Neither Jax nor Brenda had needed an alarm clock to wake up this morning. They found themselves wide-awake as the sun was rising. After making love one more time, they showered and dressed for work. They enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at the penthouse; neither one of them wanting their time there to end. Eventually though, Jax’s cell phone had rung, bringing them back to the realities of life. By the time Jax finished his call, Brenda had packed the bag Benton had given them with their clothes from yesterday, and was sitting on the couch, reading the paper.
When Jax was finally able to end the call, he came over to sit next to her on the couch. “Sorry about that. I guess when they couldn’t reach me at home, they figured my cell phone was the next logical choice.”
“That’s okay, honey. The real world had to intrude eventually. Is something wrong?” She knew that even though Jax was an early riser, it was still too early for his office to be calling about something, unless it was urgent.
“No, not really. It’s just that when Allison got in this morning, there was a fax waiting from the Far East about a deal I’ve been putting together. She thought I’d want to know about it right away, since I’ll need to make some changes in the offer as soon as possible.”
Brenda sighed, “I guess that means you need to get to the office, doesn’t it?” The disappointment was obvious in both her voice and her face. “Oh, well, I knew we had to get back to the real world eventually; might as well be now.” She glanced down at Jax’s watch and let out a soft sigh. “Actually, I have to meet with Matthew in a little while to finish up the final details on our current project, so we can get started on the new one.”
Jax was concerned that Brenda was taking on too much. He knew from experience that it would take a substantial period of time to finish decorating a house as large as her new commission. He also knew that now that she was entering the second trimester of her pregnancy, even though she would feel like she had more energy, the baby would be growing more quickly and putting more demands on her body.
Brenda had noticed the sudden change in Jax’s expression. “What’s wrong, Jax? You look worried.”
Jax knew Brenda would not like what he was going to say, but he also knew he had promised her to never keep anything from her. “I was just thinking about your new project. That’s a huge house, Brenda. It’s going to take you and Matthew months to get it ready for them to live in.”
“I know that, Jax. That’s why it’s a good thing we’re just starting out, so they’ll be our only client. That way I can devote all my time to this house. I won’t have to split my time between several projects!” She looked more deeply into his eyes and realized there was more on his mind. “Somehow I don’t think you’re worried about the time I’ll need to be working on the house being time away from you, so why don’t you spill it.”
“You’re right. I wasn’t thinking about me; I was thinking about you. Brenda, you’re already three months pregnant. Pretty soon the baby is going to start to show, and before you know it, he or she will be here. I’m just worried that this new project is…”. Brenda was surprised at how Jax was acting – not that he was concerned about her – but that he was having so much trouble telling her why. “Is what, Jax?” She tried to encourage him to tell her what was bothering him.
“…too large! Think about it, honey. It’s taken you and Matthew nearly two months to finish your current project, and that house is nowhere nearly as large as the new one! I’m just concerned about you, that’s all.” He reached over and ran his hand up and down her arm. “Before you know it, the baby is going to be making their presence known, Brenda. I just want you to be able to enjoy everything about this pregnancy, and to be able to take care of yourself they way Dr. Meadows wants.”
“I appreciate your concern, Jax, and I love you for it, more than I can tell you. Will it put your mind to rest if I tell you that I’ve already thought about this? I talked with Matthew right after we got the contract for this house, and we’ve come up with a solution that should satisfy everyone involved. Except maybe you.” She smiled at Jax when she made that last statement.
“What does that mean? Why wouldn’t I be satisfied?” Jax was confused by her answer.
“Well, what we decided to do is going to require you to increase our operational budget somewhat…” She smiled sheepishly at Jax before continuing. “I realized that it won’t be long before our child will become a major consideration in my everyday life. Since I’m already starting to show and I haven’t even finished my first trimester yet, it’s a pretty good bet that this is going to be a big baby! I realize that I’m not going to be able to keep up the pace I’m working at now, so Matthew and I decided to hire one of his grad students as my assistant. That way when I have to slow down, she’ll be able to do my legwork for me and I’ll be able to handle most of my responsibilities from the office. What do you think?” She looked up at him for an answer.
Jax looked at her and gently rubbed his chin before answering. “Sounds like a perfect solution to me. When you and Matthew work out the details of the salary, let me know. We’ll add her to the benefits package at Jacks International. Okay?”
