenda and Robin had spent the rest of the afternoon shopping. Robin had bought an outfit for the baby and Brenda had picked up some other essentials. Jax had a dinner meeting so Jose had prepared a light supper for Brenda and Robin. Robin had left a short time before and Brenda was in the nursery putting away the purchases of the day.

The baby became very active and Brenda rested her hands on her well rounded stomach. She looked out the nursery window and saw the well-lit pool area. She could not help thinking of her conversation with Robin earlier in the day. Robin was never going to be able to experience this. It was so unfair. AIDS had taken so many and affected so many people's lives already. A stream of tears began to run down Brenda's cheeks as Jax appeared in the doorway. He could hear her sobs as he entered the room.

"Sweetie, what's wrong?"

Brenda turned to face him. "Hold me, please."

Jax took her in his arms and wrapped them around her tightly so that she was protected from the rest of the world. He then gently massaged her back in an effort to comfort her. Brenda held on for dear life as her tears finally subsided.

"Tell me, angel."

"Do you know how lucky we are?"

"Yes, why?"

"Do you know that Robin is never going to have a chance to experience this? She will never know what it is like to give birth to a child."

"Brenda, life is not fair. That is why you have to hold onto everything you have."

Brenda melted back into his arms. "Believe me, I am holding on for dear life."

"I am sorry you are so upset. Robin has been dealt a bad hand but look what she is doing with her life."

"She is incredible. I just wish she didn't have to be."

"I love you, Brenda, and I love the way you love your friends."

"I love you. I also need to thank you for everything you are doing for the AIDS Ball. I know part of your reason for underwriting it is because of what this cause means to me."

"Whatever is important to you is important to me. We are in this together."

"I have waited my whole life to hear that applied to me."

"I have waited my whole life to say it to someone."

The Jacks' Residence -- 8:00am

Jax was in the shower as Brenda remained asleep in bed. Suddenly, Brenda awakened with a jolt as she felt a series of swift kicks into her rib cage. She realized that Lois was right, it did feel like being punched. Brenda smiled and began gently rubbing her stomach as she spoke to the baby.

"Is this your idea of saying good morning to Mommy? We will have to teach you better manners once you are old enough to understand them."

The baby began another series of kicking movements as Brenda heard Jax turn off the shower. "Daddy will be out here in a minute and it is only fair that you give him the same treatment you have given me. I need your cooperation on this."

Brenda slid back under the covers as Jax walked out of the bathroom.

"Good morning. How is my bride this fine day?"

"Lonely. Come over here and give me a kiss."

Jax walked over to the bed and sat down. He kissed Brenda tenderly on the lips and then caressed her cheek.

"I think our little angel is lonely for his Daddy also. Have you wished him a good morning yet?"

Jax pushed up Brenda's pajama top to expose her stomach. He placed a light kiss on her abdomen and then rested his cheek there. "Good morning, little one."

Brenda's mental telepathy and request for cooperation from the baby was honored at that precise moment as Brenda felt the most intense series of kicks yet. Brenda hid her grin as Jax quickly raised his head from her stomach.

"What was that?"

"What was what?"

"That movement. I feel like I have been punched in the face."

"See what happens when your child has to wait for its father to say good morning." Brenda then started to laugh.

"That was her?"

The joy in Jax's eyes made Brenda's heart skip a beat. "Yes, that was our miracle, darling."

Jax took Brenda's face in his hands. "We are going to have such a perfect life together."

"We already do."

The Charles Street Foundation -- 1:00pm

The first set of offices in the new executive suites had been cleared for occupancy so the first group of employees from the Toronto office had arrived in Port Charles. Scott was overseeing things at the new office while Jax had remained at the Foundation office for the week. The last minute details for the AIDS Ball on Friday were being handled. John and Jane were due into town later today for the Ball. Jerry was tied up with matters in Hong Kong so he would be unable to attend. Brenda had an appointment with Dr. Meadows today so Jax had not yet arrived at the office. Miranda was working with Keesha to pack the files for the new office when Jax walked in.

"Hi Jax! How is Brenda?"

