The Jacks' Residence -- 1:00pm
Brenda had just finished her shower after her afternoon laps in the pool when Corrine knocked at the bedroom door.
"Mrs. Jacks, this was just delivered to you via special delivery."
"Thank you, Corrine."
Brenda examined the box and noted that it had been sent from London. She was not expecting anything but she knew with Jax you had to expect the unexpected. She opened the box and unwrapped a beautiful hand carved music box which played the Brahms's Lullaby. Brenda remembered having a similar music box when she was growing up but she did not recall telling Jax about it. She opened the card and was stunned as to its contents. It read as follows:
Brenda,
I am writing to congratulate you on the success of your new campaign for Jacks' Cosmetics. The promotion has reached the European markets and seems to be generating the same tremendous sales volume as has occurred in the States. You should be very proud of your accomplishments. I know that I never supported your decision to enter the modeling field but obviously your talent has created success for both you and your employers.
I know that I have not been in contact with you since you wrote me about your pregnancy but I can see from the ads that pregnancy agrees with you. I met a mutual friend of ours last week, Augustin Dubois, and he tells me that you and Jax are very happy. I am happy that you have found someone to share your life with.
I remembered that you had a music box as a child and I found it boxed up with some of the items from the old house. I do not know if you remember it, but the music box had belonged to your mother when she was a child. I thought you may appreciate it now so I have sent it to you.
I know that we have lost touch over the past few years but I would like to be part of my niece or nephew's life if you are willing to allow me to do so. I will be in New York in two weeks and if you are up to it, I would like to come to Port Charles for a visit. Please let me know if this is agreeable to you.
Please give my regards to Jax.
Julia
Brenda's hands were shaking as she finished the letter. She had to re-read it to make sure she was not imagining things. Julia actually wanted to be part of their lives, to be part of a family. And her Mother's music box, Brenda had forgotten about it. Now she could give the baby something from its grandmother. The baby started an intense kicking spree and Brenda turned on the music box. Almost immediately, the baby settled down.
Brenda smiled as a wave of tranquillity seemed to touch her heart. She looked at the clock and quickly called Julia's office in London. Julia was out of the office so Brenda left Julia a message that her visit to Port Charles was eagerly anticipated. Once she hung up the phone, Brenda could not stop the tears of joy which were freely flowing down her cheeks. As Corrine passed the bedroom and overheard Brenda's tears, Corrine's face registered a look of concern.
J & J Jacks -- 2:00pm
Miranda had avoided Jax since their discussion the day before but he had cornered her in the conference room.
"Miranda, we need to finish our conversation from yesterday. I am very concerned about this. I do not understand why you ran out of my office."
"Jax, I am sorry. I was just a little on edge yesterday since it was my first day of work here."
"Fine. Now I want an answer to my question. Are you ill?"
"Jax, I told you that it was nothing to worry about. I am just dealing with a problem from the past."
"Miranda, does this have anything to do with the accident?"
"What makes you think it has anything to do with the accident?"
"First of all, I know that your recovery took years but I do not know any of the details. I have no idea if you are suffering any residual effects from your injuries. Also Mac told me that you were asking him about the explosion and I am wondering why."
"Jax, I do not want you to worry about me. I have been dealing with my recovery alone for six years and I will continue to do so."
"Miranda, why do you have to be so damn stubborn? Why won't you let anyone help you?"
At that moment Addie entered the conference room and told Jax that Corrine was on the phone and needed to speak to him. Jax picked up the conference room extension. "Corrine, is there a problem?"
"Mr. Jacks, I hate to bother you but I am concerned about Mrs. Jacks."
"Is she ill?"
"No, I do not believe so but she seems very upset. She received a package this morning and ..."
Jax interrupted her. His thoughts raced back to the deliveries from Harry. "A package. What kind of package?"
"I am unaware of its contents but I know that Mrs. Jacks has opened it."
"Corrine, I am on way home. Make sure Brenda stays there."
Jax slammed the phone down. "Miranda, I have to get home. Please tell Addie I will call her."
Scott was exiting the elevator and Jax yelled for him to hold the doors and ran to them before Miranda could speak. As the elevator doors closed, Miranda cursed Brenda. She wondered what in the world Brenda was pulling now to garner Jax's attention.
The Jacks' Residence -- 3:00pm
Brenda had decided to put the burst of energy she was feeling to good use. She was sitting on the floor of the large walk-in closet in the master suite going through all her clothes and shoes. She knew that Jax would never believe she was actually considering getting rid of anything. Her wardrobe had always been a source of debate between them. He often compared her to Imelda Marcos because of her extensive shoe collection.
Jax pulled the car into the driveway and met Corrine in the foyer. Corrine told Jax that Brenda was in the master suite. Jax took the stairs two at a time and called out Brenda's name as he entered the doorway to the room. Brenda was stunned to hear his voice but had a difficult time extricating herself from her position on the floor.
"Jax, I'm in the closet."
Jax walked to the open closet door and found Brenda sitting on the floor amid a sea of shoes. They both had looks of surprise on their faces. Jax spoke first.
"What are you doing?"
"Cleaning out the closet. Why are you here in the middle of the day?"
"I came because I heard you were upset and that you received some mysterious package."
"What are you talking about? Before you answer that, can you help me get off this floor?"
Jax helped Brenda to her feet and they walked into the bedroom and sat on the bed. "Jax, did Corrine call you?"
"Yes, she did. Now, it is my turn to ask the questions. Did you receive a package today?"
"Honey, everything is fine. In fact, everything is perfect. Julia sent me a package which contained a music box that belonged to my mother. The package also contained a note from Julia and I was very emotional after reading it. These hormones play havoc with my emotions. I was not upset, I was happy. Here, read the note."
Jax read the note and took a deep breath. "Brenda, I'm sorry I flew in here like a madman but ..."
Brenda put her finger to Jax's lips. "Don't ever apologize for being concerned about me. I love you for that. I am sorry that I did not call you about the package but I figured I would tell you about it when you came home. Look, here is the music box. Isn't it beautiful?"
"Yes, it is beautiful. I am so happy that Julia wants to visit. I know how much you have always wanted to be close to her. Maybe this can be the start."
"Oh, I hope so. I called her office and left her a message that I was eager to see her."
"It has been years since I have seen her. I am looking forward to seeing her again."
Brenda leaned back onto the bed. "Jax, everything is so perfect now it scares me."
Jax leaned back onto the bed next to Brenda. "Brenda, let yourself be happy. You deserve it, we deserve it."
Brenda caressed his cheek. "Falling in love with you was the first right thing I ever did in my life."
"Brenda, I never knew that it was possible to love someone as much as I love you. I can't imagine my life without you."
"You don't have to wonder about that. Nobody leaves, remember."
"I remember."
Luke's Club -- 8:00pm
Miranda was sitting at the bar with Scott when Alexis entered the restaurant. Sonny noticed that Miranda turned away at the sight of Alexis.
"Ms. Davis, can I help you?"
"Mr. Corinthos, will you agree to seat a member of the Cassidine family or has your partner turned you against all of us?"
"Well, I do not generally turn away lovely ladies."
"Quite a charmer, I see. You should give some lessons to Mr. Spencer. It would do wonders for him."
"I will keep that in mind. Are you joining someone this evening or are you here to drive all the unavailable men wild?"
"You are a silver-tongued devil, aren't you?
"I have been called a lot worse."
"I'm sure you have. Alexis and Sonny lock gazes for a few moments. "I am meeting Alan and Monica Quartermaine so I will need a table for three."
"I will show you to your table."
Sonny led Alexis to a table and pulled the chair out for her before passing her a menu. "Enjoy your evening, Ms. Davis."
"I fully expect to do so, Mr. Corinthos."
As Sonny walked back to the entrance, he noticed Miranda's interest in his conversation with Alexis. He wondered what it was about Alexis that seemed to pique Miranda's interest. He also had noticed how close Miranda and Gina had become. Sonny couldn't help but wonder why Miranda would be so friendly with a college student.
As the evening drew to a close, Monica, Alan and Alexis prepared to leave the Club. Alan and Monica exited after exchanging pleasantries with Gina. Sonny came out of his office as Alexis headed for the door.
"Have a good evening, Ms. Davis. Feel free to stop by anytime. I will put in a good word for you with my partner."
"I may take you up on that offer, Mr. Corinthos."
"I'm looking forward to it. Good-night."
"Good-night."

The Jacks' Residence -- 11:30am
It was the end of a very hectic week. The new offices of J & J Jacks had opened, Jax had attended several board meetings, Brenda had made some public appearances and Brenda had spoken to Julia about her visit to Port Charles. Later this afternoon, the Fourth of July celebration would begin in the park. Jax and Brenda had taken advantage of the quiet morning and had remained in bed. They had just finished the breakfast that Jose had served them in bed.
"What a way to spend the morning. Everyone should be so lucky."