Brenda smiled brightly at him, “You bet! Thanks, honey. I knew you’d help us out!” Brenda turned Jax’s wrist around to look at his watch again. “Yikes! We better get a move on! Do you have time to drop me at the house for my meeting with Matthew? I can take a cab if you need to get to the office…”
Before she could finish her sentence Jax put a finger to her lips to silence her. “Don’t you remember what I told you once when we first started going out? I always take my date home at the end of the evening. In this case the date is my wife and the evening ran into the next morning.” Jax leaned over and kissed her lightly. He then stood up and extended his hand to her. She took it and got up slowly.
Brenda took one last look around the penthouse as she put on her coat and picked up her briefcase. Jax was concerned when he saw the sad expression on her face. After putting on his suit coat, he reached over to touch her arm, “What’s wrong, Brenda?”
She looked over at him before answering. “Nothing. I’m just sorry last night has to end, that’s all. Don’t get me wrong: I love our home and being there, especially with you, but it was so nice to spend the night here with no worries, or ghosts, or plots! It was just the two of us, together, making love all night long.”
Jax smiled as he walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her. “I know what you mean. Remember: that’s exactly why we kept this place. This is our hiding place from the real world. I promise we’ll be back soon! But right now we really do need to get going.” Jax kissed her quickly on the tip of her nose and released his hold on her. He opened the door before picking up the overnight bag and his briefcase. Brenda went out into the hallway first and pressed the button for the elevator, as Jax again set down his briefcase to lock the door. By the time he came to stand next to Brenda, the elevator had arrived and they stepped in to head back to the real world.
May 24, 1999
Time passed quickly for Jax and Brenda as their lives had finally settled back into pretty much of a routine for the first time since Jax’s accident. Brenda and Matthew were very busy starting the plans for their new project and training Brenda’s new assistant, Katie Billings, at the same time. Brenda had interviewed several of Matthew’s grad students before deciding on Katie. So far she was working out great. She had an intense interest in Victorian architecture and style. Brenda quickly realized that she would soon be invaluable to both Matthew and herself when she saw the dedication Katie put into her work. She was also a very talented artist, so when it came time for the design sketches, she would be a great help to Brenda in preparing them for the clients to review.
Lady Jane had called several times. She and Brenda had long conversations about all that had happened to Jax and Brenda while they had been estranged from her. She was looking forward to her first visit to the house and was very understanding when Brenda told her that she and Jax wanted to wait a little while longer before scheduling it. Lady Jane agreed that the last thing any of them needed was for John or Jerry to show up or start pumping Jane for information before they were ready. They all agreed that it was best to wait a few weeks.
Jax had found himself rather busy, as well. The Far Eastern deal, that had ended their romantic getaway, had continued to be a problem for a long time. In order to resolve the problems, Jax had found it necessary to work late at the office several nights. On those nights he couldn’t be home for dinner, Brenda had Benton pack their dinner up and she brought it to the office. Once they finished dinner, Jax would get back to work on his deal and Brenda would sit quietly on the couch doing preliminary sketches for the new project. They would ride home together when Jax finished his work. Finally the deal was completed and contracts signed. To celebrate, Jax had taken a day off from work, and he and Brenda had gone for a drive in the country. They had decided to take the time to enjoy the things they like to do together as much as possible now because they both realized that once the baby came, there would be a lot of changes in both of their lives.
Lady Jane had talked to Jax a few times as well. The first time she called him, he had asked her what had happened when she got home from their last meeting. Jane told him that neither John nor Jerry seemed to have the slightest interest or question what, if anything, she had done all day. Jane figured that the presence of the Windom’s bags on the couch gave them a pretty good idea.
When she had called this morning, she told Jax that John had mentioned at breakfast that it was strange she hadn’t heard anything from either Jax or Brenda yet. She had the feeling he was trying to get her to initiate contact with them. Jane asked for some suggestions from Jax or Brenda of what she should tell him if he brought it up again. After talking it over with Brenda, Jax had called his mother back with their suggestions. They were waiting to hear back from her.
6:45 P.M.
Brenda was watching out the parlor window, when she saw Jax’s car pull into the driveway. He had called earlier to warn her that he might be late getting home and that she should go ahead and eat dinner without him; she had decided to wait for him to get home anyway. When she saw him get out of the car, she headed to the door to meet him.