"She is wonderful, Keesha. We just returned from the doctor's office and everything is fine."

"I look forward to seeing her on Friday. I have so little time to see anyone now with my classes at the Police Academy."

"I can't wait for Friday to experience this event which everyone has been talking about. It was very nice of Scott to ask me to accompany him."

"Miranda, you will have a great time. It is always quite an evening."

"I'm sure I will have a great time, Keesha."

Miranda was disappointed that Jax had showed no reaction when she mentioned accompanying Scott to the Ball. She would just have to put her plan in motion. She was very thankful that Jerry was not attending the Ball. The last thing she would have needed was for him to be in town now. Dealing with John and Jane was going to be enough for her to handle at this time.

The Jacks' Residence -- 8:00pm

Brenda had met with Lucy this afternoon to make the final arrangements for the presentation and the photo shoot at the Ball. She had also had her final fitting for the gown she would wear on Friday. Brenda had spent the early evening with Corrine making sure that everything was ready for John and Jerry's arrival tonight. Lois would be arriving on Friday so that she could also attend the Ball. As Brenda made the final inspection of the guest room, she heard the car pull into the garage. She hurried down the stairs as Jax and his parents entered the foyer.

"Brenda, come here." Jane hugged her tightly knowing how close they had all come to losing her. "You look wonderful. It looks like my son has been taking care of you."

"He has been a prince, Jane."

John then hugged Brenda and patted her stomach. "Hello in there. Your grandfather is here so you had better be on your best behavior."

Jax walked over to Brenda and kissed her as Virgil brought the bags upstairs. Jose had prepared a late night supper so the four of them went into the dining room to eat. Brenda told John and Jane about her appointment with Dr. Meadows and Jax filled his parents in on the latest about the relocation. John would be in the office with Jax tomorrow while Jane would spend the day with Brenda.

After dinner, they went into the living room. Virgil brought in a large box from the car and Jane gave it to Brenda to open. Brenda could not contain her glee as she unwrapped a beautiful hand carved rocking horse.

"John and Jane, it is beautiful. It will look wonderful in the nursery."

"Mum and Dad, you are spoiling this child even before it is born."

"Son, that's what grandparents are for."

Brenda again had to catch her breath at the thought of bringing a child into such a loving family. She knew it was the most important thing she could ever give her child. At that moment the baby started another kicking episode. Jax watched as she smiled and began rubbing her stomach.

"Do we have the seal of approval from our little angel?"

"Yes, the baby would like to thank his grandparents."

Jane was sitting next to Brenda on the sofa so Brenda took Jane's hand and placed it on her stomach. The baby continued to kick.

"John, come here. You have to feel this."

John walked over to Brenda and placed his hand on her stomach. "Well, I'll be. A very active child, now that is a true Jacks for you."

"I remember how it was with Jax. He kept me awake all the time with his constant activity."

"Well, then this baby is just like his father."

Soon thereafter, John and Jane turned in for the evening. Jax carried the rocking horse upstairs to the nursery as Brenda undressed for bed. She got into bed as Jax changed and then joined her.

Jax lovingly rubbed Brenda's abdomen as he spoke. "Now, it's time for you to go to sleep, little one. This is Mommy and Daddy's private time."

"Private time, huh? What did you have in mind?"

"Well, if anyone is going to prevent you from getting some sleep, I want it to be me."

"Is that a proposition?"

"I certainly hope so."

"Oh, please."

"Begging already, sweetheart?"

Brenda shook her head and began gently sucking the fingers of Jax's right hand. "Believe me, darling, you will be the one begging."

Jax rolled over on top of her and their ardor began. In the end, they had each begged and their pleas had been fulfilled beyond their wildest dreams.

The Jacks' Residence -- 11:00am

Lois and Brooke had arrived and Lois was happy to see Jane again. Lois introduced Jane to Brooke and then went to the gate house to allow Ned some time to spend with his daughter. This afternoon the three women were meeting Robin at the salon for manicures and facials. Brenda was also having her hair done for the photo shoot this evening. John and Jax were at the Foundation.