"I certainly consider myself lucky to have been able to hold you in my arms all morning."
"Pretty soon you will not be able to fit your arms around me."
"Trust me, there is nothing that will ever prevent me from holding you."
"We will see about that come September."
"Brenda, do you realize how beautiful you are? You are giving me the most precious gift that I could ever receive."
"Why do you always know exactly what to say to make me feel better?"
"Mum always said I was special."
"Funny, since I hear otherwise from her. Of course Jerry tells me that he was the gifted child of the family."
"Of course he did. Jerry has an ego the size of the Grand Canyon. Gifted child my ...."
Brenda interrupted him. "Shhh. The baby can hear you."
"Is this going to be your new crusade?"
"Jax, stop rolling your eyes at me. I just think we should watch what we say. I do not want the baby to have the wrong impression of his Uncle Jerry."
"Jerry will take care of that himself the first time he meets the child."
"How in the world did your mother put up with the two of you growing up?"
"Tranquilizers."
"Stop it, Jax. You are going to rue the day you said these things when you have a child who is just like you."
"Well, as long as our child does not inherit its mother's propensity for gabbiness."
"Are you saying that I have a big mouth? You ..."
"Shhh. Sweetie, remember the baby can hear you and we wouldn't want her to get the wrong impression."
"I'll give you an impression, mister." Brenda began swatting him with a pillow.
Jax laughed as he grabbed the pillow from her hands. "Stop. What kind of lesson are you teaching the baby?"
"Little one, this is what happens when someone insults your mother. This is called punishment." Brenda grabbed another pillow and continued to hit Jax."
Jax collapsed onto the bed and threw up his hands in surrender. "Okay, okay. I offer my heartfelt apologies and I bask in the aura of your presence with all my humility. I plead for your mercy."
"Little one, this is what you would call groveling. Your father has mastered the art."
Jax flashed Brenda a huge grin. She tossed the pillow aside and knelt beside Jax. "Now back to your offer pleading for my mercy." Brenda began kissing him behind his ear. She quickly worked her lips over to his neck and throat. Jax moaned and Brenda slowly made a path from his neck to his heart with her tongue. Jax pulled Brenda on top of him and their lips united. Between kisses, Jax cried out, "Mercy" and the fires of their passions ignited.
Port Charles Park -- 4:00pm
The Fourth of July celebration events were under way. Ruby and Mike were cooking hot dogs and hamburgers on the grills while Felicia and Mac were in charge of the lemonade and soda stands. Eddie Maine and the Idle Rich were providing the musical entertainment. The competitive events were now in full swing.
Lucky and Emily had won the water balloon race. The potato sack race was won by the team of Jason and Robin. They had narrowly edged out the team of A.J. and Keesha. In the three-legged race, Lucy and Kevin crossed the finish line just seconds before Scott and Miranda. Sigmund had accompanied Lucy to the festivities and the duck had chased Lucy and Kevin all the way to the finish line. Scott protested the victory due to interference by a webbed footed fan but the judges denied the protest and awarded the victory to Lucy and Kevin. Brenda laughed so hard that she had a hard time catching her breath.
The final event of the day was the tug of war competition. The teams were divided between the hospital staff/Quartermaine family vs. the staffs of Luke's, the Outback, and J & J Jacks. Luke lead his team and Stefan led the other. Needless to say, the testosterone levels were at their peaks. Justus was the anchor for Stefan's team while Mac anchored Luke's team.
Lucky and Nicholas were the leads on their respective teams. The competition was taking place over a water hazard. As the event progressed, Lucky and Nicholas went into the water followed by Stefan and Luke. All Laura, Lesley and Alexis could do was shake their heads at the never ending saga of the Cassidine vs. Spencer feud. Edward was in the middle of one of his typical tirades as he tried to urge his team to victory. In the end, the victory went to Luke's team. Edward was still bellowing about the loss as the evening progressed.
As the sun began to set, everyone enjoyed their picnic dinners. Lucy, Kevin and Sigmund shared a meal with Jax and Brenda. The weather was beautiful and Brenda leaned against Jax enjoying the gentle breeze. As they ate, Lucy started to get a feeling about Brenda and the baby.
"Brenda, I'm getting a vision."
Kevin rolled his eyes. "Lucy, I do not think you should be involving Brenda in your visions."
"It is getting clearer. Oh, oh, I see you and the baby Brenda."
Kevin shook his head. "Lucy, your recent visions have been less than accurate and that is putting it mildly."
"Doc, I can't help seeing these things. It's a gift."
"Give it back," said Kevin.
Brenda was curious. "Lucy, what do you see?"
"I see you with the baby. You have just given birth and you are in the car."
A look of shock appears on Brenda's face. "What?"
Lucy concentrated to get a better look at the vision. "I see tan leather seats with mahogany door panels."
"That's the interior of our new Rolls."
Jax saw Brenda's panic and took a deep breath. "Brenda, I am sure that Lucy's imagination is just on overdrive now."
Kevin gave Lucy a stern look. "Yes, Jax, I am sure Lucy is mistaken."
Lucy realized the distress Brenda was experiencing. "Brenda, the guys are right. My powers have been completely out of whack lately."
"Maybe so, but Jax I am not traveling in the Rolls until after this baby is born."
As night fell, the fireworks extravaganza began. Jax wrapped a blanket around Brenda as she snuggled closely to him. Lucky and Emily wove a path through the crowd with sparklers. Robin and Jason shared a blanket with Jax and Brenda as the ladies enjoyed the homemade ice cream that Laura had made.
The evening ended as Jax and Brenda walked arm and arm to the car. A day of entertainment ended with a night of celebration for all of Port Charles.

J & J Jacks -- 11:00am
Scott was in Toronto for the day wrapping up some contract negotiations. Jax had asked Addie to alert him when Miranda arrived in the office. Addie buzzed Jax to announce Miranda's arrival and Jax immediately went to Scott's office suite. He entered the suite and closed the door as Miranda was just sitting down at her desk.
"Jax. Good morning. Can I help you with something?"
"Miranda, I am here to get some answers."
"Answers about what?
"You, Miranda."
"Jax, we have discussed this."
"No, we have not. However, we are going to discuss it now."
"Jax, leave it alone."
"I won't. I have spoken to Mac and he is very concerned. You saw a doctor again this morning, didn't you?"
Jax walked closer to Miranda and she could see the intensity in his eyes. "So, I saw a doctor. Why is that any of your concern?"
"Miranda, why do you insist on not allowing anyone to care about you? You are going to tell me what the problem is. I understand from Mac that you are having trouble sleeping. You have also seemed agitated to me lately. This is not like you, Miranda."
"Jax, I am working through some things. I am handling it."
"Why were you asking about the explosion? What does the explosion have to do with your problems?"
"Jax, please."
Miranda tried to get away from Jax's reach but he grabbed her hand before she could. Miranda could barely contain herself. She had his attention. He had been concerned about her which meant he was thinking about her.
"Miranda, tell me."
Miranda decided this was the perfect opportunity to move full steam ahead with the plan. "Jax, I am seeing a psychiatrist to help me deal with some issues from the past."
"You mean the accident, don't you?"
"Jax, I am dealing with it."
"My God, Miranda. What are you dealing with?"
"The doctor seems to think I am suffering from post traumatic stress disorder."
"What?" Jax put his hand to his head and began pacing as memories of the explosion cloud his mind. "How much more of your life could I have destroyed?"
"Jax, this isn't your fault. I knew that you would feel responsible for my problems which is why I did not want to tell you about them."
Miranda was enjoying the scene before her. She had Jax right where she wanted him. Guilt could be such an asset.
"Miranda, how can you say that? Everything that has happened to you over the past six years is because of that mine. You have been dealing with it all alone. I am not going to let that happen any longer."
"Jax, I am out of your life. You have Brenda and a baby to worry about. I am not part of that picture."
"Miranda, I am going to be there for you. You have my word on this. I will do anything and everything to help you. I just need to know how. I will not let you push me out of your life like you did six years ago."
"All right, Jax. I do not have the energy to argue with you about this. I will talk to the doctor to see if there is anything that you can do. I do have one stipulation. Please do not say anything to anyone about this, especially to your family. I can't deal with being the source of guilt or concern from anyone else right now."
"Miranda, I don't think I can promise that."
"It's the only way I can let you become involved with this. The accident has been such a cause of problems between you and Brenda and you and your family. I can't take any more of that. I also can't worry about how this may affect Brenda's health and the baby. She does not need any more stress."
Jax hated the idea of Miranda's request but did worry about how Brenda would handle this. "Okay, Miranda. I will honor your request for the time being."
"Thanks, Jax. We are all going to get through this."