Brenda opened the door just as Jax reached for it. She was surprised to see how tired he looked. "Rough day?" she asked as she reached for his briefcase. She set the case on the table and turned back to wrap her arms around his waist.
"You have no idea! I still haven't finished these contracts! I swear this deal is the most complicated negotiation I ever been involved in! Every time I think it's ready to sign, someone comes up with another problem." Jax just shook his head in frustration. "I brought the latest draft of the contracts home to see what they've changed now."
Brenda pulled him closer to her and looked up into his face, "Hello, to you, too!" She smiled a warm, understanding smile.
Jax looked down at her and returned her smile, "Sorry about that! Hello!" He leaned down and kissed her. "You had dinner, didn't you?"
"No, I decided to wait for you." Before Jax had a chance to say anything, Brenda pulled away from him, took his hand, and started leading him toward the kitchen. "Before you get started on anything, come with me." When they got there, Jax was surprised to see the table set for the two of them. Brenda pushed him toward one of the chairs and went over to the oven to get their dinner. Once she put all the dishes on the table, she sat down in the other chair. “I had a feeling when I talked to you earlier that you were having trouble with this deal. That’s why I asked Mrs. Kelly to fix something simple and keep it warm for us. I didn’t see any reason to have Benton set up a fancy table, since you’ll be rushing into the library as soon as you finish eating. I sent Mrs. Kelly home early and gave Benton the evening off. I figured we could fend for ourselves tonight.” The sense of satisfaction that Brenda felt at having surprised Jax was obvious by the smile on her face.
Jax smiled and shook his head slowly. “You never cease to amaze me, Brenda! Thank you for this. It’s just what I needed to take my mind off of that deal.” Jax looked at the food on the table in front of them. “What do you say we eat? I didn’t realize how hungry I was until I saw all of this food!” Jax leaned over and kissed her quickly on the nose, before digging into the food in front of them.
Jax and Brenda spent close to an hour eating their dinner. They talked about their respective workdays, and Jax asked how the baby was doing. He also told Brenda about his last conversation with his mother earlier in the day. They decided that they would not be able to put off bringing Lady Jane into the house any longer, without raising John or Jerry’s suspicions. Brenda decided that the next time she called, she would invite Jane over to the house. It was time for them to retake control of their house, ALL OF IT! They knew that with the help of Thomas and Madeline, they would do it!
Once they finished dinner, Brenda started putting the leftovers away and cleaning up the dishes. Jax came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her. He snuggled his face down into the bend of her neck and kissed her gently several times. “That was the best idea you’ve had in a long time, my love. Thank you.” He kissed her again, this time running his hands down gently across her abdomen and the child she sheltered there. “Hey there, little one. How are you doing? Have you been taking good care of your mommy?”
Brenda smiled and leaned back into Jax. “He’s been taking very good care of me. He makes sure that I take a nap every afternoon, whether I want to or not! I seem to just doze off for a few minutes!”
Jax chuckled softly, “Sounds like someone else was listening the last time we saw Dr. Meadows!” Jax reluctantly pulled back from his embrace of her. “I guess I should get to those contracts. I shouldn’t be too long.” Jax started to head out of the kitchen when Brenda called to him.
“Wait up! I’m going with you!”
Jax stopped immediately! “What do you mean you’re going with me? Do you really think that’s such a good idea? Considering who else might be in the library?” Jax’s concern was obvious on his face, causing Brenda to reach up and lightly caress his cheek.
“Don’t worry! I’ve got a ton of my own work to do! Quite honestly, you’ll probably be finished before I am!” She wrapped her arm around his waist and started leading him toward the foyer. When they got there, Jax picked up his briefcase and Brenda went over to the bench and picked up her design folder. She started toward the library but stopped when she realized that Jax was not following her. She turned back to him. “Is something wrong Jax?”
“No, it’s just that I really don’t think this is a good idea. I know you really do have a lot of work to do, but doing it in my office might not be the best plan – especially not now!” His expression was enough to convince Brenda that his concerns were not exaggerated.
“You may be right. Okay, tell you what I’ll do: I’ll take my work up to my office. When you finish your contracts you can come up and get me. Okay?” She could see Jax visibly relax right in front of her.
“Sounds like a plan to me. Do you want me to help you with that stuff?” he pointed to Brenda’s design case.