Lois returned from her trip to the gate house and met Brenda on the terrace. "Lois, how are you really?"

"I am managing. It is hard to see Ned but I can't deprive Brooke of her father or Ned of his daughter."

"Lois. you two still love each other so much."

"I know Bren but it just won't work."

"Isn't it worth another try?"

"It would just turn out the same way and I could not live through that again. Neither could Ned. Sometimes love just isn't enough. Look at you and Sonny."

"I know. Our love could not save us from the choices we made in our lives. It was not strong enough to stop us from hurting each other."

"Exactly, Brenda. You realized it and found everything you ever wanted in Jax. I have to admit that I did not think you would ever be able to let Sonny go."

"I still can't believe it myself sometimes. Jax has changed my life and the way I view myself. He is the best thing that ever happened to me and I thank God every day for him."

"You two are very lucky, Brenda. Your baby is also going to be very blessed."

The Charles Street Foundation -- 2:00pm

Miranda was in the office alone as John and Jax had walked over to the new offices to meet Scott. Miranda was anxious for the evening to begin. She had purchased a drop dead black dress for the evening. This was one time that she could outshine Brenda. Brenda certainly could not wear her usual sexy, revealing evening gown being six months pregnant. Miranda knew she would be turning a few heads and Jax would be one of them. As she was daydreaming of the evening ahead, Jax walked in alone.

"Miranda, you are here."

"Yes, I had a doctor's appointment and I just got in a few minutes ago."

"Are you okay? I hope that you are not ill?"

"No, I am just dealing with some things from the past."

"The past? You mean the accident?"

"Jax, I appreciate your concern but do not worry about me."

"Miranda, please tell me."

At that moment, Scott and John walked into the office and the conversation was interrupted. Jax walked over to Scott to review a proposal that had just arrived. Miranda silently cursed the timing but knew she would have other opportunities to discuss her medical problems with Jax. She was pleased that he seemed to express genuine concern for her. Tonight she hoped that he would be showing her more than concern when she walked into the ballroom on Scott's arm.

The AIDS Ball -- 8:00pm

Brenda had arrived earlier in the evening so that photos could be taken of her on stage before any guests arrived. Lucy had arranged for a room at the hotel so that Brenda could rest before the Ball began. Brenda looked incredible. She wore a low cut short-sleeved sapphire blue gown with silver heels. She wore the sapphire and diamond pendant that Jax had given her and a pair of sapphire earrings. Her hair was swept up on her head and her make-up made her whole face sparkle.

Brenda met Jax, John, Jane and Lois in the lobby of the hotel so they could enter together. Jane looked very sophisticated in a black gown and Lois looked beautiful in a light blue strapless gown. Both John and Jax looked quite handsome in the tuxedos. Jax's vest had splashes of sapphire blue in the stripes to match Brenda's gown. After the photos were taken at the door, they were seated at a table in front of the center of the stage.

The Quartermaine table which seated Edward, Lila, Alan, Monica and Ned was positioned directly across from the Jacks' table. At one nearby table sat Sonny, Gina, Mac, Robin and Jason while at another adjacent table sat Scott, Miranda, Kevin, Katherine and Mac. Jane noticed the look on Brenda's face when Miranda walked into the room. Miranda and Scott stopped at the Jacks' table to say their hellos.

"Good evening everyone."

"Hello Scott and Miranda. Scott, I want to introduce you to Lois Ashton."

"Hello, Lois. The Jacks men are quite fortunate to be surrounded by three such beautiful women."

"Pleased to meet you, Scott. Speaking for the three ladies at this table, we thank you for the compliment."

Miranda and Scott took their seats as Robin and Jason stopped at the Jacks' table. Robin looked lovely in a rose colored gown. The evening's events were about to start so everyone took their seats. Alan introduced Lucy as the Mistress of Ceremonies. Lucy walked out to the awe of the crowd in a two piece deep purple outfit which revealed all of her assets and them some. Lucy introduced the Jacks family and thanked them for the underwriting of the evening.