L & B Records -- 3:00pm
Today was the first day for Dara Jensen in the recording studio. Lois had come to town for the day to help Brenda with all the arrangements. Brooke was spending the day with Lila. Dara was extremely nervous and could not believe she had allowed Lois and Brenda to talk her into this. The morning session had been stressful as Dara's nerves were getting the better of her. When Peter, the audio engineer, was about to reach his breaking point, Brenda picked up the phone and placed a call to Justus.
Justus arrived and Brenda explained the situation. As Brenda had anticipated, Justus immediately baited Dara back into her cool and collected court room demeanor. After her discussion with Justus, Dara's composure had returned and the afternoon session was going very smoothly. Lois and Brenda monitored the session while catching up with one another.
"Bren, I think its great that Julia is coming to Port Charles next week to see you. I know that you two have never been close, but maybe this is a start to a better relationship."
"Lois, I hope so."
"Just do not go in with too high of an expectation."
"I know. Jax tells me the same thing. He does not want me to get hurt."
"Of course, he doesn't. Brenda, he loves you so much."
"He is the best thing that ever happened to me. If Edward hadn't been such a tyrant about Ned's singing and you had not sought Jax out for your plan, he would never have come to Port Charles. I will owe you and Edward forever."
"Brenda, I think you and Jax were meant to be together. You would have found each other somehow."
"You are right. As Jax says, we were inevitable."
Brenda looked at Lois and could not help but notice the sadness in her eyes. "Speaking of inevitable, what about Ned?"
"Unfortunately, every couple was not meant to be together."
"Lois, you two love each other. You have a child. You belong together. I see how miserable both of you are."
"It is not that simple."
"Why not? You have to try to work this out. I almost lost everything a few months ago and I learned that you have to make your own happiness and hold on to it for dear life. You and Ned deserve your chance at happiness, so does Brooke."
"Brenda, I don't think I could live through losing everything again."
"So, you are going to give up your chance for happiness because you are afraid. I know that mind set, Lois. It was the story of my life until recently. I was so afraid to let Jax into my heart because I could not bear the idea of getting hurt again. I took the chance and look at the rewards. You have to be willing to take the risk."
"Brenda, I don't know."
"Just think about it."
"I will think about it."
The Jacks' Residence -- 9:00pm
Brenda and Lois had finished up at the studio with Dara for the day. Lois was on her way back to Bensonhurst with Brooke. Dara would have another session tomorrow but Brenda was handling it alone. Brenda had come home and soaked in the bathtub. Her back was starting to bother her and she knew this was just the beginning of this problem. She had seen Dr. Meadows the day before and Dr. Meadows had given her some tips on sleeping positions to keep the pressure off her back. She and Jax had also signed up for Lamaze classes starting later in the month.
Jax was dealing with a labor problem in the Alaskan oil refineries this afternoon so he had stayed at the office very late. He was almost glad to be dealing with a problem today. It kept his mind off of his discussion with Miranda. He knew how difficult it was going to be not to tell Brenda but he also wanted to find out more about Miranda's problems before he spoke to anyone about them. He entered the master suite just as Brenda walked out of the bathroom from her bath.
"Jax, how are you? You look so tired."
Jax walked over and kissed Brenda and patted her stomach. "I am fine. Don't worry about me. You are the one I am worried about. How was Dara's session?"
"Shaky at first but we were able to lay some tracks down. Hopefully tomorrow will be more productive. What's the situation with the refineries?"
"Status quo. We were able to avoid a walk-out but I do not know how much longer our luck will hold. I may have to send Scott there to handle things personally."
"Jax, I hope you are not avoiding traveling to Alaska yourself because you are worried about me. The baby and I are fine. You need to do what you have to do to run J & J Jacks. I don't want you to sacrifice ..."
Jax stopped Brenda in mid sentence with a tender kiss on her lips. "Enough, Brenda. It is my privilege to worry about you. They are no such things as sacrifices when it comes to you and our little one. The subject is closed."
"Yes, sir." Brenda walked over to the bed and sat down. Jax noticed that her back was bothering her again.
"Lie down, sweetie. I'll give you a back rub."
Brenda rested on her side as Jax gently massaged her back and shoulders. After Jax was finished, he helped Brenda position the pillows beneath her to relieve the stress to her back. He then dressed for bed and slid under the sheets.
"Jax, I just want you to know that you couldn't be anymore attentive or supportive to me than you have been throughout this entire pregnancy. I will never forget that."
"Brenda, I have done nothing but take care of the woman I love who is bringing my child into the world. You are the one that should be thanked. You are giving me the most precious gift in the world."
They spent the night dreaming of their future together as they basked in the love that had created their little miracle.

The Jacks' Residence -- 8:30am
Jax was getting dressed as Brenda showered. She had hardly slept at all the night before. Julia was arriving later today and Brenda's anxiety had now become complete trepidation. Between Brenda's anxiety, the refinery labor dispute and Miranda's problems, Jax was not doing so well himself. Fortunately Brenda had been presumed his uneasiness was about the labor dispute. He was regretting more and more his promise to Miranda. He hated keeping any secrets from Brenda.
Miranda had told him that she would speak to her doctor about Jax's offer of assistance. Jax was very surprised to hear that Miranda was being treated by a psychiatrist at Mercy Hospital rather than at General Hospital. She had claimed her choice of doctors was based on her wish to keep her condition and treatment a secret. She had not provided him with much detail and he was getting frustrated but the labor dispute had taken the focus of his energies of late so he had been unable to speak to her about it at any length.
Jerry had been in Munich on business and would be staying with Jax and Brenda for the night before he headed to Alaska. Jax, Jerry and Scott were scheduled to meet this afternoon about the refinery problems. It was perfect timing since Julia would be joining Jax and Brenda for dinner and Brenda was anxious for Julia to meet Jax's family.
Brenda walked out of the bathroom as Jax was straightening his tie. "Is it my imagination or do you get more handsome every day?"
"Well, you do have a very wild imagination," he said teasingly.
Brenda began brushing her hair.
"Brenda, I wish you were still in bed. You were so restless last night, you must be exhausted."
"I'm too nervous to sleep." At that moment, a tremendous crash of thunder was heard. "Listen to that thunder and rain. The radio said it was going to storm all day. I hope the weather does not interfere with Julia's flight."
"Brenda, stop worrying."
"I know I am being ridiculous. I am just apprehensive. I wish I could have convinced Julia to stay here rather than at the Port Charles Hotel."
"Brenda, I think it is probably best this way. This will give you both some space and alleviate some of the pressure."
"You're right as usual. I just wish this evening would get here. If you get tied up with the refinery matter, just let me know and I will let Julia know we will have to change our plans."
Jax walked over to Brenda and took both her hands in his. "I will be here, I promise. Please try to calm down. I love you and everything is going to be fine."
"I love you, Jax. Thank you for being my rock."
J & J Jacks -- Noon
Jax had stepped into the conference room as Miranda was pouring herself a cup of coffee. He had noticed her recent caffeine intake and thought it was surprising since she had been suffering from bouts of insomnia. He had also casually asked Scott about Miranda's disposition and Scott had replied that she was very calm, focused and good-natured. Addie had expressed the same sentiment. Jax was perplexed since Miranda seemed so different around him.
"Miranda, how are you feeling?"
"Today is not a great day, Jax. I am just trying to get through it."
"What did your doctor say when you asked him about my offer of help?"
"He is considering some possibilities."
"What possibilities?"
"I'm not sure."
"What is this doctor's name? I am not doubting his abilities but you know that I can fly in the premiere specialist in this field."
"No, Jax." Miranda realized she had shouted so she quickly regained her composure. "I am sorry. I feel comfortable with Dr. Hartley."
"Okay, Miranda. It was just a thought. I have to get back to this union contract. Jerry will be here later this afternoon."
"Jax, remember your promise. I don't want Jerry to know anything about this."
"I remember."
As Miranda walked back to Scott's office suite, Jax remembered how uncomfortable Miranda had been ever since she had found out that Jerry would be in Port Charles. A little later when Jax passed Scott's suite, he heard the sound of raucous laughter from Scott and Miranda. Scott walked out to the main office and told Jax that Miranda had been cracking jokes all morning with him. Jax shook his head in wonder. The whole thing was getting more exasperating by the day. Once the labor dispute was over, he would have to figure this all out.
Port Charles Airport -- 3:00pm
The storms had worsened as the afternoon progressed. Julia's plane was an hour and a half late but it had finally landed. Her head was pounding and she could not wait to get to the hotel. She retrieved her bags from the baggage claim area and headed toward the taxi stands.
Jerry's plane had landed at the international terminal two hours late. He called Jax on his cellular phone as he raced to the customs area. Jerry had informed Jax of his travel delay so Addie had contacted the union negotiator to change the time for the conference call. Jerry got through customs and raced to the taxi stand.
Julia was trying to stand under the shelter of the overhang as the rain was blowing sideways. Of course there were no cabs in sight. People were everywhere and the rain was close to monsoon stage when Jerry approached the taxi stand. A cab finally pulled up and Julia picked up her bag to walk toward it. At the same time Jerry darted for the taxi. Jerry reached the cab and opened the passenger door as Julia approached.