“No, I’ll be fine. You go finish your revisions. Just promise me you won’t stay in there all night!” She stood up on her toes to kiss him.
“I promise! I shouldn’t be too long. All I have to do is read them over and make some notes.” He kissed her quickly and started toward the library. “See you in a little bit.”
Brenda shook her head slowly and headed up the stairs. She had a feeling that this was not going to be an early night for either one of them!
It was well past midnight when Jax finally closed the contract file. He rubbed his face with both of his hand and then ran his hands quickly through his hair. When he finally looked at his watch, he cursed quietly and stood up, tossing the file in his briefcase as he got up. He left the case open on his desk and headed toward the door. He turned out the lights on his way out, catching sight of a slight movement near the fireplace as he reached for the light switch. As he headed up the stairs, he couldn’t resist the urge to smile with a sense of satisfaction. He was sure he had created the right impression tonight. Here it was, well past midnight, and he was just heading up to bed. Even Everett had to be pleased with his performance tonight.
As he watched Jax walk up the stairs, Everett came completely out of the shadows. He was impressed by the amount of time Jax had spent working tonight. He was even more impressed that he had not let anything get in the way of completing his work. He was the first to admit that he did not completely understand these modern communication machines, but he was impressed by the command Jax had of his business and what he expected from his employees. Everett went over to Jax’s briefcase and opened the folder on top. He looked over the papers in the folder, along with the original contract and Jax’s revisions and notes. He approved. He slowly closed the file and walked back into the shadows. He was beginning to think more and more that the accident had really had the desired results, even though the victim had been wrong. Jax did seem to be more dedicated to his work lately. Everett decided to hold off judgement for a while, though, and see how things went.
Jax was surprised that the lights were not on when he walked into their sitting room. He figured that when Brenda had gone to bed she would have left at least one light on for him as she usually did. He quietly opened the door to the bedroom and walked over to bed. He intended to kiss her goodnight before heading into the bathroom to change. He was again surprised and this time very concerned when he approached the bed and realized that it was empty. Brenda had not come to bed yet! He remembered her saying that she would be working in her office and that he should come get her when he was finished. But he had figured she would have realized when he didn’t come up that he was going to be working late and she would have gone on to bed alone.
Jax hurriedly left the bedroom and headed down the hall to Brenda’s office. As he approached the door, he could see the light was still on. He pushed the door completely open and was concerned by what he saw. Brenda’s head was resting on top of the project sketches and fabric samples that covered the top of her desk. She was sound asleep. Jax felt a pang of guilt stab his heart. He had not intended for this to happen. As he went behind her desk and lifted her out of her chair, she automatically wrapped her arms around his neck and snuggled her head under his chin without ever waking up. He stood there holding her for a long time. He should have known she would not go to bed without him. He had become so involved in his business problems that he had lost track of the time. He pulled her closer to him and kissed the top of her head. “I’m sorry, sweetheart. I promise, this will NOT happen again!” He kissed her again and headed back to their bedroom.
When they got to the bedroom, he gently laid her on the bed and removed her clothes. She never came close to waking up. Once she was undressed Jax pulled the covers up around her. He quickly undressed and got in beside her. When she felt his body next to hers, she instinctively rolled over and wrapped herself around him. He held her tightly as he, too, fell asleep, a sleep that was interrupted several times during the night by his dreams of neglecting Brenda and the baby. The only way he was able to fall back asleep was when he realized that Brenda was safe and sound asleep in his arms.
Brenda woke very late the next morning. She reached over to Jax’s side of the bed, only to find it empty. It took her a minute to realize where she was and that she was not wearing anything but the bedcovers. She sat up and looked at the clock on the bedside table. It was nearly 10:00. She did not remember coming to bed last night. The last thing she remembered was working in her office very late into the night. She had put her head down on her desk to rest her eyes for a minute and that was it. She snuggled back into her pillow as she realized that Jax must have found her asleep at her desk and brought her to bed. Jax! She jumped out of bed and grabbed her robe. She hoped he was still at home so she could talk to him, but when she looked at the time again, she doubted it. Considering how late he had worked last night, it wasn’t likely he’d still be here.