Tony Jones then took the stage for a musical number. Shortly thereafter, Brenda went backstage to prepare for her introduction of the tribute to the victims of AIDS. It was very warm backstage so Brenda took advantage of the few moments before her presentation to walk out onto the adjoining terrace and get some fresh air. There was a break in the entertainment action so Katherine and Miranda went to the ladies room. Miranda noticed Brenda on the terrace. At the same time Sonny needed to get some air so he left the ballroom to go to the terrace. Miranda saw him walk onto the terrace. She told Katherine she had left something at the table and she returned to the ballroom where she found Jax at the champagne table and let it slip to Jax that Sonny and Brenda were together on the terrace.

Meanwhile, Brenda was lost in thought on the terrace and did not hear Sonny approach her. He walked up behind her and gently touched her shoulder.

"Rough night, isn't it?"

"You would think it would get easier but it doesn't."

"No, it doesn't. I am worried about Robin and her speech. Last year was so difficult for her."

"Sonny, I think Robin will be fine. She is the rock while we are all falling apart. Besides Jason is here to support her if she needs it."

"Brenda, do you think about Stone often?"

"All the time now. I even had a dream about him recently. He was happy and at peace so it was very comforting."

"I'm glad. Well, I had better get back to Robin and Jason. Brenda, you look beautiful."

"Thank you, Sonny."

Jax saw Sonny re-enter the ballroom and he then walked toward the terrace. Brenda was still standing at the rail. Jax walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her. "Are you okay, love?"

"I am now. Sonny was just out here and we were discussing the fact that this evening does not get any easier even as time passes."

"You both loved Stone and you both love Robin so I think it will always be very difficult."

"I wish you had known Stone."

"I do too but I feel like I know him because you have shared so much about him with me."

"What would I ever do without you Jax?"

"I do not plan to ever have you find that out."

The evening's festivities continued. Brenda presented the tribute to a rousing ovation as well as some ogles from the audience. Miranda was stunned that Brenda still could garner this type of attention even being six months pregnant. Dara Jensen then sang "I Believe in You and Me." The crowd was impressed and Lois and Brenda were thrilled since Dara had finally relented and signed with L & B Records.

Lucy had made several changes of attire at this point. Each gown was more incredible than its predecessor. Lucy had performed a production number to the music of the macarena. She had no competition from Katherine Bell this year. It was now time for Robin to give her speech. It was again very moving and emotional. Jax squeezed Brenda's hand as tears appeared in the corners of her eyes. Robin was as composed as the Rock of Gibraltar and she received a standing ovation at the close of her speech. Brenda nodded at Sonny across the room as the speech ended.

The evening ended with the annual dance number to the song "One" from A Chorus Line. Lucy managed to keep her clothes on this year much to the chagrin of the audience. The benefit raised more money than ever before and was considering a resounding success. Brenda knew Stone was smiling down on them all.

Jacks' Cosmetics Photo Shoot -- 11:00am

Today was the production for the final installment of the ad campaign. Brenda's pregnancy was now blossoming but she was still able to work without too much discomfort. She was dressed in bright yellow sundress which accentuated her golden tan. The shoot was taking place outside on the grounds of the Port Charles Country Club. She was photographed walking through the rose garden, standing inside the gazebo and sitting on an old-fashioned porch swing. The breeze swept her hair around her face as the swing moved in gentle motion.

She kicked her sandals off as the swing moved higher into the air. It was a refreshing sunny day and the shots captured Brenda's natural beauty. Chase told Lucy the shots were just what they wanted. Today's shots would be used after the distribution of the shots taken at the AIDS Ball. Lucy was thrilled with the success of the campaign. Brenda would have some public appearances until the end of next month but thereafter she would have the next few months off from her duties for Jacks' Cosmetics.

Lucy was still on cloud nine from the success of the AIDS Ball. After the shoot, she and Brenda had lunch at the country club. "Brenda, this campaign is going to bring in all time numbers I just know it."

"I hope so, Lucy. I certainly want all your hard work rewarded."