"Excuse me. This is my cab."
"I don't think so."
"Well, your mental capacity is not my concern."
"Lady, and I do use the term loosely, I am in a hurry."
"Who the hell cares?. This is my cab."
The rain was pouring down on both of them and the delay had caused a traffic jam. The sound of blaring horns rang throughout the air.
Jerry moved to get into the cab and Julia grabbed his garment bag. As Jerry tried to pull it into the cab with him, the seam ripped.
"What the hell do you think you are doing?"
"Get out of that cab."
"Listen witch, I think you should be taking an ambulance to Bellevue."
"You pompous ass."
Jerry finally managed to be able to grab the interior door handle and pulled it shut as he yelled for the driver to go. In her effort to grab the outside door handle Julia stumbled and broke the heel of her shoe. Jerry looked back and laughed at the sight of the beautiful blonde rain drenched woman. Too bad he was in such a hurry. She could have been interesting.
The Jack's Residence -- 7:00pm
Brenda was pacing the floors. Jax was not home yet and Julia was due at any time. Brenda's breathing returned to normal as she heard Jax's car pull into the driveway. She raced to the front door and opened it.
"Sweetie, I'm sorry I'm late. Jerry's plane was late so the conference call was delayed."
"All that matters is that you are here now."
"You look beautiful. Have you heard from Julia?"
"Yes, her flight was also delayed. Virgil went to pick her up so I expect her shortly. Thank heavens it finally stopped raining. Do you really think I look okay?"
Jax pulled her into his arms and held her tightly. "You are the most beautiful woman in the world. Please try to relax."
Brenda suddenly realized that Jerry was not with Jax. "Where is Jerry?"
"He had a few phone calls to make so he stayed at the office. Scott is having dinner at the Quartermaines this evening so he is going to drop him Jerry off."
"How was his trip?"
"Fine until he reached Port Charles. He evidently had a run in at the airport with some blonde over a cab."
"I can imagine that scene. You know how Jerry can be."
"I most certainly do. I did not notice any claw marks so maybe he wasn't as bad as usual."
At that moment, Jax and Brenda heard the limo pull up to the front door. Brenda took a quick look in the mirror as Jax put his hands on her shoulders. "Breathe, Brenda." Corrine answered the door as Brenda and Jax awaited Julia's entrance.
As soon as Julia entered, Brenda hurried over to her. "Julia, I am so happy to see you. You look wonderful."
"Brenda, thank you. It is good to see you also. It has been too long. You certainly are radiant."
The two sisters hugged and then Brenda extended her hand to Jax. "Julia, you remember Jax."
"Yes, Jax. It has been a few years since the Belvedere soirees in London. How are you?"
"I am wonderful Julia thanks to your sister. You are looking as lovely as ever."
"Thank you. I must say you are much more charming than most of the men I encountered today."
"I can't imagine any man not be charming to such a beautiful woman."
"Well, Jax, let's just say charm seems to go out the window when it comes to hailing a cab in the rain at the airport."
Brenda felt her breath catch in her throat at Julia's words. She and Jax locked glances as Brenda prayed that their fears would not be realized when Jerry arrived. Jax went to change as Brenda gave Julia a tour of the house.
"Who did your decorating?"
"Actually I did most of it myself. Some of the furnishings were gifts from Jax's family and the art is from Jax's collection."
"It's quite lovely, Brenda. Maybe as a second career, you should think about doing some interior design work. You definitely have talent."
Brenda was taken aback at Julia's compliment. They walked into the nursery and Brenda walked over to her mother's music box. "Julia, I can't thank you enough for finding the music box and sending it to me. I am glad my child will be able to have something which belonged to its maternal grandmother."
"Brenda, I am glad that you can share it with your child. How much longer do I have before my niece or nephew enters the world?"
"About another ten weeks. Do you want to feel the baby move?"
"Now?"
"Yes, this is the baby's most active time of day. Here, give me your hand."
Brenda took Julia's hand and rested it on her fully rounded stomach. "Little one, this is your Aunt Julia. Say hello."
"Brenda, that is incredible."
"It is isn't it?"
Brenda and Julia met Jax in the hall as they ventured downstairs. They were having drinks in the living room when the doorbell rang. Corrine escorted Jerry into the living room. Brenda took one look at Julia's face and knew trouble was about to start.
"You're Jerry Jacks?"
"You're Julia Barrett?"
"You, arrogant ass. Do you know that your temper tantrum caused me to break the heal of my shoe?"
"Your shoe? What about my garment bag?"
"I do not giving a flying fig about your garment bag. You stole my cab. What happened when your parents taught their sons good manners, were you absent that day? Jax is a gentleman, what happened to you?"
"I could ask the same of you. Your sister is a lady but I can't say the same about you."
Jax saw that Brenda had her face in her hands. "Excuse me. I need to speak to my brother in the hall for a moment."
Jax and Jerry went into the hall. "Jerry, I do not know what happened between you and Julia and I don't even care, but I care about my wife. Brenda is nervous enough about this evening without your behavior. I want you to go in and apologize to Julia right now."
"I have nothing to apologize for. She is the one in the wrong here."
"I don't care. Get in there now and apologize."
Jax and Jerry walked back into the living room. Julia was still flushed and Brenda still looked like she was going to be sick.
"I am sorry Julia that you and my brother had such an unpleasant first meeting. Jerry wants to say something to you."
"Julia, I am sorry you thought the cab was yours. Since you are family, I won't ask you to pay for the repairs to my luggage."
Jax wanted to knock Jerry right through the french doors. Julia was about to go into a tirade but noticed the anxious look on Brenda's face and Jax's worried expression as he looked at Brenda. Julia decided a tirade was not the answer.
"Jerry, I am sorry that your feeble little mind led you to believe that the cab was yours. Since you are family, I won't ask you to pay for the replacement of my shoes."
Before another word could be said, Jax quickly walked to the door and announced that dinner was being served in the dining room. He put his arm around Brenda and whispered words of love to her as they walked to the dining room. Dinner was served and everyone got through it without any bloodshed. Jax attempted to keep the dinner conversation light and when that failed, Brenda piled more food onto Jerry's plate to keep him busy. After dinner, dessert and drinks were served in the living room and Jax spent a good portion of the time showing Julia his art collection. Brenda kept Jerry busy by speaking with him about his recent travels.
It was getting late and everyone was tired so Jax summoned Virgil to take Julia back to the hotel. Jerry was spending the night at the house before his morning flight. Julia and Brenda were going to meet for lunch and shopping tomorrow. Julia kissed Jax and Brenda good night before glaring at Jerry.
"What, no kiss for me?"
Jax shook his head. "Jerry, knock it off."
"Good night Mr. Jacks. I hope to never have the pleasure again."
"You do play hard to get, don't you?"
As a look of complete exasperation appeared on Julia's face, Virgil appeared. Julia said good night and Jax walked her to the car. Brenda watched Jerry as he climbed the stairs. He looked back at Brenda and said, "She wants me. Good night, Brenda."
Brenda had to laugh. He was such a card. Jax then walked back into the house.
"Where is that ingrate of a brother of mine?"
"In his cage for the evening."
"I'm sorry, sweetie. I know you wanted this evening to be perfect."
"Jax, it was perfect because you were here. Julia did not run from the house screaming into the night. We even made plans for tomorrow. Jerry was just being Jerry. He can't help himself."
"Time for you to get to bed. Maybe you can get some rest tonight."
"Jax, thanks for playing referee. Actually thanks for everything. I love you."
"I love you, my darling."

J & J Jacks -- Noon
Jax and Scott had worked all day yesterday and most of the night to resolve the labor dispute in the Alaskan refineries. Jerry was to meet with the union representatives today for the formal execution of the new contract. The crisis had passed without a great deal of negative effects on production. Now that the Alaskan dispute was resolved, Jax could clearly approach the Miranda situation. He was torn on the whole predicament. Half of him was completely caught up in his concern for Miranda. He did not think he would ever be able to erase the guilt he felt for his role in the explosion and in the suffering Miranda had faced because of her injuries. He knew that Brenda and his family had often warned him that his guilt was clouding his ability to clearly examine any issue dealing with Miranda. Over the past few weeks Jax had begun to think they could be right. A part of him could not help but think something was just not right.
Miranda was so different around him than she was around anyone else. Jax decided he had to keep his eyes open and try not to let the past influence his thinking about Miranda. Jax walked into Miranda's office area. Scott had a meeting at the Charles Street Foundation about the drug rehabilitation center so Miranda was alone in the office suite.
"Miranda, how was your doctor's appointment this morning?"