Brenda ran into the bathroom and was startled by her appearance. The face that looked back at her in the mirror was pale with dark shadows under her eyes. She splashed cool water on her face hoping it would help. She ran a comb through her hair and pulled it up into a loose ponytail. She took another look in the mirror and decided that she looked a little better, but not much. She headed back into the bedroom and put on her slippers. There was no sign of a note from Jax, either in the bedroom or the sitting room, which was not like him. She began to wonder if he was mad at her for working so late.
As she headed down the stairs, she was surprised to hear voices from his library. They were not the usual voices of the cleaning staff. They sounded like… She ran across the foyer and stopped outside the library door, startled by what she saw. Jax was sitting at his desk talking on the phone. His secretary, Allison was sitting at one of the computers doing some revisions on something. When she saw Brenda, she waved to her to come in and then went back to work.
When Jax realized that she was there, he hurried to finish his call. As she came into the room he crooked his finger at her to come over to his desk. As she got to the desk he held out his hand to her and pulled her around to his side and into his lap. He quickly ended the call and hung up the phone. He reached up with both hands and pulled her face down to his, kissing her fully on the lips. “Good morning, luv! Did you sleep well?” he asked with a twinkle in his eye.
“Like a rock, actually! I don’t remember coming to bed last night. Was that your doing?” Jax just smiled at her. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him again. “What’s all this? I thought you’d have gone to the office hours ago!”
Jax looked down at their hands, which were clasped together. “I couldn’t until I talked to you about last night, so I asked Allison to come out to the house this morning, and we’ve been working here until you got up.” He looked around the room and caught a sudden movement in the shadows of the fireplace. “I need some coffee. Want to walk out to the kitchen with me? No sense in calling Benton to bring it when I can go myself. Do you want anything, Allison?” Jax looked over at his secretary, as he and Brenda got up from his chair.
“Coffee sounds great, Mr. Jacks. Are you sure you don’t want me to get it?” She was half out of her chair when Jax held up his hand to stop her.
“Absolutely not! The same rules apply here as at the office. You are my secretary and assistant, not my servant. Whomever wants the coffee gets it themselves and offers to get it for the other; I want it and I’m offering to get yours!” Jax winked at Brenda when he saw the smile on her face.
“In that case, yes, I’d love some coffee.” Allison smiled, as she sat back down and got back to her work.
Brenda and Jax left the library, hand-in-hand. As they headed into the kitchen, Mrs. Kelly looked up at them. “Brenda, you’re up already? We didn’t think you’d be up before noon, considering how late Jax said you were working last night! Ready for some breakfast?” Mrs. Kelly pointed toward the table for Brenda to take a seat, as she busied herself at the stove, fixing Brenda’s breakfast.
Both Brenda and Jax sat at the table before he said anything. “Mrs. Kelly, do you think you could put a coffee service together for me to take into the library? I think Allison could use a break.”
“Of course, Jax. It’ll just take a minute to make some fresh coffee.” Mrs. Kelly started the coffeemaker and went over to the cabinet to get out the coffee service.
Jax reached over and took Brenda’s hand in both of his. “I want to apologize for last night, Brenda. I got so involved in that contract that I completely lost track of the time. I NEVER intended to work so late. I wouldn’t have if I’d known that you hadn’t gone to bed either!” He gently ran his thumb across the top of her hand. “You have to promise me that you won’t do that again. If I have to work late on something, I want you to promise me that you’ll go to bed – with or without me – when you get tired. No more falling asleep at your desk! Understood?” Jax looked into her eyes.
Brenda could see the regret and concern in his eyes. She put her other hand on top of his and smiled, “It’s okay, Jax. You don’t have to apologize for doing your job. I understand.” She leaned forward to kiss him lightly on the mouth. “You have to admit, though, that it had to have made a good impression on Everett! So does your working at home this morning!” She winked at him as Mrs. Kelly put her breakfast on the table.
Jax smiled and leaned closer so that no one would hear what he said, except Brenda, “I think you’re right. I’m positive he was watching me last night. When I left the library, I’m sure I saw something move in the shadows by the fireplace. When I went in there this morning, it was obvious that someone had gone through the papers in my briefcase. That was why I decided to have Allison come out here to work until you got up, so he would think I couldn’t be away from the office.” Jax looked around again. “That was also why I suggested the coffee. I’m sure he was watching this morning, too, because I saw the same movement by the fireplace when you came into the room. I figured he wouldn’t have a problem if I went for coffee, but he would if I just walked out with you, and right now we aren’t ready to challenge him.”