"Our hard work, Brenda. You have been incredible and I know it has not always been easy due to the pregnancy. I remember those days very well when I carried Serena."

"Serena is incredible. Scott brought her to the house over the weekend and she thoroughly enjoyed the pool. She looked adorable in those little water wings. She is quite a little girl."

"Yes, she is. I missed her so much. I will never be able to thank Jax enough for offering Scott the job with J & J Jacks."

"I know Scott is happy to be back here."

"He seems to be. Tell me something. Was that Miranda person with him when he came to the house?"

"No, thankfully."

"Next week she starts working for Scott and I already dread it. I just wish I knew what she wants. I sense something is going on but I can't figure out what it is. I am definitely going to keep my eye on her."

"Believe me, Lucy. We will all be keeping an eye on her."

The Charles Street Foundation -- 2:00pm

Jax and Justus were reviewing the plans for the drug rehabilitation center when Mac walked onto the office.

"Police Commissioner, what brings you here?"

"Not official business Justus. I need to speak to Jax about something in private."

"Well, I have some calls to make so I will go into the conference room and give you some privacy."

"Mac, what is this about?"

"Miranda."

"What about Miranda?"

"Have you noticed anything strange about her recently?"

"No, but I have been so tied up with various projects that I have not spent a lot of time with her. What makes you ask?"

"I know she has been seeing doctors lately and she does not want to talk about."

"I am aware of that. It has come up a few times but she always tells me not to worry."

"Yesterday I found her in the office at The Outback and she seemed to be in a state of confusion."

"What do you mean?"

"I don't know exactly but she seemed to be out of it. When I asked her about she brushed me off."

"You now how independent Miranda can be. I will keep my eye out for any strange behavior and I will try to talk to her."

"One more thing Jax."

"What?"

"She asked me some details about the explosion."

"What type of details?"

"She asked me about the rescue efforts."

"She never wanted to talk about the accident before. I will definitely talk to her about this."

As Mac left the Foundation office, Miranda rounded the corner. She stepped back around the corner so that Mac would not see her. She suspected that Mac had gone to the office to find Jax. Her little state of confusion from the day before had worked. Jax was going to be forced into spending time with her now and he would realize what they both were missing. Miranda smiled all the way home.

The Jacks' Residence -- 8:00pm

Jax and Brenda were on the couch in the den. Brenda was leaning against Jax's shoulder as he sipped a brandy. A glass of milk sat in front of her on the table.

"I can't wait until I can stop eating and drinking all these dairy products."

"You have been such a trouper but it's almost over. Only three more months."

"Yes, but then I should drink milk since I will be nursing the baby. It will never end."

Jax tightened his arms around her. "Thank you for being so concerned and for taking such good care of our angel."

"Jax you know that this baby is the most important thing to me. I will do whatever it takes. I will complain but I will do it."

"You are something else. Don't ever change, Mrs. Jacks."

"You will regret that one day but okay. Is everything ready for the big move next week?"

"Yes, everything seems to be in order."

"Is Addie looking forward to the relocation?"

"She seems to be."

"I am so happy that you won't have to travel so much. I also want you to know how proud I am for all the benefits J & J Jacks has brought to Port Charles. You are quite a man in this town, Jax."

"All I want to be is the man in your life."

"You are the only man in my life and the only man in my heart."

Monday, June 30, 1997
The Jacks' Residence -- 8:30am

Jax was getting dressed as Brenda awakened. "Sweetie, I didn't mean to wake you. You were very restless last night, go back to sleep."

"I'm okay. The baby was very active last night. Ready for the first day in your new office?"

"Yes. I'm just glad this day has finally arrived. Now we can get some work done."

"Promise me you won't inundate Addie with work on her first day on the job in Port Charles. Give her one day of peace."

"I guess I can do that. I will tell Addie that she has a fan club."

"Jax, We all now how important fan clubs are."

"Yes, fan clubs are essential and worthy of much praise and admiration."

Jax walks over to the bed and kissed Brenda and then kissed her stomach. "Have a good day my loves. I love you both."

"We will and we love too. Good luck and congratulations."