"I had a double session so I was in the office all morning. I was going to come to see you about it. I am in the stage of treatment where I need to force myself to reconcile my feelings about the trauma. Dr. Hartley thinks it would be helpful if I spent time with people who were close to me at the time of the accident. Since you have continually offered to help, I thought maybe you could assist me in this."
"Miranda, whatever I can do."
"That is so nice of you, Jax. You are such a busy man and I do not want you to feel obligated. I mean you did not force me to go to the mine that day, I just wanted to surprise you."
"Miranda, I want to help you."
"Great. Are you free for lunch today? We could go to some quiet corner of a restaurant and discuss things."
"I'm free now. Let me just tell Addie and we will go."
Jax left Miranda's office and she rubbed her palms together as she smiled thinking her plan was moving along smoothly.
The Jacks' Residence -- 3:00pm
The weather was mild for mid-July so Brenda and Julia were sitting by the pool. They had just returned from the Quartermaine estate after having lunch with Lila. Julia was heading back to London tomorrow and was spending the rest of the afternoon with Brenda before they met Jax and Ned for dinner later this evening.
"Brenda, I need to say something. I have to tell you how sorry I am for the way I treated you in the past. I realize now that I never gave you a chance. I never gave us a chance."
"Julia, I don't want to talk about the past, the present and future are all I care about now. You are here now and that is all that matters."
"I hope this can be the start of something wonderful."
"As do I. I do want to ask you something and I hope I don't regret it but I do wonder what made you write the letter and offer to come for a visit."
"No, it's a fair question. Let's just say one day I looked up and realized I was all alone."
"I know the feeling. Even though I am surrounded now by more love and support than I ever imagined was possible, I remember what it felt like to be alone."
"Brenda, I was only in this house for ten minutes before I knew that you had everything that anyone could possibly ever want. It is so obvious how much you and Jax love each other and how happy you are. I am so happy that you have found peace."
"Julia, every day is like a dream and I still fear that I will awake one day and it will all be over. I want you to experience this kind of happiness."
"I don't know if that is in the cards for me."
"Of course, it is. I take this to mean that there is no one special in your life."
"No, not anymore. I saw to it that happily ever after would be impossible."
"I'm sorry. What are your plans? You have spoken about leaving London. Is that a possibility?"
"Yes, I feel it is time to move on. Barrett Industries can almost run itself so I can be anywhere. I am looking for more consulting work to keep me busy."
"Does this have something to do with your past relationship?"
"Partly. I feel it would be better to make a clean break."
"Believe me, that is the best course of action. Unfortunately it took me quite a while to figure that out in my own situation."
"Am I safe to assume you are talking about Mr. Corinthos?"
"Yes. It almost cost me Jax."
"But, it didn't. Now you have your whole future ahead of you."
"So do you, Julia. Will you come back to the States?"
"I am considering it. I had some meetings in Manhattan and Boston and I will be in Chicago at the end of the month."
"You will be back in the States at the end of the month? J & J Jacks will be officially dedicating their corporate offices on July 31st and we are throwing a gala here that evening. We would love for you to come. Everyone will be here, so you could see your old friends from Port Charles."
"I will see if it fits into my schedule. I would love to see everyone again. I guess if it is a J & J Jacks affair then the scoundrel will be here."
"Yes, we keep him in a cage when he is here."
"What an exasperating, infuriating and maddening man."
"His bark is worse than his bite. He does it all for show. He is really quite charming once you get to know him."
"Charming my foot. He is like a termite infestation. The deeper you go, the more damage you find. No wonder he does not have a woman in his life. Who could ever put up with him without killing him?"
"He would make life interesting, I must admit."
"Not interesting, Brenda. It would be a life of hell."
Brenda could not help but notice how Julia looked when she spoke about Jerry. Brenda had noticed the same look when Jerry and Julia were arguing about the cab incident. This could be interesting.
The Outback -- 8:00pm
Jax, Brenda, Ned and Julia were enjoying dinner. Ned and Julia had caught up on the events in their lives. As Ned showed Julia a picture of Brooke, Brenda could not help but notice the sadness in his eyes. It was the same sadness that Lois' eyes reflected. There had to be a way for the Ashtons to reconcile their differences. As the evening wore on, Ned and Jax spoke to Julia about her business plans.
"Julia, J & J Jacks can always use some outside consulting services. If you are interested, I am sure we can make some arrangements."
"The same goes for ELQ. Grandfather would love to have the use of your services again."
"Thank you gentlemen. I will keep both of your generous offers in mind."
"How was your lunch with Lila?"
"Wonderful, Jax. She is such a lovely woman. I have really missed her."
"She most certainly is. She and Brenda are very close ."
"Yes, she is going to be the honorary grandmother to the baby."
At that moment, Miranda walked into the restaurant. Julia immediately noticed Brenda's frown as Miranda walked over to talk to Felicia at the bar.
"Jax, it seems that your ex-wife is quite friendly with Felicia Jones."
Brenda looked surprised. "How did you know that was Miranda?"
"I had breakfast with A.J. this morning at the Grille and he pointed her out to me. She was pouring over some textbook in the corner of the restaurant for the whole hour and a half we were in the restaurant."
Jax took a deep breath. "You saw her this morning?"
"Yes."
"Honey, is there a problem? You seem upset."
"No, I am fine. Now tell me what you ladies did this afternoon after your lunch with Lila."
"We spent the afternoon on the terrace catching up. It turns out that Julia is going to be in the States at the end of the month so I asked her to try to arrange to be in town for the J & J Jacks gala."
"That would wonderful if you could be here. My parents plan to come in from Alaska."
"It would be a pleasure to meet them. I will see what I can do about attending."
"Yes, it will be quite an event. Grandfather is already complaining about having to attend."
Jax laughed. "Then I am having fun already."
The foursome finished dinner and Brenda and Julia said their good-byes before Virgil took Julia back to the hotel. Jax was relieved that things had gone so well. He knew how happy Brenda was and he could see that Julia seemed happy as well. Everyone knew that this was just the beginning of a new relationship between the Barrett sisters.

Kevin's Lighthouse -- 11:00am
Ever since Julia had mentioned seeing Miranda at the Grille on the morning of one of her doctor's appointments, Jax had been even more suspicious. Miranda was continually asking him to join her for lunch or after work. When Jax did agree to meet with her, Miranda never seemed to want to talk about the accident. She constantly brought up their days at the beach and their honeymoon. When Jax would bring up the explosion, Miranda would speak of it for a moment and then get upset and tell Jax they would have to change the subject.
Jax had gone to Police Headquarters the day before to talk to Mac. Mac had told Jax how much better Miranda seemed especially now that she seemed so interested in the accident. She had asked Mac about all the details of the explosion and about the chronology of the events leading up to and through the rescue efforts. Jax was perplexed since Miranda seemed so reluctant to discuss any specifics with him. Jax had decided to try to find out more about post-traumatic stress disorder on his own. He had arranged to meet with Kevin to discuss it.
"Jax, as I went over with you on the phone, persons who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder or PTS can exhibit a variety of symptoms. Flashbacks, nightmares, intrusive memories, insomnia, irritability, outbursts of rage, agitation, etc. The victims of PTS suffer these symptoms then go through a period of avoidance of the trauma."
"What is the treatment for PTS?"
"The usual treatment is getting the victim to remember the trauma in order to eventually allow for the victim to master the trauma. There is a great deal of guilt involved as well as anger and grief that has to be resolved before the PTS can be successfully treated."
"As I told you, I am requesting this information to help a friend. This friend is being treated by a Dr. Hartley at Mercy Hospital. Do you know anything about him?"
"Bob Hartley is a fine doctor. He is very young however and his specialty is not PTS. Actually Gail Baldwin at General Hospital is considered an expert in the field. She would be who I would recommend to treat your friend."
"Kevin, is it common for someone to experience PTS symptoms several years after the trauma?"
"Yes and no. It would be uncommon if the victim had never experienced any symptoms before but many victims experience symptoms on and off before they seek treatment. If this happens, then a re-emergence of the symptoms could occur years later."
"I thought that people who suffered from PTS often find it difficult to function in every day matters."
"It depends on the severity of the case, Jax. I have a textbook that I use in my classes that is a good reference source. Also one of my previous teaching assistants, Gina Cates, did a case study on some PTS patients. Would you like to borrow the book and research?"
"That would be great. Kevin, thank you for the information. I also appreciate you keeping this confidential."
"Not a problem, Jax. Call me if you have any further questions."
The Jacks Residence -- 2:00pm
Brenda and Robin were in the den going over the guest list and seating arrangements for the gala next week. The heat and humidity of the afternoon was bothering Brenda. Robin noticed how uncomfortable she was.
"Brenda, are you sure you are okay? Maybe you should lie down."
"Unfortunately lying down is no help. My back is just rebelling against this extra twenty pounds."
"At least you are in the home stretch."
"Yes, only another two months. Remind if I ever do this again to not have the last trimester of my pregnancy occur during the three summer months."