“Agreed! You better get back then. Mrs. Kelly, is the coffee ready for Jax?” Brenda looked up toward the stove.
“Here it is. All set! I thought you might be hungry, so I put some scones on the tray as well.” Mrs. Kelly looked over at Brenda’s now clean plate. “Do you want anything else, dear?” she asked Brenda.
“No, I’m fine, Mrs. Kelly – thanks.” Brenda got up from her chair and pulled Jax up from his. “You better get back to work. You don’t want to ruin all the hard work you’ve put in.” She smiled at Jax and stood on her toes to kiss him on the chin.
Jax caught her face in both of his before she reached his chin and kissed her full on the lips. “You’re right, of course.” He let go of her face and reached for the coffee service. He turned back to her before leaving the room, “You still haven’t promised me.”
Brenda looked at him confused, “Promised you what?”
“You haven’t promised me that there will NOT be any repeats of last night! I don’t want you falling asleep at your desk EVER again! PROMISE!”
Brenda smiled up at him and caressed the side of his face. “Okay, I promise! No more sleeping at my desk! When I get tired, I’ll go to bed – with or without you!”
Jax returned her smile, “Good! I’m going to hold you to that!” He leaned over and kissed her quickly on the cheek, before heading out the door with the coffee.
June 2, 1999
Several times over the past week Jax was forced to bring problems home from the office. He had always taken the time to have dinner with Brenda before getting started, and he had always managed to finish at a reasonable hour so they could go to bed together. He was becoming more and more aware of Everett’s presence in the library. He wasn’t sure if Everett was doing it intentionally, or if he was just getting careless around him.
Jax finished the work he had brought home quickly tonight. When Brenda came in to the library at about 8:30 to check on him, he was just closing his briefcase. He looked up when he heard her come in. “Hi, you!” he said with a smile.
“Hi, yourself,” she answered. “Finished already?” she said as she pointed at the closed briefcase.
“Yep! It was a lot simpler to resolve than I had first figured. I’m now free to spend the rest of the evening with my beautiful wife! What do you say?” He looked at her with THAT twinkle in his eyes that she knew so well.
“Weell, if you’re sure you have the time…” Before she could finish, he grabbed her in his arms and carried her out the door, both of them laughing as they headed up the stairs.
As soon as they were gone Everett came out of the shadows. He was furious! He could not believe that Jax had slipped back into his old ways, after he had been doing so well! He walked over and opened Jax’s briefcase. He read through the papers in the files and found that he had indeed finished his work. Something didn’t feel right though. Things had been going too well for him to suddenly not have work to bring home. Maybe he needed another lesson. After all, they still had not made any attempt to reunite with Jax’s family – something Everett truly believed was necessary for Jax to fully realize his potential. Yes, he still needed to find a way to get the family into this house. Everett began to ponder this problem as he faded back into the shadows, never realizing he had left the files and the briefcase open.
11:30 P.M.
After having made love twice already Jax and Brenda were lying in bed wrapped around each other. Jax was gently running the backs of his fingers slowly up and down Brenda’s back, and she was drawing small circles on his chest with her finger. When they had finally settled in to rest, neither had said anything for a while. Finally Jax broke the silence by telling Brenda about Everett’s carelessness in the library. About how many times over the past week that he had almost seen him but had known he was there. When he finished he waited for Brenda’s response.
She propped herself up on her crossed hands on his chest before she said anything. “If you’re sure he’s been watching you, then maybe it’s time we move to the next step of this plan. I think it’s time we invite Jane to the house. What do you say?” She looked up into Jax’s face, trying to read his expression.
Jax stopped stroking her back as he thought about what she said. “You’re probably right. Besides, I get the impression that Everett is no fool. It’s not going to take him too long to figure out what I’m doing. Maybe bringing mum here will keep him off his guard until Thomas and his grandfather can figure out how to help us. Why don’t you give her a call tomorrow and invite her?” Jax began to stroke her back again, this time moving his hand lower with each stroke.
Brenda settled back down onto his chest, enjoying his caresses. She sighed softly as she answered. “Okay, I’ll call her tomorrow…” she never finished her thought though because Jax reached for her face and kissed her, once again leading her into passionate lovemaking. This was how they spent the rest of the night, loving and being loved, without a thought of ghosts or family or business – just two people totally in love and totally committed to each other.