J & J Jacks -- 12:30pm

Jax and Addie had spent the morning organizing the office. Addie had left for lunch and Jax had just finished a call with John when there was a knock at the door. Without looking up, Jax told the person to enter.

"Jax, I am going to get some sandwiches for Scott and me and wondered if you needed anything."

"No thank you, Miranda. You do not need to worry about me. Addie will take care of anything I require."

"I'm sorry I bothered you, Jax."

"No, Miranda. I am sorry. Do you have a minute?"

"Yes, Scott is at the Foundation and won't be back for another half hour."

"Sit down. I am concerned about you Miranda and I want you to be honest with me."

"What are you talking about?"

"Are you ill? Do not tell me not to be concerned because I am and so is Mac."

"Are you two ganging up on me again?"

"Miranda we care about you. What is going on?"

"Jax I don't want to talk about this."

"Miranda."

"Jax, I can't. Just leave it alone. It will be better for all of us. I'm sorry but I have to leave."

Miranda abruptly left the office leaving a stunned Jax behind. As Miranda got into the elevator and the doors closed, she allowed a grin to appear on her face. Jax was concerned and Mac had spoken to him just like she had suspected. This plan was going to work she just knew it.

J & J Jacks -- 6:00pm

Miranda had left the offices for the day a few minutes before. She had made sure that she did not run into Jax any more this afternoon. She wanted to keep him guessing so that he would be continually thinking of her. Scott was working in his office and Addie was finishing up some typing for Jax in her outside office. Jax was on the phone in his office. Brenda exited the elevator and walked to the outside office.

"Hello Addie. I see my husband still has you chained to your desk."

"He is not really too terrible of an ogre. It is very nice to see you Mrs. Jacks."

"Please call me Brenda. Is he in the office?"

"Yes, he is on the phone. I can announce you."

"I want to surprise him. Have a good evening."

Brenda tiptoed to the partially open door to his office. She saw that Jax was on the phone. He was throwing darts a dart board and had his back to her. She squeezed through the door and then eased it closed. She quietly locked the door and moved to the sofa and sat down. Jax finished his call and threw the last dart hitting the center of the bulls eye.

"Is this what you do all day, throw darts at a dart board?"

Jax shook his head and turned around to see Brenda. "Is this what you do all day, sneak into other people's offices?"

"Only if the offices belong to an Adonis."

Jax started blushing. "I thought you never blushed Mr. Jacks."

"Mrs. Jacks, to what do I owe this unexpected pleasure?"

"I told our little angel that we would visit Daddy's office and see him hard at work. Little did I know that you would be playing darts when we arrived."

Jax could not hide the smirk on his face. "You are in quite a mood today, aren't you?"

Brenda got up from the sofa and walked over to Jax and sat on his lap. "I will show you what kind of mood I am in."

Brenda loosened his tie and unbuttoned his shirt while nibbling on his ear. She then began kissing his throat and neck. Jax was losing his train of thought. "Are you seducing me?"

"God, I hope so. We need to christen this new desk."

Jax's mouth hungrily met hers as he lifted her onto the desk. Brenda knocked the calculator and desk set onto the floor as Jax cleared away the files.

"Brenda, the door."

"It's locked."

Their lips met again as Jax pulled off his shirt. He then eased the sundress over Brenda's head as she kicked off her sandals. Jax made sure the intercom was off as Brenda pulled him on top of her. Their passion quickly reached the overload stage as their hearts and bodies became one. When their appetites had been completely satisfied, Jax collapsed into his chair.

"Brenda, you are unbelievable."

"Thank heavens you have a large desk."

"Brenda, I meant what I said last week. Don't ever change."

"Don't worry, I won't. However, next time I suggest we christen the sofa, this desk is murder on my back."

"What did I ever do to deserve you?"

Brenda laughed. "You must have been a saint in a past life."

Jax and Brenda got dressed and reorganized the desk. Jax picked up his brief case and Brenda unlocked the door. They headed to the elevator arm in arm knowing that their love would continue to allow them to reap the rewards they deserved.