"I will be sure to remind you."
Jax and I start Lamaze classes this evening."
"Oh, that should be fun."
"Yes, I get to learn how to breathe. I want to know who came up with the idea that breathing exercises would help with labor pain. No one would choose breathing exercises over anesthesia in surgery but somehow these exercises are supposed to help with labor pain. It had to be some man who came up with this."
Robin laughed. "I am sure you will do fine. I just hope this gala is not too much for you."
"Don't say that in front of Jax. He did want me to handle it in the first place but I insisted. It's the first major event for J & J Jacks in Port Charles and I want it to be special. I did not want some uninterested professional making the arrangements."
"I understand your point but I also know Jax is worried about you."
"I will be fine once this is all over. Do you think you can convince Jason to come?"
"I think so. He won't like it but he will do it for me."
"He really loves you."
"I know. I see Lois is coming. What about Julia?"
"She will not know until next week."
"I was surprised to see Sonny on the guest list. I know that he and Jax have had their share of problems."
"The entire ELQ board was invited. Actually Jax and Sonny seem to be co-existing very well. Jax does not seem to even mind going to Luke's any more."
"What about you, Brenda?"
"I have not seen Sonny that much recently but when I have things have been good. I still think we can be friends."
"I think he wants that also. He seems okay."
"I hope so. I want him to be happy."
The Jacks' Residence -- 9:00pm
Jax and Brenda walked into the house from Lamaze class. Jax was carrying a pillow as Brenda was laughing at him.
"I really do not see what is so funny."
"You are. The corporate raider on a hospital meeting room floor panting."
"Carol was just trying to have the fathers experience some of the things that you mothers will be going through."
"Carol Hathaway wanted to make you men look like fools. She succeeded. It was her way of easing some of the nerves of the mothers-to-be. I like her already."
"Very funny. We'll see how funny it is for you as the classes continue."
"Yes, and we'll see how many of you men are still standing after seeing the childbirth movies."
As they sat in the den, Jax patted Brenda's stomach and said, "Don't worry, you will learn when to ignore your mother."
"Little one, you will learn that trying to ignore your mother is a fruitless effort. Daddy is hard-headed and stubborn so he tries but to no avail. You will be smarter than that."
"Excuse me. I thought you wanted to watch what you say in front of the little one. "
"Sometimes the truth hurts."
"Talk about hard-headed and stubborn, you are the most exasperating woman I have ever met."
"Flattery will get you nowhere, Jax."
Jax looked at Brenda as she laughed. She was beaming and he reached out to stroke her cheek. Just looking at her made his heart sing.
"Well if flattery won't work, will this?" Jax began kissing her throat and neck.
"I think I need some more evidence to make my determination."
Jax then began nibbling her ear and tasting her neck with his tongue. Jax then began whispering poetry in her ear and Brenda moaned in surrender. She hungrily covered his lips with hers as Jax pulled her into his lap. He lifted her into his arms and climbed the stairs to the bedroom where they gave their hearts, bodies and souls as a testament to their love.

J & J Jacks -- Noon
Jax had spent the past few days reviewing the textbook that Kevin has given him on PTS. It provided him some insight but no real answers. Sometimes when he spoke to Miranda it was almost like he was being read the textbook. Jax noticed how nervous she was around him when he was asking questions. More and more he thought something was going on. Miranda seemed especially nervous this week. Jax wondered if it was because his entire family would be in town for the gala. He was remembering some of the statements his mother and Jerry had made about Miranda before things had been resolved with Brenda. Jax now thought that the statements were warnings. If they were then his family knew more than they were letting on. The thought of that sent waves of pain to his heart. It made him doubt his family just when he had just begun to trust them again. Brenda had always thought that Miranda was a manipulator and a user but Jax had always credited those thoughts to Brenda's jealousy of his past with Miranda. Now he did not know what was up and what was down. He could not turn to his family until he knew more and he did not want to create any additional stress for Brenda. He would have to wait until after the gala to speak with her about his suspicions. He was on his own for now but he was determined to find the answers he sought.
"Miranda, we need to talk."
"How about after work over a drink? We could share mai tais like we did on the beach."
"No, we are not sharing mai tais. We need to speak now."
"Okay. What's up?"
"Since Dr. Hartley suggested you speak with me about the accident, I think it's time for the two of us to have a session together."
"Why?"
"Well, since you have difficulty talking about the accident when you are around me, we can get the doctor's help in assisting us."
"I don't know if that is a good idea."
"Why, Miranda?"
"I don't want Dr. Hartley to know about our private feelings for each other."
"Miranda we are talking about the accident, nothing more."
"I could not do that, Jax. I'm sorry. Maybe this isn't such a good idea. I thought I was helping you get through your guilt but maybe this is just making things worse."
For the first time Jax realized how calculated her statements could be. "Miranda, I am going to help you. Either you speak to Dr., Hartley or I will. Otherwise I will speak to Jerry and see if speaking to him about the accident will help you."
"No, Jax. You promised me that you would not involve your family."
"I told you for the time being I would not involve my family. Time is up. I suggest you speak to Dr. Hartley. Let me know tomorrow. I will be out of the office the rest of day. Good-bye."
Jax walked and Miranda was speechless. She did not understand the change in his attitude. She wondered if he had spoken to Brenda or his family about her. She decided he had not because they would have been in her face about it already. She had to figure out her next step.
Luke's Club -- 3:00pm
Sonny was sitting at a corner table reconciling the books when Jax entered the room. Sonny looked up and saw Jax as he approached the table.
"Jax, is there a problem?"
"That is what I am here to find out. I have to talk to you Sonny."
Sonny noticed a look in Jax's eyes that reminded him of himself. It was almost a look of turmoil.
"What is it? Is Brenda all right?"
"She is fine. I just need to ensure that she stays that way."
"You are not making any sense, Jax."
"I know. Sonny, I can't tell you how much I hate being here but I need your help."
"Spill it."
"I need some information about Miranda."
"Why?"
"I have a feeling that something is going on and I need to put a stop to it."
"You have lost me."
"I don't even know myself what it happening but I need to find out any information I can. I can't get into all of it but I have a gut feeling that all is not what it seems."
"I don't know what I can tell you."
"Tell me what you found out about Miranda when you went to Australia and the Philippines. Also, has she said anything to you since she has been here that would lead you to believe she is up to something?"
"You know what information I uncovered in Australia -- the explosion, J & J Jacks business practices and your marriage. That was it."
"What about since then?"
"Jax, I don't really know what you are asking."
"Sonny, if you want me to beg I will. I will do anything to protect Brenda and I thought you would do the same. I guess I was wrong." Jax got up from the table and started to leave.
"Wait. You know how much I care about Brenda."
"Yes, I do. I am trying to protect her. She does not need any more stress now than she already has."
"What do you want to know?"
"Has Miranda said anything to you about any plan or scheme she may have been contemplating?"
"All I can tell you Jax is that Miranda is still under the impression that the two of you belong together. I have tried to tell her that is not going to happen but she does not listen. I definitely got the impression that she has her own agenda. I have no specifics, however."
"I appreciate it, Sonny."
"I only did it for Brenda."
"I understand that. Thank you."
"Jax, there is one thing. She comes in here frequently and I have noticed how close she is to Gina Cates. I do not know what that could mean but maybe you can solve that."
"Thanks."
The Jacks' Residence -- 10:00pm
Between planning the gala and making her last public appearance for Jacks' Cosmetics today, Brenda was exhausted. Jax had put on his best face when he had returned home for the evening but Brenda had seen through him immediately.
"Honey, I know something is wrong. Let me help you."
"You can help me by getting in bed. You are exhausted. Dr. Meadows told you yesterday to start taking it easier, remember?"
"It would not matter because you would never let me forget it."
"Exactly. I am glad we know where we stand."
"I am only letting you get away with that remark because I am worried about you. Stop trying to change the subject and tell me what the problem is."
Brenda got into bed and Jax sat down next to her as he tucked her under the sheets. "The only problem I have right now is an overly curious wife."
"Jax, stop."
"Brenda, I promise I will talk to you about it when I have all the information. Can you live with that?"
"Of course. I'm sorry."
"Don't ever be sorry for caring about me or for holding on for all that you are worth."
"Okay. Are you all right?"
"Yes, I am now. I love you so much, you and that precious child inside you. Never forget that."
"We love you very much."
"Good, now go to sleep. I'll stay with you until you fall asleep."
Jax stroked Brenda's hair and cheek until she drifted off to sleep. He had spent the day preoccupied with the Miranda situation but one look at Brenda had chased all those thoughts away. He had everything he ever wanted sitting in front of him. No one was going to interfere with their future. He was going to find out the truth once and for all.

The Jacks' Residence -- 9:00am
Brenda smiled as she put down the telephone receiver. Everything was coming together. Jax walked into the kitchen and kissed her good morning.
"I see we are off to an early start this morning."
"There is so much to do before tomorrow. Lois and Robin will be here this afternoon to help me."
"I'm glad. Please promise me you won't overdo it."
"I promise. Oh, I almost forgot. Julia just called and she is coming to town for the gala. Jax, she actually accepted my invitation to stay here. She is arriving tomorrow afternoon."
Jax's face showed a look of concern. "Brenda, aren't you forgetting something?"
"What?"
"Jerry is going to be staying here tomorrow for a few days."
"I know."
"Have you lost your mind? There will be World War III here."
"Trust me, I know what I'm doing. Just don't tell Jerry that Julia will be staying here. I am not telling Julia about his plans either."
"Would you mind providing me with the method to your madness?"
"I just happen to think that Jerry and Julia's animosity toward each other is more of an act than anything else."
"May I ask how you arrived at this conclusion?"
"A women's intuition."
"God help us all."
Brenda playfully swatted at Jax's arm. "Honey, trust me."
"Fine just as long as you know we all have to deal with the consequences of this if disaster strikes. And I mean all of us. We are going to have a full house with Mum and Dad and with Lois and Brooke."
"I told Lois we were short on space so Ned is moving back to the main house while she stays at the gate house."
"This is an eight bedroom house. We are not short on space."
"I know but I thought it would give her a chance to spend some more time with Ned."
"Brenda, when did you become such a matchmaker?"
"I am just trying to give them a little nudge. They belong together, Jax."
"I agree but I think they need to come to that decision themselves."
"I just want everyone to be as happy as we are."
Jax took Brenda in his arms. "That would be impossible, Mrs. Jacks."
"Well, almost as happy as we are then."
"I have to get to the office. I'll be home before the Jacks clan arrives. I love you."
"I love you. See you tonight."
J & J Jacks -- 1:00pm
Jax had been tied up on conference calls all morning and had not yet had a chance to speak with Miranda. He had revised a proposal that Scott had left for him before he left to meet with Justus at the Foundation. Jax walked into Scott's office suite to leave the proposal on Miranda's desk. He realized he had forgotten to make one change and he reached into Miranda's desk drawer to find a red pen. He found none so he opened the door to the supply cabinet behind Miranda's desk. On the top shelf of the cabinet he found a copy of the text book and Gina Cate's research. It was the exact same materials that Kevin had loaned him. A piece of paper was sticking out of the research folder so Jax opened it. It was a copy of Gina's work and class schedule. He checked the schedule and saw that Gina was in the research lab at General Hospital until 2:00pm today.
"Addie, do you know where Miranda is?"
"She just left for lunch a few minutes ago."
"Addie, an emergency has come up. I am not sure if I will be back but I will call you."
"It's not Mrs. Jacks, is it?"
"No, she is fine. I will be reachable on my cellular or in the car."
General Hospital Research Lab -- 1:30pm
Gina was reviewing her research data as Miranda entered the lab. "Hello, Ms. Jameson."
"Hi Gina. I need your help."
"Sure. What can I do for you?"
"I have some questions on the case studies that you used in your research project."
"What kind of questions?"
"Well as I told you I am trying to understand as much as I can about PTS. My poor sister is suffering so badly and I am trying to convince her to get help."
"Like I told you before, your sister needs professional help."
"I agree but in the meantime I am trying to understand what she is experiencing. I want to have first hand knowledge of the symptoms and problems affiliated with PTS."
At this time, Jax opened the door to the research lab and heard the sound of Miranda's voice. He took a deep breath as he faced the sight of Miranda and Gina together. He hated what he had to do but there was no choice. Fortunately there were book shelves between the door and the table where Gina and Miranda were seated. Jax was able to enter the room without their knowledge and he stood behind the bookcase closest to them so that he could clearly hear their conversation.
"Do you have a specific question about a case study?"
"Well, I am most interested in the study of the woman who was trapped in the burning building. As I told you this was the problem my sister faced. I want to know exactly how she felt so that I can try to experience what my sister is going through during her PTS episodes."
"Okay. I can see if I can find my notes from the interview."
"That would be so helpful. Also I know that the woman in the study went through some treatment sessions with members of her family who were at the scene of the fire. Do you have any notes on that because my sister's husband was at the scene and wants to help her in her therapy sessions."
"I will check the files and get back to you."
"Great. If you get to that as soon as possible I would appreciate it. Also remember to call me at home and I know you have already promised to keep this between us."
"Of course Ms. Jameson. I will call you tomorrow."
"Thanks Gina."
Miranda stood up and Jax moved behind the bookcase furthest from the door. Miranda exited the research lab and Gina resumed her date compilation. Jax waited a few moments before leaving the lab. Once he reached the hospital corridor he left via the stairwell rather than the elevator. Once he reached the parking lot, it all hit him. He felt as if someone had cut open his chest. He was stunned at what he had heard. It made no sense to him. He could not understand what Miranda hoped to accomplish. He could not believe that she was faking PTS episodes to get his attention. What could she possibly gain from this? Now he had to doubt everything she had ever said or done.
His mind flashed to the night Brenda was abducted when he had thought she was in Bensonhurst. The message that Keesha had taken from Brenda was never found and he had spent the evening with Miranda supposedly to give her financial advice. He remembered that he had to keep asking her to provide him with the investment information she wanted him to review. Had she destroyed Brenda's message? His mind was racing now. The timing could not have been worse. His parents and Jerry were arriving tonight and Julia would be in tomorrow for the gala. He had to get through the next two days before he could make any sense of it all. He had to get Brenda through the gala before he spoke to her about this.
Jax opened the car door and finally climbed into the vehicle. He called Addie and told her he would not be back. He could not face Miranda right now. Jax then placed a call to his top private investigator, Thomas Magnum. He asked Magnum to compile as much information as he could on Miranda. Jax wanted information on Dr. Robert Hartley as well as a log of all of Miranda's activity beginning this afternoon. It was all to be top priority. Jax wanted answers and he was going to find them whatever it took. Jax drove around town for the next few hours trying to clear his head and compose himself for this evening.
The Jacks' Residence -- 7:00pm
Lois and Brenda were on the terrace checking the progress of the day. The tent had been set up as well as the tables and chairs. The stage for the string quartet and the four wet bars had been delivered. Battery powered lanterns had also been positioned around the grounds to provide additional lighting. The weather was expected to hold so no problems were anticipated. Security was on the property already to oversee the events.
Brooke was with Ned so Lois was going to join Jax, Brenda and the rest of the Jacks clan for dinner. Brenda had warned Lois not to say anything to Jerry about Julia. Lois told Brenda she was just looking for trouble but Brenda chose to ignore her. Jax walked out onto the terrace with drinks as they awaited his family's arrival. Virgil was on the way to the house after picking them up from the airport.
"Ladies, here's to a marvelous job."
"We are good, aren't we?"
"That is affirmative, Lois. Maybe the next L & B collaboration can be gala management."
"We will consider it."
"Lois, I must thank you for seeing to it that my wife did not wear herself into the ground."
"How could I? You called every hour to check on me."
"I see the crankiness hormones have returned."
Jax was saved as Corrine announced that his family had arrived. Jax, Brenda and Lois walked into the house as John, Jane and Jerry entered the foyer. Jane hugged Jax as John hugged Brenda. Jax then introduced Lois to Jerry.
"So, this is the woman you tried to get to run off with you? I think I will have to hang around Port Charles more if all the women look like Brenda and Lois."
"Jerry, knock it off."
"Don't worry Jane, I already warned Lois about Jerry. She has her arsenal ready."
"Good for you Brenda."
"I think I'm insulted. My own sister-in-law, how could she?"
"Very easily" was then replied in unison by all.
The plans for the next day were discussed at dinner. The official dedication was in the afternoon but the Governor and Mayor were visiting the headquarters and facility with the press in the morning. Brenda, Jane and Lois were going to work with the caterers and staff in the morning to oversee the final arrangements for the gala while Jax, John and Jerry were with the Governor and Mayor. Everyone would attend the dedication in the afternoon and then return to the house before the gala began in the evening.
After dinner, Lois left for the gate house while John and Jane went upstairs to unpack and get ready for tomorrow. Jerry noticed that Jax seemed withdrawn but Jax shrugged it off. Brenda had seen it as well but she knew that Jax had promised to tell her what was bothering him after the gala was over. Once everyone else had retired for the evening, Jax joined Brenda in bed. She sat up and told him lie on his side facing away from her. She propped herself up on her side facing him and started to massage his neck and shoulders.
"Honey, you are all knots." She continued to gently rub his shoulders and neck until some of the knots had dissipated. Jax rolled over onto his back as she remained on her side propped up on her elbow. Jax stroked her cheek with his hand and Brenda covered his hand with her and brought it to her lips.
Brenda then took his hand and moved it with hers to her stomach. "We love you more than anything in this world."
"That means more to me today than anything ever has in my life. I love you both with all my heart. Come here, I need to hold you."
"Always."
Jax placed his arms around Brenda as if he were her life preserver in a raging sea. Brenda knew he needed her. She pulled his arms even tighter around her body and willed the love in heart to reach him. At that moment, Jax felt every ounce of love she had for him. It was like a miracle cure as the pain in his chest from the earlier events of the day disappeared. He needed her and she was there and he knew in his heart of heart that she always would be.

J & J Jacks -- 1:00pm
Brenda, Jane and Lois had spent the morning with the caterers and the florist while the Jacks men led the Governor and the Mayor on a tour of the new facilities. There were numerous print and television journalists in attendance. A stage and podium had been positioned in front of the corporate offices for the dedication ceremony. Brenda, Jane and Lois had just arrived and the ceremony was set to begin. The City Council was seated in the audience. Also in attendance were the entire Boards of Directors for J & J Jacks and the Charles Street Foundation as well as representatives from various regional offices of J & J Jacks. The entire Quartermaine family was present to show its support for the Foundation.
On stage sat John, Jane, Jerry, Jax, Brenda and the other Board members of J & J Jacks. The Governor addressed the crowd by praising J & J Jacks for its successful relocation efforts and for the enhancement to the Charles Street area. The Governor then congratulated both J & J Jacks and the citizens of Port Charles for enabling the economic growth and development to occur in the city. The Governor read a proclamation and then made the official dedication of the renovated facilities and handed Jane the scissors. To the sounds of cheers from the crowd, Jane cut the red ribbon affixed to the front doors of the corporate offices.
Jax spoke on behalf of the family. He thanked the City Council, the Charles Street Foundation, the citizens of Port Charles, Scott Baldwin and his family for all their efforts in making the relocation such a success. Jax then made a presentation on behalf of the company to the Charles Street Foundation. In appreciation of the assistance of the Charles Street community, J & J Jacks would match any contribution or grant the Foundation received within the next year. After the ceremony had been completed, the family expressed its appreciation to individuals in the crowd.
"Jax, I can't tell you how much the Foundation appreciates your generosity."
"Justus, it was something we all wanted to do. Charles Street has been a great asset to us."
Justus shook Jax's hand. "We won't forget this, Jax."
Meanwhile Edward was grumbling about the press coverage and J & J Jacks' opportunistic tendencies."
A.J. rolled his eyes. "Grandfather, you are just jealous."
"Listen here young man, ELQ is the powerhouse in this town and we are responsible for keeping it that way. I will not have some outsider come in here and take what I worked my whole life to build."
Lila shook her head. "Edward, put a sock in it. Port Charles is Jax and Brenda's home. Jax is not an outsider and he has every right to be here."
The crowd slowly began to dissipate. Jax had just finished speaking with Scott as Brenda approached him. She put her arms around him and pulled him toward her. "Jax, do you know how proud I am of you?"
"No. Why don't you tell me."
"I have been singing your praises all day to our little angel. I gave Lois my camera to take pictures so we can show this baby the photos from the day Port Charles named its daddy a hero."
"As long as I am a hero in your eyes, nothing else matters."
"Always and forever."
The Jacks' Residence -- 4:00pm
John, Jane, Jax and Brenda had returned to the house to make the final preparations for the gala. Jerry and Scott had returned to the office to finalize some manufacturing contracts. Julia had arrived at the house from her meetings in Chicago. Brenda had introduced her to John and Jane and they seemed to enjoy each other's company. After their visit, John, Jane and Julia headed upstairs to begin to get ready for the party. Julia was going to take a long hot bath before getting dressed. Jax had insisted that Brenda lie down before getting dressed for the evening. He and Corrine promised Brenda that they would double and triple check all the arrangements.
A little while later, Jerry arrived at the house. He walked onto the terrace and saw Jax speaking with the security guards. At the same time, the bartenders were setting up the wet bars and the tables were being set by the catering staff. Jerry decided to go upstairs and take a shower before the guests began to arrive. Julia was relaxing in the bathtub. Her hair was clipped on top of her head and she was resting her eyes as she reclined in the warm water. Jerry put on his bathrobe and walked down the hall to the bathroom. He entered the main area of the bathroom and took off his robe. He walked to the door for the bathtub area and then opened it to enter.
"What the hell?"
Julia looked up and without thinking sat up in the bathtub. She then screamed and sunk back into the tub. Jerry grabbed the towel that was hanging on the rack by the shower and wrapped it around his waist.
"You letch. Have you ever heard about knocking?"
"Have you ever heard of locking doors?"
Brenda had awakened immediately at the sound of the scream and jumped out of bed. Jax had been in the foyer and raced upstairs when he heard the scream. John and Jane had also run out into the hall to check on things. Now it was yelling rather than screaming that was heard by all.
"You beast. Get the hell out of here."
"Why are you acting like this is my fault? You were the one staring."
Julia started splashing water at Jerry. "You pig. Get out."
Jax and Brenda reached the bathroom as Julia was again splashing water at Jerry. "What is going on in here?"
Both Julia and Jerry started yelling at once and rather than decipher the rantings of two lunatics, Jax grabbed Jerry's arm and pulled him out of the room. Brenda handed Julia a towel and shook her head.
"Brenda, that beast barges in here with no clothes on and blames it on me. He has got to be the most obnoxious human being on the face of the earth. How can Jax stand to be in the same room with him?"
Meanwhile Jerry was ranting to Jax. "Where the hell did she come from? She has got to be the most insufferable woman on this planet. How in the world did Brenda survive living with her?"
Julia and Brenda walked out into the hall and saw Jax and Jerry. Julia took a deep breath. "Brenda, tell your house guest to stay away from me."
Jerry glared at Julia. "Gladly. I will also be sure to lock my door unlike some people on this house."
Both Julia and Jerry entered their guest rooms and slammed the doors. Jax looked at Brenda who replied, "Don't even say it."
J & J Jacks Gala -- 8:00pm
Music from the string quartet floated throughout the air as the guests were served dinner. The festivities had proceeded without incident. John, Jane, Jax and Brenda had seen to it that Jerry and Julia had been kept apart. Robin had convinced Jason to escort her and he kept himself occupied by talking to Robin, Luke, Laura, Mike and Sonny throughout the evening. Edward was protesting his presence at the affair but Lila had insisted. She seemed to be thoroughly enjoying herself. Brenda kept an eye on Ned and Lois but they seemed to mingle separately the majority of the time.
The terrace had been cleared to allow for dancing and Alan and Monica started the ball rolling after dinner. Miranda and Scott had come together and Jax avoided Miranda the entire evening. It had been easy since Miranda seemed so reluctant to be around his family, especially Jerry. Sonny had noticed the looks that appeared on Jax's face whenever Miranda appeared. Sonny also paid very close attention to Brenda throughout the evening. She seemed so happy. Robin had told him that such was the case but he needed to see it for himself. The radiance she exuded when she was around Jax was unmistakable. It was hard to believe that she and Julia were close now. Sonny remembered how Brenda had felt like such a disappointment when she was in the presence of Julia. Obviously things had changed for the better. Brenda seemed to have everything she ever wanted.
Sonny made a decision at that point. He took a deep breath and walked over to Jax. "Can I talk to you?"
"Sonny, what do you want?"
"If you come to the Club tomorrow, I will give you all the information my source compiled on Miranda. Maybe it will help you."
"Why are you doing this?"
Sonny looked at Brenda who was laughing with Julia and Robin. "Because she is happy. I want her to stay that way."
"So do I."
"I know."
"I'll be there tomorrow. Thank you."
The evening came to a close as the final guests said their good-byes. Lucy and Kevin thanked Jax and Brenda on their way out and Lois gave Brenda a bear hug. "You let me know as soon as you have an inkling that the baby is ready to make an appearance. I want to be here for the blessed event."
"Of course. You have to fulfill your duties as godmother."
After the last guest had departed, Brenda collapsed on the living room couch. Fortunately, Jane had made sure that Jerry remained on the terrace while Julia said her good nights to all. At least they had all avoided another battle this evening. Jane and Jerry said their good nights as Jax and Jerry came in from the terrace. Jerry quickly kissed Brenda good night and headed upstairs. Jax sat down on the couch next to Brenda.
"You pulled everything off, sweetie. Tonight was wonderful."
"Are you sure? I wanted everything to be perfect for you."
"It could not have been anymore perfect."
"I love you."
"I love you too. I think its time to for dreamland for you two. I'll carry you upstairs."
"No, we're okay. You lock up and come join us."
Brenda kissed Jax and walked up the stairs. Jax walked to the terrace doors and locked them. As he looked out the doors at the night sky, he knew that tomorrow he would begin his crusade for the truth. Jax knew that the his search for the truth may cause him pain and sorrow but he needed answers. Taking chances was the only way.
